In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given and cite exact conditions be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15$. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of anofficer of not less rank than Superintendent; an< l, ifthe name of such person berequiredto be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, Vie requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons tobe apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, a,. dart alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted x% the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings whicA mat/ reiult from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forxarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on ont side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. Carried a small black bag containing clock cleaners' tools. This man calls at houses and represents himself to be a clock cleaner, and states he has been sent by a watchmaker residing in a neighbouring town to repair clocks. ( without shoes), complexion fresh, hair black or very dark brown, eyes hazel, proportionate build, muscular, two scar3 on back and three on top of hoad, one on right temple, large scar on right of chin, horse- shoe and hammer tattooed on right forearm, burn mark left forearm, scar on left thumb. When last seen, his moustache was shaved off, and he was dressed, in short single- breasted dust coat, light grey tweed vest, dark tweed tight- fitting trousers, grey tweed cap with peak, lace boots. A blacksmith and cart- wright; native of Forfarshire. He is an expert housebreaker, uses false keys and picklocks, and generally assaults Police when apprehended. Warrant issued. KENT. 22.— Chatham ( County).— For stealing, 13th inst., a bay gelding, 9 years, 16 hands, muscle of right leg swollen in shape of letter A, piece of skin off right side of tail; a chocolate coloured dog cart, picked out red, brown cloth cushions, American- cloth underneath, left stop on shaft made of steel, right stop of brass, a set of plain silver mounted harness, off blinker slightly bent.— A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., stout build, very red face, high cheek bones, hair, whiskers and mous- tache dark brown; dress, grey Scotch tweed suit, black hard felt hat. Coppinger, Chatham. 23.— Cranbrook ( County).— For housebreak- ing, 12th inst., at Frittenden, and stealing a silver chronograph watch and albert ( recovered) ; 1 metal albert chain; 1 meerschaum pipe in dark red case; 1 brown velvet tobacco pouch, " Tobacco " in silk on front, with gutta percha lining ; and a suit of light- brown clothes— A man, who gave the name of JOHN CREWSON, age 30, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair brown, slight light moustache; dress, light coat and vest ( supposed those stolen), black cloth cap with peak. The watch and chain were found pledged at Ashford. Information to Supt. Bartlett, Cranbrook. LANCASHIRE. 24. — Bootle ( County). — For shooting and killing a man with a revolver, at Fazakerley, 2nd inst.— TWO YOUTHS, ( 1st) age about 15, tall, peculiar long shaped head, thin face ; dress, brown- and- black spotted overcoat with cape, black trousers, black billycock hat, lace boot3. ( 2nd) age about 13, round red face, not so tall as the other youth ; dress, black jacket, black- and- white jacket under, which he had buttoned, black- and- white plaid scarf, round black cap. These youths were seen shortly before the occurrence in the neighbourhood where the shot was fired, the older boy having a revolver in his possession, and were seen running away after the report was heard. The older boy said they had come 100 miles, and the younger one stated they had come from Bolton. Both spoke with a broad dialect. The younger boy had £ 10 in his possession and it is very probable that they have absconded with money belonging to their parents or employers. They were seen on 2nd inst., when they were inquiring their way to Wales. Information to Supt. A tramping labourer. Has been employed at Bil- lingsley brickyard for about five weeks. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Walters, Bridgnorth. 33.— Ludlow ( County).— For stealing5 ducks, at Burford, 15th inst.— TWO MEN": ( 1st), age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., moustache and side whiskers sandy; dress, grey jacket, light cord trousers, which appeared soiled with clay, grey cloth cap, two peaks and flaps tied at top, white neckerchief, strong lace boots. (' 2nd), age 30 to 33, height 5 ft. 8 in., moustache dark, whiskers of a few days' growth; dress, black worsted frock coat, dark cord trousers, brown hard hat, blue neckerchief with white spots. These men sometimes get their living by drawing pictures on the pavement, or they may seek employ- ment at farm- houses. Information to Supt. Hayward, Ludlow. 34. — Wellington ( County). — For larceny ( bailee) — EDWARD WESTON, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slender build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache ( small) black, eyes dark brown. A shoemaker; supposed to be a native of Bilston. This man took a house and hired furniture; he stayed about 3 weeks, and absconded ou 22nd ult., after having pawned part of the furniture. SOMERSETSHIRE. 35.— Weston- super- Mare ( County). — For obtaining a diamond ring, value £ 48, by false pre- tences— CAPTAIN WILSON, alias WATSON, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion dark, hair black ( supposed dyed), heavy black moustache, wore blue goggle spectacles; spoke with Lancashire accent; dress, light suit, and straw hat. Was accompanied by a woman, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair brown, eyes blue; well dressed; and a boy, age 5. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Balkwill, Weston- super- Mare. height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, thin face, hair black, slight moustache and side whiskers dark, eyes dark; dress, black overcoat with a& trachan collar, black diagonal coat and vest, light grey stripe trousers, hard felt hat, email rim, low crown, lace boots. An Irishman, and (- peaks with Irish accent. Served in the 3rd Bat. Grenadier Guards, from June, 1879, to September, 1885. He left Gnildford for Waterloo, 13th inst., accom- panied by Mary Bowser, age 31, height 5 ft. 7 in , complexion dark, ejes grey; dress, plain black dress, black cape, drawn in at back, ribbons in front, black silk stripe running through material, black hat, who carried a baby 3 months old. A Scotsman. Has been a steward on board large steamers and private yachts. Not to be apprehended out of the United Kingdom. Warrant issued. 42. — Hastings ( Borough). — For uttering a forged cheque for £ 11 8<., oa the Cheltenham Branch of the Capital aid Counties Bank, 12th inst. — A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 10 in., com- plexion, hair, moustache, an 1 eyes dirk, no whiskers, wore eyeglasses; ( Ires?, short dark coat, light trousers, round brown light felt hat. His modus operandi is to cash the cheque in the name of some medical man known in the district. LINCOLNSHIRE. 27.— Lindsey ( County).— For stealing 6s. 6d., at Sturton, 9th inst.— A man who gave the name of THOMAS SEGER, age 46, height 5 ft. 4 in., thin features, hair dark brown, turning grey, dark heavy moustache, turning grey, otherwise clean shaved, of clean respectable appearance; dress, black coat and vest, brown striped trousers, black hard hat, pink check collar, blue tie with red spots, lace boots, wore a silver double chain, small pattern, stretched across his waistcoat several times. Stated he was engaged to repair telegraph wires. He sometimes takes private lodgings and leaves without paying his bill. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Dain, Lindsey. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. £ 20 REWARD. 72.— Cirencester ( County).— Since 26th April last— An unique silver gilt caudle cup, about 7 in. high, 10 in. wide, weight about 30 oz., " N." ( old English capital) inside shield, letters W. and H. joined, and a star inside heart being the date letters for 1670, and the private mark of the maker. These marks are in a group of four marks stamped on the bottom of the cup, the other two marks being the usual lion passant and the leopard's crowned head used upon old English silver.
