CUMBERLAND. 11. — Penrith ( County). — For shopbreaking, 26th inst., and stealing a man's black jacket, with silk thread running down, about ^ in. apart, - white lining with blue- and- red stripes; a fawn- colour peak cap ( peak broken), and a meerschaum cigar holder with ribbed amber mouthpiece— WM. MCDONALD, age 25, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, moustache brown, broad arrow tattooed on one arm ; dressed in stolen jacket and cap and militia trousers. Wa? last seen going in the direction of Ullswater. Belongs to the 4th Battalion Border Regiment. Information to Supt. Russell, Penrith. DERBYSHIRE. 12.— Wirksworth ( County). — For stealing a £ 5 note, on 3rd inst.— ARTHUR LOAKES, alias CUTTS, age 35, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair light brown ( turning grey), clean shaved, eyes grey ( one inclined to be weak), Roman nose, upper front teeth project and are slightly decayed, stoops when walking; dress, brown coarse cloth coat and vest, brown cloth trousers ( much worn), lace boots, black hard felt hat. A native of East Hardwick, near Pontefract. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hollingworth, Wirksworth. ESSEX. MURDER. 13. — Grays ( County). — For the murder of Johanna O'Driscoll, at Aveley on 27th ult.— A MAN, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 9 in., complexion, hair, and thick moustache dark, beard ( on 27th ult.) about a week's growth, rather full face, high cheekbones, has the appearance of having be the Army, and is called " Soldier"; dress, rather long dark coat, cord trousers, old dark cloth cap with peak, handkerchief with spots round neck. Supposed to belong to the East End of London. May be found with pea or fruit pickers. WILLIAM BARNETT, Case No. 20, 16th inst., has been found, and it has been ascertained that he is not the man who was last seen iu the murdered woman's company, on 27th ult. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 14.— Fishponds ( County).— For embezzling £ 6 5s. — MORGAN WILLIAM WILLIAMS, age 22, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes grey; dress, dark grey coat and dark brown trousers, lace boots, light cloth A baker, native of Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Matthews, Fishponds. right cheek ; dresses as a low dealer. Is a licensed hawker and travels with a van. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Reynolds, Hitchcn. vest, cap. ISLE OF ELY. 18.— March ( County).— For stealing, 5th inst., a 3- track tricycle, painted black, red lines, solid rubber tyres, maker's name removed, rear stserer, steering rod has been broken and connected with a socket— FREDERICK POOLE, age about 28, height about 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion very dark, moustache ( cut short) dark, stoops when walking. Is of rather weak intellect. An habitual smoker ; dress, brown cloth suit, cap, and brown seaside shoes. Has a small portmanteau, in which he carries a black coat, grey trousers and vest, and heavy lace boots. A housepainter, and sometimes works for coachbuilders or wheelwrights. He hired the tri cycle for a day, and did not return. Has friends named Brokenshire living in Devonshire or Cornwall. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Burrows, March. KENT. 19.— Maidstone ( County). — For stealing verge watch, No. 33683, maker, " Wm. Birch, Maid- stone," and a double- breasted black monkey jacket, velvet collar, bound black braid— JOHN FRIGHT, alias JOHN MOUNT, and SAILOR JACK, £ tramping labourer, age about 48, height 5 ft. 1\ in. complexion dark, hair dark brown, anchor tattooed back of left hand, and letters ( supposed P. H.) right forearm; dress, dirty twill jacket, blue guernsey cord trousers tied up at knees, heavy lace boots, may be wearing the stolen jacket. Information to Supt. Holman, Maidstone. HAMPSHIRE. 15.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealirg, 9th inst., a Reindeer tricycle, pneumatic tyres, makers, Matthews, Reindeer Cycle Works, Wands- wotth- road. London— A woman, giving the name of MISS GOLDSTEIN ( supposed false), age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 io., complexion fair, hair light brown, cast in one eye ; dress, light or fawn- colour dress, small hat; speaks with strong American accent. Stated her father was a financier in America", and the owner of a tea plantation. She took apartments at an hotel, remained one night, and left without paying. Warra-. t issued. Information to Ch'e; Constable Cosser, Ports- mouth. HERTFORDSHIRE. 16.— Hertford ( County).— For stealing 21st inst. at Welwyn, a violet- coloured silk handker- chief; a pair of men's nailed laca boots, and a pair of white merino pants— A YOUTH, ago 17, height 5 ft. o in , complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, smill enlargment on one eyebrow, supposed left; dress, dark clothes, black hard felt hat. Is wear' ing the stolen boots. A labourer. Informal ion to Supt. Parish, Hertford. 