All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them, should be wldressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons vihose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enab e action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particu'ars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In nil cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portra its of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. ' 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a per ton, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required < to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property mu> t be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. A nnouncemtnls of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, ar. d are alphabetically arranged by counties. v 9. The force which causes particulars concerning ddinqnents or sto'en property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their appreh ension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly re sponsible for any proceedings which may result from such jmblicaton. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received notlalerthan noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be dearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond < t- Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament st., Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. SPECIAL NOTICE. IDENTIFICATION OF PRISONERS. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identifica- tion by the Metropolitan Police the Photo- graphs and descriptive forms of Persons in • custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door; stealing bale of silk, van unattended, & c., & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges liave recently comjjlained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— E Division.— For appropriating, in Feb- ruary last, £ 2,000 entrusted to him for investment — JAMES HENRY IRVINE CRUIKSHANK, age about 40, height 5 ft. GJ or 7 in., complexion sallow, hair ( rather bald on top) and eyes dark, very sharp and decisive in manner and speech, keeps his head down when walking ; well- dressed. Frequents first- class hotels, and cultivates the acquaintance of ladies who are known to be wealthy. Warrant issued. 2. — F Division.— For obtaining, by fraud, 4 rose diamond buttons ( 2 with ruby borders, 2 with sapphire borders), about size of a threepenny piece; 1 carved turquoise and diamond cluster pin, turquoise in centre; 1 gold curb' pattern albert chain; 1 gold fluted pencil- case, for 3 pencils— COUNT ALEX SANTZEFF, alias COMTE DE BONNERVAL, PRINCE DE BEAUMONT, BARON JEDIHART, COMTE HENRY DE LANCY, and HENRY SMIDT, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion sallow, hair, moustache and eyes dark; speaks with foreign accent; dress, black morning coat and vest, light grey trousers, high silk hat, of smart appear- ance. He orders jewellery to be sent to an hotel, where he is staying, and gives worthless coupons in payment. Warrant issued. 3.— J Division.— For stealing £ 60— FREDE- RICK OLIVER, age 19, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion and hair dark, eyes dark brown; dress, dark blue serge jacket suit, black soft felt hat, brown boots. Native of Loughton, Essex. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 4.— J Division.— For bigamv— JESSE RAIN, alias FRED WEBSTER, age 36, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh ( very red face), hair ( curly) and eyes dark ; dress, navy- blue suit. A theatrical agent ; may be found at seaside resorts. A native of Preston, Lancashire. 5.— K Division.— For stealing, 20th April last, a diamond frame pneumatic bicycle, " Dunlop " tyres, maker, " Smith and Son, Saltley, Birmingham," on head— OSWALD RHYS, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue ; dress, black cut- away coat and vest, dark grey trousers, black hard felt hat. A newspaper reporter; supposed a native of Breconshire. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. £ 2 2s. REWARD. 6.— Reading ( Borough).— For deserting his wife and children, leaving them chargeable to the Reading Union— WILLIAM RICHARD GREEN, age 33, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair and mous- tache brown, eyes blue, scar over right eye, under right knee and left leg; dress, dark jacket and vest, grey striped trousers, light check cap, lace boots. A painter. Formerly belonged to the Army Transport Corps, and may endeavour to re- enlist. The above reward will be paid by the Clerk to the Guardians of the Reading Union for such information as will lead to the arrest of Green. Warrant issued. 7.— Reading ( Borough).