REGULATIONS. tr'All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SOOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 5, Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. S Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of lbs. per portrait, and of 7s. & d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. f. Every aniwvncement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such personiw required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less ran> than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, ami, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to th* Editor lwtice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in iht next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will bo wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. The;, must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, ami accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, 1Veto Scotland Yard, by Postal Order or by Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be a reputed . » n payment, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. R. ANDERSON. Editor. NOTICE. A cattle drover or carman ; may be found in Hertford- shire, Bedfordshire, or Kent. Warrant issued. 2. — V Division. - For obtaining £ 2 15s. Slid, by false pretences— R. GRENFELL, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes dark ; dress, dark grey mixture suit, dark overcoat, black hard felt hat. Warrant issued. 3.— X Division.— For stealing ( bailee a dark pony, set of brass- mounted harness H M thereon, a trolly with piano organ, maker Rossi and Spinnelli, No. 5 on front of trolly. No. 33.'! stamped inside organ— SAMUEL WILLIAMS, age 26, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dailc, hair ( fringe on forehead) dark brown, eyes brown; wears blue knickers, black stockings, velvet vest, white shirt, clotli cap. A native of Wandsworth. Is accompanied by other youths and a girl who dance to the organ. Warrant issued. 1 — Y Division « — For stealing £ 96 16s. Od. — WILLIAM IMPEY, age 38, height 5 ft. 6. J in., complexion, hair and eyes ( small) dark ; dress, black serge suit, black overcoat with velvet collar. A shoemaker ; native of Holloway. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. ~>.— Hungerford County).— For forging and uttering an order for 5s., 17th ult.— — SAULTON ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fair, hair light brown, slight sandy beard ; dress, grey tweed suit, ( trouseiy much worn at bottoms), grey cap, thin boots. Had the appearance of a groom. Stated he had served in the Hampshire Regiment. Sup- posed known at Devizes, and wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Legg, Hungerford. ? (•.— Maidenhead County).— For leaving their families chargeable to the Maidenhead Union — JOHN HODGES, age 42, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, high cheek bones, eyes sunken. A labourer ; native of Maidenhead. May be found on public works. THOMAS PAUFFLEY, age 42, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey ; dress, grey tweed jacket and vest, trousers of similar material, black hard felt hat. A labourer; native of Maidenhead. Warrants issued. A REWARD of £ 2 will be paid in each case by W. Weed, Esq., Clerk to the Guardians of the Maidenhead Union, for such information as will lead to the arrest of the above. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Dorrell, Maidenhead. 7.- Newbury ( County). - - For obtaining money by false pretences— KATE MORTIMER, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion dark ; dress, black alpaca dress, fawn coloured cape, white felt hat, trimmed black. A dressmaker, recently employed at Marlborough. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Robotham, Newbury. 8.— Reading ( Borough).— For larceny ( bailee)— ARTHUR WARWICK, age 33 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 8J in., hair ( bushy) black, whiskers and moustache dark, eyes brown, wears spectacles, peculiar drawl in speech ; dress, dark shabby clothes, soft hat. A professor of music. may be found at common lodging houses. 9— Reading ( Borough).— For stealing, 25t1i ult., a long black rough cloth overcoat, velvet collar, chain tab ( broken), and a round alarum clock ( alarum broken)— A MAN giving the name of EDWARDS, age 55 to GO, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion dark, hair, whiskers and moustache grey, bald on top of head, right hand withered; dress, dirty blue jacket, old trousers and cap. Information to Capt. Henderson, Chief Con- stable, Reading. BRECONSHIRE. in.- Crickhowell ( County). For larceny ( bailee)— JOHN FLYNN, alias JOHNSON and GINGER, age about 40, height 5 ft, 5 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache brown, lame on one leg ; dress, old dark grey coat and vest, cord trousers, dark cap, one boot slit down front. A drover or hawker ; supposed a native of Dowlais, Glam. Occasionally tramps into Yorkshire ; may be accompanied by his son, age about 15. Warrant issued. 11.— Crickhowell County For ing his child— GEORGE PARTON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, turns his feet outwards when walking. A mason. No. under crank 393683, mudguards enamelled black, lined faint green ; and a " Dayton " bicycle, No. 10298 stamped on seat lug, adjustable handle bars, enamelled black, red, wood rims, usual parts plated, Morgan and Wright's oak pattern tyres, 64 gear, American rat- trap" pedals, tool bag stamped " Dayton," no brake, mudguards, or gear case— GERALD DEALTRY, age about 27, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion and hair ( inclined to curl and rather long) dark, clean shaved ; dress, check morning coat, dark blue trousers, stand- up collar, brown tie, black bowler hat, wears gold rim spectacles, a coral horseshoe pin, and 2 rings on left hand. — CLARKE, age 30, height about 6 ft., thin build, stoops, complexion sallow, hair ( long) dark, clean shaved ; dress, dark morning suit, brown cap, wearing gold Albert with three gold medals or tokens attached. REWARD. 