All announce mints for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken, upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified'. 4. In all cases where a. reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment, must be given, and the e r. nct conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offenses, and engravings of stolen property vfdl be inserted at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 4l. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and, no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the ch ief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Aniwuncemcnts concerning stolen property must be g uara ideed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, mint, on their apprehension or recovery, at. once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all eases the officer signing the request for the mseition of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than iwon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order% or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Aniwuncemcnts concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted ok payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. R. ANDERSON, Editor. SPECIAL NOTICE. PRISONERS UNDER REMAND. The aid of the Metropolitan Police is frequently sought by other Police Forces to make inquiries respecting the antecedents of prisoners under re- mand, and such inquiries often result in identi- fying accused persons as being old offenders. But, in many cases, the time allowed for such inquiries is so brief that effect cannot be given to the request for information or that it can be com- plied with only in a perfunctory manner, and at great inconvenience. The Editor would therefore suggest, in the interest of the Provincial Police Forces, that four clear days, at least, should be allowed in cases of the kind, to complete the inquiries asked for. A clerk ; native of London. Warrant issued. 3.- B Division. For obtaining a gold watch and a diamond and ruby ring by a worth- less cheque— B. G. Warrant issued. 10.— Thames Division.— For conspiracy and fraud— JOHN SINNETT, alias SULLIVAN or STANLEY, expiree, Office No. 33841, age 42, height 5 ft. 5| in., slightly round shoulders, com- plexion fresh, hair, whiskers, and moustache dark brown, eyes hazel, mole on right side and chest, scar left shin and right wrist, several small moles on back, stoops, peculiar shuffiing gait; dress when last seen, blue serge jacket, light check trousers, light cap, lace boots. Both speak with German accent. Stated they were going to Cardiff. 12.— Aylesbury ( County).— For stealing, 23rd ult., a bicycle ( recovered)— TWO MEN, 1st age about 30, height 5ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion, hair, and moustache dark ; dress, dark suit, dark soft felt hat. 2nd, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, moustache inclined to sandy ; dress, grey or fawn colour suit, light soft felt hat. Was riding a bicycle fitted with carrier, parcel in a black mackintosh cover tied at back of seat. Both spoke with foreign accent. Pledged by the above at Aylesbury, 23rd ult. ( supposed stolen) a pneumatic safety bicycle, The Claremont," bamboo frame, Palmer's tyrei, wide handle bars, celluloid and felt handles, rat- trap pedals, small faddle," National Saddle Works, Sydenham Road, Birmingham," and " No. 258351" thereon, brake attached, makers Lloyd & Sons, Bishop Street, Birmingham. CHESHIRE. 14.— Liscard { County).— For stealing, 11th inst., at New Brighton, a gold keyless lever watch; 1 silver lever hunting do. ; 1 lady's enamel hunt- ing watch, figured on back ; 1 lady's long gold guard, tassel and heart shape locket ( set diamond and 2 sapphires) attached ; 1 gold bracelet, set 3 diamonds and 2 blue stones ; 1 single stone diamond ring; 1 gold double Albert, locket attached; 1 lady's gold half- hoop ring, set 5 diamonds ; 2 silver tablespoons ; and £ 3 7s. 6d.— MARTHA SCHROEDER, age about 19, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion pale, hair black, wears a fringe, eyes ( sore) supposed hazel, consumptive appearance ; dress, white muslin bodice, black skirt, black cape, and sailor hat. — MARY O'BRIEN, age about 20, height about 5 ft., rather stout, complexion fresh, hair ( frizzed in front) black, hair on upper lip; dress, light blouse, black skirt ( suppose crepon) black sailor hat. McDonald, Liscard. 15.— Middlewich ( County).— For burglary — JOSEPH DAY STEELE, alias JOSEPH DAY and JOSEPH DAY COOK, age 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair, moustache, and eyes brown, cut mark over left eye, small mole right side of neck ; dress, grey jacket, cord trousers, cap, lace boots. A farm labourer; native of Wincle, Cheshire. Warrant issued. £ 2 REWARD. 16.— Middlewich ( County).— For deserting his family— SAMUEL BUCKLEY, age 34, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion and moustache dark, hair black, scar over left eye. A chemical labourer ; native of Northwich. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the Northwich Union to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Buckley. Information to Supt. Large, Middlewich. DERBYSHIRE. 