All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE EDITOB OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension it sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost oflSt. per portrait, and of 7s. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense cf engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to i, e inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed hy the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7 Announccmrn's concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Immet'frw or n" n /' Wi.' 3. 5. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and an alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to le inserted ta the PoLICC GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transm t to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, « cill be wholly responsible for any proceedings whiih may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwaraed so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not laterthan Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper oniy, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a . covering letter. . . 12. All payments must be in advance, either rt the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. THE EDITOR requests that Chief Officers of Police, when forwarding for identifica- tion by the Metropolitan Police the Photo- graphs and descriptive forms of Persons in custody, will please see that the specific offence is stated, e. g. :— Stealing £ 1,000 from Bank ; stealing pair of boots from shop door; stealing bale of silk ; van unattended. & c., & c. This may often prove a ready means of recognition, and Judges have recently complained of the absence of such particulars in dealing with previous convictions. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. A solicitor ; native of London. Is supposed to have taken a cafe or tea gardens iu Davonsbira or Cornwall. See Case No. 2, 15th ult. " Warrant issued. 2— B Division.— For stealing, 9th nit., a Humber pattern bicycle, Dunlop- Welch tyres, " Stevenson & Lennox " on head— R. PYWATER, age 20, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fair, hair brown, clean shaved ; has the appearance of a foot- man ; dress, light suit, dark overcoat, hard felt hat. A native of Kings Lynn. Warrant issued. 3.—£ Division.— For obtaining £ 5 by adver- tising for a clerk and inducing applicants to deposit money as security — WILLIAM HARRISON, a^ e 5: 3, height 5 ft, 5 in., complexion fair, hair light, speaks quickly; respectably dressed. Warrant issued. 4. — G Division. — For obtaining by false pretences, 3rd October last, 10 pieces of Axminster CM pet— FRANCIS JOSEPH BUTLEB, age 4! height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion, hair and b'ard ( turning grey) dark. May now be clein shaved. Respectably dressed. Native of Barnsley, York 8. Was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment at Stafford Assizes, in Jane, 1889, for fraud at Birmingham. 5.— K UlVISIOn'.— Vorstealing, 20th ult., a grey cob, 14 hands, long ( ail, silver mane, a set of silver- plated harnefs, and " Stanhopa " gig, painted daik green, p'eked out black, green cushions, and dark mauve rng JOHNSON ( supposed false), age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair lijjht, pock- marked, wearing dark frieze overcoat, and light brown felt hat. MARTIN, a clothier's traveller, » ge 40, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, citrplexicn fresh, hair ( bald on top) brown, whiskers and heavy mou tache ( turning grey) brown, eyes blue; dress, black melton overcoat, black cloth morning coat and vest, brown check trousers stand- up collar, flat t^ p black felt hat. Is fond of billiards. Absconded 22nd ult. Warrant issued. 7. — P Division. — For housebreaking, 2t> th nit., and stealing 1 black cloth jacket and ve3t; 2 black serge jackets; 1 ditto vest; 1 black frock coat and vest; 1 brown plaid suit; and £ 3— TWO MEN : 1st, sge 35, fceight 5 ft. 10 in., complexiou fair, ttubhy beard; wearing the stolen plaid coat, dirty brown trousers, and black hard hat. 2nd, ago 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion, hair, whiskers, and moustache dark ; wearing dirty white slop, red neckerchief, bla. k harl felt hat. Beth have the Appearance of tramps, and may be found in Kent or Surrey- 8. — P Division. — For stealing ( bailee) a double- barrel central fire 12- bore gun, rebounding locks, " Bond, London," thereon, in black cloth cover, corners covered with leather— WALTER BATES, age 40 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., very slight