All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE EDITOB OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD. LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15j. per portrait, and of Is. Gd. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature ofanofficer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to ' he inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank • than Inspector, or analogous thereto. E. E G- XJXJ- A. TX02ST S . 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, a,. d art > alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes part iculars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZBTTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings whic/ i may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond <$• Co.," Post Office Order payable at Cnaring Cross, Postal Order, or i » Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. Cities and Boroughs therein, arranged in strict alphabetical order. 2.— Any additional copies of the GAZETTE beyond the number at present supplied will be forwarded on application in the form set forth in circular of the 7th of November, 1883. 3.— It is particularly requested that any com- plaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity in the date of delivery of the POLICE GAZETTE, may be at once notified to the Editor. ( C) < d> The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points- fa) The amount of the reward. ( 6) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The person by whom it will be paid. ( d) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. S. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to pi operty stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holdi g out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to tria or without enquiry. NOTE.— There are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Polico Force at which Notices can be posted. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1-— C. I. Department,— For fraud and em- bezzlement committed in Germany— WILHELM HABNSLER, age 34, height 5 ft. 5 in., slim build, complexion healthy, full oval face, hair and mous- tache reddish, slightly curved nose, assured de- meanour ; dress, grey jacket, light striped trousers, yellowish straw hat. A leading socialist; native of Karlsruhe, and late of Mannheim, Germany. 2. — C Division. — Woodcut portrait and description of HARRY BEAYIS LEICESTER, late of 37, Conneford- road, Brockley, whose appre- hension is sought for embezzling £ 980; age 33, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair ( straight and parted at side), and piercing eyes dark ; dresses well, and is of gentlemanly appearance. Is now supposed to be shaved on chin. Warrant issued. 3— E Division.— For obtaining £ 4 Is. 6d , by fraud— FREDERICK HENRY JAMB LIN, age 32, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion pale, hair, small side whiskers, and moustache black, large eyes; dress, light overcoat, black cutaway coat, white waistcoat, light trousers, high hat. A solicitor; native of Wales. His father ( a photographer) resides in North Wales. Warrant issued. 4. — N Division. — For larceny ( trick) — HARRY MANNING, age 16, height 5 ft. 1 in., stout build, complexion fair, hair dark brown, eyes hazel; dress, black jacket and vest, grey trousers, check cap, lace boots. A native of London. May be found at the hop fields in Kent. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CITY OF LONDON. 5.— For stealing fur skins, valne £ 110— LUDWIG HENRI STEHR, a German, late of 48, Bevers- brook- road, Holloway, London,' age 40, height 5 ft. 8 in., hair very dark, turning grey, black heavy moustache and whiskers, beard trimmed to a point, consumptive looking, carries his head forward; dress, light suit, soft felt hat. BEDFORDSHIRE. 6.— Bedford ( Borough). — For stealing, 30th ult.— A Premier tricycle, 36- in. side wheels, 26 in. front wheel, band brake, centre steering, plain pedals and bearing axle, transfer on front partly rubbed off.— A MAN, age 26 to 30, height 5ft. 6 in., complexion and moustache dark, impediment LH speech; dress, dark grey mixture suit, mourning band round one arm of coat, straw hat with coloured band. BERKSHIRE. 7.— Maidenhead ( Borough). — For carnally knowing a girl under the age of 16— A man known as " YORKEY," age 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fair, hair ( very short) light brown, eyes hazel, scars back of head and neck; dress, dark grey jacket and trousers, black- and- white cloth cap. Supposed gone to Herefordshire, hopping. A native of Watlington, Oxon. Warrant issued. . Information to Supt. Taylor. Maidenhead. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 8.— ISI e Of Ely ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 15th ult.