Part uv/, j rs concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE f /'/ ZETTE, if they are sufficient to enableaction to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Part- « / lars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the artiile in question to be thereby identified. 4. In oil crises where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the fij fmtnt must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 6. Pot traits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engraving* of slulhr. property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of 7s. Gd. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, iffor the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to he inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. A nnouncements of all persons to be apprehended or ofttclen property bear a number, and are alphabetically arranged by counties. g. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted is the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, tcUl be wholly responsible for any proceedings whicA mat/ result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by o covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Neu> Scotland Yard, by cheq- je, crossed " Drummond !( Co.," Post Office Order payable at Parliament- st., Postal Order, or ta Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. SPECIAL^ NOTICE. FUGITIVE OFFENDERS. A caBe has come under the notice of the Editor, in which a person whose apprehension was sought in England, and who was described in the POLICE GAZETTE, gave himself up to the Colonial Police. The prosecutor declined to take any further action in the matter, but the case necessitated the dispatch of two telegrams, the cost of which had to be refunded by him. To avoid such expense, the Editor requests that if there is reason to believe that a fugitive offender is likely to go to the Colonies, and the prosecutor is unwilling to incur any expense with a view to obtain his surrender, a notification be made in the communication sent to this Office to the effect that the offender is not to be arrested beyond the United Kingdom. The necessity for the adoption ot such a course will be apparent from the fact that the POLICE GAZETTE is circulated in the Colonies. SPECIAL NOTICE. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. Messrs. Attention is directed to the Special Notice in Police Gazette of 8th July, 1892, and 24th February, 1893, with respect to this firm. Renewed complaints, recently received, show that the business continues to be conducted in a question- able manner. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. l— Convict Supervision Department. — Woodcut portraits and description of License Holder JOHN WILLIAMS, alias HENRY JINKS, Office No. 46288, whose arrest is sought at Chatham and in this district for horse stealing— Age 44, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown ( turning grey), eyes hazel, two scars right and two back of head, one on right knee, and on left shin, mole near navel, and molo and pockmark bottom of It shoulderblade. Sentenced at Surrey Sessions, 3rd January, 1882, to 20 years penal servi- tude for housebreaking. Licensed 25th April, 1894. A I 388. 2.— c Division.— For obtaining, by a fictitisus cheque, a black cheviot overcoat, silk facings, usual pockets, and a blue serge morning coat suit— JAMES W. STOCKLEY, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair dark, apparently suffering from recent injury to back of right hand; dress, shabby dark clothes, black hard felt hat, or may be wearing the clothes obtained. Of good address. Ho calls upon clergymen, representing that his wife has just died, and obtains money toward the funeral expenses, giving as security a seaman's fictitious advance note. Warrant issued. 7.— R Division. — For forging and uttering a notice of withdrawal and receipt for £ 8 on the Post Office Savings Bank— ALFRED GREEN, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair brown, slight light moustache; dress, light coat and cap, white muffler. A groom. May be found with a circus company. Warrant issued. 8.— T Division.— Woodcut portrait of MARY DUGGAN, alias MADGE DUGGAN, EMMELINE MABEL DUGGAN, EMMELINEJ WEBB, and DEVEREUX, 7th Sec., No. 5734, whose arrest is sought for larceny, and who is described in Case No. 94, 30th ult. 9.— V Division— For stealing £ 200— JOHN HENRY REYNOLDS, age 30, height 6 ft., com- plexion sallow, hair dark, eyes brown, has a peculiar twitching of the eyes when speaking; dress, dark Chesterfield overcoat, pepper- and- salt suit, low shoes, black low felt hat; wearing a gold presentation watch. ARMAGH. 