17.— Hitchen ( County). — For failing to sur- render to his bail, 13th ir. st., for encamping on the highway — WILLIAM LAMB, age 45, height 5 ft. 5 in , complexion dark, hair dark browD, left eye haze), bliud rigl. t, scar It ft of forehead, and on LANCASHIRE. 20. — Chorley ( County). — For stealing, 9th inst., an English lever watch, No. 1957, maker, " Thomas Milner, Wigan " ; a metal geneva watch No. 10671; a shell box, lined red sateen, containing £ 6 10J. gold ; a pair of black worsted trousers and vest to match— A WOMAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion sallow, hair black, eyes dark brown; dress, black jersey jacket with two plaits down front, dark green skirt, old grey plaid shawl, old black bonnet. Has been in Chorley Workhouse several times, and by her conversation appears to be well acquainted with Blackburn. Information to Supt. Norris, Chorley. 21. — Manchester ( City). — For failing to report — License Holder RICHARD DOBSON alias LEWIS, and CHEDELOW, Office No. 40246, age 56, height 5 ft. 3£ in., complexion fair, hair dark brown ( turning grey), eyes dark brown, scars centre of forehead and centre and right side chest, crucifix, crossed- flags, and anchor front of right forearm, 2 flags, wreath, and anchor on left arm bracelet left wrist. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 14th October, 1885, to 5 years penal ser vitude and 3 years police supervision for larceny Licensed 30th September, 1890. A M 546. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 8th Oct., 1891, to 12 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision for housebreaking. Supervisee E DWARD SHANNON, alias EDWD LEE, and GEORGE TAYLOR, Office No. 44589, age 26, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scars right side forehead, left cheek, and front of each shin, mole right cheek and each side jaw, on left breast and left loin, blue mark outside right forearm. Sentenced at Man- chester Sessions, 8th October, 1891, to 18 months hard labour and 1 year police supervision for larceny. Supervisee THOMAS WILLIAMS, alias WM. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 21st April, 1892, to 12 months hard labour and 2 years police supervision for larceny. Supervisee JAMES PATTERSON, Office No. 44694, age 29, height 5 ft. 9^ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar each side, centre of fore- head, and right groin, woman inside right forearm. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 21st April, 1892, to 12 months hard labour and 2 years police super- vision for shopbreaking. Supervisee JOHN JONES, alias FRANCIS KILROY, NATTAWAY, and MORGAN, Office No. 44738, age 62, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair brown ( bald), eyes grey, largo scar between eyebrows, 3 scars on right shoulderblade, and 2 inside left and 1 outside right forearm, mole left shoulderblade, doubly ruptured. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 4th February, 1892, to 15 months hard labour and 3 years police super- vision for housebreaking. Supervisee PATRICK DUNN, alias GEORGE WILLIAMS, Office No. 44885, age 35, height 5 ft. in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scars 011 each eyebrow, right side forehead, right cheek, left side chin, centre of chest, outside left forearm, inside left hand, and right wrist, ring 3rd left finger, 4 blue dots outside left forearm. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 16th June, 1892, to 12 months hard labour and 2 years police super- vision for larceny ( person). License Holder ELLEN STEEL, alias ELLEN HAMMOND, Office No. 41943, age 45, height 4 ft. 10^ in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown, mole on right cheek, lost all front upper teeth. Sentenced at Manchester Assizes, 21st January, 1887, to 7 years penal servitude for larceny. Licensed 26th September, 1891. I N 11. License Holder JOHN EGLINGTON, alias RYAN, CORRIE, O'BRIEN, DUROY, McFAGAN, and McFADDON, Office No. 42799, age 45, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar over right and outside corner of left eyebrow, indistinct tattoo marks front of right forearm, woman's head front of left forearm, bracelet and stud back of left wrist, anchor back of right hand. Sentenced at Manchester Sessions, 14th July, 1886, ta 5 years penal servitude and remanet of former sentence for burglary. Licensed 27th April, 1892. T A M 938. LEICESTERSHIRE. 22.— South Wigston ( County).— For stealing a glazier's diamond No. 3, a wooden 2- foot rule, and an iron 2- foot tule— FRED CHESTER, age 40, height 6 ft., complexion swarthy, hair and mous- tache dark brown, eyes hazel, large nose, long features. A tramping joiner; native of Shepshed, Leicestershire. Is accompanied by a woman with red hair, carrying a child about 9 months old. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. OrmistoD, South Wigston. MONTGOMERYSHIRE. 