No Description can be inserted upless an Information shall have boon Sworn; but it is not i* c* amxf to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of jiersons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, • ad by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this aature unless they have the " Warrant in . their possession when making the arrest. •„* Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give tke number it bear*, a• without this Information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castla, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, < kc., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- aud- Cry " no longer necessary. Antrim, Description of GIRVAN or GREER, native place unknown ( says he belongs to Ballynure, county Antrim, which is untrue), who stands charged with having, on the 17th day of July, 1893, in the barony of Lower Toome, parish of Kirkinriola, obtained by false representations the sum of 16.< f. from William M'Cooke, of Ballymena, who keeps a lodging- house:— Leans forward when walking, cut- mark on bridge of nose, dark eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 35 or 40 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a low dark felt hat and dark gray suit; says he is a hay- buyer and bus- driver ; has the appearance of a cattle- dealer ; has been traced as far as Castledawson, county London- derry. Description of a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 20th July, l893, at Killygarry, in the barony of Upper Loughtee, parish of Annageliffe, committed a rape on one Anne Rogers Has fresh cut- marks or scratches on face, believed left side, received in the struggle, large upper lip, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 30 years of age, sandy hair ; wore a soft black hat, black heavy coat, light tweed trowsers; is a labourer. Warrant issued, and in hands of Constabulary at Cavan. Cavan, 27th July, 1893. ( 23807 c.— 15436.) Description of THOMAS DUIGNAN, native of Patron, Ardlogher, county Cavan, who stands charged with having, on the 2nd January, 1893, in the barony of Longhtee Lower, parish of Tomregan, caused the death of Ellen M'Kiernan by blows and kicks u— Gray eyes, short thick nose, sallow com- plexion, thin face, stont active make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 29 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a peak cap, light coat, light tweed trowsers and vest; is a labourer. Killeshandra, 11th Jan. 1898, ( 20586 c.— 8878.) description of WILLIAM HEWITT, Junior ( Mother's surname M'Meikle), native of Drum- connick, Cavan, who stands charged with having, on the 13th December, 1892, in the barony of Upper Longhtee, parish of Urney, stabbed one Moses Rourke with a penknife, and being bound by recognizance to appear at Oavan Petty Sessions on 19th Decem- ber, 1892, has absconded from his bail s— Prominent teeth, square shoulders, active appearance; dark eyes, slightly hooked nose, dark complexion, regular face, slight make. 6 feet 1 inch high, about 28 years of age, dark hair; wore a black hard hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a farmer's son. Description of CHARLES O'HALLORAN, sup- posed native of county Galway, who stands charged with having, on the 29th April, 1893, in the barony of Tulla Upper, parish of Tomgraney, stolen from the dwelling- house of Catherine Murphy, Tomgraney:— A gold cross, about 2 inches long ; a gold ring, set in ruby stones; a heart- shaped medallion, and some white handkerchiefs, marked H. Hogan ; all value for about £ 5 :— Good- looking, handsome face, speaks with an English accent; long nose, fair complexion, round face, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, rather fair hair; wore a light- coloured peak cap, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; smart address; carries a brown walking stick. It is believed be has recently returned from England ; looks like a clerk. Killaloe, 7th May, 1893. ( 22330 c.— 12911.) Description of a WOMAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 12th April, 1893, in the barony pf Bunratty Lower, parish of Bunratty, abandoned a male child, aged about 6 months, whereby the life of said child was endangered:— Very freckled face; blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, long thin tace, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 33 years of age, red hair; wore an old red dress, old gray shawl, no boots; is a tramp. Description of MARY RYAN ( mother's name Mary Guiney), native of Lisnashershane, who, on the lst June, 1893, in the barony of Duhallow, parish of Cullen, left her place of abode and has not since been heard of, and it is feared may have met with foul play :— Blind in left eye, and has a scum on eye- ball, and is almost deaf and dumb, dark eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 3 inches high, about 45 years of age, fair hair; wore a black dress, brown shawl, with which she always covered her face; is a servant. PATRICK LAWLESS ( attempted rape), described in issue of 7th April, not arrested. ( 19718 c.