PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1895. VOL. XII, No. 1224. REGULATIONS. 1. All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to TUB EDITOB OF TUB POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of lbs. per portrait, and of 7s. Gd. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 1. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Tnsverfnr or nnalnnn*'* 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and art. alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next isste. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, Kill le wholly responsible for any proceedings lohuh may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later then noonon Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond Sf Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. Warrant issued. 6.— M Division. — For embezzling £ 138— ROBERT NOBLE, age 50, height 5 ft. 7 iD., rather stout build, complexion sallow, hair dark ( turning grey), eye? grey; dress, navy blue serge suit, flat crown felt hat. Native of Wells, Somerset. A boiler mater. Supposed working at Cardiff docks. Late Secretary of the Sons of Great Britain Friendly Society. Warrant issued. 7— M Division.— For stealing £ 8- ED.\ IUXD FREDERICK ARNOLD, age 19, height 5 ft. 7 in, complexion pale, hair black, eyes grey; dress, black jacket and vest, fawn trousers. Native of Jersey. May visit Cowden, Kent. Absconded 14th inst. 8— M Division.— For stealing, 10th inst., a spotted grey cart- horse, 16 hands, 11 jeirs, a set of brass- mounted harness, and a covered vaD ( van recovered) — FRED PEACHEY, age 21, height 5 ft. 11^ in., complexion fresh, large features, hair and slight moustache light, rolling gait; dress, cord sleeve- waistcoat, blue guernsey, cord trousers, blue neckerchief, peak cap, heavy lace boots. Native of Alberry, Hertfordshire. Well known at Bishop Stortford. May be found in company of hay carters in Essex or Hertfordshire. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Polioe Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. S. No expression must be used in such an advertise Kent, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offendtu being brought to trial, or without enquiry. Native of London. Has friends at Stranraer, Scotland. May bo found at sea- side resorts. Warrant issued. BERKSHIRE. 9.— Reading ( Borough).— For stealing a pony, trap, acd harness ( recovered)— A man, who gave the name of WILLIAM WILSON, age about 22, height about 5 ft. in., complexion sallow, hair and slight mousta he dark brown, respectable appearance ; dress, dark ser^ e jacket suit, light tie, with horse- shoe safety- piD, black hard low- crowned hat. He hired the pony and trap on 7th iost., and sold them two hours later, signing the receipt as " W. Lawrence." Stated he lived at Strathfieldsaye. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Tewsley, Reading. CARNARVONSHIRE. 10— Conway ( County).— For larceny ( bailee)— JONAH , age 25 to 30, height about 6 ft., slight build, complexion very pale, hair and moustache light, eyes blue, large Romin nose; drese, grey coat and trcusers, white shirt, blsck hat; wears a white apron. ~ Supposed native of London. DORSETSHIRE. 12.— Shaftesbury ( C unty) — For embezzlement - ERNEST GEORGE MAIDMENT, age 22, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, slight light moustache, ejes blue; diess, light coat and vest, light speckled trou era, light cloth cap or black hard hat, stand- up collar, light tie, short dust over- coat. A baker'a assistant; native of Mere, Wiltshiie. May endeavour to leave for Canada. Absconded 14th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Elford, Shaftesbury. Native of Bassaleg, Newport, Monmouthshire. A deserter from the 2nd King's Liverpool Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Coombs, Col- chester. KENT. 18.— Dover ( Borough). — For forging a cheque for £ 4 16s. 9d, on the National and Provincial Bank of England, St. Martin- le- Grand Branch No. D 32G2, signed " Edward JasksoD," on 10th inst — A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., whiskers and moustache dark; usually drosses a3 a painter or plumber, but sometimes wears black frock coat and high hat. He calls upon tradesmen, presents a cheque, and asks to be obliged with change for a plumber who is in business in the town. See Cases Nos. 25, 27, 28, 30, 47, 48, 49, and 50, 17th May last, and No. 21 of this date. 19.— Dover ( Borough).— For stealing, 16th inst — A bicycle, No. 8, Peiegrine, painted on lower bir, 28 iu. driving, 30 in. steering wheel, direct spokes, cushion tyres, marked 297— A MAN, age about 21, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in, stout build, complexion fair, hair light brown, moustache light; dreis, dark coat and vest, dark brown trovers and cap. Sander3, Dover. 20. — Margate ( Borough). — For obtaining £ 4 16s. 9J., by false pretences, on 6th inst.— A MAN, age 18 to 20, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., com- plexion fair, hiir light, may be woaring slight moustache; dress, black jacket and vest, brown trousers, skull cap. Appsaranca ci a respectablo mechanic. He ob'. aius cash from a tradesman in exchange for a cheque, made payable to another tradesman of the neighbourhood, whose endorsement he forges thereto. May bo found acting in concert with a MAN, age about 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in , com- plexion fair, moustache and side whiskers inclined to ginger; dross, blue serge jicket, white sweater, dark troupers, drab skull- cap. They resided together, the elder receiving letters addressed to G. Lee, care of The General Post Office, " to wait until called for." Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constablo Farndale, Margate. 21.— Ramsgate ( Borough). — For obtaining money by means of a fictitious cheque for J£ i 16j. 9d. on the Firsbury Branch of the London and South Western Bank, Limited— ED WARD JACKSON, alias G. LEE, and W. WHITE, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 iu., complexion very dark, hair, full beard, and moustache dark ; dress, dark jacket, brown cardigan jacket, dark grey tweed trousers, black hard felt hat. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 15. — Swansea ( Borough) — For stealing, 13th inst, 1 lady's silver watch, No. 144717; 1 lady's keyless lever watch, No. 32385; 1 silver bracelet with initials " M. D. D." ; and 1 ruby glass smolling bottle, silver top.— A man who gave the name of PEARGE, age about 30, height 5 ft. 10 in , complexion sallow, short stubby moustache, dark hair ( cut very shoit), thick lips, good teeth which he shows when talking. Of Jewish appearance and speaks with a foreign accent; dr^ ss, dark jacket and vest, light trousers, may bo wearing a blue cloth overcoat. 16— Swansea ( Borough).— For embezzlement. LLOYD PRICE, a clerk, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 in, complexion, hair and moustache dark; appearance of a heavy drinker; usually dressed in a drab suit and black hard felt hat. A native of Builth. Formerly Station- master at Devynock. Warrant issued. Not to be apprehended beyond the United Kingdom. Information to Chief Constable Colquhoun, Swansea. HAMPSHIRE. 17.— Aldershot ( County).— For forging and uttering two cheques ( 1 for £ 2 10s. 6d., dated 6th September, 1895, payable to A. Griffiths; the other for £ 23 Is. Id, dated 9th September, 1895, payable to J. West)— A MAN, age 28, height 5 ft. 9J in, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue. A clerk; native of Cape Town, has friends residing at Hayesleigb, Mannamead, Plymouth. A deserter from the Scots Greys. Infeimation to Supt. Mil'tr, Alceishct. LANCASHIRE. 22.— Kirkham ( County).— For siealing, between 8th and 11th inst, 1 pair sea boots ; 1 pair of clogs ( recovered)— A MAN, age abont 34, height 5 ft. 7 in, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, tattooed 2 women anl a lion on left arm, 2 women on light arm; dress, old grey overcoat, brown lining and buttons, paak cap, and clogs. A butcher; native of Southport. Was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment on 29th November, 1893, for Btealing a cow, at Fleetwood. Information to Supt. Cross, Kirkham. 23.— Old Trafford ( County).— For robbery with violence, 13th inst.— A MAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in, rather stout build, complexion, hair and heavy moustache dark; dress, dark suit, short dust- coat, black felt hat, elastic side be> ots. A German; speaks English very imperfectly. A designer in embroidery; formerly employed at embroidery works, Enfield, Middlesex. Information to Supt. Bent, Old Trafford. 24.— Manchester ( City).— For manslaughter — WILLIAM MORRIS, age 27, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in, complexion pale, hair ( curly) dark, moustache sandy; dress, dark coat anil vest, cord trousers, hard felt « hat, lace boots. A labourer; native of Hereford or Shropshire. Warrant issued. 25.— Manchester ( City).— For office- breaking and stealing £ 6, and a crossed cheque on a Crewe bank, drawn by Fletcher, Crewe, payable to Milling & Co.— ARTHUR MATTINSON, ago 23, height 5 ft. 4 in, slight build ; stoops; dress, blue serge coat and troussrs, stand- up collar, blue t'e, blue peak cap. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 26.— Tredegar ( County).— For stealing a black leather putse, containing £ 2 9a. 4d., 2 small keys, and an American half- dime — HENRY FEAR ( supposed false), age about 18, height 4 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, supposed cast in one eye ; dross, light grey coat and vest ( too large for bim), dark cloth trousers, grey peak cap, heavy nailed boots. NORTHUMBERLAND. 27.— Hexham ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) a horse, saddle, and bridle, on 16th July last— THOMAS JOHNSTON, alias GRAHAM, age 44, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in , complexion and hair dark, thin whiskers and moustache} dress ( when last seen), grey coat and vest, cord or fastian trousers, and cap. A journeyman baler; native of Worcester. Previously employed at Bir- mingham and Worcester; left here on 31st ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cope, E vesham. YORKSHIRE ( NORTH RIDING). 33.- Guisborough ( County).— For bigamy — DAVID WILLIAMSON, ege 31, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in, complexion ruddy, hair, side whiskers and moustache dark brown, eyes brown, leans slightly to the right when walking; dress, light grey small check jacket suit, tight- fittii g trousers. Supposed native of Motherwell, Lanarkshire. A groom. Has been travelling for the past three seasons with an entire horse in neighbourhood of Cleveland. Warrant issued. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 38.— Newmarket ( County). — Committed for trial, for larceny— JOHN CLEGG, age 29, height 5 ft. \\ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes ( cast in right) grey, bridge of nose broken, varicose veins both legs, J. C , anchor, and part of whip tattooed left forearm, bracelet left wtist, Blanche and cross right forearm ; dress, ragged brown suit, cap, lace boots. Information to Supt.
