All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE EDITOK OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen properly, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of 7s. Cd. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to he inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analoqous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and art alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLIC ® GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which mag result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received notlaterthan noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed "• Drummond Sf Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament Street, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. The following is a copy of the order which governs tho circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- iion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering reward for the discovery of property or the detection of srlxne, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of ih » Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be e'early expressed in relation to the following points— ( à) The amount of the reward. ( á) The conditions on which it is payable. ( o) The person by whom it will be paid. (< f) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. 8. No expression must be used in such an advertise' stent, In relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. NOTE.— There are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Police Force at which Notices can be posted. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— E Division.— For failing to surrender to his bail, charged with embezzlement— WILLIAM HENRY NOSS, age 34, height 5 ft. 9 in., very slight build, complexion fair, hair, whiskers, and moustache light brown, eyes grey; dress, grey tweed overcoat with velvet collar, dr. rt grey aiistnr- jacket and vest, light stripe tiousers, high silk hat, lace boots ; of gentlemanly appearance. Warrant issued. 2.— N Division.— For obtaiuing by a fictitious cheque, on 23rd ult., a dark bay cob gelding, 12i hands, recently clipped to knees, short tail, large fore- hoofs, white mark about 3 in. long on hips, short earj ; a light spring cart, rails round top, body painted black, springs, wheels, and shafts red, " Dane, Charing Cross " on caps— Expiree WIL- LIAM CREASY, alias JONES, Office No. 45634, Reg. No. Q 62, age 33, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair and small moustache light brown ( inclined to ginger), eyes blue, 2 upper front teeth deficient, scar right of face, mole right of neck; dress, dark grey or light check suit, light check mackintosh with detachable cape, black felt hat or light cap. Carries a wangce stick. Has in his possession a number of cheques on Messrs Cox & Co'a. Bank, Charing Cress, Nos. between 187551 and 187600. Is accompanied by Martha Sarah Moss, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue ; dressed in dark clothes. See Cases Nos. 4 and 23, 22nd ult. Information to be forwarded to tho Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. name of MACKIE, age 28 to 30, height about 5ft. 7 in., complexion fair, moustache light; wearing brown overcoat, low black hard hat; of good address ; wore a gold ring with large stone. He represented that he was in the employ of an oatato agent who was about to publish a catalogue, and thus obtained payment for insertion of an advertisement. Warrant issued. CITY OF LONDON. 3. — For forging and uttering a cheque for £ 994 15s. 8d., 29th ult.— CHARLES ALBERT SMITH, late of 67, Woodford- road, Forest Gate, age 20, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair ( freckled), hair ( curly) and slight moustache light brown, well dressed, walks erect and quickly; of smart ap- pearance. CARMARTHENSHIRE. 5.— Llandilo ( Oownty).— For obtaining money by false pretences— DAYID McMURRAY, alias McCRAY and PARRY, a* e 55 to 60 ( looks younger), height abont 5 ft. 9 in., complexion ruddy, hair ( short) and moustache sandy, walks erect; dress, brown coat aud vest, dirty cord trousers, light brown cap, lace boots. Speaks with Irish accent. Stated he had been in the Army, and also that he was a native of Belfast. He represented that he was a haulier, and had been deprived of his means of livelihood by the death of his horse. Is identical with SAMUEL McMURRAY, con- victed at Lampeter, 5th November, 1887, and JAMES THOMPSON, convicted at Welshpool, 5th April, 1889 ; Lampeter, 12th April, 1890 ; Llan- rwst, 23rd January, 1892 ; Dolgelly, 24th February, 1892; Wrexham, 21st November, 1892; and Ruthin, 7th March, 1893. BERKSHIRE. 4.— Reading ( Borough).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 20th n't.— A man, giving the CUMBERLAND. 6.— Brampton ( County).— For inflicting bodily harm, on 24th ult.— TWO MEN : lst, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion dark; dress, blue pilot coat reaohing nearly to knees, ( supposed) brown cord trousers, dark cloth cap; wore clogs of different make, one beiDg a Lancashire clog; 2nd, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, moustache light; dress, brown tweed coat, brown cord trousers, much worn at bottoms, ( sup- posed) cloth cap, lace boots. ESSEX. 7.— Saffron Walden ( County). — For obtain- ing, by a fictitious cheque, 23rd ult., a dark brown horse, 5 years, 16 hands in., short mane and tail, off- hind fetlock white, hair rubbed off both sides of neck near withers, small patch of hair off centre of back, well bred, in fair condition, value £ 45— WILLIAM MORRIS ( cupposed false), age 25, 2 THE POLICE GAZETTE. Simmonds, Saffron Walden. 