— 7860). Galway. Descriptions of PATRICK FOLON and MICHAEL FLAHERTY, natives of Teeranea, Car- raroe, who stand charged with having, on the 30th July, 1893, in the barony of Moycullen, parish of Kil- lanin, seriously assaulted Peter Mealia, of Teeranea, Gorumna Island, thereby placing his life in danger. 1. Broad mouth, thick lips, no beard, dark eyes, long nose, pale complexion, broad full face, stout make, 6 feet high, about 20 years of age, dark hair; wore a flannel suit ( bawneens) ; is a small farmer and fisher- man. 2. Active appearance, slight beard, never shaved, gray eyes, straight nose, fair complexion, regular face, medium make, 6 feet 1 in, ch high, about 23 years of age, fair hair, has carbuncles on face ; wore a flannel suit ( bawneens); is a small farmer and fisherman. Both men ppeak Irish only. Warrants have been issued. September, 1892, and the 29th June, 1893^ in the barony of Moycullen, parish of Kilcummin, embezzled several moneys, the property of the Oughterard Board of Guardians :— Speaks hurriedly, smooth shaved, with - slight fair moustache, blue eyes, ordinary nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 40 years of age, light brown hair; is a • butcher and poor rate collector. Description of a MAN, name and native place un- known, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd August, 1893, at Leixlip, in the barony of North Salt, parish of Leixlip, stolen a cow, the property of George Soden, which has since been recovered :— Blue or gray eyes, straight nose, pale * complexion, medium make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 45 years of age, dark hair, turning gr^ y, face clean shaved; wore a dark cloth coat, trowsers, and vest; looks like a butler. Description of JOHN JOSEPH BROOKES, alias GEORGE LESTON, native of Newtownbarry, who stands charged with having, on the 13th July, 1893, in the barony of Narragh and Reban West, parish of St. Michael's, stolen an ass and cart, the property of one George Bailey, of Best. The ass and cart has been discovered and restored to owner :— Dark complexion, medium make, 5 feet 7 or £ inches high, about 45 or 50 years of age, dark hair, small black side whiskers and moustache, chin shaved; wore a brown plaid tweed coat, corduroy trowsers, and tweed vest; is a tramp labourer. Description of TWO TRAMPS, names and residences unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 6th day of June, 1893, in the barony of Offaly East, parish of Walterstown, robbed one Martin Byrne of £ 9 15s. :— 1. Dark complexion, stout make, 6 feet high, about 30 years of age, dark hair, short black beard; wore a dark cap, glazed peak, gray coat and trowsers; is a tramp- 2. Sandy complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 35 years of age, sandy hair, bow legged; wore a soft hat, dark short coat, moleskin trowsers; is a tramp. Kildare, 8th June, 1893. Description of a MAN, nnknosvn, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd May, 1893, in the barony of East Offally, parish of Ballysax, attempted to indecently assault one " Violet J. Rogers :— Blotches an face; small gray eyes, large flat nose, shaved face, sligc.; make, 5 feet 6 inches high, brown hair; wore a dark brown coat, trowsers, and vest. Athy, 2nd June. 1893. SARSFIELD BURKE ( assault on the Police), not arrested, Hue- and- Cry, 18th November, 1892. ( 19297 c.— 6972.) King's Description of the undernamed Young Offender, who, on the 1st August, 1893, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School at King's County : — JAMES CARTY, No. 1,615, 16 years of age, 4 feet 10 inches high, medium make, fresh complexion, brown hair, hazel eyes, ordinary nose, regular mouth, oval visage; formerly belonged to Dublin; mother resides at 11, Ash- street, Dublin. The School Dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of :— Moleskin vest, dark gray tweed tunic, trowsers uncertain ( had taken ofi Reformatory trow- sers), Glengarry cap, Blucher boots, No. 1,615. He is likely to go to Dublin. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 3rd August, 1893. Description of the undernamed Young Offender, who, on the 24 th July, 1893, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School at King's County :— JOHN MURRAY, No. 1,538, 16 years of age, 4 feet 11 inches high, medium make, sallow complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, ordinary nose, regular mouth, oval visage ; formerly belonged to' 5 Gloucester- place, North, Dublin; parents reside at same place; stepfather, Joseph Carpenter; abscess mark on right arm. The School Dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Moleskin trowsers and vest, dark tweed tunic, Glengarry cap, Blucher boots, No. 1,538. May hire for a time with a farmer, but is likel eventually to go to Dublin. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest J ustice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 566 H. c.) LACRENCE HICKEY ( robbery from a house', Hue- aud- Cry, 21st March, 1893, not arrested. ( 20142 c— 8615.) Limerick. Description of GEORGE KIRWAN, native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 1st of July, 1893, in the barony of Coonagh, parish of Doon, threatened to shoot Jeremiah Noonan : Gray or blue eyes,' regular nose, fresh complexion, round fu 1 face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 50 years of age; dark hair turning gray ; deficient the third finger of the right hand ; wore a dark tweed coat and vest. Is usually employed in caring evicted tenants' farms ; is an Army Pensioner and Caretaker. A warrant for his arrest has been issued. 30th Jay, 1983. ( 23715 c— 1557 ) JOSEPH O'REILLY ( embezzlement), Hue- and- Cry, 30th May, not arrested. ( 21596 c 11493). WILLIAM FITZGERALD ( charged with murder) Hue- and- Cry, 12th May, has net been arrested. ( 98360 c.— 86735. Longford. Description of JOSEPH BURNS, native of Rathkeal, county Limerick, and a MAN, name and native place unknown, who stand charged with having, on the morning of the 31st July, 1893. in the barony of Shrule, parish of Noughavale, maliciously buried five cocks of hay, the property of Thomas Dowdall, Ballymahon, value for about £ 8, and may have com- mitted offences elsewhere:— 1. Tender gray eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, regular face, medium make, & feet high, about 55 yeftis of age, dark hair turning gray ; low jerry hat, dirk colour, and dark tweed coat; is a tramp tailor. H4 is now on remand in Carrick- on- Shannon. 2. Dark complexion, medium make, 30 years of age, dark hair; is a tramp. No. 1 states this man was in his company on night of 30th inst., and is suspected of having assisted in the burning, and has absconded. Ballymahon, 31st July, 1893. ( 23881 c 1556L; J Londonderry. JAMES M'PEAKE ( serious assault), described in issue of 7th April, not arrested. ( 19864 c 8141). LOUth. Description of A. J. RYAN ( name supposed fictitious), who stands charged with having, on the 24th July, 1893, in the barony of Drogheda, parish of St. Peter's, obtained food and lodging, v^ lue £ 1 13*. 8d., from Catherine Durnen, Drogheda, by fraud and false pretences:— Good looking, wore dark moustache, shaved face, spoke with English accent, full brown eyes, regular nose, sallow complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 35 years of age, black hair; wore a brown hat, dark coat, dark trowsers, and dark vest. He is accompanied by a man and two women. They have been advertising a Gladstone bag and dresses in the Dublin papers for sale, and obtained money from several persons by that means under false pretences. Their descriptions are annexed. Warrant for A. J. Ryan's arrest is in the hands of the District Inspector at Drogheda. Description of Mr. RYAN :— Very delicate looking, spoke with an English accent, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 30 years of age, black hair; wore a dark round hat and dark coat. Description of Mrs. RYAN:— Very stout, good looking, spoke with an English accent, full brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, full face, very stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 28 years of age, brown hair ; wore a light tweed dress. Description of Mrs. RYAN :— Very slight delicate appearance, spoke with an English accent, fair com- plexion, thin face, very slight make, 5 feet 1 inch high, about 27 years of age, fair hair 5 wore a striped blue dress. It is probable these people may be committing similar offences elsewhere. Drogheda, 29th July, 1893. ( 23850 c 15509.) Heath. Description of JOIIN LARISSY ( mother's surname Mary Bennet),' native of Athboy, wip? stands charged with having, on"' the 10th day of July, 1893, in the barony of Lune, parish of Athboy, embezzled the sum of £ 1 15s. 6d. from Edward Russell, baker, » f Athboy, by whom he was employed as driver of bread cart:— Smart active appearance ; dark eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair ; wore a dark frock 9oat, dark tweed trowsers, and vest; is a bread cart- driver. Athboy, 16th July, 1893. ( 23583 c.