13.— Armagh ( County).— Portrait and descrip- tion of JOHN IJOHERTY, whose apprehension is sought for embezzlement— Age about 29, height 6 ft., complexion dark, hair black, moustache and eyes dark, nail of first finger right hand disfigured from cut, leans forward when walking, swaggering gait; dressed in dark clothes. A commercial traveller. Was seen at Greenock, 2nd ult. May endeavonr'to go abroad. Warrant issued. Information to the District Inspactor, Royal Irish Constabulary, Armagh. BEDFORDSHIRE. 14.— Luton ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, and stealing, 5th inst., from his lodgings, 1 gold brooch, pearl in centre; I ditto, brilliant in centre ; 1 silver crescent brooch, horseshoe and whip and gold stars ; 1 gold watch- chain— HARRY SANDERSON, alias ARTHUR WILLIAMS, and GEORGE HARRIS, age 24, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair and small moustache dark ; dress, black jacket ( cut square), grey mixture trousers, white tie, light brown cloth cap, brown leather boots. Supposed native of Manchester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Tydeman, Luton. BERKSHIRE. 15.— Maidenhead ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 4, by fictitious cheques, 26th and 30th ult.— CHARLES B. GATES, age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache lighter, eyes hazel. Is addicted to drink ; dress, dark navy blue suit, black cloth peak cap with imitation gold star in front. Has been a wine merchant's traveller. Native of Hemel Hampstead, Herts. Stated he was the owner of a steam launch. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Taylor, Maidenhead. BRECONSHIRE. 16. — Crickhowell ( County). — For larceny ( bailee) — STEPHEN WILLOUGHBY, age 26, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., slight build, slightly round- shouldered, complexion fresh, hair light auburn, small light moustache, effeminate features and voice; dress, light plaid suit, light cloth cap, side- spring boots. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 17.— Cambridge ( Borough). — For deserting his wife — PHILIP GOLDMAN, age 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, hair ( curly, bald on top) and slight moustache brown, eyes grey, short- sighted, wears glasses. A travelling draper. A Russian Jew. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Holland, Cam- bridge. CHESHIRE. 18. — Altrincham ( County). — For stealing a melodeon— A. MAN, age 30 to 40, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown ; dress, black cloth overcoat, and dark blue ditto, with velvet collar, blue cloth vest, dark stripe trousers, black peak cap, fawn- colour neckerchief. May be found playing the melodeon in the streets or in public- houses. Information to Supt. Britton, Altrincham. 19.— Middlewich ( County).— For stealing, 17th ult., 8 £ 5 Bank of Eug'and notes, Nos. E/ 99- 05364, London, 25th April, 1894; P/ 85- 06779, Liverpool, 14th March, 1891 ; R/ 26- 34222, Liverpool, 23rd December, 1893; P/ 2- 03261, London, 27th April, 1894; R/ l7- 00918, Manchester, 24th January, 1893 ; R/ 17- 11657, ditto; R/ 18- 33489, Birmingham, 24th May, 1893; E/ 351- 83996, London, 5th June, 1893— WALTER THORNH1LL, age 3height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion pale, h « ir brown, very bright eyes; dress, brown jacket suit. A native of Sandbach. He was secretary to the Sandbach Branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, and absconded with the notes with which ho had been entrusted to pay to a disabled member. May en- deavour to leave the country. Not to be apprehended out of the United Kingdom. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Large, Middlewich. DERBYSHIRE. 20.— Chesterfield [ Borough).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 6th inst — FREDERICK JOHNSON, alias THOMAS GRAHAM, and JOHN GRAHAM, age 36, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, heavy moustache and whiskers ginger, large eyes; wearing dark grey overcoat and black hard hat. He represented himself as a foreman to W. E. Constable & Co., Lime Merchants, & c, Mattock Bridge, and gave large orders, upon which he obtained commission. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Emery, Chester- field. DEVONSHIRE. 21.— Torquay ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 Is. by a worthless cheque, on 29th ult.— JOHN HENRY GREEN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 in. complexion sallow, hair ( wavy), whiskers, and moustache brown, eyes ( very restless) brown; dress, black suit and brown bowler hat. A native of Penicuick. Had in his possession an oak painted tin box about 30 in. long, containing letters, old clothes, & c. Sentenced, 12th ult., to 14 days imprisonment for begging. See Case No. 63, 23rd ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Barbor, Torquay. 