All announcemcnts for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon , should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE 1' OLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND Y IjOnoon, S. W. * 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE G AZETTR, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of pt rsons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of 7s. ( id. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on woo- f. ( V Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must he guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; ana, if the name of suc/ i person he required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed hy the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcemcn's concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analoanus thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force whici causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POI. IOB GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for inser/ ion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will he wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday isnie should be forwaraed so as to be received not Inter than noon on Wednesday, and for the. Tuesday edition not laterthan Saturday miming. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the offi - e, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through 3Ir. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. ADpllC 7th of 3.— It in particularly requested that any oom- plaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity in the date of delivery of the POLIOI GAZETTE, ma; be at once notified to the Editor. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of srime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of kh « Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police o* any County or Borough, must be c'early expressed in relation to the following points— ( à) The amount of the reward. ( á) The conditions on which it is payable. ( o) The peraon by whom it will be paid. ( d) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. I. No expression must be used in Bach an advertise • lent, In relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender Wins brought to trial, or without enquiry. SMITH, Office No. 41935, whose arrest is sought ia this district for obtaining hig livelihood by dishonest means, in contravention of the Prevention of Crime Act, 1871, Section 7, Clause I:— Age 36, height 5 ft 11 in., cDtnpUxion fresh, hair light brown, eyes bluiih grey, mole back an! left of neck t » nd top of each forearm, ruptured right side ; smart appearauce. Amongst other aliaies has used the names of the Earl of Airlie and the Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot, and Doctor Sutheiland, aid has ordered goods in the name of the Earl of Shrewsbury and Talbot, using stationery stamped with a coronet, fu- tile purpos- e. Sentenced at Norwich Sessions, 18th October, 1887, to 5 years penal servitude, in the name of Henry Aiken, for obtaining goods by fraud; subsequently sentenced, 17ih October, 1893, at Wiuchester, as Henry Alexander Chamberlain, to 12 months hard labour for larceny aud fraud; and at Bow- street Police Court, 23rd Oct . b^ r, lo94, to 4 months hard labour for failing to report. Chief officers of police are requested to give instructions to their officers for the arrest of this man, under the section of the Act above quoted, and if arrested to communicate with this office. 2.— B Division-— For obtaining £ 14 by means of worthless cheques— WILLI AM WATSON, age 54, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair, whiskers, and moustache black ( turning grey); dress, blue serge suit, black square hard felt bat. Warrant issued. 6— N Division.— For embezzling £ 3 12s.— DANIEL BERT, or BURT, age 25, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ia., complexion fresh, hair and slight mous- tache light; dress, black coat and vest, light striped trousers. Warrant issued. 7.— P Division. — For robbery with violence, at L ir. iship- lane, 11th inst.— A MAN, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion ruddy ( sunburnt), whiskers ( shaggy) and moustache brown or sandy; drt- ss, dark cloth morning or frock coat ( too laige), dark vest and troussrs, black hard felt hat with large brim. 8.— P Division. — For larceny ( lodger)— CHARLES CRAYNE, alias ELLIS and KEMP, age height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eye3 dark, wears eyeglasses. Of good appearance and well educated; dress, dark tweed suit, long light dust- coat, black hard felt hat. Warrant issued. i 9.— v Division.— For embezzliDg £ 2 5s. 3d., 11th inst,— HARRY JONES, alias PICKLES, age 27, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair light, large blue eyes, tattoo marks left arm, back of hand, and 1st and 2nd fiDgers ; dress, black coat and vest, black- and- grey check trousers, black hard felt hat. A native of Twickenham. May seek employment as a fishmonger's assistant. Warrant issued. 10 — W Division. — For stealing money, jewellery, and securities, and for assault— HER- BERT KRAHN, alias ALEXANDER CORRI- LARD, and LAWRENCE, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion, hair, and moustache, and eyes dark, brushes his moustache np at ends; has 2 TFTE POLICE GAZETTE. ANGLESEY. 12. — Holyhead ( County). — For stealing a single - breasted blue cloth overcoat— FRiNK POSTER ( supposed false), age about 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sunburnt hair ( bald on top) dark brown, clean shaved, tattooed on both arms; wore blue serge trousers, broad brim felt hat. Stated he bad been in America. A tramp; works at farm houses. Warrant, issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Da- vies, Holyhead. BEDFORDSHIRE. 13. — Leighton Buzzard ( County). — For stealing a lady's gold Waltham lever watch, white dial, seconds hands, piece of gold chain attached— A MAN, aae about 25, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion and hair ( thin in froiit and brushed straight down forehead) dark, clean shaved, thin features ; dress, rough dark suit ( double- breasted vest), white tie with coloured strips, white straw hat. Stated he was a commercial traveller. Supposed an American. Information to Supt. Anniwell, Leighton Buzzard. 