All announcements for insertion in tl, e POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed' to THIS EDITOE OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. YYR. 2- Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sough t will le inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTB, if then are sufficient to enableaction to be taken upon them bi/ another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the pay vent must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. G. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of 7s. ed. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. fi Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or nnaloaous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons tobe apprehended or of stolen property hear anumber, and an alphabetically arranged by counties. 0. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted it the PoLtcs GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings whiilt ma*/ result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarced so at to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday m ruing. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper oniy, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond $ Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Witting, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rales on application. 14. The following is a copy of the order which governs the rirculation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detoc klon of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— I. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of erlme, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of Commissioners, on the application of private persons, 9r of the Police of any County or Borough, must be e'early : pressed in relation to the following points- fa) The amount of the reward. ( b) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 0) The person by whom it will be paid. ( d) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. 8. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the • « ward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. NOTE.— 2here are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Police Force at which Notices can le posted. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. Native of London. Stated he was a reporter connected with the " North London News." Warrant issued. 3. — D Division. — For obtaining jewellery etc., by false pretences— WILLIAM RADCLIFFE alius REV. W. RADCLIFFE, and REV. LINDSAY age 41, height 5 ft. 9j io., complexion fresh ( slightly sunburnt), hair and eyes dark brown, several small moles on neck, arms and chest, 2nd left toe crooked dress, bla.- k frock coat with silk facings, light trousers, high silk hat. A clerk ; native of London. Absconded 16th ult. Warrant issued. 5.— D Division.— For embezzling £ 4 6s.— SAMUEL CLIFFORD, alias CLAPHAM, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexioa florid, hair and moustache light; dress, light grey jacket suit, light cavert coat, black hard felt hat. A canvasser native of Old Trafford. Absconded 16th ult. Warrant issued. 6. — G Division. — For embezzlement — A. LFRED HENRY SKINNER, a clerk, late of 37, Pictoria Avenue, Walthamstow, age 28, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion dark, high forehead, hair and moustache black, eyes hazel. Was last heard of at Dover, where he was going under the name of JACKSON. Ia supposed to have gone to Belfast. Warrant issued. Not to be apprehended out of the United King- dom. Stated he belonged to the Army Reserve. Warrant issued. 10.— Bitterne ( County).— For deserting his wife and 4 children— BENJAMIN WM. HODGETTS, age 31, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., hair dark browD, slight moustache light, eyes grey, scar under chin; dress, black coat and vest, small blue and black check trousers, brown cap. STAFFORDSHIRE. 17— Longton ( County).— For embezzling £ 11 13s. 10^ 1. between April and August last — ADAM PATTINTON PETTIPHER, age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair, moustache, and straggling side whiskers dark ( turning grey), eyes grey, deaf, slightly bow- legged and walks as though he had tender feet; die, 8, short blue serge jacket, light striped cloth trousers, stand- up collar, print tie, low black hard hat, sometimes wears grey suit. Lately employed as machine cleik by the Longton Corporation. May attempt to obtain a situation at Leeds. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. An upholsterer; native of Colchester. Warrant issued. 20.— Ipswich ( Borough)— For larceny— JOHN BROOM, ago 61, height 5 ft. in., complexion Billow, hair, whiskers, moustache and eyes ( crossed) grey; dress, shabby grjy cloth suit. A bricklayer WARWICKSHIRE. 