XVII., No. 1688, REGULATIONS. 1 All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating ' to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. " 2. Particulars concerning pm'sons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by arwtlwr force. . 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be Iikewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enatde the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must, be given, and the cruet conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property trill be inserted at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of Is. Gd. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. - 6. Even/ announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and. if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the ch ief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they arc alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the. fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement irill bo wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should, be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on our side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, cither at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street, Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will he given on application. R. ANDERSON, Editor. Fre- quent complaints are received about a Servants' Registry Office carried on at 12 Cholmley Villas, Thames Ditton, Surrey, by one HENRI HENRIKSON, alias HENDERSON, in the name of MISS LEE. The names of some servants are kept on this man's books, and enough business is done to save him from a charge of fraud, but in most cases his sole object is to obtain fees from applicants. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 1.— C Division.— For personation, forgery and fraud— ALBERT LINDR1DGE, Office No. 1463- 9( 1, age 53, height 5 ft. 7£ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes light hazel, 3 moles on nose, large jagged scar inside left thigh and left groin ; dress, light tweed suit. A native of Rye, Sussex. Warrant issued. 2.— E Division. — For obtaining horse- clipping machines by false pretences — F. W. FENNER, alias WILLIAM FENTON and ATKINS, age 29, height 6 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, crown, dot, stroke, and mole right forearm, 3 scars right fore- finger, several moles on neck, large feet, walks with 2 sticks, wears long brown overcoat. A native of Canning Town. Warrant issued. 3.— E Division.— For stealing 6 letters, one containing a cheque for £ 3 19s.— CHARLES WETHERILL, age 20, height 5 ft. Id in., com- plexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue, pimples on face; wearing brown waterproof coat, red tie, bowler hat, brown boots. Warrant issued. 4.— G Division•— For shopbreaking, 27th January, and stealing a quantity of gold and gold- plated eyeglass and spectacle frames, and about £ 20 — HORACE EDWARD GEORGE, alias JOHN MARSTON BURKETT, and H. GEORGE & CO., age 35 to 40, height 6 ft., stout build, com- plexion fresh, round face, hair dark, clean shaved. Is well educated and of good appearance and address; well dressed, wears a black satin tie with pearl pin. 5.— W Division.— For larceny ( servant)— JOHN STEWART, age 38, height 5 ft. 8| in., complexion and hair dark, eyes blue ; dress, dark jacket suit, may be wearing a dark grey double- breasted Chesterfield overcoat, " M. Wolfe, West- minster Bridge," on tab. May seek employment as a super at provincial theatres and music halls. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. 6.— Newbury ( County).— For stealing 6 pairs trousers ( recovered)— HENRY SMITH, age 46, height 5 ft. 6} in., complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache ( turning grey) dark, scar over right eye; dress, dark jacket, brown striped trousers, brown peak cap, shoes. A native of Newbury ; tramps the country. Has been pre- viously convicted. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Robotham, Newbury. 7.— Reading ( Borough).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 3rd ult.— RICHARD SKINNER, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion, hair, and slight moustache dark ( some- times clean shaved). He takes lodgings at a private house and advertises ferrets, & c., for sale at a very low price, and in this way obtains various sums of money and absconds. Is accompanied by his wife, age 26, height 5 ft. .' 1 in., very fair complexion, hair light, of delicate appearance. Warrant issued. Information to Capt. Henderson, Chief Con- stable, Reading. BRECONSHIRE. 8.— Crickhowell ( County). — For dis- obedience of a maintenance order— WILLIAM RUMSEY, age 34, height 5 ft. 2 in., stiff build, complexion fair, hair and moustache light brown, eyes blue, pug nose, short neck, cut scar on chin, left index finger crooked, of intemperate habits. A native of Crickhowell; recently worked as a labourei at foundries, & c. Warrant issued. Information to Snpt. Winterson, Crickhowell. CARMARTHENSHIRE. 