This man was released from Maryboro' prison on 25th March last, on second order of licence, and went to Armagh, which place he left on 28th of same month, stating that ho was going to Belfast; he did not re- port himself there, although it has been ascertained that he was there for a time, and his present where- abouts are unknown. TRENCH ( name probably false), native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 28th July, 1898, in the town of Carlow, baroDy of Carlow, parish of Carlow, obtained by false pretoncos a sum of £ 10 from ' " ' Mr. Edwin Boake. Merchant, of Tullow- street, Carlow :— Smart military appearance, clean shaved except for reddish moustache; blue or gray eyes, regular nose, fair rather bronzed complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 35 years of age, light sandy hair ; wore a white straw hat, coat, trowsera and vest of dark flannel with white stripe; occupation unknown, said he was Major in the army. Description of FREDERICK THOMPSON, native of London, who stands chaiged with having, on the lst August, 1898, in the barony of Cork, parish of Holy Trinity, broken into the house of William Corcoran, 3, North Main- street, Cork, and stolen therefrom the sum of £ 290 in gold :— Has an impediment in his speech, is a returned American, will endeavour to emigrate, brown eyes, sharp pointed nose, dark complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 35 years of age, dark hair; wore a hard hat, dark serge coat and vest; is a painter. Description of DENIS CRONIN, native of Gloun- thane, near Mallow, who stands charged with having, on the 4th August, 1898, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Anne's, Shandon, unlawfully and felon- iously stolen and made away with five pigs, the pro- perty of his master, Cornelius Smyth, ot Glounthane, such pigs being value for about £ 7 :— High cheek bones, ( ront teeth overlapping ; small dark eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, square face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 28 years of age, dark hair; wore a gray tweed cap, coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of a MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 18th July, 1898, in the barony of Cork, parish of Currykippane, Btolen three heifers ( since recovered), value about £ 28, the pro- perty of Timothy Connors, of Clogheen, and sold the cattle at Donoughmore fair, on 19th July, 1898, for £ 22:— Thin hardy appearance, dark complexion, i slight make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 40 years j of age ; wore a dark coat and trowsers, old and worn ; ' looked like a blacksmith or shoemaker. Description of a MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, on the night of 20th July, 1898, in tLe barony of Muskerry East, parish of Ahabul- logue, stolen an ass'd cart, the property of Daniel Dennehy, from his yard at Ahavrin, Coachford :— Sandy complexion, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, about 60 years of age, sandy turning gray hair, sandy side whiskers turning gray, chin shaven ; wore a black coat and trowsers; is a tinker or rag- gatherer. Particulars relative to Convict WILLIAM DOHERTY, otherwise MICHAEL FARRELL, otherwise MICHAEL FARNAN, otherwise JAMES HAMILTON, C. 791, convicted at Letterkenny, county Donegal, at Letterkenny Quarter Sessions, on 19th October, 1994, for larceny and previous con- viction, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude:— Present age 61 years ; can read and write ; is a Roman Catholic ; widower; has twc children; is a labourer; prison trade labourer; born at Strabane; resided before conviction at Lifford, county Donegal; nis friends reside at Glenties, county Donegal; gray hair, gray eyes, brown eyebrows, cocked nose, regular mouth, sallow complexion, round visage, proportionate make, 5 feet 7 inches high, small cocked nose, cut- mark centre of forehead, flat ankles, sma'l lump on forehead and left cheek, and large burn- mark on right side. This man was released from Maryborough Prison on 19th July last, and went to reside at Moville, county Donegal, but he left there on the 14th instant, without notifying the Police, and his present whereabouts are not known; during the time he was at Moville, he stopped at a lodging- house without being employed at any work. If arrested he should be dealt with under 14 and 35 Vic., s. 5, c. 112, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 22nd August, 1898. ( 624. b. C.) Fermanagh. Description of JOHN NOLAN ( mother's surname Murphy), native of Carn, who stands charged with having, on the 5th day of August, 1898, in the barony of Mahcrastephana, parish of Aughlurcher, seriously assaulted one William Baird, by stabbing him with a knife in the breast:— Sunburnt, worn appearance, ^ saks with a slight American accent, blue eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 34 years of age, brown hair; wore a hard hat, black coat, tweed trowsefs, black vest; is a labourer. Description of Dr. THOMAS JENKENS, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 11th day of July, > 898, at Monasterevan, in the barony of Oflaly West, parish of