— 15039.) Description of GERALD FITZGERALD, alias WILLIAM ARMIT, native of county Meath, who stands charged oh remand with having, on the 14th June, 1893, in the barony of Dunboyne, parish of Dunboyne, fraudulently endeavoured to obtain goods and money on a forged cheque, drawn in the name of " Cox & Co., Army Bankers, Charing- cross, London":— Gentlemanly appearance, bald on top of head; gray eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, oval face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 46 years of age, gray hair; wore a dark hard hat, dark coat, tweed trowsers, and dark vest. This man falsely represented himself as a Sergeant- Major of Royal Engineers, quartered at Chatham, and may have committed similar offences elsewhere. Dunshaughlin, 18th June, 1893. Queen's Description of JAMES WHELAN, who stands charged with having, on the 3rd August, 1893, in the barony of Clondonagh, parish TTF Rathdowney, robbed and assaulted on the high road one Johanna Keenan:— Gray eyes, tliin nose, yellowish complexion, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 27 years of age; wore a sleeved waistcoat, dark trowsers and dark vest; is a labourer Warrant issued for his arrest. Description of JAMES BYRNE ( Mother's sur- name Lynch), native of Stradbally, who stands charged with having, in the month of February, 1893, at Strad- bally, in the barony of Stradbally, parish of Strad- bally Hall, feloniously stolen a coachman's livery box coat and footman's livery coat, and being bound by recognizance to stand his trial at Maryborough Quarter Sessions on 13th April, 1893, has absconded from his bails:— No teeth in front of mouth, shaves all his face; gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 40 years of age, fair hair; wore a gray tweed cap, dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a stable boy. Bench Warrant issued for his arrest, and is in the hands of the Sergeant at Stradbally. Ballylinan, 23rd June, 1893. ( 21826 c.—- 14338.) Tipperary. Description of THOMAS MOORE, native of Dublin, who stands charged with having, on the 14th July, 1893, in the barony of Lower Ormond, parish of Modreeny, embezzled the sum of £ 7 from his employer, Goodhand Pattison :— Old scar on finger of right hand, good looking, brown eyes, thin nose, sallow complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, about 18 years of age, black hair, wore a one- peaked cap, black coat,' brown trowsers with a light stripe; is a servant, was 9 months in army. Warrant in hands of Sergeant, at Cloughjordan. Roscrea, 16 th July, 1893. ( 23582 c— 15038). Description of JOHN MALOUGHNEY, native of Curreeney, who stands charged with having, on the night of 1st June, 1893, in the barony of Upper Ormond, parish of Annaghmeadle, attempted to commit a rape on Norah Butler, aged about 35 years:— High- cheek bones, prominent chin, gray or blue eyes, long thin nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, about 30 years of age, dark hair; wore a brown tweed cap, brown tweed coat, light tweed trowsers, and tweed vest; is a servant boy. Warrant for his arrest in the hands of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Templederry. Templemore, 10th June, 1893. THE POLICE GAZETTE, OS HUE- AMD- CBJ, A 1 8 9 3 Tyrone Description of JOHN O'HARA, native place unknovcj, who stands charged with having, on the 18th day of at Ballintrain, in the barony of East f Omagh, parish of Termonmagurk, seriously assaulted Francis Donnelly, by striking him with a spade on the ' top of the head, thereby endangering his life:— Gray j eyes; regular nose, dark complexion, thin face, slight make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 30 or 35 years of age, brown hair; wore a gray frock coat, dark trowsers and vest; is a labourer and rag dealer. Warrant for his arrest in the hands of the R. I. C., at Beragh. Omagh, 19th July, 1893. ( 23684 c— 15217). Description of JOHN M'DERMOTT, alias GATELY, native of Creggs, county Galway, who stands charged with having, on the 8th day of April, 1893, in the barony of Farbill, parish of Killucan, obtained the sum of six pounds sterling from Cornelius Hannan, Esq., j. p., by false pretences; and for whose apprehension a warrant has been issued :— Walks with a heavy long step, careworn appearance, brown eyes, slightly cocked nose, pale complexion, round tace, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, gray hair; was a commercial traveller and shop- keeper. Description of JAMES COFFEY, native of Knockeraville, county Westmeath, who stands charged with having, on the night of 19 th or morning of 20th April, 1893, in the barony of Moyashel and Maghera- dermon, parish of Dysart, stolen 3 sheep and 3 lambs :— Greatly bow- legged, result of being broken when training horses ; gray or blue eyes, regular nose rather sharp, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, about 5 feet 5 inches high, between 26 and 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a gray tight coat, tight fitting trowsers, black woollen cardigan jacket under his coat, heavy brass watch chain, will probably be found about - horse training stables ; is a horse trainer and groom. Description of the undernamed Young Offender, who, on the 7th June, 1893, absconded from the Glencree Reformatory