V, ' All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SOOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. J. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8 Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property will be inserted at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photo- graph or sketch of a stolen article. 5. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name, of such person is required to be inserted and iw warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ca- ae may be. 7. Aniwurwements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and, as far as practicable, they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. • 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any annou ncement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may rerult from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order or by Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. Announcements concerning property lost or persons missing can only be accepted on payme/ U, and the charges for the insertion of the same will be given on application. R. ANDERSON, Editor. SPECIAL NOTICE. The amount of stolen property at present " circu- lated " by the Metropolitan Police has become so inordinately large as to prejudice or destroy the practical value of the records, and it has been found necessary to limit it very considerably. It has been decided, therefore, to discontinue the " cir- culation " in Informationsand Pawnbrokers'Listsof all property stolen in the provinces, unless where there are grounds for believing that the property has found its way to the Metropolis. Chief Con- stables are requested accordingly, when forwarding lists of stolen property to Scotland Yard, to send with them a letter to that effect. And if bills or circulars are received in future, unaccompanied by such a letter, it will be assumed that the " circula- tion " of the particulars they contain is not desired. Blackpool ( Borough).— For stealing ( bailee) a marble clock, 3 sheets, 3 blankets, 2 counterpanes, and a vase — JAMES HAR- GREAVES, age about 55, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., hair and moustache dark ( turning grey), rather high cheek bones, wears glasses ; dress, dark cloth suit and cap. Peterborough ( City).— For obtaining £ 50 by false pretences, 21st ult. — GEORGE SHELLEY ( supposed false), age about 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache light brown, eyes dark ; dress, long black cloth overcoat, blue serge suit, black hard felt hat. Stated he w-.- s a native of Teddington, and that he was employed by Government, He purchased hay and straw to the amount of £ 700, and tendered a worthless cheque on the London and Provincial Bank, Teddington, in payment, and obtained a cheque for £ 50 as commission ( See Cases Nos. 6 and 29, 24th ult.) He took lodgings from 10th to 24th ult., and advertised poultry, & c., for sale, and obtained considerable sums of money from various parts of the country. Warrant issued.