build, complexion sallow, hair and slight moustache light, sbarp- pointed Roman nose; dress, black morning coat and vest, light trousers, light cloth cap, lace boots. A traveller in the wine and spirit trade. Is a good pigeon shot- May be found in Manchester or the north of England. KERRIGAN, a^ e 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, stoufc build, I nir, whiskers ar. d nr. oustache reddish turning grey, chin shaved ; speaks with Irish accent; dress, grey tweed jacket suit, waterproof coat with cape, brown V. ard felt hat, strong lace boots ; wore a gold chain. A hawker. He hires a horse ani trap and obtains board and lodging for five or six days, and absconds without paying for either. His goods and letters ara usually addressed " T. Kerrigan, to be called for," at a railway station or po3t office. Warraut issued. Information tj the Chief Constable of Ayrshire, Ayr. FORFARSHIRE. 14.— Brechin ( Bwgh).— Portrait and de- scription of WILLIAM TOSH, whose apprehension is sought for embezzling about £ 300— Age about 50, height about 5 ft. 7 in., very corpulent, complexion fresh, hair light or sandy ( tnrninggrey), whiskers and moustache cut short; dress, when last seen, dark grey jacket suit, zig- zag pattern, light overcoat, dark felt hat, and boots. A cloth inspector; native of Dundee. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Smart, Brechin. SON, and JOHN M'CALLUM, Office No. 31035, whose apprehension is sought on suspicion of attempted safe- breaking, between SOtli ult. and 1st inst.:— Age 49, height 5 ft. 5£ in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) browu, eyes grey, long face, high cheekbones, scar on right, and on both eye- brows, 3 scars left temple, " C. S." inside left fore- arm, speaks with English accent; dress, heavy navy- blue overcoat, daik trousers, high crowned black felt lat A shoemaker. Sentenced at Glasgow, 22nd Au. usfc, 1882, to 5 years penal servitude for theft. Reg. No. XL 159, and Scotch Criminal Register, 437/ 93. He is supoosed to have been assisted by A MAN ( supposed WM. KENNEDY), a? e about 30, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, full face, fair moustache, speaks with English accent; wore an overcoat and tweed cap or felt hat. The thieves left Dundee, 1st inst., by the 7.15 a. m. North British train for the south, one of them carry- ing a brown leather handbag. They left behind a set of burglar's instruments, 1 black leather handbag, 1 black glazed ditto, 1 dark lantern, an umbrella with straight white whin handle, a piece of ssshline, a piece of sheet lead, and portions of the " Scotsman " and Edinburgh " Evening Despatch " of 29th ult. Hunter is also wanted at Greenock for being con- cerned with two men in custody for shopbreaking. Information to Chief Constable Dewar, Dundee. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 16.— Swansea ( Borough).— For embezzlement — HENRY TAYLOR, age 60, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair ( cut short, bald on top) dark, turning grey ; dress, black serge suit, hard felt hat. Had with him two hand- bags and a portmanteau. A native of Cornwall. Lefr, Swansea, 30th Sept. last, stating he was going to Cnrdiff and Weston- super- Mare.. Was seen at Cardiff on 23rd Oct. last, when he appeared to have been drinkiDg heavily. Warrant issued. Information to Capt. Colquhoun, Swansea. ISLE OF WIGHT. 17 — Newport ( County).— For stealing, 26th ult., by housebreaking at East Cowcs, 2 gentlemen's gold English lever watches, one No. 24524, maker " J. Dimmick, W. Cowes"; 1 lady's ditto, No. 24237, maker—" Simpson Benzie " ; 1 gentleman's gold albert chain, cable pattern, plain gold bar swivel, and American spring kjy attached; 1 lady's long gold chain, very small links, gold pencil and locket encircled with pearls outside attached; 2 ladies' rings ( 1 turquoise and diamonds, 1 emeralds and diamonds); 3 plain gold keeper rings and 1 wedding ling ( much worn) ; 1 gentleman's plain signet ring; 1 gold brooch ( pin missing), and ear- rings, set small diamonds in centre; 1 gold locket and chain, ^ inch wide, flat close link pattern; 1 pair very small gold earrings, imitation of bellows, small red stone in centre; 1 silver chain, locket, earrings, brooch ( pin missing), and bracelet; and £ 6 or £ 7 — TWO MEN: 1st, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion pale; dress, long dark overcoat, round black felt hat; 2nd, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., com plexion sallow, hair and moustache dark; dress, long dark overcoat, round black felt bat. And A WOMAN, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft., com- plexion fresh, coarse features; dress, green dress black or brown jacket, black turban hat, muff with purse clasp in front, carried a re I p'aid travellio"- rug or shawl. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Gib3on, Newport. LEICESTERSHIRE. 18— Leicester ( Borough).— For embezzlement. PATRICK KENNEDY, age 24, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion fresh, red nose, hair and slight moustache black, restless eyes, well dressed. Has been a builder's apprentice, but Lite ly employed as an ironmonger's traveller. Warrant issued. 19.— Leicester ( Borough)— For stealing, 21ft ult., £ 3 10s. 9d.— ARTHUR CHARLES KILBY, age 15, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, cut scar down nose, well educated; dress, roagh blue pi'ot jacket, velvet collar, corduroy trousers, light cap, heavy boots. Information to Chief Constable Lnmley, Town Hall, Leicester. LINCOLNSHIRE. 20.— Market Rasen ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 12th ult. — JOHN WILLIAMSON, alias JOHN WALKER, age 42, height 6 ft., slight build, complexion fair, hair and moustache light, slight beard ; dress, bluish jacket, brown or grey coat, dark vest, drab cord trousers ( all greasy), heavy lane boots ; appearance of an engiue driver. A dock labourer, has also been employe 1 as a fitter in a foundry. He calls on clergymen and others, representing he is a railway servant, collecting money for another servant who has met with an accident somewhere on the line, and is likely to be off duty for weeks, during which he would receive only 5s. per week, from the railway company. NORFOLK. 21. — Great Yarmouth ( Borough). — For obtaining, 22nd nit., £ 3 15s. 6d., by means of a worthless cheque, payable to Eva Hall, purporting to be drawn by Joseph Clifford, on the Birmingham Branch of the Birmingham, Dudley, and District Bank— EVA HALL, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion very pale, long features, hair very dark, hesitating manner when speaking; dress, dark dress, fawn- colour cape, black hat. Carried a black handbsg. She engages apartments and obtains goods from tradesmen by giving the householder as a reference. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Parker, Great Yarmouth. STAFFORDSHIRE. 22— Stafford ( County).— For failing to report License Holder SAMUEL ROWE, Office No. 48723, age 45, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes blue, slender build, Roman no3e inclines to right, scar on 1st right finger, 1 on chest, 2 ( large) inside left forearm, 1 ( large) centre of lower lip ; dress, dark coat, mixed tweed vest, mole- skin trousers, black felt hat, laced boots. Sentenced at Hereford Assizes, 5th December, 1889, to 7 years penal 6ervitade for arson. Liberated on second license 17th September, 1895. P 496. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Longden, Stafford. SUSSEX ( WEST). 23.— Arundel ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 19th ult., ten watches: 1 open face silver verge, No. ( supposed) 7114, " J. Smart" eDgraved on inner case, maker, " Lasseter, Arundel " ; 1 large open- face silver, No. 6601, worn smooth at back ; 1 silver English lever hunter, No. 5811, slight figures and hands, dial chipped at XII, makers, " Greenberg & Richmond, Brighton"; 1 Waterbury watch; 1 lady's silver geneva, black hands, dial chipped at 8 ; 1 lady's ditto, No. 6888, wreath on dial, rose engraved on back of case; 1 gentleman's silver hunter. No. 31224-; and 3 others ( reaovered) — JAMES STEVENS, alias DAVID JOHN TYLER, DAVID JAMES TYLER, DAVID STEVENS, JOHN STEVENS, and DUDLEY ELLIOTT, age 40, height 5 ft. 4 in., rather Btout build, complexion FRIDAY, DECEMBER G, 1895. T H E POLICE GAZETTE. 3 fresh, hair ( bald on forehead) and moustache dark, may grow a thick dark beard, has lost one eye, the other grey, h » s a bunion on both feet, - which some- times cause him to walk lame ; dress, black overcoat with astracban cuffs, grey or dark trousers, blucher boots, black hard hat or grey cap. He takes lodg isgs in a town, visits neighbouring villages, and obtains watches and jewellery to repair with which he absconds. Was sentenced to 9 months imprison ment at the Guildhall, Westminster, on 19th October, 1889; to 9 months at Aylesbury Quarter Sessions, 12th October, 1891; to 12 months at Lewes Quarter Seniors, 4th April, 1893; and is supposed to have subsequently been convicted at High Wycombe, Bucks. WILTSHIRE. 24.— Marlborough ( County).