All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE EDITOE OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. ' 2. Tart iculars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought trill le inserted in one issue of the FOLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property to ill be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost o/ 15 » . per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not lessr"' ik than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to beinserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or nvaloaous thereto. A^ TXOXSTS. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and m t alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted im the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings to huh may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwaraed so as to be received not Inter than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either ai the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond 8f Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who trill furnish the rates on application. 14. SPECIAL NOTICE. An inventor has patented a composition for taking casts of footprints in any soft ground, and Government has acquired the right to use this invention in any part of the United Kingdom. It is anticipated that it will prove of value occasionally in criminal cases, especially in rural districts, and any Police Force that wishes to have particulars of it, is invited to apply to the Home Office confidentially for that purpose. HARMAN, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and small side- whiskers dark; dress, black frock coat, high silk hat, appearance and manner of a gent'eman of education. He represented himself to bo tli3 brotter of T. B. Hariran, of Sindlesbam House, Wokingham, and wrote a letter purporting to come from that address. Warrant issued. 2.— V Division.— For deserting his wife and family— ROBERT BENTLEY, age 44, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair, whiskers, and moustache brown, slightly bow- legged. May be accompanied by a woman, age 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, hair and eyes ( full) dark. He travels in the West of Eogland and Midlands as an agent for the sale of Bibles, sewing machines, & c. Warrant issued. BRYANT, late of 75, Gaisford- street, Camden- rcad, N., age 27, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion pale, hair, moustache ( rather heavy), and eyes black, lips slightly parted, stoops, walks with a springing gait; is a good orator and of good address; dress, b'ack frcck coat and vest, datk trousers, black alpine hat. BERKSHIRE. 4.— Reading ( Borough). — For obtaining 10s. by false pretences— ROBERT HENRY WEBB, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, thin face, hair dark brown, moustacho light ( inclined to sandy) ; drees, light jacket and vest, dark trousers, grey cap, nailed boots. A baker; known at Windsor and Maidenhead, where he may seek employmeat. Left Reading 13th inst. Warrant issued. 5.— Reading ( Borough).— For stealing 2 pairs full size dark brown cord trousers ; 2 boys' mixed tweed knicker suits; 2 men's bluetto jackets; 2 pairs men's red drab pants ( 1 with satin bands, P. S. M. o/ d in pencil on material, the other marked M o/ o) ; 1 pair men's natural colour merino pants— A woman, who gave the name of MRS. TAYLOR, age 30 to 3*, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, oval face, hair dark; dress, dark clothep, black sailor hat, dark veil; of smart appearance and [ good address. Had with her a perambulator with a child. She calls at shops aud obtains goods on approval, giving a false address. Warrant issued. 6. — Reading ( Borough,). — For bnrglary and assault on a police constable— A MAN, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, full face, hair and moustache dark Vown ; dress, daik browD coat end vest, light cord trousers, brown cloth cap. Information to Head Constable Tewsley, Eeiding. 7. — Windsor ( Borough). — For stealing, 4th inst., 1 lady's sifety bicycle, Woodley's pneumatij tyres, Gents saddle, tangent spokes, ba1! bjarings throughout, black enamelled frame, V- shaps, usual parts plated, cork handles, rubber pedals, mud- gnards, cord dress guard, and wire guard over chain— A man who gave the name of G. R. BIRD, age about 27, height 5 ft. 5 or 0 in., complexion fair, hair light; drass, grey tweed suit, black bard felt hat. Warrant issued. 16. — Poole County). — For embezzlement — WILLIAM GEORGE BARTLETT, age about 22, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair very dark, moustache and eyes dark, cut marks on thumb; dresB ( usually), bluo ribbed serge coat and vest, dark trousers, black hard felt hat. A butcher's assistant; native of Henstridge, Somerset. Ab- sconded 21st ult. Warrant issued. May be found making enquiriej of secretaries of Jewish benevolent societies. 