Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they arc alphabeticaiiy arranged by couidies. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE V" R AZETTE, must, mi ' their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annowncement will be wholly responsible fur any proceedings which may result from such, publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be for tour tied so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They • must, be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. SPECIAL NOTICE. In certain cases questions have arisen as to the payment for photographs applied for by Police Forces under Home Office circular of 15th March, 1897. The Registrar of Habitual Criminals is therefore authorised by the Secretary of State to Bay that, in any ordinary case, a photograph is not. necessary to enable his Department to identify a prisoner, the measurements and finger prints being sufficient for the purpose ; but if a photo- graph is applied for, or if, in any rare case, it should be required to complete the identification, the cost will be charged to the Police Force interested.
