Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 1. Announcements concerning stolen, property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and are alphabetically arranged by counties. j). The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, wilt be wholly responsible for any proceedings mhicrt may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. SPECIAL NOTICE. FUGITIVE OFFENDEKS. A case has come under the notice of the Editor, in which a person whose apprehension was sought in England, and who was described in the POLICE GAZETTE, gave himself up to the Colonial Police. The prosecutor declined to take any further action in the matter, but the case necessitated the dispatch of two telegrams, the cost of which had to be refunded by him. To avoid such expense, the Editor requests that if there is reason to believe that a fugitive oifender is likely to go to the Colonies, and the prosecutor is unwilling to incur any expense with a view to obtain his surrender, a notification be made in the communication sent to this Office to the effect that the offender is not to be arrested beyond the United Kingdom. He represented himself as a foreman to W. E. Constable & Co., Lime Merchants, & c., Mattock Bridge, and gave large orders, upon which he obtained commission. Warrant issued. A conjuror; performs at music halls, & c. He left Farnham for Waterloo on 10th inst., hiving with him a portmanteau ; also a kitchen table and two cane- bottom chairs, which he uses in his performances. Warrant issued. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. 33.— Ramsey ( Coun, ty). — For burglary and forgery, 22nd October last— ARTHUR WILLIAM JONES RIDLINGTON, age 19, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight dark moustache, slight build, walks erect; of smart appearance; clothing and linen marked, " A. LINCOLNSHIRE. 41.— Grantham ( County). — For obtaining money by false pretences— A man, who gave the name of J. H. WILLSON, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair ( turning grey) black, moustache dark ; dress, heavy dark cutaway coat, dark vest, brown cloth trousers, fitting tight at knees, large bell bottoms, with piece let in ; carried a knotted cane. He called upon a farmer representing himself as an agent for a horse- buying company, and bought four horses, stating he would forward cheque in a few days and send for the horses. CHILD MURDER. 83.— Chorley ( County). — On 11th inst., the body of a newly- born male child was found in the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Hoghton, tied up in a white coarse apron with 2 button- holes in band. Supposed to have been in the water about 6 weeks. An inquest was held on 12th inst., when medical evidence showed that the child had had a separate existence, and must have been suffocated either before or after immersion, and a verdict of " Wilful Murder" was returned against some person or persons unknown. On 9th ult., TWO WOMEN were observed on the canal bank near the Navigation Bridge, Blackburn, when a splash was heard, caused by one of the women throwing something into the water. The younger woman, who appeared to be ill, was about 20 to 25 years of age, wearing a hat with straight brim, and was leaning on the arm of the other, who was from £ 0 to 60 years of age, tall and stout, and wore a bonnet and large pattern plaid shawl.
