W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to he taken upon them. by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is o/ Fcrcd, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment mus' be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15.*. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. Ever ii announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed' by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent.; and, if the name of such person is required to he inserted and iw warrant is in force against him, the requisition m ust he signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning itolfin property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property hear a number, and, as far as pract icable, they are alphabet icully arranged by counties. 9. The force, which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted • in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the. fact, referring to the number of the anno u/ iicemcnt, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In. all eases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11 Announcements for the Friday issue should he forwarded so as to he received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one . tide of the paper only ; they must he in the - usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post. Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payment, and the cJiarges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. R. ANDERSON, Editor. An auctioneer's clerk. Absconded 22nd June last. Warrant issued. 2.— C Division.— For stealing £ 17 10s.— EDWARD STANLEY EVERSFIELD, age 21, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion fresh and sunburnt, hair dark brown, eyes dark ; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, grey trousers, white straw hat. An auctioneer's clerk ; supposed native of Tunbridge Wells. Absconded 16th ult. Warrant issued. 3.— L Division.— For embezzling £ 30— EDWARD WILLIAM WARLAND, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion, hair, and mous- tache dark, eyes brown ; dress, blue serge jacket suit, black hard felt hat. An Army Reservist of the 4th Hussars, native of Walworth, Surrey. Warrant issued. 4. — L Division. — For embezzlement— HARRY E. W. WALTERS, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion very pale, hair and moustache light, eyes blue, small white pimples on cheeks ; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, light tweed trousers, white straw hat. A solicitor's clerk native of London. Absconded 3rd inst. Warrant issued. o.— W Division.— For embezzling £ 30— WILLIAM BENJAMIN TETLEY, age 33, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair, hair ( cut short) light, eyes blue, of military appearance ; dress, brown tweed suit, cloth cap. W. litoz CITY OF LONDON. 6.— For forgery— JOHN VON DER MARS, a German, age about 25, height 5 ft. 10 in., complex- ion sallow, hair and slight moustache dark, mole left cheek, speaks English well, of gentlemanly appearance. 7.— For embezzlement— SIMON COHEN, a Mogador Jew, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion dark olive, hair black, awkward gait, speaks with foreign accent. BERKSHIRE. 8.— Maidenhead { County).— For obtain- ing £ 1 lis. by fraud, 21st ult., at Bray— A MAN, age about 45, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes sunken ; dress, grey overcoat, dark grey trousers, black bowler hat, low crown, rather flat brim, carried a dark stick with crooked handle. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Dorrell, Maidenhead. 9.— Wokingham { County).— For stealing at Bracknell on 11th ult., a horse, and cab ( re- covered) — JOHN SHACKLER, alias DARKEY JACK, Office No. 2056- 99, age 19, height 5 ft. 7J in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, slight moustache, eyes brown, faint dot on back left forearm and left middle finger, mole back of right forearm, above left eye, and on right eyebrow; dress, black serge jacket and vest, grey plaid trousers trimmed blue braid, blue and red necker- chief, black and white check cap, brown boots. A dealer ; native of Ash Hampstead ; last known address 125, Great Knollys Street, Reading. Sen- tenced at Winchester County Sessions, 4th April last, to 3 months hard labour for breaking a window with intent to steal; previously con- victed at Oxford and Caversham. Warrant issued. BUCKINGHAMSHI RE. 10.— Fenny Stratford { County).— For stealing 13th ult,, a Postal Order for £ 1 issued at Enfield Wash, and £ 5 12s.— A MAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, hair light, clean shaved, teeth very dark, one upper- front tooth deficient; dress, grey jacket, slate colour striped trousers, cap, brown shoes, wears a ring set blue stones on left little finger, rode a bicycle; stated he was taking the place of a booking clerk at the railway station. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lait, Fenny stratford. 11.— Slough { County).— For obtaining, 1th ult., by false pretences, a pair of guns ( recovered) — H. WINDSOR, alias LEONARD, age 60, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair white, square- cut moustache, eyes light blue, small birthmark side of right eye, quiet manner ; dress, blue serge coat and vest, grey trousers, brown soft felt hat. Warrant issued. FOX, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 11 in. or 6 ft., complexion and hair dark, peculiar look about the eyes, round shouldered, stoops slightly, and turns his feet out; when in drink he is very talkative, especially about Liverpool and America ; dress, black jacket and vest, dark tweed trousers, black hard felt hat, light lace boots. CLACKMANNANSHIRE. 14.— Alloa ( Burgh).