A' • -*- -* » kst i g^ T All Notices intended for insertion in the Hue- and- Cry are to be transmitted under cover, addressed to the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, Dublin Castle, authenticated by a Separate Communication. No Description can be inserted unless an Information shall have been Sworn; but it is not necessary to forward the Informations to the Inspector- General. . Notices respecting all Felonies and such Misdemeanours as are of an aggravated nature will be inserted. All Descriptions of persons whose apprehension is sought on a charge of Misdemeanour should be accompanied by a statement that a Warrant has been issued, and by the name of the person in whose hands it is. But the Constabulary should remember that they cannot arrest a person charged with an offence of this nature unless they have the Warrant in their possession when making the arrest. %• Should irregularities arise in the delivery of the Hue- and- Cry, it will be necessary to forward one of the covers, or give the number it bears, as without this information the mistake cannot be rectified. Prison and Police Authorities are particularly requested to be good enough to inform the Inspector- General, Royal Irish Constabulary, DuNin Castle, of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, Jic., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Hue- and- Cry " no longer necessary. JOHN M'KINNON, No. 620, 17 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, stout make, fresh complexion, dark red hair, brown eyes, regular nose, regular mouth, round visage; . formerly belonged to Ballymacarett; born at Barrow- in- Furness; parents reside at 151, Mountpottinger- road, Bridge End, Belfast; cut- mark on left cheek. The School Dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Moleskin trowsers and vest, and laced { Blucher boots, No. 25. Uncle James O'Hara lives in Little Patrick- street, Belfast. Clare, Description of CHARLES O'HALLORAN, sup- posed native of county Galway, who stands charged with having, on the 29th April, 1893, in the barony of Tulla Upper, parish of Tomgraney, stolen from the dwelling- house of Catherine Murphy, Tomgraney:— A gold cross, about 2 inches long ; a gold ring, set in ruby stones ; a heart - shaped medallion, and some white handkerchiefs, marked II. Hogan ; all value for about £ 5 :— Good- looking, handsome face, speaks with an English accent; long nose, fair complexion, rourrd face, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 20 years of age, rather fair hair; wore a light- coloured peak cap, gray tweed coat, trowsers, and vest; smart address; carries a brown walking, stick. Description of a WOMAN, name and native place unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 12th April, 1893, in the barony ot Bunratty Lower, parish of Bunratty, abandoned a male child, aged about 6 months, whereby the life of said child was endangered :— Very freckled face ; blue eye?, regular nose, pale complexion, long thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 inches high, about 33 years of age, red hair; wore an old red dress, old gray shawl, no boots; is a tramp. Description of MICHAEL GEOGHEGAN ( mother's surname Geoghegan), native of Oughterard, who stands charged with having, between the 15th September, 1892, and the 29th June, 1893, in the' barony of Moycullen, parish of Kilcummin, embezzled several moneys, the property of the Oughterard Board of Guardians :— Speaks hurriedly, smooth shaved, with slight fair moustache, blue eyes, ordinary nose, fresh completion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, about 40 years of age, light brown hair; is a butcher^ and poor rate collector. Dark complexion, stout make, 6 feet high, about 30 years of age, dark hair, short black beard ; wore & dark cap, glazed peak, gray coat and trowsers 5 is a tramp- 2. Sandy complexion, full face, stout make, 5 feet 5 inches high, about 35 years of age, sandy hair, bow legged; wore a soft hat, dark short coat, moleskin trowsers ; is a tramp. Description" of a MAN, unknown, who stands charged with having, on the 23rd May, 1893, in the barony of East Offally, parish of Ballysax, attempted to indecently assault one Violet J. Description of GERALD FITZGERALD, alias WILLIAM ARMIT, native of county Meath, who stands charged on remand with having, on the 14th June, 1893, in the barony of Dunboyne, parish of Dunboync, fraudulently endeavoured to obtain goods and money on a forged cheque, drawn in the name of " Cox A Co., Army Bankers, Charing- cross, London":— Gentlemanly appearance, bald on top of head; gray eyes, regular nose, florid complexion, oval face, slight make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 