BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 10.— Aylesbury ( County). — For stealing, 18th inst., 1 gentleman's silver lever watch, No. 24267, maker " John Jones, 338, Strand," and a 9- carat gold albert curb chain attached— A man, who gave the name of WILKJNS, Putney, London, age 25, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, . hair ( parted in centre, thin in front) brown, roman nose, tattooed back of both hands ; dress, black coat and vest light striped trousers, black hard felt hat, lace boots. He engaged two rooms for three months, remained one night, and absconded, 18th inst., by 11.43 train from Aylesbury to Baker- street. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Webb, Aylesbury. CHESHIRE. 11. — Birkenhead (. County). — For stealing, 13th inst., at New Brighton, a dark tweed jacket and vest; a pair of blue- and- white stripe trousers, and 9s. 9id.— CLARKE WILSON, a negro, age about 21, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., recently bitten by a lion on back of left hand, which is now bandaged; supposed dressed in the stolen clothing. May seek employment at menageries, Ac., as a lion tamer. Information to Chief Supt. Hindley, County Hall, Birkenhead. 12.— Nantwich ( County).— For stealing, 18th inst., at Crewe, a lady's keeper ring and 17s. 6d. cash— A MAN, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh ( tanned), hair dark brown, eyes brown; dress, new blue serge suit, black hard felt hat, or grey cap, blue- and- white silk tie, turn- down collar, low shoes. He is a good musician, and can play several instruments. Information to Supt. Leah, Nantwich. DORSETSHIRE. 13.— Sturminster ( County).— For stealing a pair of lace boots ( nearly new), J6th inst., at Child Okeford.— TOM MARTIN, alias SMITH, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 inches, rather stout build, complexion dark, full face, hair ( parted in centre and turning grey) dark, clean- shaved; dress, dark clothes, black hard hat, white neckerchief, and the stolen boots ; native of Wiltshire. This man is tramping the country calling at gentlemen's stables, seeking employment as groom. He states he has been a jockey and shows a letter respecting his character. He was traced to Ludwell, Wilt3, 17th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Burden, Sturminster, Newton. DUBLIN ( Metropolitan). 14. — For failinsr to report— Licence Holder JAMES MA GUI RE, alias HUGH PRIM, and JAMES DELANEY, age 57, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion pale, hair grey, eyes haz9l, scars on forehead, wart on chin, right side nose, corner of right fye and right cheek. Sentenced at Dublin, 26th November, 1886, to 7 years penal servitude for housebreaking, and at the tame place on 16th May, 1892, for failing to report when his licence was forfeited. Liberated from Mountjoy Prison on second licence, on 10th ulto. C 95. Information to the Commissioner, Metropolitan Police, Dublin. ESSEX. 15. — Southend ( County.) — For obtaining £ 10 5s. by means of a forged cheque on the London and County Banking Company, Limited, Southend Branch, on 19th inst— GEORGE R. SUTHER- LAND, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion pale, hair ( inclined to curl) and rather heavy moustache dark brown, otherwise clean shaved, eyes brown, rather broad forehead walks quickly with long strides, has had one leg in ured, and is supposed to be wearing a silver plate in knee cap; well dressed, and of gentlemanly appearance. Speaks several languages. Has been a commission agent, and was formerly a ship's steward, supposed on the P. and O. line. Supposed to be a native of Glasgow or Edin- burgh. He left Southend, on 19th inst., with his wife and four children. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawtree, Southend- on- Sea. FLINTSHIRE. 16. — Holywell ( County). — For stealing, 19th inst., from a jeweller's shop at Rhyl— A lady's gold lever watch, No. 29819; a lady's silver geneva watch; and a gold Waltham hunter watch, No. 502810, " R. 744" scratched inside case- A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, slight moustache and imperial, eyes blue or grey ; dress, slate- coloured suit, black hard felt hat with small flat brim. Information to Supt. Hughes, Holywell. HAMPSHIRE. £ 2 REWARD. 17.— Aldershot ( County).— For stealing, 8th inst., a white- grey gelding, aged, about 15" 2 hands, fired inside hock off hind leg, flesh lump on point of off shoulder, slightly chipped each knee, in fair condition ; a waggonette ( old), painted dark green, picked out light green, to carry six inside, no brake attached, and a set of old plated harness— CHAS. WHEATLEY, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, slight brown mous- tache ; is suffering slightly from asthma ; dressed, when seen in Aldershot, on 8th inst., in brown tweed suit and brown hat. A cab driver; supposed native of Totton, near Southampton. He'generally attends race meetings, & c., driving to and from the course. Has friends at Southampton and Totton, and is known at Maidenhead, where his brother formerly resided. Warrant issued. The above reward will be paid by Mr. C. Webster, cab proprietor, Aldershot, to any person giving such information as will lead to the apprehension and conviction of Wheatley, and recovery of the property. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Stephen- son, Aldershot. 18. — Basingstoke ( County).— For stealing a gold watch and chain.— A MAN, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair light brown, slight light moustache, rings tattooed on fingers, and flowers back of bands, speaks with north country accent; dress, black morning coat and vest, stripe trousers, black bowler hat. He takes private lodgings stating that he wants them for three months. He remains a night and then decamps taking anything he can lay hands on. He stated he had been a midshipman, and gave his address as The Laurels, Clapham ( false). Information to Supt. Kinshott, Basingstoke. 19— Southampton ( Borough).— For forgery — MELANCTHON NORMAN, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache black, small side whiskers, eyes hazel, talks quickly; usually dresses in grey knickerbocker suit, and low shoes. Is very fond of cycling and may seek em- ployment in bicycle shops. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Berry, South- ampton. HERTFORDSHIRE. 20.— Hertford ( County).— For absconding from Hertfordshire Reformatory, also stealing, 20th inst., from Hertford Infirmary, a japanned cash- box, about 12 in. long, 6 in. wide, painted black and gold, three compartments, containing five Bank of England £ 5 notes, four of which are dated 6.5.93, and numbered 61515, 61516, 61517, and 61518; £ 10 3s. cash; and a gentleman's gold signet ring— RICHARD GOD- DARD, age 19, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion pale, hair light brown, eyes ( sunken) grey, hollow cheeks, low forehead ; dress, dark blue cloth Glengarry cap, trimmed with broad black braid, surmounted by narrow red braid, drab Derby tweed jacket and vest, buttons same colour as cloth, round roll collar, cord trousers with white bone buttons, blue- and- red striped cotton shirt with collar, bright red tie, grey cotton socks, strong laca boots, nailed diagonally across soles, nearly new; clothing numbered " 443." A native of Folkestone. 21. — Hertford ( County). — For feloniously forging and uttering a cheque for £ 16 10s. 0d., on 21st inst.— JOHN WHATLEY, age 25 to 30, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache and side whiskers inclined to be sandy, eyes blue, speaks rather broadly, hangs his head when talking and walking; dress, brown cloth suit, brown hard felt hat with rather broad brim, lace boots. A gardener; native of Kenilworth, War- wickshire. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Parish, Hertford. 22— St. Albans ( City).— For stealing a lady's 5- stone diamond ring; 1 round gold brooch, set ruby and diamonds in centre ; 1 lady's gold geneva watch, No. 14772, large size, thick outer case, heavily chased, oxydized silver chain attached— A man, who gave the name of WILLIAMSON, age about 27, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, hair ( curled on forehead) and moustache light, supposed purple birthmark or tattoo marks all over right arm; dress, black coat and vest, light check trousers, black felt hat. Stated he came from Leicester. Information to Head Constable Blatch, St. Albans. ISLE OF ELY. 23.— Ely ( County).— For burglary, at Littleport, on 16th inst.— License Holder FRANK CREASEY, alias FRANK WRIGHT, Office No. 414LI, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair red, eyes grey, light brown birthmark on right hip, spare build, supposed clean shaven ; is a tailor, but some- times works as a painter; dress, brown cloth trousers, jacket, and vest, black and brown cloth peaked cap, laced boots, red and white checked shirt, red socks, sometimes wears a white apron, and has a putty knife and chisel in his possession. Sentenced at Ipswich, 23rd February, 1889, to 5 years penal servitude for burglary. Licensed 3rd March, 1893. P 52. Information to Supt. King, Ely. KENT. 24.— Dover ( Borough).— For stealing, 16th inst. 7 pairs light cloth trousers; 6 black diagonal coats and vests ; 3 suits of brown tweed— A man who gave the name of FREDERICK ROSS, age about 35, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion sallow, hair ( curly) and moustache dark brown; dress, blue serge coat, grey trousers with broad dark stripe, black hard felt hat. He took private lodgiDgs on 15th inst., stating he had just left the Army, and had obtained an appoint- ment at Dover Harbour Works, obtained the goods on approval, and left by early train for London, taking the clothing with him. Information to Supt. Sanders, Dover. LANCASHIRE. 25.— Chorley ( County).— For manslaughter— HENRY HOLLAND, alias WADDELOVE, a qnarryman, age 26, height 5 ft. 9 in., stout build, com- plexion sallow, sullen countenance, hair and mous- tache dark brown, eyes dark, sways his shoulders, and inclines his head to the right when walking. Is fond of low company, and when in drink is very quarrelsome. He is the same person as described in Case No. 16, 28th ult., wanted for unlawfully wounding; the man having since died, a verdict of manslaughter has been returned by the Coroner's j ury. Information to Supt. Norris, Chorley. 