23. — Welshpool ( County). — For inflicting grievous bodily harm, 2nd inst. — WILLIAM DAVIES, ago 22, height 5 ft. 5 in., stout build, complexion sallow, hair bark brown, eyes brown. A farm labourer ; native of Fronfrealle, Meiford. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Crowden, Welshpool. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 24.— Northampton ( Borough).— For failing to report— ALFRED WALKER, alias JAMES ANDERSON, License Holder, Office No. 44826, age 36, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eye3 blue, long scar rt side head, scar It groin, and small mole ou back. Sentenced at Nottingham, 15th July, 1889, to 5 years penal servi- tude for felony. Licensed 31st May last. CIP 463. This man is a notorious thief, and has been sen- tenced to previous terms of penal servitude at- Leicester and Stafford; it is requested that every endeavour may be made to arrest him. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 43— Gloucester ( County). — Sentenced 26th inst., to 6 months imprisonment for ringing the changes — HENRY JOHNSON, alias HENRY SMITH, age 33, height 5 ft. 1 in., stout and mus- cular build; complexion fresh, hair, whiskers and moustache brown, eyes hazel, S2ar about in. long, extending from mouth on right side of face, scar left shoulderblade, large mole bat ween shonlders. " In memory of my dear Maggie " tattooed inside right arm; dress, tweed suit and black bowler hat. Sup- posed previously convicted and to be wanted tlse- where. HERTFORDSHIRE. 44.— Ware ( County).— Committed for trial, at Herts Assizes, for unlawfully wounding— FRED ERICK CHAPMAN, a travelling dealer, age 40 height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair brown eyes hazel, scar over right eyebrow; dres.', brown costermonger suit, lace boots, black hard felt hat. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 49.— E Division.— 6th inst.—( 1) large pearl pear- shaped pendant, 1 large and number of small diamonds set in silver; ( 2) gold bracelet, set 3 rows diamonds and large opal ( broken) surrounded with diamonds; ( 3) pair ear- rings, siDgle- stone diamond, mounted in silver, gold screws; ( 4) gold brooch, set diamonds and sapphires; ( 5) gold brooch, set diamonds and opal rings ; 6 gold keepers, 9- ct., 1 buckle and 1 scratched a/ x inside; 1 gentleman's gold buckle ring, set with one diamond; a number of gentleman's 9 and 18- ct. gold signet rings; 1 gentleman's gold signet riug, set with pearls and hair, some pearls misting; several old- fashioned antique mourning rings; 1 gentleman's gold- plated signet ring, black stone with white mark across; a lady's fancy ring, 15- ct., 2 hands clasped, and set with rubies and other stones to form bunch of flowers in hand ; a gentleman's gold siguet- NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 45.— Northampton ( Borough).—; Sentenced 10th inst., to 6 weeks imprisonment, for collecting charitable contributions by means of a begging letter — JAMES THOMAS WATSON, alia McMURRAY, age 61, height 5 ft. in., comp'exion fresh, hair turning grey. Stated he was an Irish- man. Supposed previously convicted of similar offences. Information to Chief Constable Mardlin, North ampton. SUFFOLK. 46.— Ipswich ( Borough).— Committed for trial at the Assizes, for uttering a forged certiScate of character, with intent to obtain a situation as schoo'- master— GEORGE ARTHUR STEAD, age about 26, height 5 ft. 1J in., weight about 9 stone, com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, hairy chest, body and shoulders, 2 mole spots on body, 2 scars left groin, blue dot and faint mark left fore- arm, 2 large vaccination marks right arm; drese, light tweed coat and vest, check tweed trouseis, black hard felt hat. A native of Aluwick, North- umberland. Stated he was a B. A. of London University, & c. Was convicted at Manchester for stealing pigeons, in August, 1880, and, having been previously con- victed of larceny, was sentenced to 21 days imprison ment and 5 years in a reformatory. On 2nd Octo- ber, 1890, he was convicted at Manchester Sessions, and sentenced to 3 months imprisonment for obtain- ing money by means of a worthless cheque. Is known to have obtained the position of assistant master at the following schools by false representa- tion or by forged testimonals :— Staindrop, Darling- ton ; St. Mary's, Hitchin; Herts Reformatory ; All Saints, Newmarket; Training Ship, " Clio," at Menai Straits ; Guildhall, Bury St. Edmunds ; Dry- brook National School, Gloucester; Somerset In- dustrial Home, Tiverton ; Dorset County Industrial School, Milborne; and Industrial School, Major- streot, Kirkdale- road, Liverpool. Information to Lieut.- Col. Russell, Chief Con- stable, Ipswich, PROPERTY STOLEN. BEDFORDSHIRE. 47.— Bedford ( County).