Allen, Brentwood. 8.— Grays ( County').— For embezzling £ 113s. 4d. — JOHN WILSON, age about 24, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion very dark, hair and eyes dark, middle finger right hand amputated at second joint and third finger at first joint; dress, Scotch plaid coat and trousers, cloth cap with cloth peak. A baker; supposed native of Rochester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. HEREFORDSHIRE. 9. — Hereford ( County). — For failing to report— Supervisee WM. HINTON, alias THOMAS JONES, Office No. 41504, age 41, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, scar right eyebrow and on each second finger, blue mark right wrist and left elbow, cleft palate, weak knees. Sentenced at Hereford, 23rd January, 1891, to 5 months hard labour and 5 years police supervision for larceny. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Smith, Hereford. KENT. 10. — Gravesend ( Borough). — Portrait and description of GEORGE WRIGHT, alias Captain GORDAN CAMERON, LENNOX CAMERON, and LENNOX GORDAN, whose apprehension is sought for stealing furniture to the value of £ 150, whilst acting as caretaker of several unoccupied furnished houses ; age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, hair dark brown, bald on top of head. A native of Alton, Hants, where his wife, father, and brother now reside. Lately resided at 87, Waterloo- road, London. Is known at the Charity Organization Society, Brighton, and at the Work- men's Rest, Kingston- on- Thames, where he was seen on 28th January last, and at Twickenham, where he was seen on 24th January, and is well known to the police of those districts. He appears to have associated himself a great deal with Christian mission work, and has been a member of the Salvation Army in various towns in which he has been living. Warrant issued. Had with him a brown leather portmanteau. Left behind a black leather Gladstone bag, about 20 in. long, containing collars, shirt, and ties, marked " S. V.," made in Liverpool, a lotion bottle, with " Liverpool Dreg Stores " thereon, and a visiting card in the name of " Thomas Charles ( Charles, Sons & Fox, 3, Mincing- lane, E. C."). LINCOLNSHIRE. 13.— Grantham ( County).— For trespassing in pursuit of game and assaulting a gamekeeper— THOMAS LEE, age 38, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., com- plexion fair, hair and slight moustache light; dress, white smock, moleskin or cord trousers, check neckerchief with shirt collar turned down over it, strong lace boots, cloth cap. A labourer; supposed native of Heckington. Is accompanied by a woman, age about 40, complexion and hair dark ; sometimes wears a jockey cap. She is a good pianist, and plays at public - houses. Left Grantham on 17th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Taylor, Grantham. 14.— Stamford ( County).— For stealing 8brown felt hats, different sizes, maker, " Christy, London," may have " J. Sayers, Hatter, Stamford," inside, on crown— A man who gave the name of BENNETT, age about 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fair, hair brown, whiskers, moustache, and rather long beard, turning grey, Roman nose, sharp features, eyes rather small; dress, fawn- coloured overcoat, with three rows of stitching round cuffs, light trousers, white apron, brown felt or silk hat. A tramping hatter. He travels the country, calls upon the trade, and solicits orders for altering hats into . shape, cleaning and repairing old ones, & c. Has a black twill cotton bag, in which he carries the hats entrusted to him to repair, and an American leather bag, in which he carries his tools. He left Stamford on 24th inst., with the hats, after having offered them for sale. He is very fond of drink, and stays at low beer- houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Clarke, Stamford. 15.— Lincoln ( City).— For deserting his wife and child, leaving them chargeable to the Lincoln Union— WILLIAM JOHN HADDRELL, age 47, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion dark, hair, whiskers, and moustache dark brown ( may now be shaved), wears ear- rings. He has been in the employ of the Railway Company at Lincoln, as foreman platelayer. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Mansell, Lincoln. LINLITHGOWSHIRE. 