17.— Chesterfield ( County).— For stealing a mare ( recovered) and a light brown pony, 6 years, 13i hands, hair on body mixed with grey, 3 grey marks at root of tail, scar, size of a shilling, on near hip, black points, tail docked, grooved shoes in front, rather mule- footed — ROBERT MARFLEET, age 21, height 5 ft. 6J in., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, scar back of right forearm, palm of left hand, and left first finger, mole on arms ; dress, dark suit. A native of Dresden, Staffs. Is an associate of low horse dealers and gipsies. See portrait, Case No. 36. Information to Supt. Faulkner, Chesterfield. DEVONSHIRE. Chudleigh ( County). — For stealing. 30th ult., at Teignmonth, a small gold watch, No. 33570; 1 small silver watch; 2 gold rings ( 1 twisted half way round ; the other set small stone); 1 silver Albert; 1 pair gold- plated sleeve links ; 1 gold- plated anchor, heart, and cross ; and about £ 4— DAVID BRODSKY, a Frenchman, age about 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, com- plexion and hair dark, clean shaved, wide mouth ; dress, grey suit, bowler hat, or grey jacket and trousers, and velvet vest with blue spots. DORSETSHIRE. 19.— Dorchester ( County).— For stealing, 3rd inst., a shirt; 1 pair black socks; 1 stylo- graphic pen ; 1 penknife ; and a purse, containing a Kruger sixpence and a fourpenny piece dated 1840— GEORGE WILLIAM HOOPER, age 19, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes grey ; dress, dark jacket and trousers, blue vest, blue serge cap, military boots. A brass finisher ; native of Walton, Ipswich. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Burden, Dorchester. ESSEX. 20— Braintree ( County).— For stealing, 4th ult., a " Humber" Coventry bicycle, ' 98 pattern, 24 in. frame, brake to front wheel, back mudguard, recently fitted with rat- trap pedals, teeth blunt, long plated pump, bag, bell, and lamp attached— WILLIAM HARWOOD WATSON, age about 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache brown, eyes deep blue, long sharp nose, several front teeth deficient; dress, brown holland jacket, black trousers, plaid cap, black tie with silver whip and trumpet pin. A painter; native of Sutton, Surrey. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Terry, Braintree. 21.— Brentwood ( County).— For larceny, 10th inst, at Southweald— A MAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair light brown, slight moustache light ; wearing a light dust coat, black soft felt hat. Had with him a box about 16 inches square covered with black cloth, containing jewellery. Information to Supt. Allen. Brentwood 22.— Romford ( County).— For obtaining £ 6, 23rd May last, by a worthless cheque on the London and South Western Bank, Limited, East Ham Branch — CHARLES BROWN, age about 45, height about 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, hair ( turning grey) brown, mous- tache light, eyes full, slight cast in one, one eyelid droops, has a peculiar walk ; wearing a Chester- field overcoat, black frock coat, black bowler hat. A bookmaker. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Creasy, Romford. GLAMORGANSHIRE. £ 1 REWARD. 23 — Neath ( Borough).— For deserting his wife and family— GEORGE DEAKIN, age 37 to 40, height about 5 ft. 7 in., round shoulders, complexion sallow, long face, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes ( full, cast in one) hazel, stoops and carries his head forward. A herbalist; native of Neath ; may be found at markets selling herbs, sweets, etc. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the Neath Union to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Deakin. Information to Chief Constable Kilpatrick, Neath. HAMPSHIRE. 24.— Lyndhurst ( County).— For deserting his wife and family, whereby they became charge- able to the common fund of the Lymington Union — DAVID JOHN TOTTERDELL, age 44, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown ( turning grey), eyes blue, cut mark under lower lip, is addicted to drink. A clerk ; native of Lymington, Hants. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Courtney, Lyndhurst. 25.— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing a horse— WILLIAM HATCH, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, complexion and hair dark, slight moustache dark brown ; dress, grey or brown coat, cord trousers ( tight fitting). A native of Nomansland, Hants; will probably be found in the company of low horse dealers. Warrant issued. 26.— Southampton ( Borough).— For steal- ing a bicycle ( bailee)— FRANK HEWITT, age about 26, height about 6 ft., well built, complexion, hair, small moustache, and eyes dark, pointed nose ; dress, dark blue suit and hard felt hat, or grey coat and vest, breeches and brown leggings. Of smart appearance ; a clerk or estate agent. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HEREFORDSHIRE, 27.— Ledbury ( County).