— For embezzling about £ 52— JOHN JACK ROBERTSON, age 40 to 50, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., stout build, complexion florid, full face, heavy jaws, hair dark brown ( turning grey), heavy brownish moustache, hairy nose, fiat feet, speaks quickly ; dress, dark tweed jacket suit, black tie, black hard felt hat, lace boots. Chesterfield ( Borough).— For steal- ing, 16th ult., a brown double - breasted cloth vest; 1 pair greenish square check cloth trousers, with hip pocket; 1 white silk tie ; 1 green shot do.; 1 cigarette- holder, amber mouthpiece, 2 silver ferrules thereon, in a black leather case lined red— A MAN, age about 21, height 5 ft. 6 in., rather stout build, complexion fair, red face, hair light, eyes light blue ; dress, snuff colour coat, light check trousers, red silk tie. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 21- Cardiff ( Borough). — For stealing a watch and chain and clothing — HERBERT HOPE MAXTED, alias SEYMOUR, age 29, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, long face, hair dark brown, usually clean shaved, eyes brown, large mouth, cut scar right side of upper lip ; dreBS, dark blue serge suit, white straw hat with black band, stand up collar, bow tie, patent leather boots. A tailor's cutter or foreman. Native of Hove ; may be found in the company of music hall artists. , Warrant issued. ^ 22.— Cardiff ( Borough).— For stealing £ 1, 26th ult.— HARRY DAViD, alias DAVIES, age 19, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, round face, hair red, eyes blue ; dress, white jacket, black trousers, brown and black tweed cap, lace boots. A ship's cook ; native of Aberdeen. May endeavour to go to sea or seek employment at a seaman's boarding house. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable McKenzie, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 23.— Stroud ( County).— For assault on police — GEORGE HAINES, alias " WHACK," age 31, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., stout build, complexion sunburnt, hair dark brown, eyes blue ; dress, dark or blue monkey jacket, moleskin trousers, light brown soft hat, heavy lace boots. A navvy, native of Forest Green, Nailsworth. Has been employed on public works. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Harrison, Stroud. HAMPSHIRE. 24.— Bournemouth ( County).— For steal- ing, 2nd ult., a gold bracelet ( recovered)— NEVILLE CHARLTON, age about 25, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., full face, hair brown, clean shaved, carbuncle scar left of neck and on right forearm; dress, brown suit, straw hat, brown boots, of gentlemanly appearance. He stayed at a high- class boarding house with a brother and another man, both of good appearance. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Forster, Bournemouth. 25.— Kingsclere ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— ARTHUR ROBINSON, alias JONES, age about 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., stout build, complexion fair ( round features), hair and moustache light; dress, blue or black jacket, grey flannel trousers, coloured shirt and tie, white straw hat, white shoes ; of good appearance. He has obtained various sums of money by repre- senting that he is the son of a doctor, and is a medical student, and has had an accident with his bicycle, resulting in an injury to his hand. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Daniels, Kingsclere. 26 — Winchester ( City).— For obtaining £ 4 18s. Od. by a forged cheque on the Diss branch of the London and Provincial Banking Company, Limited, 14th inst.— AMY THOMP- SON ( supposed false), age about 35, height about 5 ft. 2 in., pale face, hair dark ; dress, dark blue blouse, dark skirt, light hat; carried a new dark plaid holdall with two straps and handle attached. She called on a shopkeeper and made a small pur- chase, and then gave an order for some goods ( not in stock), and directed that on their arrival they were to be forwarded to the house of a well- known resident, and then asked the shopkeeper to cash the above cheque. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Felton, Win- chester. 27.— Southampton ( Borough).— For being concerned with a man in custody for highway robbery with violence CALLAGHAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, hair and slight moustache dark; dress, dark grey mixture coat, dark blue vest, grey trousers, blue serge cap, lace boots.— MICHAEL DAVEY, alias McDAVEY and MICK DAVIS, age about 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion, hair, and moustache dark, left hand withered, which he usually carries in his coat pocket; dress, black cloth coat and vest, brown or grey trousers, a fire- man's blue or black cap, old lace " boots. Both are ship's firemen, and natives of Liverpool. Information to the Chief Constable, South- ampton. J3^ HEREFORDSHIRE. 28.— Ross ( County).— For stealing, 21st ult.. at Upton Bishop, a black mare, 15 hands, 6 years, white star on forehead, thick mane, knees grazed, lump on one side, in good condition— A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair cut short and turning grey, clean shaved, eyes blue, speaks with London accent; dress, supposed brown suit, cap or soft hat, the appearance of a groom or low horse dealer. He travels the country with a four- wheel waggonette, pointed dark green picked out red, containing harness and wedding apparel. Is concerned with WILLIAM SMITH, Case No. 63. Information to Supt. ELDER, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 8 in., rather high shoulders, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes rather full, of good appearance and address. Has been engaged at the Metropolitan Meat Market, and iB believed to be known to managers of Colonial Meat Agencies in various towns. Warrant issued. 30. — St. Albans ( City). — For stealing ( bailee) £ 5 3s. 6d.