A U annov. wenw. rUs for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all covmmiications relating tn thrm, should he addressed to THE EDITOR OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAKD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought mill be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another firce. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to he thereby identified. 4. In all eases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will he inserted, at a cost of 15*. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photo- qraph or sketch of a stolen article. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must, be guaranteed, by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if t'lie name of such person is required to be inserted5. and no warrant is in force against. 1dm, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 1. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. w 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they arc alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which, causes particulars cowerni/ ng delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE CRAZETTE. must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the. fact, referring to the number of the announcement; for insertion, in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will bt wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the. paper only ; they must be in the - usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must, be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order% oi' by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing tan only be accepted on payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. R. ANDERSON, EdiUr. SPECIAL NOTICE. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detection of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hopeof preventing delays which some- times occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regula- tions in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points— ( a) The amount of the reward. ( b) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The name and address of the person by whom it will be paid. ( d) The name and address of the printer must appear thereon. ( 32 and 33 Vic., cap. 24, sec. 2.) 2. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holdingout any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. Attention is particularly directed to theconditions ( a) to ( rf), clause 1, as Police Notices are constantly being received by the Metropolitan Police in which the conditions mentioned have not been complied with, especially those marked ( a) and ( c). Such notices are not distributed. NOTE.— There are 190 Stations of the Metro- politan Police Force at which Notices can be posted. ISLE OF WIGHT. 17.— Newport { County).— For obtaining £ 20 by false pretences, 8th ult.— ARTHUR HIBBERD, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes ( deep set) blue; dress, morning suit. A butler ; carried a black bag and some paper parcels. Absconded 2nd inst., accompanied by a woman, age 28, small build, hair black, complexion and eyes dark ; had with her a brown tin clothes- box and a hat- box. May endeavour to leave the country. Sentenced at Liverpool Assizes, 8th May, 1893, to 7 years penal servitude for possessing a mould for counterfeit coin. Licensed 17th September, 1898. T. 209. NORFOLK. 27.— Docking { County).— For embezzlement — FREDERICK BEST, age about 60, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair, moustache, and side whiskers grey, eyes dark brown, usually wears glasses, of smart appearance ; dress, dark tweed suit, Alpine hat, sometimes wears a fur cap. Was employed as caretaker at Hunstanton County Club. Stated he was a native of London. Left Hunstanton 3rd inst., accompanied by his wife, age about 35. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Baldwin, Docking. 28.— Norwich { City).— For failing to sur- render to his bail at Norwich City Quarter Sessions, 10th October last, charged with fraud— JOHN SAUNDERS, age 21, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache light brown, eyes grey, man's head, 3 fishes, and indistinct tattoo marks on left arm, 3 dots back of left hand, ring 4th left finger, scar on forehead and right elbow, 6 mole spots right arm. NORTHAMPTONSHIRe. 29.— Daventry { County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences at Crick, between 14th and 16th inst.— A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown, heavy moustache light brown, beard about 3 days' growth, eyes blue, north country accent; dress, black jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, light dust coat, red and black tie, brown cap, lace boots. Stated he was a foreman in the Government Telegraph Depart- ment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hustler, Daventry NORTHUMBERLAND. 30 — Newcastle- on- Tyne { City)— For failing to report — Licence- holder DANIEL DONALDSON, Office No. 1983- 98, age 36, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, indistinct tattoo mark back left fore- arm and between left thumb and finger, D back of right forearm, blue scar on right eyelid. Sentenced at Newcastle- on- Tyne, 7th April, 1893, to 7 years penal servitude, for counting- house- breaking. Licenced 8th July last. L T 204. . The above reward will be paid by the Berwick Board of Guardians to any person giving suoh information as will lead to the arrest of Sanders. £ 2 REWARD. 32.— Berwick { Borough).— For neglecting to maintain his family— ROBERT HERBERT- SON, age 37, height 5 ft. 3i in. A miner ; native of Kilbirnie, Scotland. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by the Berwick Board of Guardians to any person giving such information as will lead to the arrest of Herbertson. Information to Head Constable Nicholson, Berwick. AS.- Kings Lynn ( Borough).— For stealing £ 290— ARTHUR BOULTER, age 24, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and small mous- tache light brown, eyes blue ; dress, brown tweed suit, dark cloth overcoat with yellowish plaid lining, red tie, black hard felt hat, brown boots. A brewer's clerk ; native of Norwich. The above reward will be paid by Messrs. Steward and Patterson, Limited, Norwich and Lynn, for such information as will lead to the arrest of Boulter.