9.— Carmarthen { County).— For stealing timber— WILLIAM SAUNDERS, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair ( inclined to curl) and moustache red, eyes blue, long recent scar back of left hand ; dress, blue serge suit, bowler hat. A sawyer ; native of Beaford, Devon. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Carmarthen. CARNAR VONSHIRE. 10.— Carnarvon ( County).— For perjury— THOMAS M. WILLIAMS, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, eyes ( small) blue, rather bow- legged.— ROBERT MORRIS WILLIAMS ( brother of above), age 27, height 5 ft. 8£ in., strong build, broad shoulders, complexion fresh, hair light, moustache sandy, eyes blue, heavy eyebrows. A slate quarryman. Both wearing light overcoats and grey soft hats. Natives of Waenfawr. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rowland, Carnarvon. DENBIGHSHIRE. 11.— Wrexham ( County).— For embezzle- ment— SOLOMON YATES, age 30 to 32, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion, hair and eyes dark, may be wearing a dark moustache, round features, of Jewish descent: wearing blue jacket and vest, overcoat, black felt hat, brown lace boots. DEVONSHIRE. 1-'.- Devonport ( Borough).— For stealing, 19th nit., a silver open- face watch, No. 12572, " Samuel Edgcumbe" on dial, a silver cable- pattern Albert, with a spiked compass attached ; 1 old silver verge watch, case worn through ; 1 silver Albert, long and short links alternately, 2 pendants ( 1 square- shaped locket and compass combined, photograph of a woman inside, 1 horse- shoe compass) attached; 1 pair of men's lace boots, toe caps— GEORGE PARKER, age 23, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion rather dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown, good set of teeth, true Love tattooed front of left forearm, anchor and heart on outside and anchor on front of right forearm, scar on scalp above left eye ; dress, dark brown mixed jacket suit, blue skull cap, white turn- down collar and front combined, blue tie ( sailor's knot), and the stolen boots. He travels the country with an old bay pony, and a cart with tent poles therein, " Uriah Gray, Great Totham, Essex" thereon; accompanied by a woman, and a girl age 3 years— JOHN WEBB, age 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair, side whiskers, and eyes dark: dress, old cord jacket suit, brown cap— VALENTINE WEBB, age 17, height 4 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark ; dress, brown jacket, cord trousers, brown cap. FLINTSHIRE. 1"). — mold { County). — On commitment warrant for non- pavment of a fine and costs— MATTHEW SPENCER, age about 60, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair grey, clean shaved, walks lame, appearance of a farmer; dress, grey tweed suit, black felt hat, lace boots. Is known at Chester, Manchester, Liverpool, Wrexham, and Crewe. He travels the country with a horse and a spring cart, selling hams and cheese. Accompanied by a woman, age about 55, very stout. Information to Supt. Davies, Mold. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 10.— Cheltenham ( County),— For obtain- ing jewellery by a fictitious cheque ( see Case No. IS, 23rd ult.)— G. BLACKMAN, or BLAKE- MAN, BLACKMORE, or BLAKEMORE, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, hair and beard dark, short and pointed, turning grey, speaks quickly ; dress, dark mixture suit, dark tie, black soft felt hat, blue Inverness overcoat with cape, carried a small brown leather bag. Was accompanied by A WOMAN, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion pale, long face, hair dark brown ; dress, black dress, light drab colour short jacket, sailor hat trimmed velvet and jet flowers, carried a small handbag. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. HADDINGTONSHIRE. 17.— Haddington ( County).— For embezzle- ment— FREDERICK W. BRYANT, age 42, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion sallow, hair ( turning grey) dark brown, slight moustache, eyes ( cast in left) grey, artificial right leg and foot, stiff at knee, scar above left eye; usually dressed in dark clothes. Talks of having been abroad. Lately employed as a laundry manager. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Mann, Haddington. HAMPSHIRE. 18.— Southampton ( Borough).— For em- bezzlement.— FREDERICK BOYLETT, age 36, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion sallow, hair, moustache, and eyes dark ; dress, dark overcoat, dark mixture coat and vest, black serge trousers and cap, dark brown striped muffler, lace boots. A ship's baker ; native of Pirbright. Has in his possession discharges from the steamships " Paris, " St. Louis," and " St. Paul." Absconded 12th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, South- ampton. HEREFORDSHIRE. 19.— Ledbury ( County).