The following is a copy of the order which governs the sfaculation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on aoeoant of their uot being in acoordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the disoovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Polios, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of ths Commissioners, on the application of private persons, er of the Police of any County or Borough, must be o'early expressed in relation to the following points— ( à) The amount of the reward. ( á) The conditions on which it is payable. ( o) The person by whom it will be paid. ( d) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. S. No expression most be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. NOTE.— There are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Police Force at which Notices can be posted. May be found at Grays or Tilbury Docks. Convicted of similar offences in 1894. He calls on clergymen and missionaries, repre- senting that he has forgotten his puree, and obtains money for railway fare. Warrant issued. 8.— p Division.— For embezzlement — R0BT. HILDRETH, age 20, height 5 ft. 7 in. complexion ruddy, thin face, hair ( cut short) and eyes brown, front teeth deficient, clean shaved; dresJ, smooth drab morning co it und vest, dark trousers, light stripes, light cloth peak cap, lase hosts; respectable appearance. SuppDsei native of High Wycombe, where he may visit. May be found playing a mandoline outside public- houses. 10.— V Division.— For stealing, 5th iust., a front steering tricycle, painted black, 36 in. hind wheels with new red rubber solid tyros, 27 in. front wheel ( old tyre), plated cranks and handle- bar, wooden handles, plated bell, poncb, wrench, & o.— A MAN, age 40, height 5 ft. 6 in.; complexion fresh, hair and whiskers sandy; dress, reddish brown suit and cap. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. 11.— Windsor ( Borough). — For deserting his two children, leaving them chargeable to the Windsor Union — CHARLES CAMERON, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, hair dark ( turning grey), clean shaved ; a tailor. Walks lame, has a short leg, and wears a thick cork boot; very jocular in company. A member of the Tailors' Society. Supposed row at Brighton. Warrant issued. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE, 12.— Slough { County).— For stealing:, 6th inst., at Denham, a suit of clothe?, and on 7th inst., at Datchet, a quantity of carpenter's tools ( all re- covered)— A MAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh ( full face), hair brown, long sandy • moustache; dress, shabby grey suit and light cip. Appearance cf a carpenter. Information to Supt. Sutton, Slough. CARNARVONSHIRE. 13.— Bangor ( County).— For housebreaking and larceny— MARY ELLEN PRICE, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft., complexion dark, full face; sap- posed wearing gre^ r shawl, much worn, with broad • border and black snots on edge. Native of Wrexham. • Is accompanied by her husband, William Price, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., slight build, hair 4ark browD, heavy moustaohe ; supposed wearing black coat, muoh worn and rather long. Native of Bangor; belongs to Carnarvon Militia. Left Bangor 3 weeks ago, stating they were going to Pontypridd. Will probably take the coast road, via Montgomery- shire, Cardigan, Brecon, and Glamorgan. Information to Supt. Harris, Banger. DERBYSHIRE. 14.- Chesterfield ( Borough).— For stealing a pneumatic safety bicycle, 1895 pattern, h'gh built diamond frame, balls throughout, rat- trap pedals, rather weak, Smith's patent broad arrow Inter- natioial tyres, bright tangent spoke?, chain, and handle- bar, vulcanite handles, right one split, Orasle lamp by Powell and Hanmer, no brake or mudguard — WILLIAM liELFIELD, alias WILLIAM DISNEY, and WILLIAM LENNOX, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair and slight moustache light; walks erect. Supposed a rative of Darfield, Yorkshire. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Emery, Chester- field. DEVONSHIRE. 15.— Totnes ( County).— For stealing a mare, saddle, and bridle— WILLIAM JOHN DISTIN STEER, alias " DOCTOR BILLY," age about GO, height 5 ft. 5i in., complexion dark, hair and side whiskers grey ( may be wearing a beard), eyes brown, scar over left eye, wart and scar top of breast, cross- flags and sailor back of right arm. anchor on front, female, M. E. S. J. B. J., cross- thgs, H. H. back of left arm, and S H. between thumb and finger left hand; dress, dark clothes, drab leggings, light cloth hat ( wide brim) ; carried an overcoat. A farrier ; native of Kingsbridge, Devon. Warrant issued. 