22.— Exeter ( City).— For failing to report- Supervisee THOMAS MURPHY, alias MURRAY, KELLY, FINIGAN, and MARTIN, Office No. 47409, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, birthmark left shoulder, scar right eyebrow and on right leg ( bite). Sentenced at Bideford Quarter Sessions, 7th June, 1894, to 6 months hard labour and 4 years police supervision, for larceny. 256. Information to the Chief Constable, Exeter. DORSETSHIRE. 23— Sturminster Newton ( County).— For deserting his wife and family, leaving them charge- able to the Sturminster Union— SAMUEL PHILIP DUFFETT, age 33, height 5 ft. 9 in, complexion and hair dark, eyes hazel, tattooed ring left second finger, scar back of head; dress ( supposed) old brown coat and trousers, dark cap, or may wear a butcher's blue coat. A butcher; tramps the country, and is of drunken liabits. A native of Sturminster Newton. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Burden, Sturminster Newton. 24. — Wimborne ( County). — For larceny — WALTER HUNT, alias T. AMES, age 19 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in, stout build, com- plexion, hair, and eyes dark, talks quickly; dress, brown check suit, and brown cap or black bowler hat. A journeyman butcher; native of East Orchard, Dorset. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marsh, Wimborne. DUMFRIESSHIRE. 25.— Dumfries ( Borough).— For stealing, 5th inst, by pocket- picking, I new yellow leather purse, containing 1 £ 5, 1 £ 1 Scotch notes, and 23s. silver— A WOMAN, age about 45, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in, complexion sallow, hair frizzed in front, FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14, 1894. Was accompanied by a man, who stated he was her son- in- law, age 26, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slight bnild, complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, eyes blue, scrofula or scald scars on neck ( supposed left) ; dress, short blue melton overcoat, grey tweed jacket suit, black hard felt hat; shabby appearance. Both spoke with English accent. Information to Chief Constable Malcolm, Dum- fries. DURHAM. 26.— River Tyne.— Portrait arid description of THOMAS SINCLAIR LEINSTER, whose appre- hension is sought for arson— Age 46 ( looks 55), height 5 ft. 11 in., stout build, complexion ruddy, hair and moustache ( cut short) dark ( dyed), broad square shoulders, walks erect, large flat feet, turns his toes out, cut mark inside right forearm, anchor ( minus stock) tattooed between thumb and forefinger • of one hand. A ship- owner, and holds a master v mariner's certificate, No. 84269. Last seen on 20th ult., at Liverpool- street Station, London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Farmer, River Police Office, South Shields. ESSEX. 27.— Colchester ( County).— For embezzlement — CHARLES SANDLE, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark ; dressed when last seen, as a working baker with dark grey overcoat and black hat. A baker; native of Colchester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ackers, Colchester, or Inspector Creasy, Harwich. 28. — Epping ( County). — On commitment warrant, having been sentenced in his absence to 14 days imprisonment, 16th nit., for deserting liis children— GEORGE THURLOW, a labourer, late of Clay Hill, Enfield, age 41, height 5 ft. 8 in, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel; dress, generally dark overcoat, light sleeve waistcoat, check trousers, peak cap. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 29. — Cheltenham ( County). — For stealing, 19th inst.— 1 lady's gold geneva watch and long gold chain with 1 large and 1 small gold key attached; a crimson morocco leather jewel case, about 12 in. by 9 in. by 6 in., silver key- hole plate, containing— I pair gold earrings, set rubies ; 1 large gold dress ring with large topaz surrounded with pearls; 1 gold ring, set with pearls, rnbies, and emeralds; 1 gold dress ring, set rubies; I old wedding ring ; 2 gold seal rings ; 2 gold plain rings; 2 small gold brooches, set with stones; 1 gold mourning brooch, " In Memoiiam " thereon ; 1 old gold guard; 1 pearl necklace with 4 rows of pearls, gold clasp, ruby centre; 1 pebble brooch, set in gold; 2 silver brooches ( 1 round, 1 ornamental)— A MAN, age 28, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion pale, hair brown, moustache inclined to sandy, speaks slowly and with a Birmingham accent; dress, brown coat, grey bell- bottom trousers, hard bowler hat. A fitter; stated he had worked at Poole. And A WOMAN ( wife of above), age 26, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fair, hair light sandy, eyes dark; dress, blue dress, light water- proof cloak with cape, black straw liafc with red flowers in front, low shoes; is far advanced in pregnancy. Information to Snpt. McRae, Cheltenham. HAMPSHIRE. 