26.— Leigh ( County).— For larceny— THOMAS WHITE, age 43, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, small dark moustache; dress, dirty tweed jacket, cord trousers and vest, black cloth cap, clogs, one worn at toe. A native of Norton, Cheshire. Generally employed haycutting or thatching. Has a brother living at Northwich. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Higginbotham, Leigh. 27.— Liverpool ( City).— For failing to report- License Holder PETER JONES, alias WILLIAM COLEMAN, Office No. 45083, age 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, slight scar left of forehead, round- shouldered. Sentenced at Liverpool, 17th February, 1888, to 7 years penal servitude for burglary. Licensed 31st ult. A JO 213. MURDER. 34.— Paisley ( Burgh). — For the murder of DAVID BALLINGALL, on 24th ult.— RICHARD SOMERSETSHIRE. 36.— Bath ( City).— For stealing, 15th inst., a model D swift safety bicycle, red cushion tyres, odd rubber pedals, odd cranks, top stay plated, and part of it painted, black plate on machine, horn handles ( one broken)— A YOUTH, age about 18, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fair, rather full face ; dress, light suit and light cap. 37.— Bath ( City).— For stealing,. 15th inst., a bay cob, 6 years, 15 hands, white star on forehead, white heels, large scar on withers ; a gig, yellow wheels, black body ; and a carriage whip HOOPER, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., hair and moustache light brown ; dress, light brown suit, black bowler hat. A dealer in mock jewellery and cloth. Is sup- posed to be accompanied by a woman who has a black eye. Information to Lieut.- Col. Gwyn, Chief Constable, Bath. STAFFORDSHIRE. whose apprehension is sought for stealing £ 183, age 36, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair Sight brown, eyes brown, anchor and yacht tattooed left arm; respectably dressed. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Smith, Town Hall, Manchester. 29.— Bootle ( Borough).— For stealing a pneu- matic safety bicycle, socket steering gear, diamond frame, Stone & Corser's pneumatic tyres, no mud guard or brake, " Royal Hunter " painted on front stay— ALFRED OWENS, age 18, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion sallow, oval face ; dress, dark grey suit, soft cap. STURROCK, a chemist, late of Barony- street, Glasgow, age about 40, height 5 ft. 4 in., slight build, complexion sallow, thin face, hair, whiskers, and moustache ( short and turning: grey) light, slight halt when walking, speaks with Glasgow accent; dress, black corded coat and vest, dark trousers with light stripe, round black felt hat, white collar, dark tie, side- spring boots with plain toes. Native of Forfarshire. JOHN WALKER, a plumber, late of Campbell- street, Gilshochhill, Glasgow, age about 30, height 38. — Leek ( County). — For fraud — License Holder GEORGE ARMSTRONG, alias JOHN THOMAS HOGG, GEORGE DAVIS, JOHN STEVENSON, JOHN McKENZlE, GEORGE HARLAND, and GEORGE FENTON, Office No. 44052, age 64, height 6 ft., complexion fre3h, hair brown ( turning gray, tald), moustache grey, eyes grey, scars right eyebrow, left of upper lip, in right groin, right calf, below each knee, and two on left forearm, brown mark on each breast, mole right shoulder and right arm ; dress, black coat and vest, dark grey trousers, hard black hat. Sentenced at Derby, 11th March, 1889, to 5 years penal servitude for fraud. Licensed 10th Dec., 1892. DP 1171. This man obtained money by falsely representing himself to be an agent for Messrs. Lucas & Sons, Burton- on- Trent, and is described in Case No. 19, 7th ult., and Case No. 45, 28th ult. Information to Supt. DOLLERY ( supposed 30.— Rochdale ( Borough). — For stealing £ 3 and a double gold- platsd watch- guard with compass pendant, on 17th inst. — FRED. JOHNSON { supposed H. WARD), age about 20, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair light, horsey appearance; dressed, when he left Rochdale, in brown check jacket suit, black billycock hat, stand- up collar, white tie, tan shoes ; was wearing the stolen watch- guard. Had with him a brown paper parcel containing a light check suit of clothes. Is supposed to be a native of Milnsbridge, Hudders- • field. He left behind a tin box bearing a label " H. Ward" thereon, also labels to Manchester, Hnddersfield, and Rochdale ; a pair of heavy nailed equare- toed lace boots, such as are worn by farm labourers; also a number of dirty collars, & c. Information to Chief Constable Buck, Rochdale. LINCOLNSHIRE. 31. — Grantham ( County). — For larceny — HENRY MILTON, age 62, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., alight build, hair and side whiskers grey, blind right • eye, slightly round- shouldered ; dress, brown check suit, trousers patched at seat, black hard felt hat, lace boots ; carries a pair of eye glasses attached to cord round neck. Has recently been convicted of larceny at Newark. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Taylor, Grantham. 32.— Spalding ( County).