16. — Linlithgow description of JAMES ( County). — Portrait and MEIKLE, a clerk, whose apprehension is sought for embezzlement, at Armadale— Age 25, height 6 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache dark brown, eyes dark, thin cheeks, hangs his head forward, and stoops slightly when walking, two first fingers of right hand recently severely lacerated and not jet FRIDAY, MARCH 10, 1893. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 17.— Monmouth { County).— For obtaining £ 6 by false pretence.", on 24th ult. MANNING, or MANNINGTON, age 25 to 28, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark brown, no whiskers, eyes dark, carries his head slightly forward ; dress, navy- blue rough cloth over- coat, with velvet collar, blue serge suit, " Chas. Perry, 17, Church- street, Monmouth," on buttons of trousers, linen collar, marked " Jonce," blue tie with white spots, canary- coloured under- vest and pants, black hard howler hat, light lace boots. Sup. posed native of Lancashire. Stated he had come from London, that he had been in an engineer's office, also that he had been abroad for four years. Is likely to be found at some respectable hotel, living rather expensively. This man took lodgings at an hotel, represented that he was in receipt of £ 200 a- year, gave the name of a firm of solicitors in London as reference, and upon these statements obtained the money. Ab- sconded 4th inst., when he had no luggage with hiin. Wariant issued. Information to Capt. Parker, Supt., Monmouth. MONTGOMERYSHIRE. 18.— Newtown { County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— A MAN, age about 24, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., complexion fair, very slight light sandy moustache; dress, dark mixture suit, grey cap, wore spectacles. He calls upon clergymen, and states he is a civil engineer on a bicycle tour through Wales, and through meeting with an accident on his bicycle a few miles away, he had unfortunately lost his purse and all his money. On these representations he obtains the loan of money to wire to his parents for a cheque, leaves a falfce name and address, and absconds. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Hughes, Newtown. SHROPSHIRE. 19. — Whitchurch ( County). — For stealing, 20th inst., an old dark grey overcoat, a pair of light lace bootswithprotectors on toes, and a black hard felt hat— A man, who gave the name of GEORGE HARVEY, alias DAVIES, age 20 to 22, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., cut mark on upper lip, lost 2 or 3 upper front teeth ; dress, black cloth coat, dirty moleskin trousers, black cap. Has worked as a boatman on the Shropshire Union Canal, and may be found in the company of boatmen. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Edwards, Whitchurch. SOMERSETSHIRE. 20.— Bath ( City).— For obtaining £ 3 15s. 6d., by false pretcnces, on 15th ult.— C. J. ROSE ( sup- posed false), age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache davk, full faca, talks quickly, slight impediment in speech ; dress, plaid mackintosh with cape, brown plaid suit, black hard felt hat with flat top; carries a leather hand- bag and 2 leather cases. His modus operandi is to call upon shopkeepers, representing himself to be the proprietor of " Rose's Marking Ink and Times Cement, 56, St. Peter's- street, Mile End, London" ( false), and stating that he intends to appoint paid agents in every town, thereby inducing tradesmen to buy at a low price a large quantity of ink, which is afterwards found to be quite worthless. Warrant issued. Information to Lieut.- Colonel Gwyn, Chief Constable, Bath. SUFFOLK. 21. — Halesworth ( County). — For obtaining money by fraud— A in an, who gave the name of T. WILSON, of 5, Tintan- terrace, St. John's, Ipswich ; age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair brown, whiskers and moustache red, blotchy face, dirty appearance. He is a travelling photographer, and in the town at which he puts up hire3 a pony and trap, with which he goes from place to place pretending to take photographs, for which he obtains payment in advance, promising to forward the cards in a few days but fails to do so. Is accompanied by a boy. Was last heard of in Norfolk. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Andrews, Halesworth. 22.— Ipswich ( Borough).— GEORGE FORBES, Case No. 20,13th January last, not yet apprehended. Warrant issued. Information to Lt.- Col. Russell, Chief Constable, Ipswich. SURREY. £ 5 REWARD. 23.