The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted im the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, 1cill be wholly responsible for any proceedings whi*. n may re- ult from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forxarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. NOTICE. 1.— The composition of the Friday No- of the " Police Gazette" will be found arranged for easy reference as follows :— ( a) Regulations at top of 1st page. ( b) Apprehensions Sought. ( 1). Cities and Boroughs therein, arranged in strict alphabetical order. 2.— Any additional copies of the GAZETTE beyond the number at present supplied will be forwarded on application in the form set forth in circular of the 7th of November, 1883. 3.— It is particularly requested that any com- plaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity in the date of delivery of the POLICE GAZETTE, may be at once notified to the Editor. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points- fa) The amount of the reward. ( 6) The conditions on which it is payable, ( a) The person by whom it will be paid, ( d) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. 2. No expfession must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to pi operty stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holdi g out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. NOTE.— There are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Police Force at which Notices can be posted. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1. — E Division. — For obtaining 5 cases of Tasmanian apples by false pretences — ALBERT PULLEN, age 20, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion pale, hair red, eyes light grey, narrow features, high nose. A native of London. Warrant issued. 2.— K Division.— For stealing £ 115 gold and silver, on 6th inst.— TWO MEN : lst, age about 25, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair curly, slight light moustache; dress, dark clothes, black hard felt hat. 2nd, age abo ut 25, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion dark; dress, dark clothes, turned- down collar, black hard felt hat. May be found at holiday or seaside resorts, spending money freely. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. 3.— Reading ( Borough). — For stealing, 6th inst, a new Peerless No. 2, diamond frame safety bicycle, 30- inch wheels, plated and enamelled black, handle bar and seat pillar adjustable, cushion tyres, " Novelty Company, Reading," painted on front fork and on mud guard— A MAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion and hair dark, no whiskers or moustache ; appearance of a coachman or stableman; dress, grey cloth jacket and vest, dark tweed trousers. Information to Head Constable Tewsley, Reading. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 4.-+ Cambridge ( Borough). — For stealing, 5th inst., a Marlboro' No. 2 tricycle, 34 in. driving wheels, 28 in. front, If in. red cushion tyres, in good condition, plating all worn off, black enamelled rubber pedals, axle has been repaired, recently had new bottom bracket, in which are no holes for lubricating— A MAN, who hired the machine, age about 27, height about 5 ft. 7 in., impediment in speech; dress, black coat, light trousers, black hat. CHESHIRE. 5.— Runcorn ( County).— For stealing from a schooner, at Weston Point, 4th inst.— A gentleman's silver lever watch, No. 55062, " Improved Patent" on dial, gold hands, sunk seconds, silver albert guard and small silver locket containing photos of a man and woman, attached — A youth, known as " CHARLIE," age 16 or 17, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, full round face, hair light brown ; dress, bine cloth jicket, dark troupers with stripe, blucher shoe3, blue cloth cap. Stited he had been employed on fishing vessels at Grimsby for the last 4 years. Is supposed to have gone to Liverpool. 6.— Runcorn ( County). — For stealing:, 8th inst., a gentleman's silver geneva watch, No. 210503, with a lady's long silver link chain attaehpd— A youth, known as TIM GREEN, alias BRUMMT, age 16, short and thick- set, hair light brown, eyes blue, full round face, wears small gold earrings; dress, blue calico jacket, greasy cord trousers and vest, light lace boots, blue cloth cap. An engine cleaner on public works. Was lately employed on the Ship Canal Works, Runcorn. Information to Supt. Atherton, Runcorn. CORK. 7.— Cork, North ( City).— For deserting from the Shropshire Regiment on 5th inst,, and stealing the sum of £ 50— Lance- Sergeant JOHN BLUN- DELL, age 26, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, red face and nose, as if addicted to drink ; dress, dark tweed coat, light grey trousers, and cap. A painter; native of St. Wollas, Newport, Monmouthshire. Information to District Inspector Creaghe, R. I. C., Cork, North. DERBYSHIRE. 8.— Eckington ( County).