30.— Aldershot ( County).— For stealing, 10th inst., a light colour frieze overcoat, deep brown velvet collar, usual pockets, and a dark stripe table- cloth DJALMA, a Frenchman, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, moustache light. A conjuror; performs at music halls, & c. He left Farnham for Waterloo on 10th inst., having with him a portmanteau ; also a kitchen table and two cane- bottom chaiis, which he uses in his performances. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Stephen- son, Aldershot. 31. — Bitterne ( County). — For larceny — W. PASS ( supposed false), age 24 to 26, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion very fair, hair light brown, eyes blue ( rather weak) ; dress, light plaid jacket ( large check), black vest, grey mixture trousers, brown boots, black hard felt hat. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Matthews, Bitterne. HEREFORDSHIRE. 32.— ROSS ( County).— For larceny— GEORGE GUY, alias MORRIS, age 19, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes grey, high cheekbones ; dress, dark suit and cap, white necker chief. A native of Ross. Warrant issued. Information to Snpt. Cope, Ross. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. 33.— Ramsey ( County). — For burglary and forgery, 22nd October last— ARTHUR WILLIAM JONES RIDLINGTON, age 19, height 5 ft. 6 in., slight dark moustache, slight build, walks erect; of smart appearance; clothing and linen marked, " A. W. J. Ridlington." A clerk. Not to be airested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Inspector Rayner, Ramsey. KENT. 34— Chatham ( County).— For stealing £ 40 — GEORGE LAMB, age about 36, height 5 ft. 6 in., thick- set, complexion ruddy, face rather spotted, hair ( turning slightly grey and cut very short) light browD, eyes brown, thin pointed nose, walks with slouching gait, and usually with hands in trousers pockets ; dress, brown tweed jacket and vest, grey mixture trousers, black felt hat, single- breasted blue- black overcoat. A clothing factory storekeeper. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lacy, Chatham.' 35.— Mailing ( County). — For embezzlement— ARTHUR GURR, a butcher, age 22, height 5 ft. 7^ in., complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes blue, scar on forehead ; dress, black jacket and vest, small pattern plaid trousers, black cap. Has friends at Crayford ; is also known at Woolwich and Fulham. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Lane, West Mailing. 36.— Canterbury ( City).— For false pretences — DAVID KING, age about 37, height 5 ft. 4 in., stout build, complexion very fair, hair ( bald on top), side whiskers, and moustache sandy, eyes grey, scar right of neck ( recently lanced) ; dress, dark Scotch tweed suit. Speaks quickly. Has been a school- master. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Farmery, Canter- bury. LANCASHIRE. 37.— Leigh ( County).— For indecent assault a Atherton, 1st inst. — LEWIS JONES, age 20 height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion sallow, hair and small moustache dark, large mouth; dress, black coat and vest, striped trousers, black cloth cap, lace boot3. A collier; native of Denbighshire. Has friends at Yron, Cysyllte and Llangollen. Warrant issued. Information to Snpt. Higginbotham, Leigh. 38.— Rochdale ( County). — For stealing, 5th inst., at Royton, £ 20 10s.— ARTHUR HIRST, age 23, height 5 ft. 4 in., stout build, complexion fresh, round face, hair brown, small light mous- tache, slightly knock- kneed, two cut marks back of head, walks erect; dress, black worsted jacket and vest, old brown trousers, old silk neckerchief, black billycock hat or light cloth cap, lace boots. A factory operative and barber. May endeavour to go to America. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. An inquest was held on 12th inst., when medical evidence showed that the child had had a separate existence, and must have been suffocated either before or after immersion, and a verdict of " Wilful Mmder" was returned against some person or persons unknown. On 9th ult., TWO WOMEN were observed on the canal bank near the Navigation Bridge, Blackburn, when a splash was heard, caused by one of the women throwing something into the water.