16— Totnes ( County).— For obtaining £ 5 10j. by false pretencrs, at Kingsbridge, oa 15th ult.— IDA KNIGHT, alias ADA POSTLES, and ADA WICKHAM, age 24, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; dross, black melton cloth dress and jacket, white silk handkerchief round Eeck, black tat, trimmed with large slate- colour feather, slate enl- black ribbon, shte- co'onr veil, tan kid gloves, brown shoes with buckles, of Birmingham. Native DORSETSHIRE. 17.— Sturminster Newton ( Oounty).— For stealing five pictures ( bailee)— RICHARD ASH- FIELD, age 22, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair and eyes dark brown, tattooed on left arm, walks erect, addicted to drink; supposed wearing dark brown clothes, military shirt ( No. 4024 thereon), boots and socks. Native of Devizes. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector BurdeD, Sturminster Newton. ESSEX. 18.— Colchester ( County).— For non- payment of fine, & c, for wilful damage — EDWARD J. CAMFIELD, age about 45, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair daik, side whiskers, has an injury to right knee. A hawker and horse- dealer ; native of Ramsgate. Travels the country with an open van, painted a dark colour, picked out ied, and an old dark- coloured cn- t.— STEPHEN HEWITT, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., full face, hair dark. A horse- dealer of Great Yarmouth. Travels the country with a house- van, painted chocolate, picked out red, wheels yellow, picked out red or green. " S. Hewitt, Yarmouth," in large letters on side . NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 25.— Oundle ( Oounty). — For attempting to obtain a pair of shoes by false pretences at King's Cliffe on 2( 3th ult.— A MAN, age about 40, height 6 ft. 1 in., heavy moustache brown, military appear- ance ; dress, brown jacket and vest, dark trousers, brown cap, old boots ( one tied across instep with a piece of tape). Stated he was a painter. He called at a tradesman's shop and presented a note pu » porting to be signed by a plumber and painter in the neighbourhood, asking that bearar be supplied with a pair of boats, and that the bill for same be forwarded for payment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Phenix, Oundle. HAMPSHIRE. 19.— Bitterne ( County). — For larceny — A MAN, age 17, height 5 ft, stoat build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue; dress, doable breasted dark brown check jacket, dark trousers and vest, peak cap with one anchor button on each side, light blue turn- down collar, red tie, low shoes, red socks ; of respectable appearance. Information to Supt. Matthews, Bitterne. HEREFORDSHIRE. 20.— Weobley ( County).— For stealing. 21st ult., at Kington, 9 sheep ( recovered)— A MAN, age 45 to £ 0, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair, rather thin fjice, hair and whiskers turning grey; <? ress, grey Scotch t weed coat and v< st ( small plaid), brown small woollen oord trousers, heavy lace boots. KENT. 21.— Sandgate ( County).— For embezzlement— GEORGE EDWARD LE FEVRE PARSONSON, age about 22, height abont 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair and small moustache light brown, eyes light blue, gentlemanly appearance; dress, black morning coat, dark grey trousers, supposed dark vest. May be wearing a dark blue suit, and white straw hat. A draper's assistant. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Waghorn, Sandgate. LANCASHIRE. 22. — Hurst ( County). — For stealing a horse ( recovered)— A MAN, age about 37, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair brown; dress, brown tweed coat and vest, hard round felt hat, lace boots supposed to have served in the 51st regiment. Has been employed by coach proprietors as driver and yardman for the past nine years. Information to Supt. Hewitt, Hurst. 23.— Manchester ( City). — For stealing, 6th inst., 2 horses: one a heavy dark brown gelding, near hind foot white, the other a very heavy roan gelding — WILLIAM HARDING, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., stout build, full face, moustache sandy ; a horse coper. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Manchester. LINCOLNSHIRE. 21. — Grantham ( Borough) — For stealing ( bailee)— A bay pony, 13 hands 3 inche3, big body, SHROPSHIRE. 26.— Whitchurch ( Oounty).