— For embezzling the sum of 10s., while acting as photographer's assistant and collector, about 14th May last — FRANK TAYLOR, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 in., slight build, complexion, hair, and slight moustache dark, thin face and nose; dress, dark worsted coat and vest, dark striped cord trousers, black hard felt hat. A native of Nottingham. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Faulkner, Eckington. ESSEX. 9— Chelmsford ( County). — For stealing, at Springfield, 3rd inst., a strong bay horse cob, 9 years, about 14 hands, black eyes, big feet, scar inside near hock, hairy legs, white streak down face, short mane and tail, is a little over behind, and is worth £ 12 or £ 14; a set of harness, brass mounted, except hames, which are silver- plated, the traces have chains at ends; and a dog- cart, yellow wheels, black body picked out red, the springs are very narrow, but strong, " Tavner " on caps of wheels, blue cloth cushions— A man, supposed named LARKIN, or LORKIN, age about 50, height about 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., blotchy face, hair ( cut short) grey, very long features; dress, large light plaid suit, black hard felt hat, has a hole cut in one of his shoes over the top. Supposed to be in possession of a pedlar's certificate, but place of issuo unknown. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Somerset, Chelmsford. 10. — Grays ( County). — For embezzling £ 17 10s. 7d., on 1st inst.— JAMES GOBETT, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair dark brown, moustache light, rather long thin features, peculiar twitching of the eyes when talking, is of thin build, and very active ; dress, black diagonal coat and vest ( square patch on middle of back of coat), dark brown trousers with grey stripes, lace boots, light skull cap. Has been in the Army. Friends reside at 166, Brady- street, Bethnal Green. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. HERTFORDSHIRE. 11.— Hertford ( County).— For stealing a pony ( recovered) at Great Amwell, on 5th inst.— A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion and hair dark, whiskers black, round- shouldered, and slightly bow- legged ; dress, dark mixture coat, dark trousers, old felt hat; of shabby appearance. Information to Snpt. Parish, Hertford. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. 12.— St. NeotS ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences, on 9th Juno last, a cheque for £ 49 5s. Id.— A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., hair, beard, and monstache dark, talks quickly, of Jewish appearance; dress, dark clothes. He represented himself to be connected with the firm of " Bell, Rag Merchant, Lincoln," and endorsed the cheque " Henry Bell." He has an extensive know- ledge of rag merchants and paper makers in the country, upon whom it is believed he is frequently making attempts to obtain money and goods by false pretences. Information to Supt. Copping, St. Neots. LANCASHIRE. 13. — Blackburn ( County). — For stealing a horse ( recovered), at Cnerdale— ROBERT CAT- TERALL, age 24, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, prominent nose, lost two upper front teeth, scar right groin, burn mark on right nipple ; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, dark brown corduroy trousers, blue and white striped shirt, blue tie, strong lace boots, slate- coloured cap with peak. A native of Blackburn. Information to Supt. Myers, County Police Office, Blackbnrn. 14.— Bolton ( County).— For failing to report — Supervisee JOHN THOMAS PRICE, Office No. 42363, age 26, height 5 ft. 4|- in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes black, lost 3rd right finger nail, anchor outside right forearm. Sentenced at Salford, 6th Jaly, 1891, to 6 months hard labour and 2 years police supervision for warehousebreaking. 1734. Information to Supt. Leeming, Bolton. 15.— Bury ( County).— For failing to report— Supervisee BRIDGET CUNLIFFE, alias CUN- N1FFE, Office No. 42981, age 30, height 5 ft. f in., complexion sallow, hair black, eyes blue, scar rt temple, bridge of nose, and two It upper lip. Sen- tenced at Salford, 1st Jane, 1891, to 12 months hard labour and 4 years police supervision for larceny ( person). 614. Information to Supt. Noblett, Bury. 16. — Rochdale ( County). — For stealing at Middleton, 22nd nit., a cash- box and £ 8— JAMES MABANE, age 28, height 5 ft. 5£ in., complexion fresh, hair sandy, eyes blue, scar on third right knuckle. A butcher ; native of Yorkshire.— GEO. or JAMES TAYLOR, alias KITCHEN, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, scars first left knuckle and on top of nose. A traveller; native of Lancashire. — A WOMAN, age about 29, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in.; dress, black jacket and dress, large black broad- brimmed hat trimmed with black ; smart appearance. Mabane and Taylor were esch sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at Salford Sessions, 10th April, 1887, for till larceny. Their modus operandi is to make a small purchase, tender gold in payment, and afterwards pretend to have dropped part of change through cellar- grating, and while the shopkeeper searches the cellar they commit a larceny. 