14.- Cambridge ( Borough).— For forgery and embezzlement— OSWALD GEORGE SMITH, age 38, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair, whiskers, and moustache very dark, but believed to be now clean shaved or wearing an Imperial, very near sighted and unable to see without strong glasses ; dress, when he left on 24th January last, brown jacket suit, black serge Chesterfield over- coat with velvet collar, black and white tie, brown cloth peak cap, red, white and black silk muffler, lace boots, was wearing a silver watch and gold curb albert. A shoemaker ; native of Cambridge. Lately employed as secretary to a Building Society ; an inveterate smoker ; may be found in the company of betting men. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Chief Constable Holland, Cam- bridge, by whom the above Reward will be paid to any person ( Police included) giving such infor- mation as will lead to the arrest of SMITH. CHESHIRE. 15. middlewich ( County).— For stealing a black cloth jacket anil vest, short blue pilot overcoat, and 30s.— JAMES ALLISON, age 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, hair and slight moustache light; wearing black coat and vest, short blue pilot overcoat, black cloth cap. Has been recently employed on railway extension works. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Large, Middlewich. DENBIGHSHIRE. 16.- Denbigh ( County). — For obtaining goods at Colwyn Bay by a fictitious cheque— S. LAWRENCE, alias FELTON, and FRANK MIDDLETON, age 2S to 30, height about 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown : dress, dark grey check suit, brown cape mackintosh, cap, soft felt or high silk hat, dark tie and pin with pearl surrounded by brilliants. Had in his possession a brown leather portmanteau. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Denbigh. ^ DERBYSHIRE. — Chesterfield ( County).— For stealing, 14th inst., at Staveley, a tie and 16s.— JACK SMITH, age 25, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark, hair very dark, eyes dark brown, slight rash on face near cheek bones, wears a lot of hair in front outside of cap ; dress, black dress coat, blue cloth double breasted vest, open front, pearl buttons, black trousers, dark green tie, grey cap, American boots, pointed toes. A hairdresser; native of Belvedere, Kent. Has been employed at Black- pool, Liverpool, Manchester, Buxton and Chester- field. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Faulkner, Chesterfield. DEVONSHIRE. 18.— Cullompton ( County).— For failing to appear at the Petty Sessions, 5th inst, charged with larceny— THOMAS MARKS, age 42, height 5 ft. | 4J in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scars on head over both eyes and on bridge of nose; dress, dark monkey jacket, moleskin vest and trousers, peak cap, small dark necker- chief. Allen, Brentwood. f f- J GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 22.- Cheltenham ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) 12 sheep — WILLIAM ARTHUR SPENCER, age 43, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, whiskers and mous- tache rather short, eyes blue, recent scar on nose, slouching gait, is an inveterate smoker; dress, grey coat, roan calf- skin vest with flaps over pockets, dark cloth breeches, brown leather gaiters, blue tie with red stripes, blue cap, which he wears over his eyes. A farmer; native of Woodmancote, near Cheltenham. Has with him a new black leather trunk with brown leather straps. Absconded 14th inst.; may be accom- panied by a woman, age 30, short and stout. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. HAMPSHIRE. 23.— Basingstoke \ County).— On commit- ment warrant, having been sentenced to 6 weeks imprisonment for neglecting to maintain his family — FREDERICK SUMPSTER, age 39, height 5 ft, 4 in., complexion fresh, hair dark- brown, eyes hazel, skin discoloured on forehead and under left eye ; dress, brown jacket and cap, moleskin trousers. A native of Tadley, Hants. May be found on public works. Information to Inspector Hale, Basingstoke. 24.— Gosport ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) £ 10 Is. 3d.— ROBERT JOHNSON, age i84, height 5 ft. 7- J- in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, small scar left cheek, walks slovenly ; dress, blue serge suit, 2 shirts ( 1 military, 1 white), black tie, blue skull cap, military socks and boots, or shoes. Supposed a native of Black- burn. Is a deserter from the Royal Artillery. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Silver, Gosport, 25. Portsmouth ( Borough).- For failing to answer to his recognisances at the Quarter Sessions, 7th inst.- HENRY THOMAS SHEMI- NENT, alias EVANS and OWENS, age 22, height 5 ft. 7£ in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes grey. LANCASHIRE. 20 — Barrow- in- Furness ( Borough).— Portrait and description of JAMES ADAM JOHNSTON, whose apprehension is sought for deserting his wife ; age 43, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion rather pale, hair ( thick) and eyes brown, firm walk, bouncing manner, well dressed. A theatrical manager. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Foll, Barrow- in- Furness.