46 years of age, gray kair ; wore a dark hard hat, dark coat, tweed trowsers, and dark vest. This man falsely represented himself as a Sergeant- Major of Royal Engineers, quartered at Chatham, and may have committed similar offences elsewhere. x Dunshaughlin, 18th June, 1893. Queen's Description of JAMES BYRNE ( Mother's sur- name Lynch native ol Stradbally, who stands charged with having, in the month of February, 1893, at Strnd- bally, in the barony of Stradbally, parish of Strad- bally Hall, feloniously stolen a coachman's livery box coat and footman's livery coat, and being bound by recognizance to stand his trial at Maryborough Quarter Sessions on 13th April, 1893, has absconded from his bails:— No teeth in front of mouth, shaves all his face ; gray or blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 40 years of age, fnir hair; wore a gray tweed cap. dark coat, trowsers, and vest; is a stable boy. Bench Warrant issued for his arrest, and is in the hands of the Sergeant at Stradbally. Ballylinan, 23rd June, 1893. ( 21826 c 14338.) Roscommon. Description of W. G. SHAW, alias G. W. MEEHAN, native of Portarlington, Queen's county, who stands charged with having, on the 28th May, 1893, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Boyle, received money by false pretences from George M'Guire and from others, between 15th May and 12th June:— Right leg short and right foot deformed; dark brown eyes, drooping aquiline nose, very bronzed complexion, full fat lace, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high, about 38 years of age, d> irk hair, face all shaved but mous- tache ; wore a brown tweed jacket and trowsers, and dark vest; is an itinerant photographer. This man, on tho false representation that he was acting for a Mr. Shiels, photographer, of Dublin, obtained orders for photographs, and got paid for them, which he never supplied; he had not the proper equipments for taking photographs, but merely went through the appearance of taking them. He has been returned for trial in custody to Roscommon Assizes, on 12th prox. He may have been previously convicted. Any communi- cation regarding him to be sent to the District Inspector at Boyle. Description of MARY KENNY, who stands charged with having, on the 14th June, 1893, in the barony of Boyle, parish of Boyle, abandoned her infant child under 2 years of age, whereby its life was endangered:— Gray eyes, flat cocked nose, sallow complexion, short broad face, medium make, about 5 feet high, about 26 or 27 years of age, short black hair, hanging loose behind; wore an old dress, dark colour, and an old blaok shawl having Paisley stripe, strong lact'd- up boots; is a tramp, but looks like a servant. This woman said she was from outside Castlerea, and again from Gort and Williamstown, and that her husband was John Kenny, a gambler at races, < fcc. Warrant in hands of District Inspector, Boyle. Boyle, 14th June, 1893. ( 23034 c— 14095). Tipperary. Description of JOHN MALOUGHNEY, native of Curreeney, who stands charged with having, on the night of 1st June, 1893, in the barony of Upper Ormond, parish of Annaghmeadle, attempted to commit a rape on Norah Butler, aged about 35 years:— High- cheek bones, prominent chin, gray or blue eyes, long thin nose, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 2 or 3 inches high, about 30 years of age. dark hair ; wore a brown tweed cap, brown tweed coat, light tweed trowsers, and tweed vest; is a servant boy. Warrant for his arrest in the hands of the Royal Irish Constabulary at Templederry. Templemore, 10th June, 1893. ( 22940 c— 13940.) 1 escription of WILLIAM DWYER ( mother's surname Hayes), native of Gort- homogue, who stands charged with having, on the 19th day of May, 1893, in the barony of Kilnemanagh Upper, parish of Toem, seriously assaulted James Dwyer, of Gortahamogue, by striking him on the head with a spade, fracturing his skull, thereby placing his life in danger :— May have cut marks on head and face; gray or blue eyes, regular nose, sandy complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 45 or 50 years of age, sandy whiskers and moustache ; wore a low soft black hat, gray frieze coat, and corduroy trowsers ; is a farmer. JOHN RYAN, " PLUNKHAM" ( firing at the person), Hue- and- Cry, 30th May, not arrested. ( 20121 r.— 8G16). WILLIAM BUCKLEY ( stabbing), described in issue of 7tl> April, not arrested. ( 19701 7876). Tyrone JAMES COLLINS alias BEATTY ( robbery of money, < fcc.), Hue- and- Cry, 30th May, not arrested. ( 19869 c.