17.— Rochdale ( County) — For picking pockets at Middleton, on 6th inst.— A MAN and WOMAN : ( 1st) age about 60, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion sallow, hair, whiskers and moustache red ( turning grey) ; dress, light mixture suit, soft black hat, wore a silver albert with sixpenny piece attached, carried an overcoat on his arm and a stick in his hand ; ( 2nd) age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in.( complexion sallow,, hair grey, blue mark on nose; dress, black stuff dress, large white apron, small black- and- white plaid shawl over head, carried a large umbrella. Both spoke with Irish accent. Information to Snpt. Heywood, Rochdale. 18— Warrington ( Borough).— For obtaining, by false pretences, 2 pairs of field glasses and cases— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair and eye3 brown; dress, dark tweed suit ( rather shabby) ; appearance of a clerk. Is wanted at Stockport for a similar offence, and supposed to be making a business of the sale of such glasses. 19.— Warrington ( Borough).— For stealing a watch ( recovered), a striped Oxford shirt, aud a white flannel undershirt— A man, who gave the name of JOHN ANDERSON, age 50, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion pale, hair and monstache dark; dress, black jacket, dark tweed trousers and vest, lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Hunt, Warrington. LINCOLNSHIRE. 20. — Spalding ( County).— For stealing, at Moulton Seas End, on 2nd inst.— A pair of reins and 1 side rein ( recovered at Boston on 3rd inst.) ; also 6 plain brass faces for harness ; and I pair of leather leggings, with knee- caps—" HARRY," a tramping labourer, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion dark, hair, whiskers, and moustache light brown, walks lame; dress, sleeved fnstian or cord vest, black cord trousers; carried a dark coat on his arm, and was wearing the leggings. Information to Snpt. Jarvis, Spalding. 21.— Spilsby ( County).— For larceny ( dwelling) at Toynton St. Peter's, on 1st inst.— SAMUEL HOLDEN, alias " DEAF BOB," a labourer, age about 50, height about 5 ft. 2 in., clean shaved except under the chin, has a fleshy substance about the size of a pigeon's egg on left eyebrow; dress, blue cotton suit, and peak cap which he generally wears over left eye to conceal the lump. He carried a bundle containing a check cloth suit and a pair of drab cotton trousers. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sowden, Spilsby. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. 22.— Nottingham ( County). — For stealing since 1st June, a gentleman's silver lever watch, No. 1089, maker " Sneeth, London"; 1 ditto, No. 12709, maker " Harris, Wolverhampton "; 3 silver genevas, Nos. 35524, 92873, 20111; 1 silver geneva, " Stoddart " on dial; Llady's silver watch, No. 4336 ; 1 Waltham lever, No. 16045; 2 American and 1 Waterbury watch— A man, who gave the name of F. W. HAN DEREZE, age about 38, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh, hair, moustache and whiskers, half way down face, black, eyes dark, teeth decayed in front, lisps a little; may be wearing dark serge suit. This man opened a shop on 1st June, represent- ing that he was a practical watchmaker from Benson's, and obtained a number of watches to repair. He left on 19th July, stating he was going to London to receive some money, and since then nothing has been heard of him. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hallam, County Police Office, Nottingham. SHROPSHIRE. 23.— Bridgnorth ( County). — For stealing, 2nd inst.— 1 white slop jacket, four brown bone buttons down front; 1 pink and white cotton shirt, with new inside to one wristband; 1 pink- and- white shirt, small plaid, bone buttons on front; 2 red pocket handkerchiefs with different coloured flowers upon thom; 1 pair of brown woollen socks, ribbed tops; and a piece of white calico, about a yard square, hemmed on two sides— A TRAMP, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., whiskers and moustache sandy, lost one eye ( supposed left) ; dress, dirty moleskin suit, hard felt hat, or grey cloth cap with two peaks ; is wearing the stolen slop and shirts. Information to Snpt. Walters, Bridgnorth. SOMERSETSHIRE. 24.— Glastonbury ( County). — For failing to appear to a summons for committing an assault at Shepton Mallet, on 22nd ult., and, in absence, was sentenced to 6 weeks imprisonment— GEORGE DERRICK, age 36, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, hair black, eyes hazel, mole on face; dress, cord or moleskin suit, cap or bowler hat. A navvy \ native of Fordington, Dorchester. Commitment warrant issued. 