— Reigate ( Borough). — For housebreaking, 12th inst., and stealing— 1 coral necklace, composed of 3 rows, gold clasp; 1 lady's silver geneva watch, No. 50987, maker " Bennett, London"; 1 silver albert, curb pattern; 1 scarf pin, set imitation diamond ; 1 oblong scarf pin, set turquoise ; 1 scarf pin, shape of a buckle, set turquoise ; 1 bronze scarf pin, fox's head, red eyes; 1 circular silver brooch with raised centre ; 1 diamond- shape silver brooch, set green stones ; 1 silver brooch with glass centre; 1 brown speckled tweed jacket— TWO MEN: ( 1st), age about 26, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fair, believed to have a very small light moustache; dress, white slop jacket, moleskin or dirty cord trousers, heavy nailed boots, brown cloth peak cap, worn at back of head ; ( 2nd), age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., stout build, black whiskers; dress, dark coat, moleskin or dirty cord trousers, heavy nailed boots. One of the men is believed to have several tattoo marks on wrist. Both had the appearance of navvies, and will probably seek employment where new drainage or other works are being carried on. These men were begging in the neighbourhood, and were traced to Banstead and Sutton the same evening. The above reward will be paid by Miss Wilkinson, Redhill, for the apprehension and conviction of the thieves, and recovery of the property. Information to Head Constable Morant, Redhill. SUSSEX ( EAST). 24.— Brighton ( Borough). — For stealing the sum of £ 4 — JOSEPH JEWELL, age 17 ( looks younger), height 5 ft., complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes dark brown, 2 front teeth in upper jaw wide apart; dress, long black overcoat, dark coat and vest, brown cord trousers, black cap. A native of Brighton. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Terry, Brighton. WARWICKSHIRE. 25.— Aston ( County). — For stealing bicycles which were advertised for sale on trial— WALTER FOSTER, age 23 or 24, height about 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, no whiskers or moustache, eyes brown, scar over left eyebrow, two moles on left cheek, is supposed to stammer ; dress, dark blue suit, brown soft liat, or black hard billy- cock hat. A native of Lewisham. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Walker, Aston. WORCESTERSHIRE. 26.— Stourbridge ( County).— For obtaining a revolver, watch, bicycles, & c., by fraud, through the " Bazaar, Exchange and Mart "— A man who gave the name of GEORGE PHILPS, age about 26, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion sallow, hair and slight moustache dark, full round face, of good address; dress, blue serge suit, lace boots, black hard felt hat. This man engaged lodgings at Bewdley, on 20th February, which he said he would occupy on 27th. On 28th he arrived, when he received a large number of parcels, 2 bicycles, & c., and left on 1st inst., stating he was going to Bristol. At that time he was riding one of the bicycles. YORKSHIRE ( EAST RIDING). 27.— Hull ( Borough). — For stealing furniture ( recovered), between 1st Sept., 1892, and 20th ult. — CHARLES HENRY BLACKBURN, age about 32, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, respectable appearance ; dress, long dark overcoat, dark suit, tourist hat. An oil miller; native of Driffield. Was employed about 12 months since as goods guard on the Caledonian Railway, Hamilton, near Glasgow, and bas recently been a publican in Hull— ELIZABETH BLACK- BURN, age about 30, height 5 ft., complexion very pale, thin face, hair light. Warrant issued. 28.— Hull ( Borough)— For stealing: a silver lever watch, No. 6953— WILLIAM ARTHUR, age about 24, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair ( curly) and eyes dark brown; dress, black jacket and vest, blue serge tronsers. A ship's steward, late of 55, Ro.- amond- sireet, Hull. Warrant issued. 29.— Hull ( Borough).— For stealing harness — JAMES DUNLAYEY, an Irishman, age 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache, military appearance ; dressed in ordinary labourer's clothes and cap. A bricklayer's labourer: late of Middle- street, Hull. May have joined the Army or Militia. Warrant issued. Information to Capt. Gurney, Chief Constable Hull. YORKSHIRE ( WEST RIDING). 30.— Ingleton ( County).— For st aling, at Aust- wick, on 12th inst.