— For stealing 8s., 22nd ult. FITZGERALD, age 38 to .40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair and slight mous- tache light, eyes blue, rather large head; dress, blue serge suit, hard felt hat with high crown, brown boots. Had in his possession silk handkerchiefs mirked" C." Wears two rings ( 1 a half- hoop, the other with black stone). Stated he was an electrical engineer on the G. W. R. Warrant issued. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 8.— Slough ( County).— For stealing, 29th ult., a lady's gold geneva watch, No. 104307, and a lady's 9- carat gold ring, set 4 pearls and 3 corals ( 2 corals deficient)— A MAN, age about 28, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion fair, high forehead and cheek bones, hair and moustache light; dress rough blue serge jacket and vest, dark grey trousers, black- and- white check tie, black hard hat, brown lace shoes; was wearing 2 silver chains ( one has a silver star, the other a silver match- box, attached), also wore a gold ring, set dark stone on little finger left hand. Stated he was an Engineer on the Great Western Railway. Information to Supt. Sutton, Slough. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 9.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing, 28th ult, a " Humber" " Model C." lady's bicycle, No. 21430, " Dunlop- Welch " covers on back wheel, " Bee- ston " cover on front wheel, " Brooks' B85 " saddle— A woman, who gave the name of MISS SMITH, age about 23, height 5 ft. 3 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair brown; dress, black dress, sailor hat, brown shoes. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Holland, Cam- bridge. CARNARVONSHIRE. 10.— Bangor ( County).— Woodcut portrait and description of ROBERT HUGHES, whose apprehen- sion is sought for forging a cheque for £ 400, age 42, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion pale, hair ( turning grey) and short stiff moustache dark, walks erect with short quick steps; dress, fawn or slate coloured suit-, soft black hat. Late Lloyd's shipping agent at Bangor, 2 of which place ho is a native leave the country. May endeavour to 4 in., very stout, complexion clear and bright, hair ( bald on top) grev, moustache and imperial white, eyes brown. Expiree FREDERICK SMITH, alias WILLIAMS and THOMPSON, Office No. 418S6, age 33, height 5 ft, G in., complexion dark Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Inspector Rowland, Bangor. CHESHIRE. 11.— Middlewich ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) a silver English lever watch, No. 46874, maker " George Willis, Northwich," on dial— HARRY ROBINSON ( late of Travellers' Rest, Northwich), age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 7 or S in., complexion sallow, hair ( turning grey), whiskers and moustache dark brown ; dress, long brown overcoat, dark suit, hard felt hat, lace boots. A jobbing watch and clock cleaner; car- ries a black hand- bag. Warrant issued. 12.— Middlewich ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) household linen, etc.— JANE ROBINSON, alias GOLDING, age 45 to 50, height 4 ft. 11 in., com- plexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) dark brown, eyes brown, small and rather sharp- pointed nose; dress, brown plaid shawl, print dress, black bonnet, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Large, Middlewich. DEVONSHIRE. 13.— Exeter ( County).— For obtaining £ 135 by a forged cheque— E. W. MARTINUCCI, alias NYE, age about 23, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean- shaved, eyes hazel, rather round- shouldered and stoops, 3 teeth only in upper jaw, sharp prominent nose, which he is in the habit of pinching when speaking, thin lips ( upper rather prominent); may be wearing light Norfolk jackct, white flannel trousers nnd straw hat with coloured band. Had a brown leather portmanteau, containing clothing. A native of London. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable of Devon, Exeter. DURHAM. 14.— Sunderland ( Borough).— For burglary, 1st March last, and stealing £ 3,554 in gold and Bank of England notes ( See Case No. 78, 19th March last)— ( sallow), hair dark brown, small moustache black ( which may now be shaved off), beard shaven, eyes brown, cut scar on back of head about inches long, which he tries to hide with his hair. Both dress well. They may endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Huntley, Sunder- land. ESSEX. 15.— Chelmsford ( County).— For stealing a lady's gold geneva watch, white dial, " Muriel" thereon; 1 lady's 18- carat gold curb chain, a spade guinea dated 1793 attached, and a gold locket ( much worn) containing a gentleman's photograph— TWO MEN. 1st, age about 25, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fair, hair inclined to sandy ; dress, dark check jacket and vest, brown trousers, light cord cap, brown canvas shoes. 