Particulars concerning persons whose appndwnsi m is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are suffi ie/ it to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one isuie. if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all eases where a reward is o'ferel. the name and address of same person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property zoill be inserted at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed' by the signature of an officer of not less rank th in Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him,, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the annouoicement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annou/ ncement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Satu/ rday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the. paper only ; they must be in the usual form,, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post. Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. R. ANDERSON, Editor. SPECIAL NOTICE. The amount of stolen property at present " circu- lated " by the Metropolitan Police has become so inordinately large as to prejudice or destroy the practical value of the records, and it has been found necessary to limit it very considerably. It has been decided, therefore, to discontinue the " cir- culation " in Informationsand Pawnbrokers' Lists of all property stolen in the provinces, unless where there are grounds for believing that the property has found its way to the Metropolis. Chief Con- stables are requested accordingly, when forwarding lists of stolen property to Scotland Yard, to send with them a letter to that effect. And if bills or circulars are received in future, unaccompanied by such a letter, it will be assumed that the " circula- tion " of the particulars they contain is not desired.