— 17th inst., by house- breaking— 1 lady's gold geneva watch, back dentei ; 1 gentleman's silver geneva watch; 1 lady's small silver- plated chain with imitation violin and false key attached ; 1 long gold- plated chain, thin links; 1 gold collar stud ; 1 fluted silver pen case; 1 silver horseshoe brooch with gold leaf in centre; 1 gold plated link brooch; 1 small shell purse; 1 saiall tortoise- shell handle knife; 1 pair thin silver brace- lets with acorn at end; 1 pair steel scissors; and 1 large door- key. Information to Supt. Qaenby, Bedford. BERKSHIRE. 48.— Windsor ( Borough). — 20th inst., by burglary— A silver geneva watch, engine - turned cases, No. 63121, " E. W." on back; a gold albert chaiD, double- link; 1 pair silver earrings, ball in centre about the size of a shilling, hook missing from one. 3 Information to Chief Constable Armour, Windsor. in centre; ( 6) pair pearl earrings, with gold screws ( 1 pearl loose) ; ( 7) gold bracelet, set topaz with pearl on either side; ( 8) necklace, composed of 3 strings, imitation pearls and diamonds at clasp; ( 9) diamond star, mounted in silver, gold pin for hair; ( 10) gold Venetian brooch, set small diamonds and rubies; ( 11) brooch, Egyptian make; ( 12) red leather purse, metal clasp. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CHESHIRE. £ 5 REWARD. 50— Chester ( City).— 20th inst., a gold key- less centre- seconds hunting lever watch, maker ' J. Williams, Liverpool," monogram " G. S. T." on back. Information to Chief Constable Fenwick, Chester, by whom the above reward will be paid for the ap- prehension and conviction of the thief and recovery of the watch. DERBYSHIRE. 51 .— Derby ( Borough).— 15th inst, from a pawn- broker's shop :— 4 gold lever watches, white dials, one marked E/ x/ x and one V/ s/ x ; 3 large silver verge watches ; 1 lady's silver geneva, white dial, flowered round edge; 2 long gold chains ( 1 curb pattern) ; 3 gold alberts, various patterns ; about 2 doz. gentle- men's silver alberts, curb and other patterns, pen- dants and coins at end; about doz. ladies' silver alberts, various patterns, some with tassels and others with ball pendants ; 9 white metal alberts, pendants set with red and black stones ; abont 2£ doz. ladies' fancy gold dress rings, set with various stones; 6 gold wedding rings, 22- ct. ; 3 Arz. brass wedding ring set with bload stone, dented; a g ntleman'g 18- ct. signet ring, set with blood stone, marked G x/ x with ink ; 1 gentleman's plain gold rirg. crystal in centre; 1 gentleman's 18- ct. mournirg ring, " In Memory of " round it; a number of gentleman's silver rings, plain and buckle patterns, one very heavy band, and one with flowers chased thereon; 1 ivory purse, set with turquoise, silver mounted, lined with blue silk, marked £ 1; about 1 doz. gold lockets, oval, some engraved and others have hair inside, one has cross'and flowers enamelled 1 hereon; 1 large gold locket, oval, 18- ct., photo of gentleman inside ; a number of small gold brooches, antique, set witli pearls and corals, some have tair plaited in centre; a number of silver brooches, various patterns; a number of common gilt brooches; several old- fashioned antique mourniDg brooches, one has an in- scription at back, one has a ring attached; 1 old cameo brooch, gold frame, lady's head, marked G/ x/ x; 1 china brooch, gold frame, boy's head with curls painted thereon; about 1 doz. silver bracelets, some buckle pattern and some engraved; about 2 doz. silver'pencil cases, various patterns ; 1 small gold pencil case, set with turquoise, one stone missing; 1 large gold pencil case, fluted pattern; a number of silver thimbles, one in case, eDgraved ; a quantity of gold and silver sleeve links, various patterns, some coins ; a set of fancy gold studs ( 3), set with pearls, in case ; I pair silver filigree ear- rings, long drops, coloured gold ; a number of pairs of gold and silver ear- rings, various patterns ; 3 or 4 plain silver sugar bows ; 1 meerschaum pipe, round head, amber mouth piece, 2 white metal bands round, in case; 1 wooden pipe in case; a number of foreign gold and silver coins; 1 gold- plated spade ace guinea; 4 jubilee sixpences ( 1887) ; 3 silver coin brooches, 5s., 4s., and 2s. 6d. DORSETSHIRE. 52. — Beaminster ( County). — 27th inst., by housebreaking, at Lyme Regis— 4 silver teaspoons, marked " E. 13." ; G p'. ated teaspoons; 5 egg- spoons ; 1 gravy- spoon; 8 large, and 8 small forks; 3 skewers; fish scoop; 2 ladles; 1 long pickle fork with ivory handle; 1 small pickle fork; 1 plate basket; 1 small umbrella, ivory handle, silver ferrule. Information to Supt. Brooks, Beaminster. HAMPSHIRE. 53— Winchester ( City).— 25th inst, by house- breaking— 1 gold oval- shaped locket, initials K. H. engraved thereon; 1 crystal locket, with baud of gold round it, initials K. H. showing through the crystal, with very small snake pattern chain attached ; 1 gold locket, oval shape, about 2 in. long; 1 flat oval- shaped gold locket, with the miniature of a child with auburn curls painted on ivory inside, made similar to a watch, opens with a spring; 1 round gold locket, containing hair, with small raised knobs on one side, a countess's coronet with initials E.