20.— Cardiff ( Borough). — For stealing, on or about 12th ult., 3 heifers ( recovered)— A MAN, oge 48 to 50, height about 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion sallow, hair dark brown, clean fhaved; wore a <? trk suit. Appearance of a groom or horse- dealer. Stated bis name was BLAKE, and that he was a fanner, of Tully. May be found at fairs. May have in his possession an English silver lever walcb, No. 10987. Is a professor of music; drets, usually, grey suit, black bowler hat. May be found among betting men. Warrant issued. Information to Capt. Colquhonn, Chief Constable, Swansea. Warrant withdrawn. sought for stealing £ 178— Age 24, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown, eyesbi- own; dress, dark suit, black haid felt hat, light lace boots. Was accompanied by another man, shorter than himself, aud who has a deep scar on left side of face. They carry bags, and go from house to house, ostensibly for the purpose of collect- ing r^ gs and bones. 26.— Portsmouth ( Borouqh).— Yor stealing £ 7, 2nd inst.— HENRICH ROSENKRANZER, age 27 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., com- plexion dark, broad features, moustache brown; dress, fawn colour overcoat, dark velvet collar, black morning coat, grey trousers, black hard felt hat, brown shoes, carried & small dark walking stick. A German, speaks good English. A gardener, and may seek employment as such. Warrant issued. Informatian to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. 27.— Southampton ( Borough).— Forembezzle- ment— WILLIAM ADAMS, age 22, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., small features, hair ( slightly bald) very light, speaks indistinctly; dress, dark suit, black hard felt hat. A journeyman baker. Absconded 28th ult. Had with him a small yellow wooden box. Warrant issued. 28.— Southampton ( Borough).— For embezzle- ment— W. J. COX, age 35 to 40, height 6 ft. 1 or 2 in., very slight build, complexion pale, hair and moustache dark brown; respectibly dressed. A brewer's traveller. Warrant issued. HAMPSHIRE. 23— Romsey ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— GEORGE HICKS ( supposed false), age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., rather stout build, complexion dark, hair dark brown, heavy dark moustache, large grey eyes, 2 upper teeth deficient, slightly bow- legged, scars back of left hand which cause the fiDgers to be cramped; dress, dark jacket and vest, light trousers, cloth cap, brown leather boots. He represented himself as an insurance agent for horses ( see Case No. 71, 8th inst.). Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooper, Romsey. 24.— Portsmouth ( Borough) .— For embezzling £ 4 5s. 0d., 1st inst.— HENRY MERCER, age about 34, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown; dress, grey check suit, or may be wearing black double- breasted melton jacket with silk facings, and hard felt hat; of smart appearance. A traveller. Absconded 4th inst. Warrant issued. HEREFORDSHIRE, 29.— Ledbury ( County).— For stealing a pair of black Oxford cloth trousers, at Wellington Heath, on 10th nit.— Expiree THOMAS TATTERSALL, alias JOHN THOMAS TATTERSALL, and OLIVER HOLDER, Office No 919- 6 ( see Gazette, 3rd ult., Case No. 58, and 17th ult., Case No. 14), age 40, height 5 ft. 6| in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, lost front teeth, walks lame right leg, wears an elastic band on right thigh, sailor with right hand extended on right forearm, scar on left eyebrow, left side of neck, and under left ear, scald scars on chest; dressed in dark plaid stable jacket, black Oxford cloth trousers, blaik hard hat, long dark greatcoat with cape, and has a brown cap. He represents himself as being attached to the Ordnance Survey, and as a telegraph inspector, engages men to work for him, obtains board and lodging for himself, borrows money to p& y the car- riage on his luggage, supposed to be at the nearest railway station, steals what he can, and absconds j was last heard of on 6tb inst., at Wellington, Salop, where he represented himself as a railway offioial, and carried a pair of ticket nippers; supposed to be now in North or South Wales. TOM SHARPE, alias WILLIAM DAWSON, BOWLES, " WHIPCORD TOMMY," and " BALL OF TWINE," age 54, height 5 ft. 11 in, com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, mole on front of left shoulder and right breast, both jaws fractured. A companion of race- course thieves, and a well - known welsher. Was convicted at Rugby, on 4th May, 1877; 30th March, 1886, and 28th March, 1893, of travelling on railway without a tisket, and was sentenced to 6 weeks imprisonment at Epsom, 23rd April, 1894, for welching.