24.— Birmingham ( City).— For assault, 4th ult.— ANTONIO BOVO or BOVIE, age 33, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion much tanned, hair and mous- tache dark brown, eyes slightly crossed ; dress, wheu last seen, black cloth morning coat, brown corduroy trousers, black hard hat, red muffler, heavy watertight boots, wears a silver watch and white metal chain, walks very erect. A street musician ; native of Atina Cusserta, Italy. Well known in London, Liverpool, and Keighley, Yorkshire. Was sentenced to 3 months imprisonment for shooting and wounding, at Leeds Assizes, in July, 1894. Warrant issued. Not to be apprehended bey on I the United Kiogdom. WORCESTERSHIRE. 25.— Worcester ( City).— For obtaining, 19th ult., by means of a fictitious cheque for £ 29, on the Manchester and County Bank, Manchester, No. F 078789, signed " E. Leach," a dark brown cart horse, about 4 years, 15 to 16 hands, white streaks on ribs and near hind quarter, white mark near forefoot, short tail ( undocked), which was conveyod to Birmingham by train— Two men : 1st gave the name of E. LEACH, real name supposed STARBUTT, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 10in ' slight build, complexion and hair dark, small side whiskers and moustacho ; dresp, dark c'o'. hes, stand- up collar, b'ack felt hat. Supposed native of Manchester. 2nd gave the name of WILLIAM WILSON", ego about 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., stout build, com- plexion fair, hair light, slight moustache ; appear- ance of a horse- dealer ; wore a light suit. Supposed native of Manchester. Warrant issued. Bielby, Sheffield. 31.— Doncaster ( Borough).— Woodcut portrait and description of HENRY NAYLOR, late chief goods clerk in the employ of the Great Northern Railway Company, wlicse apprehen; ion is sought for embezzling about £ 200, age about 50, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair, beard, and mous- tache ( turning grey) tandy, eyes grey, front teeth decayed, takes snuff ; dress, when last seen, light brown mixture tweed suit, and felt hat. Of rather slovenly appearance. Has friends at Mirfield, Yorks. ESSEX. 39.— Chelmsford ( County). — Committed for trial for obtaining beer bv false pretences— THOMAS WALTER NEEVE " alias THOMAS WYNTER NEEVE, ago 65, height 5 ft. in., complexion dark, hair dark brown ( turning grey), eyes brown, small boil scar loft cheek, pirt of right car deficient, stoops slightly. A veterinary surgeon; native of Haleswortb, Soffolk. Photograph may be seen on application. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Somerset, Chelmsford. CHESHIRE. 35.— Nantwich ( County).— For larceny from a railway station— GEORGE WHITE, age 32, height 5 ft. 7 in , complexion fresli, hair dark brown, slight moustache light brown, eyes grey, flags and star tattooed inside left forearm, crown, anchor, and star inside right forearm, mole left cheek ; drees, brown tweed jacket, grey tweed vest, dark cloth trousers, with stripe, blue- and- whito check turn- down collar blue tie, with white spots, black hard felt hat, lace bcots. CUMBERLAND. 36.— Brampton ( County)— Committed for trial at next Cumberland Quarter Sessions, to bo held at Carlisle on 15th inst., for attempting to pick pockets — GEORGE FINCH ( supposed false), age 42 height 5 ft. in., stout build, complexion fresh, round full features, hair dark brown, moustache light, eyes blue, cut on knuckle of left forefinger, smart appearance; dress, drab- coloured serge suit, black hard felt bat, broad- toed shoes, carried an umbrella. A dealer; native of Dublin. Supposed previously convicted. Refusos to give any account of himself or to be photographed. Appears well acquainted with prison discipline. Information to Supt. DORSETSHIRE. 37.— Dorchester ( County). — Committed for trial at the Dorset Quarter Sessions, 16tb inst., for larceny— RICHARD LYNE, alias LYNES, age 36, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, crossed flags tattooed right forearm. Native of Cc- rno Abbas, Dorget. Tramps the country. Supposed known in South WaleB. The above is the man wanted for the offence, Case No. 16, 24th November, 1893. Information to Supt. Devenish, Dorcheatcr. 38.— Poole ( County).— Committed for trial at next Quarter Sessions for larceny — HENRY JOHNSON, alias THOMAS KING and JOSEPH THOMPSON, age 24, height 5 ft. in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, scar on left wrist and back of head, tattooed " I love," and dots right forearm, " H. Cajunce," figure, and dots, heart with spear left forearm. A fisherman; states he is native of Newcastle- on- Tyne. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Hains, Poole.