8— Southend - On - Sea ( County). — For stealing ( bailee) a costermon « er's barrow ( recovered) JOHN BROOKS, alias THORNBACK and " OLD BEN," age 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion fresh, long face, hair brown, eyes grey, impediment in speech, tattooed tombstone, " In memory of Jno. HOUNDSON," shield and flags, left forearm, " True love to E. T. H. " right forearm ; wore a black cloth peak cap and dirty clothing. A rag and bone collector; frequents low lodging- houses; supposed native of Sittingboarne. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Chase, Southend- on- Sea. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 9— Dursley ( County). — For embezzlement — GEORGE BEDFORD, age about 55, height 5 ft,. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown, full grey eyes, very prominent teeth; wearing black cloth or blue serge jacket and vest, black overcoat, black bowler hat. A brewer's traveller. Is wdl known at Bristol. Absconded 25th ult. Wariant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Dnrsley. HERTFORDSHIRE. 10.— St. Albans ( City).— For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle ( reamred) CRAIG, a half- caste, age 22, height 5 ft. 9 in., hair ( curly) black, slight moustache, eyes very dark, thick lips and nose; dress, light dustcoat, grey cycling jacket with pleats and waistband, light trousers with cycling clips at bottom, grey cap, patent boots with light gaiter tops. Stated he was the brother of Frank Craig, a pugilist, known as /' The Coffee Cooler." Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Blatch, St. Albans. KENT. 11— Chat ham ( County).— For cardally knowinC a girl under the age of 13— DIXSON JOHNCOCK, age about 42, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fresh, hair black, side whiskers, eyes dark ; diess, dark brown overcoat, cord trousers, black cloth cap, heavy lace boots. A brickmaker ; native of West- wood, near Dartford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lacy, Chatham. 12— West Mailing ( County).— For fraudu- lently obtaining a black plush ciroular mantle, 24 or 25 in. long in front, lined black twilled silk, trimmed round neck with ruche of black satiu ribbon— A woman, who gave the name of Miss DUNSCOMBE, age about 48, very short, round- shouldered ; dress, black coat, grey dress, black hat with fall. Her modus operandi is to take furnished apart- ments in a village, and send written orders for goods to neighbouring towns, on receipt of which sho decamps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lane, West Mailing. 13— Folkestone ( Borough).— For obtaining 152 yards of carpet by fraud— W. H. CLIMPSON, an upholsterer, late of 15, Coolinge- road, Folke- stone, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slight build, complexion fair, hair, beard, and moustache li^ ht, consumptive appearance, suffers from asthma and frequently wears a respirator. Left Folkestone for Charing Cross on the 30th ult. Supposed accompanied by his wife, age about 30, ( short, thin, complexion pale, hair light; generally wears a light cloth cape and white straw hat), and 2 girls, ages about 7 and 3. Took with them a large rough deal box and a smaller one, painted and grained. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Taylor, Folkestone. cut mark on forehead, left cheek, right arm and wrist, and second finger left hand. A native of Macleley, Stafford. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Higginbofcham, Leigh. 15.— Wigan ( County).— For indecently assault- ing a girl, on 8th inst.— A MAN", nge about 25, height 5 ft. ft or 6 in., stout build, complexion dark, moustache black ; of gentlemanly appearance ; dress, blue suit, black billycjck hat, collar and tie, lace boots. Information to Supt. Brassington, Wigan, 16 — Accrington ( Borouqh).— For larceny ( bailee), 19th inst. — CHARLES LAWRENCE DOYLE, alias EVANS, age 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache black, prominent nose, bas a habit of rubbing his hands together when talking; dresi, black cloth suit, black billycock hat, black tie. Has been an auctioneer's clerk and salesman. Stated he was burn in Iieland, but had been several years in the United States, and only returned a few months ago. Speaks with American accent. Warrant issued. Sentenced at Liverpool, County Assizes, 5th December, 1892, to 3 years penal servitude for house- breaking. Licensed tith March, 1895. S 531. License Holder THOMAS McGUIRE, alias THOMAS MULROY, JAMES REYNOLDS, and JAMES RYLANDS, Oflice No. 47571, age 72, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair grey ( bald), eyes hazel, scar each side of head, left cheek, left of nose, bridge of neck, on lett loin, right forearm, and back of left baud, D on left side. Sentenced at Preston Sessions, 8th April, 1891, to 5 years penal servitude and 5 years police supervision for larceny ( person). Licensed 12th January, 1895. R 89. Information to Chief Constable Holgate, Bolton. 18.— Rochdale ( Borough).— For stealing, 1st inst., a navy- blue serge skirt, trimmed with brown fur about H in. wide; 1 light grey small plaid woollen shawl; 2 purses ( 1 egg- shape, the other book- shape), containing papers, cards, and a photo- graph— ALICE SPENCER, age 23 to 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., well built, complexion sallow, full face, hair dark brown; dress, black alpaca skirt, light blue cotton bodice, boat- shape felt hat, lace boots. Stated she was a lanndress. Information to Chief Constable Buck, Rochdale. NORFOLK. £ 1 REWARD. 21.— Norwich ( City).— For desert, ng his wife and family— CHARLES BAYLIS, age 40, height 5 fc. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair ( bald on top, inclined to curl) light, eyes light grey, scar left eyebrow, burn scar on shoulder, front teeth slightly apart; has a habit of biting his lip and moustache ; generally wears a navy serge or velvet coat. Native of Sheffield ; proprietor of a marionette show. May be found attending fairs in northern or eastern counties. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by John Cross, Esq., Clerk to the Norwich Board of Guardians, for the apprehensioa of Bayhs. Information to Chief Constable Hitcliman, Guild- hall, Norwich. A hawker of sham jewellery, and may have a pedlar's certificate in his possession, issued at Boston, 3rd July, 1894 ; native of Boston. Very talkative. Has been in Africa and America. Warrant issued. LANCASHIRE. 14.— Leigh ( County). — For cruelty to a boy, age 10— JAMES WAGSTAFFE, age 25, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion sallow, hair dark, eyes blue, MERIONETHSHIRE. 20.— Bala ( County).— For stealing, 3rd inst., a " Humber Roadster" safety bicycle, nearly new, No. 12461, plain Dunlop tyres HIGNETT, age 27, height about 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, com- plexion pale, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes brown, prominent mouth ; dress, light tweed knicker suit, light buff gaiters, check cap. Identical with man described in case No. 46, 29th ult. Warrant issued. RENFREWSHIRE. 23. — Paisley ( County). — For embezzling £ 513 17s. 3d.— JOSEPH LAWSON, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, rather long face, hair, whiskers and moustache auburn, eyes blue, slightly round- shouldered and haugs his head when walking, faint scrofula marks on neck under whiskers, & tveral marks of old sores on one leg ; dress, when la= t seen, dark overcoat, dark tweed jacket suit, light lace boots. A boilermalier's cashier ; a native of Bariliead, and speaks with Scotch accent. Has been in America ; absconded 27th February, ami is supposed to have gone to Ireland. Warrant issued. Not to be apprehended out of the United King- dom. Information to the Chief Constable of Renfrew- shire, Paisley. SHROPSHIRE. 24. — LudlOW ( County). — For stealing, at Woofferton, on 29th ult., a frail basket, containing about 50 pair s leather and mohair laces; 4 pairs spectacles; 1 card of studs; 6 lead pencils ; 18 combs; 1 dozen linen buttons; 1 grey Welsh flannel shirt; 1 blue check neckerchief— TWO TRAMPS: 1st, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., hair light, beard sandy, rough voice; diess, dirty drab jacket, dark cloth trousers, with trown patch on left knee, brown cap with two peaks; appearance of a brick- layer's labourer. 2nd, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., FIUDAV AFRIT, 12 ! 8F5 THE POLICE GAZETTE. hftir aud moustache dark brown; dress, eh tbby dark suit., black hard felt hat; appearance of a tailor. SOMERSETSHIRE. 25.— llminster For obtaining food and lodging by false pretences, at Crowkerne, on 2,5th ult.— A woman, who gave the name of Miss SMITH, nge about 45, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion sallow, full, square feature*, hair light brown, walks with crntchep, supposed to have lost a leg; dres.- i, black mackintosh, 1' gbt brown check cape with hood, dark green dre^ s, round b'aek straw hat with plain black band. Warrant issued. Information to Supt Rawlings, Ilminster. 26.— Taunton ( County).— For failing to appear to his bail at the Quarter Sessions, on 2nd January last, charged with stealing a diamond ring on 29th September, 1894—. TAMES LEWIS ROBERTS, age 39, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, bloated face, thick lower lip, hair black, eyes brown ; dress, grey knicker tweed Fuit. Native of Aberdare. Addicted to drink, and an associate of spotting men. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Durham, Taunton. STAFFORDSHIRE. 27.— Brownhills ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences, 25th ult , at Great Wyrley, near Cannock, a safety bicycle, solid tyres ( front red, back grey)- THOMAS WOODMAN" RAY, age 19, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, hair dark, coal mark right cheek, tattoo marks, ring right middle finger, sailor, Staffordshire knot, aud " Y. W. R." on both forea* ms ; dress, light grey suit, blue neckerchief, grey peak cap, with velvet star on front, lace boots. Native of Wednesbury. Warrant issue!. Information to Supt. Barrett, Brownhills. SURREY. 28— Chertsey ( County).— For embezzlement— GEORGE CREGORY. n « e 25, height 5 ft. 4 in , complexion fresh, hair, heavy moustache, and slight eid « - whiskers dark, eyes hazel; dress, pilot jacket, dark vest, black trousers, single peak cap, militia boots. A native of Eton, Backs. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hackman, Chertsey. SUSSEX ( EAST). 29.— Hove ( Town).— For stealing, 6th inst , a dog cart ( s'yli^ h), dark blue body, shafts and wheels picked out red, very high wheels, " Victoria Carriage Company" on caps, steel foot- r? st, brass- mounted whip socket, large plated lamps and brass mounts, blue cushions; a new saddle, bridle and martiugale, plated buckles, bit and stirrnps stamped •• Solid Nickel"; a suit of horse clothing, blue kersey bound with yellow — A man, who gave the name of GEORGE RUSSELL, a horse dealer, age 40, height about 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., well built, complexion fresh, moustache and small side whiskers brown; dress, when last seen, light check coat, blue stripe trouserB, black Oxford hat, brown kid gloves. He was accompanied by a woroai, age about 28, height h ft. 3 or 4 in., light hair, wearing blue- black golf cloak with ho ad, aud brown hat with brown feather. Warrant issued.