ft? onasterevan, obtained a sum of £ 2 by false pretences, from Rev. Hugh M'Keag, of 67, Heytesbury- street, Dublin, by wiring to him in the name of Mr. T. H. Seale, and signing receipt for same in name of T. H. Seale :— Had right wrist bandaged as result of a bicycle accident, brown eyes, regular no le, florid ( omplexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 33 years of age, brown hair ; wore a white chip hat with red band, brown coat, brown knicker trowsers, brown vest; is supposed to belong to a bogus firm of Peat Fuel Manufacturers. Name is supposed 11 be fictitious. Speaks fluently, has a red card case in his possession on which is written inside " Please admit Thomas Jenkins, royal Hospital, * dintrurgh." Warrant issued. Particulars relative to oonvict PATRICK HUSSEY, otherwise KELLY, otherwise BRADY, otherwise WILSON, otherwise MURPHY, otherwise RYAN, C. 789, convicted at Cavan Quarter Sessions on 16th October, 1894, for hoase- breafeing, larceny, an-* former conviction, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude: 47 years of age on conviction ; can read and write; is a Presbyterian; single; is a tailor; prison trade tailor ; born at Limerick, resided before conviction at Bailieboro; light brown hair turning gray, brown eyes, light brown eyebrows, regular nose, medium mouth, pale complexion, oval visage, med'um make, 5 feet £ inches high, hollow right cheek near chin, right forefinger has bepn broken, varicose veins both legs, getting bald on top of head. This man was released from Mountjoy Prison on the 29th July, 1898, and went to Dundalk. He left that pi ice without reporting his departure on the 2nd August, leaving behind hie copy of licence. His present whereabouts are unknown. IT arrested he should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vic, s. 5, c. 112, as amended by Penal Servitude Act of 1891. 1st Septemb « r, 1898. ( 33338 c 72200). Description of PATRICK RICE ( mother's surname Kane), native of Fathom Upper, county Armagh, who stands charged with having, on the night of 10th A ngust, 1898, in the barony of Lower Dundalk, parish of Carlingford, stabbed Peter Cull, on right temple, with a pcnknile:— Grey eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a black aoat, bluish tweed trowsers, black vest t is a labourer. FRENCH, alias Major STIRLING, 16th Lancers, who stands charged with having, on the 30th July, 1898, in the barony of Upper Dundalk, parish of Dundalk, obtained from the National Bank £ T0, by presenting a worthless cheque signed " E. T. French, Major," and falsely representing himself aB belonging to the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons: — Blue or gray eyes, long nose, sandy complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, about 40 years of age, fair hair; wore a straw hat, dark coat, trowsers and vest, all one pattern and having a white thread running down it at intervals, and yellow boots; military appearance ard good address ; sp ke with an English accent. Description of JAMES BOURNES, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 21st August, 1898, in the barony of Upper Slane, parish of Stackallen, stolen one suit of clothes, the property of Lieutenant Henry Osborne, from the Militia Camp, at Stackallen:— Slightly pockpitted, has stoppage in speech, heavy brown moustache, hazel eyes, fresh complexion, shaved face, medium make, 5 feet inches high, about 30 years of age, brown hair; wore a gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; is a groom and militiaman Suoposed to be wearing the clothes of the foregoing description; value for about £ 2, Warrant issued. Description of EMILY KERR, native of Glenda- vagb, county Tyrone, who, on the 29th July, 1898, in the barony of Trough, parish of Donagh, left the house of her employer, John Ferguson, and has not since been heard of, and it is feared she may have met with foul play:— Gray or blue eyes, regular nose, sandy com- plexion, long face, medium make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 16 years of age, red hair; wore a sailor hat ( straw) with black band, low shoes, black stockings, and a gray dress ; is a servant. Description of TIMOTHY BEIRNE, ( mother's surname Shanley), native of Derrylow, who stands charged with having, on the 9th day of May, 1898, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Killukin, assaulted Patrick Feely, by throwing a piece of iron which struck Feely on the head, Beirne was on bail, but failed to appear at Croghan Petty Sessions, on 18th July, 1898, at the hearing of the case :— Cut- mark on top of fore- head caused by a blow received 9th May, 1898, grey eyes, 1 cocked nose, fresh complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 yews of age ; wore a grey tweed cap, blue serge trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. Description of TWO MEN, names and native places unknown, who Stand charged with having, on the £ 0th day of August, 1898, in the barony of eliogarty, parish of Holycross, robbed one Thomas Bannon, of the sum of five shillings ( 5s.):— 1. Mark of an old cut, about two inches long, on left cheek, fair complexion small thin face, slight make, 5 feet 9 inches high, about 20 years of age, light sandy hair ; wore a gray cap, gray sack coat, gray trowsers and vest, wor6 bad boots. 