14.— Luton ( County).— F.. r stealing, 9th inst., from an inn at Dunstable, about £ 19 10s.— TWO MEN : 1st, age about 30, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache light brown; dress, black coat and vest, dark stripa trousers, black hard felt hit, blue- acd- white stripe collar. 2nd, age about 45, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., com- plexion dirk, moustache ginger; dress, dark blue suit, hard felt hat., supposed army boots. Stated he had been in the Army, and was in receipt of a pension. 15— Luton ( County). — For obtaining £ 2 by means of a worthless cheque— A man who gave tho name of G. LOWTON, and W. H. LOUTON, 125, Prince of Wales- road, Kentish Town, age 55 to GO, he'glit 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., thin build, hiir ( bald on top), and moustache turning grey, peculiar light eyes ; dress, dark or black coat and ve> t, light grey plaid or larga check trousers, t'ark necktie, silk hat; of gentlemanly appearance and good addivss. He agreed to take a public- hous » , and to pay £ 43 for fixtures, drew a cheque for £ 45, and obtained the balance. The cheque, No. A 627715, wa3 taken from a book obtained by fraud, from the London and Sou'h Western Bank, Kentish Town Branch. He also attempted to take a beer- house, and has since been endeavouring to find public- houses which are to let. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Tydeman, Luton. BERKSHIRE. 16 — Read'wg1 Bcrough).— For obtaining money by false pretence*. 3rd inst.— A mar, who gave the name of PRITCHARD, age between 30 and 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion very fair, moustache light; dress, grey clotrt suit, hard frit hat. He called at a shop, representing himself as an inspector of weights and measures, and pretended to examine the scdes, when he stated that new ones would be required, whicb he would send on payment of 53. 6d , the balance to be paid monthly. He represented that he was an agent in advance for Ginnett's cir- ua, and obtained money from a corn merchant under the pretence of purchasing forage. Warrant issu< d. Ia supposed to be working on the railway near St. John's Wood. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of the above- named Union for the apprehension of Word. Warrant issued. Has in hia possession 2 pairs of breeches, gaiters, and other clothing. Supposed native of Suffolk. Accompanied by a woman, age about 30, height about 5 ft, complexion sallow, eyes dark, scar on nose; wtarin* a dress of black figured material, bla' k jacket « nd hat; enciente. Warrant issued. Ackers, Colchester. 24 — Colchester ( Borough). — For stealing, 6th inst, a gold watch and chain ( recovered); 1 plain go d brooch, with curl of light hair in centre, secured by two pearls, and £ 2 WOODS ( supposed false), nge about 27, height abont 5 ft. 6 in , cornp oxion pale, hair dark, and slight moustache brown, low forehead, with tuft of hair hanging over, heavy dark eyebrows; dress, dark serge jacket ( much worn), black vest and trousers, black hard hat. Warrant issued. 25.— Colchester ( Borough).— For stealing, 1st inst:— A silver watch and gold ring ( recovered) — ARTHUR RIEBOLD, sge 21 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 4 in , complexion fair, hair da k blown, cast in one ej e ; of Jewish appearance, and childish manuer; dress, black coat, grey ve^ t ( much too large), light grey trousers, black hard hat. Had in his possession— 1 light twe^ d sh > oting coat, 1 pair light tweed knickerbockers, 1 pair lrght brown diagonal tweed trousers, which were entrusted to him to repair, and of which he may attempt to dispose. FORFARSHIRE. 26.— Forfar ( County).— For stealing cattle, 5tli inst., at Kiucreich Mill, Inverarity ( recovered)— WILLIAM MOIR, ago about 30, height ahout 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, complexion frdsh, roun i fa e, hair ( inclined to curl) and moustache brown, bow- legged, flat footed ; dress, black corded cloth coat and vest, grey striped trousers, round r>] ack felt hat. A commission agent; native of Inveraiity. He sold the cattlc at Perth on same day, i. i name of William Fenton, and was paid in British L nen Company Bank Notes. Arrived at La- igtou, Cum- berland, on 6tli inst., and went to CJI' isle ( where he is well- kDown) on 10th. Had a large su- n iu Sjotch notes in his possession, and state I he h id been in the cattle trade. Has dealt in hors s i: i Walea, and is known at Denbigh and Llandudno. His baen convicted at Carlisle, Glasgow and Edinburgh, Mid was discharged from prison about 1st inst. May endeavour to leave the country. Information to the Chief Constable of Forfar- shire, Forfar. MARKER, a tobacconist's traveller, age 32, height 6 ft., slight build, complexion pale, hair and moustache dark brown; tlress, usually, dark grey plaid suit, black bowler hat, tennis shirt with low collar. Absconded 13tli ult., and is Bup- posed to have booked to Liverpool. Warr. nt issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Capt. Colquhoun, Chief Constable, Swansea. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. £ 1 REWARD. 28 — Cheltenham ( County) — For desertirgbis wife and family, leaving them chargeable to the Cheltenham Union— HARRY FRANKLIN, age 43, height 5 ft. 8 in., well built, complexion fresh, hair dark browD, rather heavy sandy moustachq, eyes brown, military appearance. A tailor; native of Banbury, Oxford. Tbe above reward will be paid by Riwland Tice- hurst, Esq., Clerk to the Cheltenham Board of Guardians, to any person giving suoh information as will lead to the arrest of Franklin. Warrant issued. Matthews', Fishponds. 30.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing, 21st ult.— A gold lever watch, No. 30362, white dial, gold hands, maker— Meyers, Bristol; and a single- stone diamond ring, claw setting— A man, giving the name of GEORGE CLEMENT HUGHES, New Kent- road, London age about 24, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., com- plexion dark, hair, moustnche and eyes brown ; dress,, brown mixture plaid suit, white straw hat.