— Escaped from custody of police at Ramsbury, 28th ult., charged, on a warrant, with stealing ferrets — THOMAS PERRY, age about 23, height 5 ft. 5 io., slight build, complexion fair, hair light brown, moustache Jirrht, eyes blue, prominent teeth ; dress, short dark cloth jacket, cloth trousers, black hard felt hat. A labourer; native of Lambourn Woodlands, Berks. Well known as a poacher in Berks and Wilts. Has been several times convicted of offences ag* in3t the game laws. Information to Supt. Pierce, Marlborough. YORKSHIRE ( WEST RIDING). 25 — Barnsley ( County ) — For failing to report- License Holder GEORGE WILLIAM BRANDON, alias GEORGE WILLIAM EAGLETON, GEO. SIMPSON, and WILLIAM GEORGE MORRI- SON, Office No. 47654, age 49, height 5 ft. 8 in., eomplexioa pale, hair grey, eyes brown, bald front and top of head, mole right breait, flat che6t, 2nd right toe bent downwards, back and shoulders hairy, supposed to have dyed hair and whiskers black ; dress, black billycock hat, new fawn- coloured over coat, with light velvet collar, collar and lie. This man took a company of theatrical artists to Barnsley, to perform in the circus on the 18th ult., lio received the takings on the 18th and 19th ult., and absconded on the 20th nit., leaving the artists without means , Sentenced at Preston Sessions, 8th April, 1891, to 5 years penal servitude and 7 years police super- vision for conspiracy to defraud. Licensed 0th February, 1895. LR 186. Information to Supt. Kane, Barnsley. 26. — Saddleworth ( County). — For stealing, between 25th and 26th ult, a watch and chain ( recovered)— JORAM or JORHAM WILKINSON, late of Harrop Green, Diggle, age about 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair brown, slight moustache of recent growth, respect- able appearance; dress, daik cloth suit. A photo- ^ apher; supposed native of Leeds. Supposed gone to Leeds or Nelson. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Prcsser, Saddleworth. 27. — Doncaster ( Borough).— For larceny, 29th ' alt.— A man giving the name of EDWARD, age 35 to 40, height about 5 fc. 6 in., well- built, hair brown, long heavy dark moustache, eyes blue, long book sose, scar on bridge, of rather foreign appearance ; dress, long snuff colour double- braasted overcoat with light chick lining, light eandy- colour suit, brown cloth cap, strong lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Lister, Doncaster_ PERSONS IN CUSTODY CARDIGANSHIRE. 28. — Llandyssul ( County). — Committed for trial, at next Lampeter Quarter Sessions, for stealing 3 billiard balls— ROBERT GOWEN DAYIES, age 34, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion swarthy, hair dark ( rather bald), eyes blue, well educated. A travelling wood carver; states he is a native of Penygroes, Carnarvonshire. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Williams, Llandyssul. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 29.— Cardiff ( Borough).— Committed for trial j » t Cardiff Borough Quarter Sessions for attempting to pick pockets— GEORGE McMAHON ( supposed false), age 61, height 5 ft. in., stout build, com- plexion ruddy, round face, hair white, side whiskers and heavy moustache E& ndy ( turning grey), eyes grey, nose slightly inclined to right, no upper and only 2 lower teeth, cut scar ( fleshy lump at one end) upper part of throat, blue scar back of left thigh, several white scars over belly and loins; dress, grey check overcoat and long cape, black worsted ccat and vest, light check trousers, cardinal tie and gold pin, hard felt hat, brown boots. States le is a furniture dealer, but refutes his address. Sentenced at Kmisford Quarts Sessions, November 1880, to 9 months imprisonment for larceny ( person), as GEO. M' MAHON; at Birmingham Petty Sessions, 7th July, 1888, to 3 months for frequenting, as GEO. MORLEY; at Leicester Petty Sessions, 12th Nov., 1888, to 3 months for frequenting, as CHAS. MORLEY; at Linco'n Petty Sessions, 28th March, 1889, to 3 months for attempting to pick pockets: at Clerkenwell Sessions, 23rd March, 1891, to 18 months for picking pockets ; at Chester Petty Sessions, 28tb June, 1893, to 3 months for frequent- ing, as GEORGE MiMAHON; at Soutliport Petty Sessions, 9th October, 1893, to 3 months for picking pockets, as WILLIAM FLETCHER. Information to Head Constable McKenzie, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 30.— Dursley ( County).— Sentenced, 2nd inst., to 21 days imprisonment for larceny— WILLIAM IRVING" BELL, age 26, height 5 ft. 8 in , com- plexion fair, hair datk brown, eyes grey, scar left forefinger and right shin, small mole centre of tbroat, gentlenanly appearance and of good address; dress, long grey frock coat and vest, light grey check tweed trousers, lighi plaid cap.