— CHARLES GRAY, age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 4 in., rather small features, hair and moustache dark, limps slightly, tattooed on arms, including woman on one, Crucifixion on the other. A carter or horsekeeper. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Blatch, St. Albans. KENT. 31.— Canterbury County).— Forleavinghis children chargeable to the Blean Union— PORTER AYLMORE, age 39, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, woman's head tattooed left forearm. A master mariner; trades between Guernsey, London, and North of England. Native of Bosham, near Chichester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sargent, County Police Office, Canterbury. 32.— Chatham ( County).— For embezzle- ment— FRANK GRANGERE, age 25, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, hair ( cut short) and moustache light, woman with legs crossed, short skirt, and dots tattooed right arm, large F and dots left arm ; dress, grey suit and cap to match, white bow tie, lace shoes. Is believed to have served in the army and to have recently been employed on a barge. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lacy, Chatham. LINCOLNSHIRE. 33.— Boston ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 15th ult. HARRIS, age about 28, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., hair ( short) brown, clean shaved, shows his eye teeth very much when laughing ; dress, brown jacket and vest, grey breeches, brown gaiters, stand- up collar, blue striped tie, brown boots, wears a leather watch- guard. Rode a bicycle ; stated he was a native of Oxford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Costar, Boston.^ 34. — Epworth ( Count 1/). — For stealing 15s. 6d. on 26th ult.— A MAN,' age 27, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion freckled, hair and slight moustache ginger, beard of a few days' growth ; dress, black jacket and vest, grey trousers with dark stripes, blue and white muffler, new strong lace boots. Information to Supt. Wilkinson, Epworth. NORFOLK. 35. — Holt ( County). — For stealing a " Triumph " bicycle, black leather gear case, tool bag and bell attached— FRED GUHEL, a German, age 28 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion dark, sullen expression, hair ( curly) and eyes dark ; dress, black cutaway coat, black vest, dark plaid trousers, dark neckerchief, brown soft felt hat, may be wearing brown shoes. LANCASHIRE. 36.— Manchester ( City).— Portrait and description of THOMAS WOOD, whose appre- hension is sought for embezzlement, age about 45 height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., rather stout build, com- plexion very dark, hair ( tinged with grey) and moustache black, walks with swinging gait and turns his toes out ; wearing grey coat and vest, hard hat; late a clerk at the High Court of Justice Office, Manchester. Native of Man- chester ; may be found at public- house singing rooms. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 37.— Rochdale ( Borough).— Woodcut por- trait and description of EDWARD MILLS, whose apprehension is sought for stealing money, age 35, SHROPSHIRE. 39.— Bridgnorth County).— For attempted rape at Danesford, 30th July.— A MAN, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair ( sun- burnt), hair ( short) brown, moustache dark brown, rather long face ; dress, dark mixture jacket and vest, dark trousers, grey plaid cap, grey woollen shirt with light colour band. Is believed to bave served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Walters, Bridgnorth. 40.— Church Stretton ( County).— stealing, 24th till.. at Felhampton, a pair of light lace boots and £ 1 lis.— CHARLES RISSE, a German, age 32 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache grey, bald front of head, eyes grey, arms tattooed, right second finger injured, speaks broken English; dress, rough grey suit, grey cap. May be wearing the stolen boots ; carried a grey jacket and cord trousers. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Barnett, Church Stretton. STAFFORDSHIRE. 41 — Bilston ( County).— For deserting his wife and children, leaving them chargeable to the Wolverhampton Union — EBENEZER FROG GATT, age 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and heavy moustache sandy, eyes ( cast in left) blue ; dress, black morning coat, black vest, slate coloured trousers, or may be wearing a sage green suit, silk or straw hat. A clerk ; native of Bilston. May be found at a music hall. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Walters, Bilston. SUFFOLK ( East). 42.— Woodbridge ( County).— For obtain- ing £ 50 by a worthless cheque, 12th ult., at Felixstowe— WILLIAM BAILEY, alias PETER FORGE and TASKER, age 25 to : 10, height 5 ft, 8 or 9 in., complexion and hair ( inclined to curl) dark, eyes ( supposed) brown, sharp nose and features, clean shaved, front teeth turning brown, 2 marks tattooed on one wrist; dress, dark coat and vest, light trousers, white straw hat. Supposed a native of Hull. He represented himself as a ship- owner, and stated that he required the money to pay a ship's crew at Harwich. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hubbard, Woodbridge. __ SURREY. 43.- Chertsey ( County).— On commitment warrant for non- payment of fine and costs amounting to£ l 3s., imposed for wilful damage— JANE AUGUSTUS, age 46, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair black, eyes grey ; dress, black jacket and hat, and usually a black or dark dress. A hawker; travels the country with a man named GEORGE MAY, alias GEORGE AUGUSTUS and GEORDI. 44.— Chertsey ( County).— On commitment warrant for non - payment of fine and costs amounting to £ 3 3s., imposed for cruelty to a horse— WALTER HAYNES, age 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, moustache and side whiskers light, eyes brown ; dress, brown mixture coat and vest, dirty white cord trousers, grey cap.
