Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought- will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if then are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4 In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the e ract conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offe/ wes, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15 s. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE CRAZETTE, mint, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the. fact, referring to the number of the amwuncement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must, be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and aeeompanicd by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. SPECIAL NOTICE. FUGITIVE OFFENDERS. A case has come under the notice of the Editor, Mn which a person whose apprehension was sought in England, and who was described in the POLICE GAZETTE, gave himself up to the Colonial Police. The prosecutor declined to take any further action in the matter, but the case necessitated the dispatch of two telegrams, the cost of which had to be refunded by him. To avoid such expense, the Editor requests that if there is reason to believe that a fugitive offender is likely to go to the Colonies, and the prosecutor is unwilling to incur any expense with a view to obtain his surrender, a notification be made in the communication sent to this Office to the effect that the offender is not to be arrested beyond the United Kingdom. The necessity for the adoption of such a course will be apparent from the fact that the POLICE GAZETTE is circulated in the Colonies. Was last heard of 29th ult., when he was accompanied by a woman, age about 30, complexion pale, hair black, eyes dark, lame ; wearing a three- quarter length brown jacket, white straw sailor hat with dark band. A horse dealer ; native of Kelso. He sold worthless horses as Bound, and upon their being returned resold them and absconded. Previously convicted at Edinburgh and Northallerton. Warrant issued.