2nd, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 4 in., long face, hair and eyes dark ; dress, brown jacket and vest, mixture trousers, dark cloth cap, lace boots. They carry a small box with strap attached, and hawk mock jewellery. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable Chelmsford. 16.— Grays ( County).— For stealing, 4th ult., 1 brown leather bag; 1 set of gold studs; 1 pair silver oblong sleeve links; 1 silver albert, snake pattern, with small seal attached; 1 silver- mounted cherry- wood walking stick ; 1 silk handkerchief ; 1 pair kid gloves ; 1 black peak cap ; and £ 3— MARK ERNEST BURROUGHS, late of 36, Hornby Road, Camberwell, S. E., age about 26, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion pale, broad flat face, rather flat nose, hair and thin moustache black, upper lip parted from a wound, similar to a hare lip ; dress ( when last seen), light check jacket suit, white turn- down collar, white silk tie, white straw hat, low shoes. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. HAMPSHIRE. 17. — Southampton ( Borough).— For rape— ALFRED EDMUND LAW, age 34, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes blue, brown scar on right knee; a painter. Has served in the Royal Engineers, and is now in the Army Reserve. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southampton. Expiree WILLIAM HENRY RICHARDSON, alias RICHARDS, Office No. 45711, age 61, height 5 ft. HEREFORDSHIRE. 18.— Ross ( County).— For stealing, 10th ult., at Gar way, a lady's 18- carat gold watch COOKE. age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fair, hair ( turning grey) light brown; dress, black coat and vest, light trousers, cloth cap. A tramping watch and clock cleaner; wearsi an apron, and carries a small black bag, containing tools. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cope, Ross. suit, tight- fitting trousers, soft felt hat, brown leather gttiters. A cattle dealer of llothfield. Is fond of shooting. Frequents fairs and markets. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bailey, Asliford. 20.— Tonbridge [( County).— For breaking out of Union Workhouse, at Tonbridge, 28th ult., and steal- ing 1 brown tweed cloth suit; 1 white cord suit; 1 black hard felt hat; 1 pair1 nailed boots ; 1 pair leather slippers ; 1 blue neckerchief, marked " T. U. W." ; 2 clasp knives ; 1 pair plyers; 1 pair scissors, used for bird- stuffing; 1 pawnticket, for tools pledged at " Wagner's, Tunbridge Wells," and 18s.— SAMUEL TERRY, age 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, very thin face, hair and moustache ( stubby) dark, suffers much from indigestion, and shows symptoms of same. Supposed wearing some of the stolen cloth- ing. May bg found in a Union Infirmary or Hos- pital. Is believed to be a native of Pembury, Kent. Information to Supt. Bartlett, Tonbridge. 21.— West Mailing ( County).— For stealing, 5th ult., at Wateringbury, 3 waggon sheets ( recovered)—- WILLIAM WATTS," age 24,' height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in. r slight build, complexion very dark, small moustache dark; dress, dark blue coat and vest, brown cloth, trousers, brown boots, black hard felt hat. A sail- maker. Has the appearance of a Jew. Was seen, 26th ult., going in the direction of Tonbridge, carry- ing a white kit- bag. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Iloare, West Mailing. KENT. 19.— Ashford ( County).— For stealing 20 sheep ( re- covered)— SIDNEY LONG, age 25 to 27, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair slight moustache and eyes dark, knock- kneed, turns his right foot out when walking; dress, light tweed LANCASHIRE. 22.— Rochdale ( Borough).— For stealing, 16th- ult., 1 fawn- coloured cloth costume, with velvet collar and cuffs; 1 green, red and yellow striped flan- nelette chemise; 1 pair black woollen stockings; 1 grey woollen skirt— MARY ALICE MARSH, age 3S to 40, height about 5 ft. 5 in., sunburnt and freckled, hair brown, eyes blue, several false teeth in upper jaw; dress, black dress, black three- quarter vicuna jacket, round black straw hat trimmed narrow white ribbon. Supposed a native of Leeds. 23.— Rochdale ( Borough). — For larceny—- THOMAS RODDY, age 42, height 5 ft. in., com- plexion fresh, hair, moustache and imperial ( turning grey) brown, eyes grey. Of military appearance. A labourer ; native of Rochdale. 24.— Rochda! e( Borough)— For larceny— J AM ES DEVANEY, age 53, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, mole left shoulder, anchor tattooed between left thumb and forefinger,, scar back of neck. LEICESTERSHIRE. 25.— Melton Mowbray ( County)— For embezzling £ 4 4s. 8d.— HARRY MANNING, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion pale, hair and mous- tache brown, lame; is addicted to drink; dress, old grey tweed suit, light cloth cap, low shoes. A baker ; supposed native of Grantham. May be found in Yorkshire. Absconded 23rd ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bott, Melton Mowbray. MIDLOTHIAN. 