— WALTER GRAHAM ( supposed false), age about 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 9 in., full face, hair brown, rather heavy moustache, mili- tary appearance, and of good address ; dress, brown or grey overcoat, brown check cloth trousers which he generally wears turned up at bottoms, black bowler hat, sometimes wears a light coloured cap. He calls upon hotel keepers, corn and hay merchants, represents himself as agent in advance for Lord George Sanger's Circus ( false), and makes contracts for the supply of hay, corn, A c. States that the circus will visit the town in about eight days, draws his commission, and shortly afterwards decamps. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hindley, Birkenhead. 11.— Runcorn ( County).— For stealing, 20th ult., 3 bullocks— MICHAEL ROGERS, alias THOMAS MICHAEL ROGERSON, age 42, height 5 ft. 4T in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, oval face, impediment in speech through injury to upper lip and roof of mouth. A cattle dealer ; native of Galway. Was sentenced at Salford Quarter Sessions, in 1878, to 4 months imprisonment, in the name of Michael Rogers, for stealing 6 bullocks ; and to 12 months, at Knutsford, in 1878, in the name of Thomas Michael Rogcrson, for stealing a heifer. ( See Case No. 10, 2nd inst.) Warrant issued. Photograph may be obtained on application. Information to Supt. G." ; 1 pair of silver sugar- tongs with cutters ; 1 fluted silver sugai- basin, gilt mounted, medium size; 1 small silver cream jug; 2 electro- plated walnut pickers; 4 electro- plated table spoons; 2 electro- plated preserve spoons; 12 electro- plated dessert spoons ; 2 electro- plated gravy spoons ; some electro- plated forks, large and small ; 1 electro- plated meat skewer; 1 electro- plated small toast rack ; I small banjo- shaped clock with silver open work, on ruby velvet mount; 1 small oval clock of whitish agate, gold and turquoise setting round face; 1 pair of dress trousers, small size; 1 thick black melton over- coat ; 1 dark- grey stockinette overcoat; 1 walking- stick with horn handle ; 1 black patent leather brief bag, about, 18 in. long, lined with holland— JAMES DEMPSEY, age about 28, height about 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion, hair, and moustache dark, full eyes, large head, dissipated look ; dressed in some of the stolen clothes. Is said to be knowu at Stock- port, Birkenhead, Liverpool, and Southport. — JAMES ROGER SON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7in., hair brown, light brown moustache; dress, dark brown check coat, dark trousers, black billycock hat. Has in his possession a pedlar's certificate, renewed at Chester in 1891, on production of one granted at Newcastle- under- Lyme for 1890. Warrant issued. ESSEX. 13.— Brentwood ( County).— For stealing from Warley Barracks, 3rd inst.— A double- breasted blue serge coat; a black cloth ribbed waistcoat; a pair of black trousers with raised stripe down legs; and 2 pairs of socks, marked " E. L. C."— WILLIAM BIRT, a private of the Essex Regiment, age 20, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown ; supposed to be dressed in stolen clothes. A native of London. 14.— Brentwood ( County).— For stealing a cart gelding, at Romford, 31st ult.— A MAN, age about 27, height about 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, cast in left eye. Warrant, issued. Information to Supt. Dobson, Brentwood. 15.— Colchester ( County).— For embezzling £ 7— WILLIAM B. WRIGHT, a carman, age about 24, height about 5 ft. 4 in., stout build,) complexion fair, hair ( cut short) light brown, slight light mous- tache, no whiskers, full light grey eyes, swings his arms when walking, has tender feet; dress, reddish brown check jacket suit, jacket rather long in sleeves, new fancy print shirt, black horseshoe pattern^ turn down polo collar attached to shirt of same material, red necktie with bla< jk stripes, brown hard felt hat, low shoes, usually wears a silver ring on right little finger. Warrant issued. Information to Snpt. Ackers, Colchester. FORFARSHIRE. 10.— Dundee ( City).— Portrait and description of WILLIAM BREMNER, whose apprehension is sought for breaking out of Dundee Prison, 28th or 29th ult., whilst undergoing a sentcuce of 12 mouths imprisonment for housebreaking and assaulting police— Ase 34, height 5 ft. 7^ in. ( without shoes), complexion fresh, hair black or very dark brown, eyes hazel, proportionate build, muscular, two scars on back and three on top of head, one on right temple, large scar on right of chin, horse- shoe and hammer tattooed on right forearm, burn mark left forearm, scar on left thumb. When last seen, his moustache was shaved off, and he was dressed in short single- breasted dust coat, light grey tweed vest, dark tweed tight- fitting trousers, grey tweed cap with peak, lace boots. A blacksmith and cart- wright ; native of Forfarshire. He is an expert housebreaker, uses false keys and picklocks, and generally assaults Police when apprehended. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Dewar, Dundee. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 17.— Bridgend ( County).— For stealing, atTyne- mouth, a silver lever Waltham watch, No. 5101276; 3 silver curb- link albert chains; and a plated gold albert chain, long curb link pattern — ROBERT JACKSON, age about 27, height about 5 ft. 10 in., complexion pale, hair ( frizzed in front and exposed to view when his hat is on) and moustache light brown, lost upper front teeth, which causes him to speak indistinctly, small lump on throat; dress, dark or grey plaid suit, black bowler hat, Oxford shoes. Carried a ground ash walking- stick with buckhorn handle, and was wearing the stolen watch and one of the stolen chains. A hair- dresser ; late of Pontycymmer. Stated he is a native of Nottingham, and that he came out of the hospital there five or six months ago. Is known to have worked with a Mr. Carter, Market- place, Nottingham. Absconded 28th ult. Warrant issued. Not to be apprehended out of the United Kingdom. 18.— Bridgend ( County).— For embezzlement and forgery- JAMES LOYELUCK, age 54, height 5 ft. 6 in., round, full and very red face, hair, whiskers, and moustache grey, eyes dark, red nose, short neck, thick hands, and long fingers, short legs, is subject to severe attacks of coughing, speaks French ; usually dresses in dark clothes. A ship- broker and merchant; late of Aberavon, which place he loft on the 18th July last, for Paddington. Warrant issued. Not to be apprehended out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Thomas, Bridgend. HAMPSHIRE. 19.— Winchester ( City).— For deserting his four children— DENNIS LEAHY, alias WILLIAM JOHNSON, born in India, age 40, height 5 ft. 10i in., complexion fresh, oval fade-, hair brown ( turnitg grey), bald on front of head, light brown moustache and beard, eyes hazel, scar on right cheek, bird tattooed on front of left forearm, cupping marks right hip, scar back of left shoulder and centre of back, is very excitable ; dress, black short jacket and guernsey, black hard felt hat. Is likely to seek employment at docks, & c. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Morton, Win- chester. 20.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing a silver lever watch, No. 29024; and a gold albert, cable pattern— AMELIA SHAW, alias WEST- BROOK, HAMILTON, and WILLSON, age 25, height 5 ft. 2 in., rather stout build, complexion fair, hair brown, eyes hazel, front teeth decayed; dressed, when last seen, in marone or chocolate- coloured dress, black hat, white cotton gloves. Carried an umbrella. Occasionally wears a light grey dress. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Cosser, Ports- mouth. KENT. 21.— Sittingbourne ( County).— For failing to report— Supervisee WILLIAM FOX, Office No. 41290, age 48, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair turning grey, eyes grey, scar under chin, on forehead, each kmee cap, right shoulder and left shin, flower and pot on right forearm. Sentenced at Lewes, 22nd Aptil, 1884, to 7 years penal servi- tude and 3 years police supervision for burglary. Liberated 29th April, 1891. E K 612. Information to Supt. Lacy, Sittingbourne. LANCASHIRE. 22. — Bootle ( County). — For shooting and killing a man with a revolver, at Fazakerley, 2nd inst,— TWO YOUTHS, ( 1st) age about 15, tall, peculiar long shaped head, thin face; dress, brown- and- black spotted overcoat with cape, black trousers, black billycock hat, lace boots. ( 2nd) age about 13, round red face, not so tall as the other youth ; dress, black jacket, black- and- white jacket under, which he had buttoned, black- and- white plaid scarf, round black cap. These youths were seen shortly before the occurrence in the neighbourhood where the shot was fired, the older boy having a revolver in his possession, and were seen running away after the report was heard. The older boy said they had come 100 miles, and the younger one stated they had come from Bolton. Both spoke with a broad dialect. The younger boy had £ 10 in his possession and it is very probable that they have absconded with money belonging to their parents or employers. They were seen on 2nd inst., when they were inquiring their way to Wales. Information to Supt. Walsh, County Police Office, Bootle. 23.— Leigh ( County). — For embezzlement — THOMAS GRUNDY, a colliery salesman, age 31, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache and small whiskers brown, Roman nose, large scar left side of face ; dressed, when last seen, in dark coat and vest, snuff- coloured trousers, brown hat. He is supposed to have gone to America. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Higginbotham, Leigh. 24.— Old TrafFord ( County).— For obtaining 20s. by false pretences at Moss Side, 2nd inst.— A MAN, age about 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, slight light moustache; dress, black suit, black hard felt hat. Information to Supt. Bent, Old Trafford. 25.— Rochdale ( County). — License Holder THOMAS DALY, Case 16a., 2nd inst. Not now wanted. 26.— Liverpool ( Gity).—¥ ov failing to report — License Holder MARY ELLIS, alias NIXON, GREATOREX, and McDONALD, Office No. 43311, age 37, height 5 ft., complexion sallow, hair brown ( turning grey), eyes grey, scar left of forehead and several on face. Sentenced at Leeds, 2nd January, 1888, to 5 years penal servitude for larceny ( person). License re roked for a similar offence, 18th January last. Liberated on second license 19th July. B O 260. D. on left arm, varicose veins left leg. Sentenced at Limeriek, 18th October, 1888, to 5 years penal servitude for burglary. Licensed 20th August, 1892. C 272. License Holder " WILLIAM TAYLOR, alias KNIGHT, and JOHN WATTS, Office No. 43141, ago 45. height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair sandy ( bald), eyes grey, curved scar right eyebrow, burn scar left elbow, two moles right forearm and one left hip. Sentenced at York, 2nd November, 1881, to 14 years penal servitude for forging and uttering a bank note. Licensed 29th June, 1892. Y H 1288. Information to the Chief Supt., Detective Depart- ment, Liverpool. 27.— Bootle ( Borough).— For stealing, 1st inst., a lady's gold lever watch, No. .'> 1527, open face, flowers engraved on gold dial, " A. E. R." engraved on back; a silver pencil case with stone in end, £ 3 in silver and 5s. in copper— JAMES CARTER DENT, age about 26, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair, whiskers and moustache sandy, may have shaved; dress, dark worsted suit, turn- down collar, lace boots. A dairyman; native of York- shire. May seek employment as cowman or dairy- man. Is known at Leeds, Blackburn, Ley burn, Burnley and Old Trafford. Absconded 1st inst. Information to Chief Constable Cumming, Boctle. LINCOLNSHIRE. 28.— Lindsey ( County).— For stealing 6s. Gd., at Sturton, 9th inst.— A man who gave the name of THOMAS SEGER, age 46, height 5 ft. 4 in., thin features, hair dark brown, turning grey, dark heavy moustache, turning grey, otherwise clean shaved, of clean respectable appearance; dress, black coat and vest, brown striped trousers, black hard hat, pink check collar, blue tie with red spots, lace boots, wore a silver double chain, small pattern, stretched across his waistcoat several times. Stated he was engaged to repair telegraph wires. He sometimes takes private lodgings and leaves without paying his bill. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Dain, Lindsey. MONTGOMERYSHIRE. 29.— Llanidloes ( County).— For deserting his wife and family— JOHN A. OWEN, age 25, height 5 ft. 8- g- in., slight build, complexion dark, hair brown, eyes bine. A mason, is supposed to be working at his trade in some part of the Rhondda Valley. Was last heard of at Ferndale, Glamor ganshire. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Lake, Llanidloes. 30.— Welshpool ( County).— For attempting to carnally know a girl, age 15— PRYCE WILLIAMS, age about 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair, side whiskers, and moustache dark brown, lost third finger of left _ hand, both eyes blackened, speaks broken English ; dress, black coat and vest, hard felt hat. A farmer ; native of Meifod. It is supposed that he will endeavour to go abroad. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Crowden, Welshpool. NORTHUMBERLAND. £ 1 REWARD. 31. — Berwick- on- Tweed ( County). — For neglecting to maintain his wife and family — JAMES SCOTT, age 29, height about 5 ft. 8 in., complexion dark sallow, hair dark brown, eyes dark, front teeth decayed, one tooth missing from upper jaw. A hatter's salesman; native of Berwick- on- Tweed. May be working as a labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Garden, Berwick- on- Tweed, by whom the above reward will be paid for the apprehension of Scott. SOMERSETSHIRE. 32. — Bath ( City). — For stealing £ 1 6s. — FREDERICK BACON, alias BATEMAN and CONNOR, age about 37, height 5 ft. 7 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, lost one eye ( supposed left), walks slightly forward, generally has his hands in his pockets ; dres", dark brown coat and vest, brown cord trousers, black bowler hat, lace boots ; usually wears a red handkerchief round neck.