— 8146). PATRICK MEENAN ( firing at the person), Hue- and- Cry, 30th May, not arrested. ( 197^ 1 c 7901). Westmeath. Description of JAMES COFFEY, native of Knockeraville, county Westmeath, who stands charged with having, on the night of 19th or morning of 20th April, 1893, in the barony of Moyashel and Maghera- dermon, parish of Dysart, stolen 3 sheep and 3 lambs :— Greatly bow- legged, result of being broken when training horses ; gray or blue eyes, regular nose rather sharp, fair complexion, thin face, medium make, about 5 feet 5 inches high, between 26 and 30 years of age, fair hair; wore a gray tight coat, tight fitting trowserp, black woollen cardigan jacket under his coat, heavy brass watch chain, will probably be found about horse training stables; is a horse trainer and groom. Warrant for his arrest has been issued and is in the hands of the District Inspector, Mullingar. Mullingar, 5th May, 1983. ( 2231 c 12891.) Wicklow. Description of the undernamed young offender, who, on the 28th June, 1893, absconded from the St. Kevin's Reformatory School at Glencree, county Wicklow:— JAMES DUNNE, 2,428, about 19 years of age, 5 feet high, ordinary make, fair complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, long and straight nose, ordinary inouth, long visage ^ formerly belonged to 3, South Gloucester- street, Dublin ; parents dead; blue dots on arms and hands. The School Dress, all with Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Moleskin trowsers and corduroy jacket, cloth cap ( Scotch make), and strong nailed boots, No. 2,428. His sister, Mrs. Glynn, resides at 45, Mary's- lane, Dublin. This boy's full period of detention will expire on 27th July next, after which date he need not be arrested. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with 10s. 3rd July, 1893. Description of the undernamed Young Offender, who, on the 7th June, 1893, absconded from the j Glencree Reformatory School, at county Wicklow:— I RICHARD CORBALLY, 2,484, about 18 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches or 5 feet 6 inches high, very stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, gray eyes, ordinary nose, ordinary mouth, oval or round visage; formerly belonged to Firhouse, county Dublin; mother resides at Roundtown. The School Dress, all with the Reformatory Stamp, consists of:— Moleskin trowsers and corduroy jacket, cloth cap ( Scotch make), and strong nailed boots, No. 2,484. It appears that the boy got a change of clothes at Firhouse, and he is now dressed in a long dark coat, dark trowsers, and old felt hat. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expenses of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. 8th June, 18° 3. ( 560 HJC.) Young Offender THOMAS PERRY, described in Hue- and- Cry, 30th May, not arrested. ( 543 H. C.) dUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLIOF. 6 Division. Particulars relative to convict THOMAS LOVE, c. 20, convicted at Enniskillen, county Fermanagh, at Quarter Sessions, on 18th November, 1885, for larceny — two cases— and previous conviction, and sentenced to 10 > ears' penal servitude :— 50 years of age, single, is a stonecutter, born in Drumcoolan, Enniskillen, resided before conviction in Enniskillen where his friends reside; dark brown hair turning gray, brown eyes, black eyebrows turning gray, large nose, small mouth, fresh complexion, oval visage, slight make, 5 feet 1 If inches high ; right leg ulcerated at shin, bald on top of head. This man was released from Maryboro' Prison on licence, 23rd May, 1893. He recently left his residence, 14, Bride- street, Dublin, without notifying t< f the Police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 34 & 35 Vic., cap. 112, sec. 5, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 8th June, 1893. ( 559 H. C.) Particulars relative to convict MICHAEL M'GOLDRICK, c 21, convicted at Enniskillen, county Fermanagh, at Quarter Sessions, on 19th November, 1885, for larceny and previous conviction, and sentenced to ten years' penal servitude:— 60 years oP age on conviction, married, is a dealer; born at Enniskillen ; resided before conviction at Enniskillen, where his friends reside; dark brown hair, brown eyes, dark brown eyebrows, small nose, small mouth, sallow complexion, oval visage, stout make, 5 feet 7 inches high; ruptured left side, wears a truss, cut- scar on bridge of nose and on upper lip. This man was released on licence from Maryboro' Prison, 19th May, 1893, and stated he was going to Sligo. He was arrested on same date at Athlone on a charge of drunkenness, and discharged on condition of at once leaving the town. He has not since reported himself, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112, sec. 5, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 31st May, 1893. ( 557 H. C.) Particulars relative to English Convict MICHAEL DOODY, No. 294, convicted