2. Sunken jaws, dark swarthy completion, long thin faoe, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark bair ; wore a soft black hat, Ion ® black coat, black trowsers and vest, coat much worn, and torn at elbows and shoulders, wore bad boots. warrants issued. Description of MATTHEW GREENE, who is charged with having, on 18th August, 1898, feloniously stolen the sum of £ 8 3s. 3d. and a gold watch, property of his employer, Matthew Honan. at 17, Harcourt- road, Dublin :— He is 13 or 14 years of age, medium size for age, stout make, wore gray tweed suit, trowsers knicker- make, tweed cap, check shirt, no collar, canvas sho? s ; he is a native of county Clare. Description of JAMES REILLY, who stands charged with having, on 21st June and 5th July last, wilfully and with intent to defraud, falsified certain accounts on the delivery sheets of the Central Railway Company, and thereby fraudulently appropriating the sum of 10s. Reilly was a carter in the employment of Messrs. Wallis, Carriers, Bachelors'- walk, who are contractors with said Railway Company for the delivery of goods, an" the collection of the respective amounts due thereon :— He is about 45 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark complexion, bronzed face, wears all his beard which is dark, dressed in dark clothes and brown hat; he is said to have a couple of acres of land and a house situated about two miles from the Hill of Tara, county Meath, which he is anxious to dispose of. C ) Description of JAMES WARD, who stands charged with having embezzled the sum of 13s. 6d. on 1st June last, which he received at Kingstown for and on account of his employer, Mr. George Price, who trades as " Frederick Vodrey," Delph and China Merchant, 23, Moore- street, Dublin :— He is about 32 years of age. about 6 feet high, stout make, round red face, thick lips, fair hair, slight sandy moufttache, rest of face shaved; dressed in a brown tweed suit, reefer jacket, black jerry hat; may be wearing a short dust coat. This man left here on 13th inst. and is supposed to have gone to Aberdeen ; he had previously been employed in a shipbuilding yard in Glasgow painting ships, and may now seek some similar work. Description of MARY KELLY who stands charged with having, on 25th day of July, 1898, at Berkeley- road, City of Dublin, wilfully abandoned her male infant, aged nine days, in a manner likely to cause it injury to its health :— She is about 26 or 28 years of age, tall and thin, dark hair and complexion, dressed in black cloth tight- fitting jacket, dark green skirt, dark woollen wrapper, white sailor hat and black band. She is alleged to be a native of Gormanstown, county Meath, and she stated she knew the town of Danker well. She may be found at Drogheda, Balbriggao, Skerries, or some of the coast towns about there. Warrant is in the hands of Superintendent Lanktree. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE- AND- CRY, SEPTEMBER 6, 1898. cloth jacket suit, white front with collar attached, dark tie, and brown lacing boots; had in his posses- sion a silver Geneva watch, a silver Albert chain, curb pattern, and a silver badge as pendant. During the past two years accused was an assistant in a pawnbroking office at Barrhead, and resided with John Mallon, his step- father, at 140, Gallogate- street, Glasgow. He committed the theft during the tem- porary absence of the manager, and immediately after- wards absconded. He has been six years in the pawn- broking business, and may seek similar employment. Police officers are requested to have search and enquiry made for accused at pawnbroking establish- ments, salesrooms, and other likely places, where he may seek employment, at shipping offices ( as he may endeavour to lease the country), and, if found, arrest or should any trace, however slight, be obtained, to communicate with CHAS. ANIMALS sTOLEN Dublin Description of a heifer, the property of Christopher Dunne, which was stolen from the lands of Kilbarrack Upper, parish of Kilbarrack, barony of Coolock, between Wednesday evening the 27th and 8 a. m. on 29th July, 1898:— Red and white colour, large size, in good condition, and value for £ 13, crumpled horns, lame in hind leg from the effect of a crack in the heel, branded with figure 1 or 2 on one horn. Description of two heifers, the property of Mary Collins, of Kilbarrack Lower, which were stolen from the lands of Kilbarrack Lower, parish of Kilbarrack, barony of Coolock, on the night of the 27th, or morning of the 28th July, 1898:— No. 1. Description of an ass, the property of James Mooney, which it is alleged was stolen from the lands of Skerry, parish of Rosenallis, barony of Tinnahinch, on the night of the 19th August, or morning of the 20th August, 1898, viz:— A low white gelding ass, strong appearance, long tail, short thick snout, very light in colour, and heavy body, in good condition, one hind shoe off, about 8 or 9 years' old, and value for about £ 2 ; may have old mark of straddle on off side of back.