— For leaving his wife and family chargeable to the Ledbury Union, 17th ult. — WILLIAM COOPER, age 25, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache black, eyes dark; dress, dark jacket and vest, fustian trousers, black hard hat, strong nail boots. A pedlar ; native of Coventry. Has in his pos- session a pedlar's certificate, granted at Ledbury, 9th November, 1899. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Phillips, Ledbury. HERTFORDSHIRE. 20- St. Albans ( County).— For stealing a nearly new plain leather purse, £ 1, and 2 postage stamps— WILLIAM GREEN, age 37, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion, hair, and moustache ( turning grey) dark, walks erect, of military appearance; dress, light cloth dust overcoat, cord trousers, cloth cap. A farm labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Hassall, County Police Office, St. Albans. 21.— Watford ( County). — For embezzle- ment— THOMAS COBB, age 29 ( looks younger), height about 5 ft. 8^ in., complexion florid, hair, small moustache light brown; dress, black diagonal coat and vest, coat patched below right pocket, dark trousers, light stripe cap. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Wood, Watford. ISLE OF WIGHT. 22.— Newport ( County).— For stealing, 6tli ult., a silver watch and chain ( recovered) — A WOMAN, who gave the names of MONTRESS, MORTON and GRAY, age about 55, height about 5 ft., slight build, complexion and hair ( turning grey) dark ; dress, black three- quarter jacket, piece of black fur around neck, old black alpaca dress, small dark bonnet and veil, carried an umbrella. She calls at houses, pro- duces a testimonial purporting to have been given by a manager of a London firm, and states she is in search of a runaway daughter. Supposed known at Bournemouth, London, Liverpool and Portsmouth. Information to Chief Inspector Ayres, Quay Street, Newport, KENT. 23.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For stealing a pony and cart ( recovered)— WILLIAM EVES, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft, 2 or 3 in., complexion fair, moustache light, humpbacked ; wearing large pattern plaid suit. A hawker. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Jones, Ramsgate. LANCASHIRE. 34.— Prescot ( County).— For housebreaking at Rainhill, 22nd Jan.— Expiree JOHN TONER, alius JOHN FLANIGAN and GEORGE GLOVER, Office No. 42607, age 64, height 5 ft. 2* in., com- plexion sallow, hair and whiskers turning grey, eyes blue, J. M. B. front of left forearm, anchor between left thumb and finger ; may be found working on flats or canal boats. Sentenced at Liverpool Assizes 6th November, 1886, to 7 years' penal servitude for burglary ; liberated 11th April, 1892. C. M. 450. Information to Superintendent Baxendale, Prescot. 25.— Wit/ an ( County). — For stealing, 31st Jan., at Bamfurlong, a Swiss silver lever watch, No. 709078, large figures, 10/ 666/ 9 M scratched inside outer case, and 19s.— DENNIS TOCKER, age 17, height 4 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, hair and eyes brown, large nose ; dress, slate colour coat and cap, dark brown cord trousers, clogs. Previously convicted of larceny, and has been on a reformatory ship. Information to Supt. Brassington, Wigan. 26 — Bootle ( Borough).— For stealing. 21st ult., a lady's gold watch ( recovered), and a 9 ct. gold chain— MARY ESTCOURT, alias BARTON and COURTNEY, age about 2S, height 5 ft. 4 in. complexion fresh, hair ( short) dark brown, eyes brown, thin sharp nose, of theatrical appearance • dress, grey costume, grey vest with blue check! black straw hat trimmed white lace, brown gloves carried a square handbag. She obtains lodgings: on the representation that she is employed in the neighbourhood. Information to the Chief Constable, Bootle. LEICESTERSHIRE. 27.— Leicester ( Borough).— For obtaining, by a worthless cheque on the East Molesey Bank, on 20th ult., 1 18 ct, double close- curb Albert; 1 diamond and pearl brooch, circle pattern ; 3 diamonds in shape of shamrock and a large pearl between ; 1 gun- metal watch, No. 860144, Roman dial; 1 plain 9 ct. gold cigarette case.— A MAN, giving the name of W. V. CLIFFORD, age about 35, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, small moustache light brown, walks erect; dress, dark blue overcoat, striped or check trousers, turr- down collar, low at neck, black and white stripe tie, brown hard hat, new tan colour gloves : of good appearance and address. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall. Leicester. LINCOLNSHIRE. 28.- Boston ( County).— For the abduction of a girl— WILLIAM WELCH, age 32, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, mous- tache light, eyes blue, bracelet tattooed on both wrists, tortoise, woman, Prince of Wales feathers, boy, and flower pot on arms, walks erect; dress, blue cord jacket and vest, brown cord trousers patched at knees, violet and black neckerchief, old light peak cap, light lace boots, dark blue overcoat; may be found on public works. De- scription of the girl— ROSETTA ELIZABETH CROSS, age 16, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, small scar on fore- head ; dress, brown double- breasted jacket with large buttons, black dress, coloured straw hat with brown velvet band, may be wearing blue cloth costume skirt, trimmed black braid. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Costar, Boston. NORFOLK. 29.— Norwich ( City).— For obtaining money by false pretences— WILLIAM POND, age 27, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, small moustache light, eyes blue : dress, black overcoat, mixture cloth jacket and vest, brown breeches and gaiters, coloured wrapper, cloth cap. A dairyman; native of Norwich. Frequents public- houses in company of farmers and dealers. May endeavour to enlist. Warrant issued. 30.— Norwich ( City).— For fraud and larceny ( bailee)— CHARLES HENRY BURTON, alias JAMES HENDERSON, age about 50, height 5 ft. 10 in., stout build, broad shoulders, complexion fresh, hair and moustache black, eyes ( small) dark, gout in hands and feet; addicted to drink, of good address, turns his feet outwards when walking. Is frequently accompanied by his wife, age 43, and daughter, age 18. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Winch, Nor- wich. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 31.— Northampton ( County).— For larceny and assault on police— PADDY DRINKWATER. age 25 or 26, height 5 ft., complexion fresh, hair and small moustache light, nose broken ; dress, old dark coat and vest, red and black guernsey, supposed cord trousers. Is fond of boxing ; may- be found at common lodging- houses. Warrant issued. 32.— Northampton ( County).— For obtain- ing 10s. by false pretences— CYRIL R. CUTLER, age 30 to 35, height 5ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache light, small eyes ; dress, brown covert coat, drab knickerbockers, black hard hat, brown leggings, lace boots. Stated he was a hay and cattle dealer. He calls on clergy- men, stating he has come from home on business, that he has left his purse behind, and requires money to pay his fare back. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Webster, County Police Office, Northampton. STAFFORDSHIRE. 33.— Lichfield ( County).— For stealing, 1st ult., at Chasetown, 1 lady's gold Geneva watch; 2 silver patent English levers ; 1 silver watch ; 1 do., engine turned cases; 6 metal stop watches; 1 pair Bedford cord breeches; and 1 pair leather leggings— SAMUEL SAUL, age 19, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown; dress, light brown coat, corduroy breeches, cap, brown boots and leggings. A native of Brades Village, Oidbury. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Barrett, Lichfield. FRIDAY, MARCH 2, 1900. 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. PORTRAIT OF A PERSON IN CUSTODY. CITY OF LONDON. 36.— Awaiting sentence at Central Criminal Court, 12th inst.. having been convicted of larceny ( confidence trick)— WILLIAM ANDREWS, age 62, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair, whiskers, and moustache grey ( dyed brown when arrested), eyes brown, 2 moles back of right fore- arm ; dress, brown suit, blue overcoat, bowler hat. A card sharper; attends race meetings. Is believed to have been previously convicted, and to be known as " Worcester Bill." Information to be forwarded to Supt. Mc William, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. and moustache ( turning grey) dark, eyes brown, oval face; wearing dark clothes. A native of Clapham. May be accompanied by a woman and 5 children. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. brown, scar right cheek. A jockey or stableman ; native of Abercarn, Monmouthshire. Warrant issued. M — E Division. — For falsification of accounts — GEORGE MATHISON DOWNTON, age 41, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion, hair, £ 1 REWARD. 35.— Risca ( Calmly).— For deserting his wife and family, 23rd September last— BENJAMIN HAVARD, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) and eyes dark STAFFORDSHIRE. 37.— Longton County).— For burglary, 20th Jan., at Fenton, and stealing a pair of men's light lace boots, size 9, toe capped; 1 black silk umbrella, cherrywood stick with silver ferrule— JOHN THOMAS BAINBRIDGE, alias ALBERT WILLIAM WILSON, and HODDSKIN, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., rather stout build, complexion, hair, slight moustache, and eyes dark, impediment in speech ; dress, dark cloth suit, light cloth cap, lace boots. A native of Bishop Auckland. Is a member of the Society of Friends, of which he is fond of talking. Warrant issued. 38.- Longton ( County). — For obtaining a Gladstone travelling bag by false pretences— MICHAEL or JOHN KELLY, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 10 in., well built, complexion fresh, full face, hair and side whiskers dark, eyes ( full) grey, of smart appearance ; dress, dark drab coat and vest, light cord breeches and leggings, white tie, black hat, lace boots. A groom and coach- man ; native of Dundrum. Warrant issued. Information to Supt.