25. — Glastonbury ( County). — For stealing, 26th nit., at West Cranmere, a brown tin box, medium size, and a stained deal box— BENJAMIN BAN WELL, age about 25, height 5 ft. 10 in., slight build, complexion pale, hair brown, very slight light moustache, limping gait, respectable appearance; dress, probably dark suit, bowler hat. A native of Litton, Bath. Left Cranmere Station, 26th ult. with the boxes, and was traced to Bath.— AMELIA VOWLES STRONG, aga 27, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; dressed probably in black. Has with her Fanny Edgell Strong, age 5, and Dorothy Hilda Strong, age 18 months, hair ( very curly) auburn ; dressed in light clothing. A native of Evercreech, Somer- setshire. Left Cranmere, 28fcli ult., and are no doubt in the company of Banwell. May endeavour to go abroad. Inquiries requested at shipping offices, & c. Warrant issued. STAFFORDSHIRE. 26. — Stoke- upon- Trent ( County). — For burglary, 30th ult., and stealing 1 lady's silver geneva watch, No. 9362, flowered case ; 1 silver lever watch, supposed No. 2349, maker, " Rivers, Hanley"; 1 lady's silver watch, " M. A. Pope, Hanley " ; I gold chain; 1 ditto with half sovereign attached ; 1 silver chain with tassels; 1 gold brooch, round shape, raised in centre; 1 silver brooch, oval shape; 1 silver locket and chain; 1 gold locket and chain, round shape ; I pair of silver earrings, stars; 1 pair of gold earrings, horse- shoe pattern; 1 brooch, made from foreign silver coin ; 1 wedding ring and keeper, belt pattern; 1 dress ring; 1 Isle of Man brooch, ruby- coloured stone; jubilee coins, viz.:— 1 half- crown, 1 florin, 2 shillings, and 2 six- pences- JOHN WHITE, age 30, height 5 ft. 4 in.,, complexion pale, hair dark brown; dress, black jacket and vest, light trousers, white collar and tie, black cap with peak, wore a white apron round waist. A French polisher; native of Manchester. Travels from town to town with his wife, who is an npholstress. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Harding, Stoke- upon- Trent. SUSSEX ( EAST). 27. — Hayward's Heath { County). — For stealing, 6th inst., a black mare cob, 14 hands, mane and tail rather rusty, slight mark on knee, enlarged on shin of right leg ; a set of brown harness, silver mounted; a light spring cart, body painted plum colour, picked out bright yellow or blue and yellow, shafts painted red, picked out yellow and blue, off shaft has been strengthened under with iron- plate about 12 inches loDg, inside painted stone colour, bottom worn into rings caused by milk cans; " E. E. M. " branded on back of cart and painted over, " Ernest E. Masters" on side ; a black alpaca coat, usual pockets, black stuff lining, bright buttons; a bag of linseed cake for cattle ; breeching of black harness, very old ; a riding bridle, plated buckles and white strap across forehead ; a green cushion, much faded ; a carriage rug, yellow front, grey lining— A man, known as " MAD JACK," age 39, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair brown, whiskers stubby, walks rather lame ; dress, black jacket, brown cord trousers, pink neckerchief, cap with rosette, or soft felt hat, very old boots with hole in back of one heel. A travelling drover; is well know in Sussex, Kent, Wales, Scotland and Ireland,. Information to Supt. Deuman, Hayward's Heath. SUSSEX ( WEST). 28. — Shoreham ( County). — For stealing mackerel nets ( recovered)— GEORGE WHEELER, alias SMITH, age 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, small light moustache ( turned up at ends), front teeth lower jaw inclined inwards ; dress, dark jacket, cardigan under, dirty dark trousers, blucher boots, black hard felt hat or TUESDAY, AUGUST 16, 1892. T H E POLICE GAZETTE. 3 peak cap. He has sailed in fishing smacks from Yarmouth, and may be found in fishing ports on the East Coast. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Byrne, Steyning. YORKSHIRE ( NORTH RIDING). 29.— Northallerton ( County). — For house- breaking, 5th inst., and stealing a black worsted cloth coat, two pockets behind and one outside left breast, dark lining, " Brockell, Northallerton" on loop of collar; a black cloth vest and trousers of same material, fly front, raised seams outside of legs, lined white calico; a pair of light grey tweed trousers, mixed with red, fly fronts, raised beams, unlined, piece of leather sewn on bottom of leg at front, has been repaired at bottoms, to fit a small man, all in good condition; and for stealing, 5th inst, at Howe, a dark mixture cloth jacket, two poskets outside, with flaps, one inside left breast and one inside right breast, dark bone buttons ; a dark check cloth vest, six dark bone buttons, bottom one different to others ; one old razor, light coloured handle, broken and tied with string — THREE YOUTHS, ages 16 to 20, two of them short in stature, wore dark clothes and cap; the other, taller, wore a blue serge jacket, and a pair of blue cotton trousers, wide at bottoms, cheesecutter cap.