— A grey mare, aged, 16 hands, well bred, lame on off fore- leg, cross- cut tail; an old riding bridle - with snaffle bit; and an old riding saddle, repaired on flaps— A MAN, age 28, height 5 ft., hair and moustache dark, no whiskers speaks with a strong Lancashiie accent; dress, black jacket, check tweed waistcoat, fustian trousers, lace boots. A groom or farm labourer. Information to Supt. Gunn, Ingleton, near Kirkby Lonsdale. PERSONS IN CUSTODY. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 31— Ch esham ( County).— Committed for trial at the next Assizes, for arson— GEORGE BROWN, a tramping labourer, age 50, height o ft. 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, whiskers and moustache sandy, oval face, pockpitted, prominent nose, hair thin in front, second finger left hand has been injured ; dress, old blue serge jacket with brown jacket and guernsey underneath, cord trousers, washed light, balmoral boots, dark brown cloth cap with peak. Supposed native of Deptford or Wool- wich. Was convicted at Amersham, in January, 1887, and sentenced to 14 days imprisonment for re- fusing to work in Union ; at the Central Criminal Court, in April, 1887, to 5 years penal servitude for arson ; at Godstone, in September, 1891, to 14 days imprisonment as a refractory pauper ; at Royston, in October, 1891, to 10 days imprisonment for refusing to work in Union; at Lowestoft, in December, 1892, to 7 days as a rogue and vagabond ; and at Hertford, in February last, to 21 days imprisonmeut for re- fusing to work in Union. He boasts of having been in many prisons in England. Information to Inspector Summers, Chesham. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 32.— Arrington ( County).— Committed for trial at the next Quarter Sessions for housebreaking, at Steeple Morden, on 9th inst.— JAMES WATSON, age 42, heigh. 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, rose, shamrock and thistle in flower- pot tattooed on right forearm, coat of arms on left forearm, cut scar over right eye; dress, black pilot jacket, moleskin trousers, white neckerchief, black hard felt hat. A native of Belfast. States he was discharged from the 10th Hussars in 1S81. Information to Supt. Wilderspin, Arrington. ESSEX. 33.— Brentwood ( County).— Sentenced to one months imprisonment for making a false statement when enlisting in the Army— JOHN CALLAGHAN ( supposed false), age 19, height 6 ft., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scar on right and centre of top lip, violet tattooed outside right forearm, " J. Was sentenced to six months imprison- ment at Lewes Quarter Sessions, in 1892, for house breaking and is supposed to be wanted for similar offences. Information to Supt. Al'en, Brentwood. 34.— Grays ( County).— Committed for trial at the Essex Quarter Sessions, 5th prox., for breaking into a railway station with intent to commit felony — GEORGE* BOWDEN, age 30, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar right elbow, Britannia and " Minnie Gordon" in floral wreath tattooed left arm, two clasped hands tattooed back of left wrist, two scars on chin. A native of Liverpool. Was lately employed as engine- driver at Purfleet Paper Mills. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. 35.— Souther d ( County).— Committed for trial at the next Essex Assizes at Chelmsford, for burglary— JOHN HAMMOND, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair black, eyes brown, three cuts on back of head, cut centre of breast and on right arm near armpit inside, three blue dots or marks tattooed on back of right forearm, " O. Described himself as a hay and straw dealer. 3rd, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 10 in. to 6 ft., com- plexion fresh, heavy light brown moustache of a bristly description, stands out from his lip, and looks as if it were clipped, sunken eyes, walks erect, supposed to be slightly pockpitted ; dress, black coat, mixture coloured trousers, black felt hat, bright red necktie with pin, wore a high collar, showing stud behind ; carried a light gorse walking- stick. These men were dressed in better clothes than their appearance and class of life seemed to warrant, and wore linen collars and cuffs, brown kid gloves and lace boots with broad soles.. Nos. 2 and. 3 were on the up- platform at Crewe Railway Station, on Wednesday evening, shortly after 7 o'clock, apparently watching the arrival of the trains from Manchester or Liverpool, for London. Entrance was effected by placing a ladder to one of the bedroom windows.