— For obtaining £ 3 15s. by false pretences, on 23rd June last — URIAH PRATT, age 38, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, hair, side whiskers and moustache dark brown, scar centre of forehead; dress, grey overcoat, black coat under, brown check vest and trousers, hard black hat, blucher boots, all old. Occasionally sells horse oils and drugs, and during last few years has been in London, and sold artificial manure. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jarvis, Spalding. RADNORSHIRE. 33.— Knighton ( County). — For an offence against the Criminal Law Amendment Act— JOHN BURT, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 10 in., com- 5 ft. 10 in., complexion dark, full face, hair and heavy moustache black, speaks with Glasgow accent, smart appearance; dress, light check tweed jacket suit, brown hard felt hat, white collar and tie. A native of Fifeshire. They may be found together, and may endeavour to go abroad. Some time ago Sturrock expressed a desire to obtain a situation as dispenser on board a vessel. Warrant issued. It is requested that enquiry be made at shipping offices, outward bound vessels, & c., and any informa- tion obtained immediately communicated to Chief Constable Sutherland, Paisley. ROXBURGHSHIRE. 35.— Jedburgh ( County).— For stealing a silver hunting watch, No. 1419— WILLIAM FOSTER, a pedlar, age about 43, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair light, eyes grey, walks erect and with shuffling gait, owing to an injury to the spine; dress, brown tweed jacket, dark stripe tweed trousers, peak cap. The watch was entrusted to him to get repaired, and it was sold to a broker in Hawick, who, on 17th July last, sold it again. He travels the Border counties, where he is well known, with a yellow tin box, selling cheap jewellery and hardware. A native of Allandale. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Porter, Jedbugh. fictitious), whose apprehension is sought for obtain- ing £ 1 5s. by false pretences, age about 35, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., rather slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark, carries his head forward, and throws his feet out when walking, slightly knock- kneed; dressed, when last seen, in drab cloth suit, hard black hat, and brown leather boots, sometimes wore breeches and leggings; has the appearance of a sporting man. This man took lodgings, representing himself to be F. Dollery, the head jockey in Swatton's stable in Hampshire, and on 2nd ult. he saw a man for whose son he stated he could obtain employment in the stables if 30s. were advanced towards buy- ing the boy a suit of stable clothes. Ultimately £ 1 5s. was paid, and on 6th ult. he left. He was accompanied by a woman, supposed to be his wife, and had with him 3 or 4 dogs. Warrant issued. Information to Capt. SUFFOLK. 40.— Lowestoft ( County).— For stealing, 17th inst., at Beccles, a silver watch ( recovered), and a 9- carat gold long link albert chain— A man, who gave the name of WILLIAM LEWIS, Camberwell- road, London, but supposed identical with MAIT- LAND ROSS ELDRED, age about 25, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair, and moustache light; 2 T H E P O L I C E GAZETTE. Bryning, Old Swan. 62.— Old Trafford ( County).— 12th ult., transit between Urmston and London, a small wooden box containing 1 lady's gold ring, set pale coral and diamonds ; 1 bright gold bangle, fastened with gold plaques, small chain attached ; 1 dead gold bangle, dotted with pin- head points on upper half 1 silver bracelet, set yellow stones, fastens with silver padlock ; 1 small amber heart- shaped brooch, cased with gold at point of heart, for hook of pin 1 old- fashioned gold mourning ring; 1 blue silk belt, yellow metal clasp, set imitation agate ; 1 black silk belt with metal clasp; 1 old- fashioned gold mourning brooch, " In Memory of A. Freestone thereon; 1 silver bracelet formed with rings; pansy safety pin ; 1 pearl card case, lined pink silk, fastens with silver pencil case; 1 pair of gold solitaires in case, lined blue velvet ; 2 small children's bangles, made of silver wire, one with five- cent piece attached. 63.— Old Trafford ( County).— 16th. inst., at Swinton, 1 gentleman's silver English lever watch steel hands, engraved cases, with silver curb albert and locket attached, much worn — Supposed by A TRAMP, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in long dark whiskers, right arm in sling ; clres. s, brown overcoat, dark trousers, black hat. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 64.— Peterborough ( Liberty of).— 8th inst. at Newboro'— A silver English lever watch, No. 8474, maker " Damm, Wisbech," inside on plate, white dial ( cracked), steel chain with broken watch- key at end. Supposed by a tramping labourer, age about 45, height about 5ft. 10 in., whiskers sandy; dress, dark cloth jacket, ( torn), brown cotton cord trousers, black hard billycock hat. Information to Supt. In each case a deposit of 5s. was demanded, upon receipt of which othing further was heard from Curzon. He has also answered advertisements offering work to persons seeking employment as copying clerks, addressing envelopes, & c.