— For stealing, 14th inst., a brown market basket, about 20 in. long, 15 in. wide ; 3 table knives, white handles, " Abraham Brookbank, Malinder Works, Sheffield," thereon ; 3 silver- plated forks, stamped " B crown, X crown, and D. C. A." ; 3 do. spoons, stamped " W. F. B." and cross keys— By A MAN, age 31, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, thin face, hair brown, moustache red, eyes blue, cut mark back of head ; dress, brown jacket and vest, grey trousers, black hard hat or wide brimmed hat with dent in top ( no band), old boots. Hawks ferns, watercress, & c.; supposed a native of London. Information to Supt. Phillips, Ledbury. HERTFORDSHIRE. 28.- Hertford ( County).— For obtaining a number of engineer's tools by false pretences— H. BUCKLAND, alias CANN, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., slight build, complexion and moustache dark, pock- marked, American accent; dress, dark rough blue serge suit, black hard felt hat, lace boots. He represented himself as an engineer, obtained the tools on loan, stating he had some work to execute, disposed of them, and absconded. Was accompanied by a woman, age about 27, short, delicate appearance, and a boy age 11 years. Warrant issued. 29.— Hertford { County).— For stealing, 5th inst., at Essendon, a thermometer ( recovered)— WILLIAM MITCHELL, age 46, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) and moustache turning grey, sharp nose; dress, dark jacket, black vest, grey striped trousers, grey waterproof cap, new lace boots. A painter. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Shore, County Police Office, Hertford. KENT. 30.— Sandwich ( County).— For burglary— A YOUTH, who gave the name of C. FRANKLIN, age about 14, height 4 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion fresh, sunburnt, hair brown ; dress, bluish grey jacket, light trousers, tweed cap, light lace boots. Supposed a native of Ilford, Essex. Information to Supt. Chaney, Sandwich. 31.- Dover ( Borough).— For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle ( recovered)— JOE FAWCETT, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache light brown ; dress, bluish grey suit, white straw hat, with red, blue, and khaki coloured band. An engine driver ; native of Dover. Warrant issmed. 32.— Dover { Borough).— For stealing £ 37— CARLO DANNESI, an Italian, age 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., slight build, complexion, hair, and eyes dark, long moustache dark brown, speaks very little English ; dress, dark clothes and cap. An ice cream vendor ; previously employed as a ship's fireman. Absconded 4th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Sanders, Dover. 33.— Folkestone ( Borough).— For obtain- ing money by false pretences — HERBERT AUSTIN COLLINGWOOD, alias RICHARD COLLINS, age 33 ( looks older), height about 5 ft. 5 in., wrinkled face, hair ( bald in front) inclined to ginger, clean shaved, small ( weak) eyes dark, abscess scar on one cheek, head inclines to left side, rather high forehead, several front upper teeth missing, sometimes wears blue glasses, short quick step ; dress, blue serge suit, black bow tie, blue cap or black hard felt hat, brown boots with square toes ( rubber soles), carries a congo- wood stick ( crook handle, silver mounted). May seek employment with bill posters ; supposed a native of Maidstone. Stays at common lodging- houses. He represented that a legacy had been left to him and required money to enable him to employ a solicitor. Absconded 7th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Reeve, Folke- stone. LANCASHIRE. 34.— Bolton ( County).— For stealing, 30th ult., at Westhoughton, a silver English lever watch. No. 24, plain cases; a blue and white striped cotton shirt; and 31s.— THOMAS HULL, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, carries his head forward, blue mark under right eye; dress, black worsted jacket and vest, brown cloth trousers, light colour cap, clogs. A collier. — ANNIE SHIELDS, age 34, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes dark, rather long nose ; dress, black dress, light brown cape, white straw sailor hat, trimmed black ribbon, carried a light brown shawl. Had with her a male child, age 6 months. Absconded 30th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Leeming, County Police Office, Bolton. 35. — Sal ford ( Borough). — For failing to report— Licence- holder ABRAHAM DAWSON, alias KELLETT, Office No. 723- 00, age 50, height 5 ft. 5J in., complexion fresh, hair brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, bridge of nose broken, scar fore- head, left eyebrow, and left of neck. A butcher ; native of Holbeck. Sentenced at York Assizes 27th November, 1897, to 3 years penal servitude for horse stealing. Licenced 20th March last. X. 391. ( recovered)— ROBERT MARFLEET, age 21, height fl ft, 6J in., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, scar back of right forearm, palm of left hand, and left 1st linger, mole on both arms; wearing brown suit, square toe boots. A fish and potato mer- chant ; native of Dresden, Stall's. May be found lodging at public houses. Previously convicted at Stafford, and Derby Quarter Sessions of horse stealing. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Burford, Ashbourne.
