Stated he belonged to the Army Reserve. Warrant issued. 16.— Bitterne ( County).— For deserting his wife and children— BENJAMIN WM. HODGETTS, age 31, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., hair dark brown, slight moustache light, eyes grey, soar under chin; dress, black coat and vest, small blue and black check trousers, brown cap. CART WRIGHT, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion dark ( sunburnt), hair dark brown, moustache brown, eyes dark, rather delicate appearance ; dress, usually black suit, white straw hat. He answers advertisements in the " Exchange and Mart," offering a pneumatic bicycle in exchange for the article advertised, which he asks may be sent on mutual exchange, and on receipt will send the bicycle, which he fails to do, but immediately disposes of the article sent. He left Portsmouth on 18th ult., accompanied by his wife, 2 other women, and 2 children. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. HERTFORDSHIRE. 18— Hemel Hempstead ( Oounty).— For obtaining lodgings and money by false pretences, at Great Berkhamstead, 16th ult.— A man of colour known as DARK JOE, age from 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion dark, hair ( curly) black, eyea dark, good teeth; dress, serge suit, white straw hat, brown boots. A footman; speaks English fluently. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Frogley, Hemel Hempstead. 19.— Watford ( County).— For fraud— A MAN, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 6 in , complexion ruddy, hair iron grey, moustache light, eyes grey, limps slightly and carries a stick ; dress, dark jacket and vest, light trouseif, etraw hat. His modus operandi is to call at a house for a certain tradesman's book, which he takes to the shop on the pretence of paying the amount due, tendering a cheque for a larger amount and obtain- ing the balance in cash. Rawson" on cover, 1 cheque- book, 1 brown elrab overcoat, cape attached, 1 old coloured skirt — FREDERICK LEONARD HEMS LEY ( supposed false), age about 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion dark, hair ( wavy) black, clean shaved, large mouth, only one tooth in upper front jaw, speaks quickly and with foreign accent; dress, black double- breasted jacket, light grey cloth vest, brown trousers, brown straw hat, lace boots. KENT. 21.— Dartford ( County).— For stealing, 23rd ult., a light grey fancy tweed suit ( Rugby jacket), grey bone buttons; a black diagonal cloth jacket and vest, and a pair of light grey trousers ( all new) — FREDERICK SMITH, age 27, height 5 ft, 8 in., complexion sallow, hair ( early) and slight moustache dark, eyes hazel, 3 warts left of neck, 2 dots left forearm, several small moles on body; dress, dark check suit, black hard hat. Stated he had just left the army, and was ongaged fitting electric lights. He obtains clothes for approval, selects some, and decamps. Has been convicted of larceny at Lancaster in name of FRANCIS HENRY SIMMONDS; of false pretences at Salford and Wigan, in name of GEORGE ROBINSON; of larceny at Liverpool in namo of GEORGE HARRIS, and of larceny ( trick) at Canterbury in na- e of FREDERICK SMITH. LANCASHIRE. 22.— Blackburn ( Borough).— For failing to re- port- Supervisee RICHARD MORRIS, Office No. 47889, age 40, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair black, eyea blue, scar each eyebrow, abscess marks each side of neck, left arm twisted from injury, nose inclines to left. Sentenced at Preston Sessions, 4th July, 1894 to 9 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision for larceny. 703. A deserter from the King's Own Liverpool Regiment, in which he has served as drummer during the past 18 months. Native of Rochdale. Information to Chief Constable Buck, Rochdale. LEICESTERSHIRE. 25.— Lutterworth ( Oounty).— For assault, 9th ult.— WILLIAM WILLSON, alias RINGEY, ago about 36, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in , complexion, hair, and eyes dark, wears small gold ear rings; dress, dark cloth jacket, large inaide pockets, double- breasted vest, brown cord trousers, black hard billy- cock hat, heavy lace boots; has the appearance of a navvy. LINCOLNSHIRE. 26.— Caistor ( Oounty).— For obtaining food and money, by false pretences, 20th ult.— A man who gave the name of JAMES OSBOURNE, age 69, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, complexion pale, sharp features, hair ( very thin on top), and pointed moustache grey, very deaf, slight impediment in speech, twitch in left eye, scar left side of forehead, tattooed on both arms, " M. A. R." on one; dress, black morning coat and vest, dark blue trousers, light grey e » p, white collar, elastic- side boots. He represents that he has property in Canada, and that he has just won a law suit in London, by which he becomes entitled to soveral thousands of poands, obtains money to pay court fees, & c., and in consideration thereof, makes a will in the lenders favour. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 28.— Daventry ( Oounty).— For stealing 1 lady's gold watch, gold face ( scratched), black figures; 1 long gold chain, small round links ; 1 short gold chain and locket with buckle engraved thereon; 1 ring with two lockets ( 1 with anchor, heart, and cross) ; 1 bracelet composed of tsoloured stones about 1 inch' long linked together with silver wire — TWO MEN, 1st, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown ; dress, black tweed jacket and vest, light cord trousers, black pilot cap, army boots. Supposed an army reservist. 2nd, ago about 50, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top) turning grey, thick dark moustache ; dress, new white vest and slop, whito cord trousers, single peaked cap. Navvies, lately employed on the M. S. and L. Railway now in course of construction at Woodford. Information to Supt. Hustler, Daventry. 29.— Pete r bo rough ( Liberty of).— For larceny. A MAN, ago 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., stoat build, complexion fresh, moustache dark, has lost portions of 2 or 3 fingers from one hand; dress, dark cloth jacket and vest, dark necktie, turn- down collar, dark cloth cap, lace boots, very shabby appear- ance.
