CAUTION. 82.— The attention of Police is directed to a coloured man giving the name of SAMUEL GOB- BING, who is going about the country obtaining money by false pretences. His modus operandi appears to be to call on solicitors, stating that he is a seaman belonging to a ship going up the Manchester Canal, and that he is on his way to London ; also that he has money in a bank at Falkirk, and he usually requests ( as he is a bad scholar) that a letter may be written to the banker asking that a cheque- book may be trans- mitted to him. On the strength of his statements be endeavours to obtain a small advance for present needs, and then decamps. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 89— N Division— H.