at Malta, at a Court Martial, on 10th May, 1887, for an attempt to commit sodomy, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude:— 23 years of age on conviction, is a soldier; dark brown hair, gray eyes, 5 feet 7 inches high; two scars on back of head, mark on top of nose, right side, scar on cheek and on first finger, also on knuckle of second finger and on buttock; wore all his beard, which may now be shaved off. This man was released on licence from Portsmouth Prison, 29th October, 1892. He left his residence, 36, Nicholas- street, Dublin, without reporting to police, and his present whereabouts is unknown. In the event of his arrest he should be dealt with under 34 and 35 Vic., cap. 112, sec. 5, as amended by Penal Servitude Act, 1891. 18th May, 1893. ( 555 H. C.) Description of JOSEPH M'DONNELL, who was convicted of rape, at the Mayo Assizes, on 10th of July, 1889, and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude, and who is now wanted on Warrant, in consequence of the licence granted to him on 1st April, 1893, for the unexpired term of said sentence having been revoked:— He is 26 years old, 5 feet 6^ inches high, brown hair, blue eyes, brown eyebrows, regular nose and mouth, pale complexion, oval visage, proportionate make; cut on forehead and on right side of top of head, mole and scar on chin, large right wrist, flesh- mark on left wrist; is a blar. k_!^ SiTand a native of Claremorris, county Mayo. Description of CHARLES FLUDGATE, who stands charged with stealing, on 89th nit., a horse, saddle, and bridle from Portobello Barracks, Dublin, the property of the Commander- in- Chief of Her Majesty's Forces i— He is 24 years old, 5 feet 4 inches high, medinm make, dark hair and complexion, shaved face except small dark monstache ; when last seen w*%^ gssed in 3. brown jerry hat, a light colonr check lounge suit, and black cloth top eoat; is an Army Reservist and a native of Dublin. Warrant in the bands of the Chief Superintendent, Dublin Castle. ( 523 H. C.) ENGLISH POLICE. • Stirlingshire. Wanted for housebreaking, in Stirling Burgh, on the 17th instant:— A MAN about 25 years of qge, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches in height, fresh complexion, full round face, dark hair, dark moustache, otherwise shaved; stout made; dressed in a black cord coat, dark vest and trowsers, light muffler, and black felt hat. The above- described broke into a villa about 10.15 p. m. on the above date, in company with another man who is in custody, by inserting a knife between the sashes of the window, removing the snib, raising the lower sash, and entering thereby Police Officers are requested to make search and inquiry at all likely places with the view to the apprehension of the above- described ( who can be identified), and if found, to wire the Chief Constable. Paul, Esq., Resident Magistrate, which was either stolen from, or strayed off, the lands of Ardramenout, parish of Ardtramenout, and barony of shilmaliere East, on the 24th day of June, 1893 :— A bay mare pony, about 13 hands high, and aged ; her inane was partially grown, having been previously cut. Clare, Description of the following articles, the property of Catherine Murphy, of Tomgraney, which were stolen from her dwelling- house, Tomgraney, parish of Tom- graney, barony of Tulla Upper, on 29th day of April, 1893:— A gold cross, about 2 inches long; a small gold ring, set in ruby stones; a handsome heart- shaped medallion, in purple velvet and coral stones; a good silk square, brown colour, and 4 white handkerchiefs, marked H. Description of the undermentioned articles, the property of Henry Thompson, which were stolen from his house, at Tomiskey, parish of Mohill, barony of Longford, on night of 1st or morning of 2nd May, 1893, viz.:— A Brussel's carpet, 8 feet by 8 feet, red and yellowish color, small label attached, value for about £ 1 10s.; a tin kettle, holds about 4 quarts; a pot- oven, medium size ; a pot, small size; a large metal pan with handle; a steel tongs, new and bright • two silver tea spoons, hall- marked, no crest; a piese of table oil cloth, 1 by £ yards, white color. Description of JOSEPH RAWLINGS, native of Billericay, Essex, late Bethnal Green, London, wanted at Brentwood, Essex, for stealing a horse, cart, and a § et of harness ( recovered), at South Weald, on the 17th March, 1893 : — Bald top of head, scar left cheek, scar left side of neck, right side large scar inside leg from fracture, red mole spine; 70 years of age, very active of his age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fresh com- plexion, stout build, gray hair, generally dyed very dark, blue bushy eyebrows wore a round hard felt hat and dark clothes.