School, at county Wicklow:— RICHARD CORBALLY, 2,484, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches or 5 feet 6 inches high, very stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval or round visage ; formerly belonged to Firhouse, county Dublin; mother resides at Roundtown. The School Dress, all with the Reformatory Stamp, eonsists of:— Moleskin trowsers and corduroy jacket, cloth cap ( Scotch make), and strong nailed boots, No. 2,484. It appears that the boy got a change of clothes at Firhouse, and he is now dressed in a long dark coat, dark trowsers, and old felt hat The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 8th June, 1893. Description of PATRICK DALY, who was con- victed of larceny at Monaghan Assizes, on 9th March, 1889, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and who is now wanted on Warrant in consequence of the licence granted to him on 24th November, 1892, for the unexpired term of said sentence having been revoked :— He is 51 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, light brown hair, beard, whiskers, and moustache, fresh complexion, gray eyes, cut mark on front of forehead, L left side, lost one front tooth, upper jaw, kick mark • on left shin, is a labourer, and was born at Tipperary. Particulars relative to convict THOMAS LOVE, c. 20, convicted at Enniskillen, county Fermanagh, at Quarter Sessions, on 18th November, 1885, for larieny — two cases— and previous conviction, and sentenced to 10 years' penal servitude :— 50 years of age, single, is a stonecutter, born in Drumcoolan, Enniskillen, resided before conviction in Enruskillen' where ' his friends reside; dark brown hair turning gray, brown eyes, black eyebrows turning gray, large noae, small mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, slight make, 5 feet llf inches high ; right leg ulcerated at shin, bald on top of head. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on licence, 23rd May, 1893. He recently left his residence, 14, Bride- street, Dublin, without notifying to the Police, and his present whereabout^ Is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112, sec. 5, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 8th June, 1893. ( 559 H. C.) Particulars relative to convict MICHAEL M'GOLDRICK, o 21, convicted at Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, at Quarter Sessions, on 19th November, 1885, for larceny and previous conviction, and sentenced to ten years' penal servitude:— 60 years of age on conviction, married, is a dealer; born at Enniskillen ; resided before conviction at Enniskillen, where his friends reside; dark brown hair, brown eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, small mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high; ruptured left side, wears a truss, cut- scar on bridge of nose and on upper lip. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, 19th May, 1893, and stated he was going to Sligo. He was arrested on same date at Athlone on a charge of drunkenness, and discharged on condition of at once leaving the town. He has not since reported himself, and his present whereabouts is unknown. ~ In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112, sec. 5, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 31st May, 1893. Particulars relative to English Convict MICHAEL DOODY, No. 294, convicted at Malta, at a Court Martial, on 10th May, 1887, for an attempt to commit sodomy, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 23 years of age on conviction, is a soldier; dark brown hair, gray eyes, 5 feet 7 inches high; two scars on back of head, mark on top of nose, right side, scar on cheek and on first finger, also on knuckle of second finger and on buttock; wore all his beard, which may now be shaved off. -> This man w as released on licence from Portsmouth Prison, 29th October, 1892. He left his residence, 36, Nicholas- street, Dublin, without reporting to police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. Description of JOSEPH M'DONNELL, who was convicted of rape, at the Mayo Assizes, on 10th of July, 1889, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and who is now wanted on Warrant, in consequence of the liceiice granted to him on 1st April, 1893, for the unexpired term of said sentence having been revoked:— He is 26 years old, 5 feet inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose and mouth, pale complexion, oval visage, proportionate make; cut on forehead and on right side of top of head, mole and scar on chin, large scar on right wrist, flesh- mark on left wrist; is a blacksmith, and a native of Claremorris, county Mayo. If pure breds they will have a \/- shaped notch cut out of front of ear; if half- breds top of ear is cut off leaving a peak in centre; if three- quarter breds top of ear also cut off like a swallow tail.