26.— Edinburgh ( County).— For fraudulently ob- taining a pneumatic safety bicycle, diamond frame, makers. " Hood and Simpson, Bannyrigg," figure of two men riding cycles, and name of machine, " Rhy- mer," stamped on front of frame, dent on under bar. about 2 in. from pedals, wheels 30 and 28 in. in diameter, wooden rims, painted yellow, tangent spokes, tied with brass wire spokes and frame black enamelled, wheels fitted with " Dunlop" special plain, road- racing detachable tyres, " H. B. M." stamped on hub, barrels of wheels, rat- trap pedals, with toeclips, " B. S. A." stamped on pedals. Silver plated bent- handlebar, cork handles, with white tips, " Brook's " saddle, " BIO" stamped thereon, " D" tubing, back fork oval tubing, frame 1895 make, but has been fitted up with 1897 improvements, had no brake, bell or lamp— HERBERT HARRIS, an Englishman, age 20, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion pale, hair light or sandy, prominent nose, which is slightly bent to the left; dress, slate- coloured tweed jacket and vest, blue serge trousers, black leather shoes, collar and tie. Said he was in the employment of the Patent Quad- rant Cycle Company, Limited, Birmingham, about. 2 years ago. Warrant issued. GEORGE JACK, a miner, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, long face, hair and slight moustache light, large nose; dress, black corded jacket, light tweed trousers, black felt hat. A native of East Lothian. Has friends at Nelson, Lancashire; Scotswood, near Newcastle; House- O- Muir, East Lothian, and Keeley, Fifesliire. Warrant issued. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 29.— Abergavenny ( County).— For stealing a • bicycle ( recovered)— OSWALD RHYS, age 24, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair ( curly) very- light ; wearing blue serge suit and brown boots. A • solicitor's clerk. Supposed previously convicted. Has friends at Sennybridge, Brecon. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Davies, Abergavenny. NORFOLK. 30.— Walsingham ( County).—- For embezzlement — ALBERT WILLIAM MYHILL, late of Fakenham, age 34, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion florid, hair and slight moustache brown, eyes grey, large project- ing upper teeth ; dress, black rib ; uit, black hard hat with mourning band. A shoemaker ; but has recently been employed as a milkman; he has also been an in- surance agent. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Harvey, Walsingham. SURREY. 31.— Guildford ( County).— Forlarceny— JAMES CHARLES MARSHALL, age 20, height 5 ft. 3A in., complexion fresh, hair auburn, eyes hazel, scar bridge of nose, moles back of left calf, brown mark small of back. A private of the 2nd Royal West Surrey Regi- ment, from which he deserted on 20th ult. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Page, Guild- ford. SUSSEX ( EAST). 32.— Hay ward's Heath ( County).— Forobtaining 17th ult., £ 10, by forged cheque— GEINI MARTIN UCCI, late of Brighton, age about 22, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion florid, hair and slight moustache light brown, beard about a week's growth, eyes hazel; of good address; dress, dark tweed jacket, light trou- sers and vest, light cloth peak cap, brown leather shoes. Stevens, Lewes. 34.— Hastings ( Borough).— For stealing, 21st ult., 1 silver neck- chain, curb pattern, fastens with a split ring; 1 silver watch- chain, square pattern, joined with small links, with three charms attached, viz. : 1 small book, made of Torquay marble ; a minia- ture elephant, and a silver German coin ; 1 lady's gold ring, with box for hair; I jet and gilt bead necklet; 1 lady's gold watch, open- face, gold dial, black hands and figures, engine- turned cases, round epace in ccntrc for initials, fixed in a green wristlet, which fastens with a buckle; 1 long gold brooch, with flowers thereon, and pearl set in centre, in a maroon- coloured square case, lined red plush; 1 small gold safety- pin brooch, set with pearls ; 1 long chased gold brooch; 1 lady's silver geneva watch, engine- turned cases, with shield in centre, open- face, white dial, black hands and figures, piece of paper with " Taylor, Kingsbridge," thereon, inside case; 1 lady's gold ring, set two diamonds and three sapphires; 1 gipsy ring, buckle pattern, set four turquoise— A MAN, age 27 to 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache light; dress, dark brown mixture suit, white straw hat with blue band. A labourer ; native of Hove. A native of Rhymney, Mon. ; was last seen at Polmont, Stirlingshire, on the 18th ult. He is no doubt suffering from mental depression, and it is feared that some ill has befallen him.