— On commitment warrant for assaulting police— C H A RLE S FIS H ER, age 45, height 6 ft. 2^ in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, heavy moustache and eyes brown, tattooed on left middle finger; dress, usually, drab slop jicket, cotton cord vest and trousers, black hard felt hat, stroDg lace boots. SOMERSETSHIRE. 27. — Weston- super- Mare ( County). — For carnally knowing a girl, age 15 — WILLIAM CROCKER. a{* e 25, height about 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, slight side whiskers and moustache, large nose, addicted to drink, of dirty appearance; dress, brown plaid monkey jacket, moleskin trousers, grey peak cap, heavy lace boots. SURREY. 28.— Guildford ( Borough).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences — MADAME CHANTRIS, age about 60, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion sal'ow, thin face, very bad teeth, hair ( thin) grey, eyos brown, lame but walks with quick step; dress, usually, 2 skirts ( 1 very shabby black, the other blaok with white flowers and white braid down sides), black waterproof oloak with cape, black kid gloves. Carried a black umbrella with black ring handle, and a small parcel containing drawings and a blotting pad with " Diddle & Sons, Printers, Gaildford," thereon. Aa artist. Warrant issued. SUSSEX ( EAST). 29.— East bou rne ( Borough).— For stealing, 2nd in6t., a lady's gold watch and silver chain ( recovered) — CHARLES WAGNER, alias C. PRAON, age abont 30, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., long thin face, high cheekbones, hair very dark, slight dark mous- tache, square bony shoulders; dress, brown double- breasted coat, brown vest, light stripe trouseiv, black hard felt hat. Supposed a German waiter. Called at a lodging- house under pretence of viewing apartments Warrant issued. 30.— Eastbourne ( Borough). — For stealing £ 11 10s.— EBENEZER STAPLEY, age about 22 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 10 or 1 I in., complexion, hair ( rather wavy in front), and small moustache dark, eyes brown ; dress, bluish grey suit, black and white straw hat. Fond of billiards. A wine and spirit merchant's assistant. Formerly a grocer's assistant, and may seek similar employmont. Absconded 27th ult. Warrant issued. WARWICKSHIRE. 32. — Birmingham ( City). — For embezzle- ment— WILLIAM TAFFE, age 19, height 5 ft. 6 in , complexion fair, hair light ( early), clean shaved, eyes blue, sharp features, large nose, stoops when Walking; dress, blue serge suit. A clerk; native of Birmingham. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Farndale, Bir- mingham. WILTSHIRE. 33.— Marlborough { County).— For larceny, 27th ult.— ED WARD FRANKLIN, late of Milden- hall, Wiltshire, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes hazel, 2 front teeth deficient, figure of a woman tattooed on both arms; dress, blue cloth monkey jacket, new white moleskin trousers and vest, black hard felt hat. An Army Reservist. Will probably seek employment at isolated farms. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pierce, Marlboror. gh. WORCESTERSHIRE. 34 — Upton- on- Severn { County).— For steal- ing, 3rd ult., at Malvern, an electro- plated teapot, low round pattern— EDWARD JONES, age about 35, height about 5 ft. G or 7 in., stout build, com- plexion fresh, hair brown, moustache light brown ; dress, dark brown plaid jacket and vest, grey cloth trousers, cap, low Oxford shoes. A plasterer; native of Abersychan, Monmonth. He is a member of the National Association of Plasterers, and will probably call at their lodges in any town through which he passes. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Harrison, Upton- on- Severn. YORKSHIRE ( NORTH RIDING). 35.— Northallerton ( County).— For non- pay ment of fine and costs — TERENCE HOPE, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion dark, hair and moustache black ; dress, black velvet jacket, blue serge trousers. A hawker; native of Cam- bridge. Travels the country with a four- wheeled living van, " T. Hope, Cambridge," on off side; a wagonette containing a quantity of carpets, with " T. Hope, Dealer in all kinds of Now and Second hand Carpets," in large letters, painted on side, drawn by a grey pony. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hutchinson, Northallerton. 36.— Thornaby- on- Tees { County).— Portrait and description of THOMAS BLAYDES BERRY or 8 in , complexion rather dark, hair and moustache dark brown, walks erect; dress, when last seen, light brown mixture suit, brown boots.
