T H E POLICE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, JUNE 24, 1892. VOL. IX., No. 886. 1. , All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE EDITOB OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of\ bs. per portrait, and of Is. Sd. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. REGULATIONS. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and art alphabetically arranged by counties. g. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forxarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond Sf Co.," Post Office Order payable at Charing Cross, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— E Division. — For obtaining a pair of diamond eartops and a diamond ring by conspiracy and fraud— Two men : 1st, WALTER WOOD, age 35, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion dark sallow, hair brown, full eyes, peculiar walk; dress, brown jacket suit with grey spots, sometimes wears a high hat; 2nd, ARTHUR VERNON, age 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion florid, hair dark, small eyes, large nose ( bent, supposed to the left); dress, black morning coat and vest, light grey trousers, brown felt hat. Warrant issued. 2— N Division. — For stealing £ 1 10s. gold, and a silver lever hunting watch, " Presented to G. R. B. Middlecoat, by his father, on 10th Aug., 1891" inscribed thereon— ELLEN BALCHIN, age 20, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., hair light brown, eyes blue, good- looking; dress, black dress trimmed with gold braid, black jersey, brown plush or imitation sealskin jacket ( long), black hat, trimmed with navy- blue ribbon. A native of Brighton. May be found at Ditchling road Board Schools, Brighton ; 10, Brunswick- place, The Level; 33, Vere- road, Brighton ; or at Ginnett's Circus. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points— ( à) The amount of the reward. ( á) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The person by whom it will be paid. ( ci) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. 2. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. NOTE.— There are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Police Force at which Notices can be posted. CITY OF LONDON. 3. — For being concerned with four men in cus- tody for alleged horse- poisoning— ALEXANDER STEPHEN, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair brown, beard, whiskers and moustache light, eyes blue, sharp nose, bald in a line with ears ; dress, generally grey or light check tweed suit, flat crowned hard felt hat. A horse dealer and ship's carpenter; native of Aberdeen. Warrant issued. 4.— For embezzlement— JAMES CONNOLLY, a traveller, late of 16, Vincent- square, Westminster, age 33, height 5 ft. 7 in., hair and moustache dark, thick- set, stoops slightly, of Jewish appearance; dress, dark clothes, black hard felt hat. BERKSHIRE. 5.— Faringdon { County).— For larceny ( till)— ALFRED MARTIN, age 19, height 5 ft., com- plexion pale, hair brown, long face, and sharp pointed nose, bow- legged, is a fast walker, supposed suffer- ing [ from itch; dress, light dust- coat, dark jacket, dark striped trousers, light gaiters, light peaked cap. A groom; native of Little Coxwell, Faringdon. Likely to be found at horse repositories, livery stables or mews. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Butcher, Faringdon. 6.— Maidenhead ( County).— For house- breaking at Cookham, 18th inst., and stealing a lady's silver watch, " Kendall & Dent" on dial; a gentleman's watch; a silver albert chain, curb pattern"; a half- moon gold brooch, with 3 or 4 stars thereon ; a set of small round gold studs ; a set of silver studs, with links to match ; a black ivory brooch with stag's head thereon; a small square silver locket; several old sixpences, fourpenny and threepenny pieces ; 3 or 4 jubilee four- shilling pieces, and 2 shillings— A MAN, age 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion pale, hair dark; dress, dark clothes ( coat torn about an inch on left shoulder- blade), black hard felt hat. Dorrell, Maidenhead. 7.— Wantage ( County).— For stealing a pony ( recovered), 8th inst.— Two men, ( 1st) THOMAS BREWER, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in.; dress, dark jacket, cord trousers; ( 2nd) JAMES BREWER, age 19 or 20, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in.; dress, dark jacket and trousers, round felt hat. Appearance of low horse- dealers. Information to Supt. Robotham, Wantage. DEVONSHIRE. 8.— Barnstaple ( Borough). — For deserting his wife and children— ALFRED SHAW, age 48 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 5 in., thick- set, com- plexion fair, hair brown, eyes grey, no whiskers, small sandy moustache, top of nose flat, high cheek- bones, two bullet marks on left forearm ; dressed as a labourer in working clothes. Supposed native of London. Is accompanied by a woman named SMITH, and has recently been seen in Kentish Town, London. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Songhurst, Barn- staple. DURHAM. 9.— Consett ( County).— For stealing mason's tools ( recovered), at Blackhill, 23rd ult.— JOHN BOTHWELL, age about 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion florid, hair grey, moustache turning grey, chin shaved; dress, black frock coat, tight fitting blue checked trousers, both much worn, light checked cap with peak. A mason; native of Glasgow. Is much addicted to drink, and stops at common lodging houses. Information to Supt. Oliver, Consett. ESSEX. 10.— Chelmsford ( County).— For leaving his children chargeable to the Chelmsford Union— 2 THE POLICE GAZETTE. TCJESDAY, JUNE 21, 1892. WILLIAM CLARKE, age 49, height 5 ft. 8 in., stoat baild, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes bine. A hay- binder; native of Ingatestone. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Somerset, Chelmsford. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 11.— Pontypridd ( County).— For failing to report— Supervisee JOHN GWYNNE, Office No. 27300, age 31, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes hazel, mole corner of left eye, scar left forefinger and ball of left thumb, and ulcer scars right shin, right foot clubbed and toes contracted. Sentenced at Worcester, 4th April, 1881, to 5 years penal servitude and 7 years police supervision, for larceny. Supervisee WILLIAM SHINN, alias WM. MOLE and WM. PRICE, Office No. 41536, age 25, height 5 ft. in., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes blue, mole on right cheek, right side neck, left eyebrow, and 2 on back of neck, left shoulder injured, bmn mark right shin, crossed flags, woman's head, W. H. M. I. O., anchor and star left forearm, anchor on left wrist, 2 stars and cross on left hand, ring on 2nd and 3rd left fingers. Sentenced at Hereford, 30th June, 1890, to 12 months hard labour and 7 years police supervision for larceny. License Holder JOHN ROBERTS, alias EDWARD REPORTS, Office No. 43017, age 52, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair brown ( bald on top), eyes grey, scar bridge of nose, between right thumb and forefinger, on right knee, and upper part of left arm, blue mark between left thumb and forefinger. Sentenced at Uck, 8th April, 1885, to 7 years penal servitude for larceny. Licensed 7th inst. Information to Snpt. Jones, Pontypridd. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 12.— Chipping Sodbury { County). — For shooting with intent to do bodily harm, at Yale, on 16th inst.— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion dark, hair very dark or black, eyes dark, of gentlemanly appearance and good address; dress, dark grey suit, white shirt or front, brown or tan shoes, hard felt hat with straight brim. Supposed to be an Italian. Information to Supt. Critchley, Chipping Sodbury. HAMPSHIRE. 13.— Aldershot { County). — For larceny — HENRY WILLIAM COOPER, age 25, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes blue. Has been a sergeant in the Royal Artillery, and is now a deserter from that corps. Has a wife and child— a girl age about 2 ; supposed to be living at No. 16, Great Quebec - street, Margaret's - square, London, which place he may visit. Absconded 30th ult. Warrant issned. Information to Supt. Brinson, Aldershot. 14.— Southampton ( Borough).— For failing to report— Supervisee JAMES ANDERSON, alias JOHN CH1EVERS, Office No. 39327, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, scars on right eyebrow and back of head and neck, brown mark above left hip, M. A. C. on left forearm, left big toenail deformed, pockmarks on right shoulder, chest, and stomach. Sentenced at Manchester, 18th March, 1886, to 5 years penal servitude and 3 years police supervision for larceny { person). Liberated 17th ult. M 153. Information to the Chief Constable, Southampton. HERTFORDSHIRE. 15.— Hertford { County).— For committing acts of gross indecency with another malo person at Ossendon.— EDWARD JOHN EDWARDS, a clergyman of the Church of England ( see Case No. 97, 17th inst.), age 42, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., stout, complexion pale, hair ( cut short) black, no whiskers or moustache, eyes dark grey, thick colour- less lips, good set of teeth, broad shoulders. A native of Deal, Kent. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Parish, Hertford. H inches, and tripod, complete, three gutta percha balls and tubes attached, brass tank, stamped " Patent applied for"— JAMES McARTHUR, an itinerant photographer's canvasser, age about 44, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., small side whiskers and moustache brown ( turning grey), full face ( sun burnt), very broad nose, eyes blue, speaks with a north country accent; dress, black diagonal cutaway coat, brown check trousers, black hard felt hat. Is accompanied by a boy, age about 12, dark ; dressed in knicker suit and cloth cap with peak. Photograph can be seen on application. Information to Head Constable Buck, Margate. KENT. 16.— Margate { Borough).— For stealing, between 4th and 15th inst., a photographic camera, size 6 by LANCASHIRE. 17. — Bolton { County). — For embezzling £ 21 18s. lid.— JAMES CAWLEY, alias CURLEY, age 36, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, hair moustache and eyes brown, no beard, high cheek- bones. Is a check weighman at collieries. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Baxendale, Bolton. 18.— Liverpool { City).— For failing to report — License Holder JAMES TAYLOR, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion sallow, hair black, eyes grey, scar on forehead, J. T. on left, and cross ( indistinct) on each forearm. Sentenced at Dublin, 27th Novem- ber, 1886, to 7 years penal servitude for larceny { person). Licensed from Mountjoy Convict Prison 7th March last. C 93. It is requested that if found he may be arrested and dealt with under Section 4, Penal Servitude Act, 1891. Information to the Chief Supt., Detective Depart ment, Liverpool. LINCOLNSHIRE. 19.— Lincoln { City).— For failing to report— Supervisee ARTHUR WILCOCK, alias ARTHUR JOHN LEADER, Office No. 42892, age 26, height 5 ft. 6^ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, bridge of nose broken. Sentenced at Lincoln, 8th January, 1892, to 4 months hard labour and 1 year police supervision for fraud, and previously con- victed at Sheffield. 20.— Lincoln { City).— For obtaining food and drink at an hotel, by falsely representing himself to be manager for Mr. Richard Southcombe, glove manufacturer, Stoke- under- Ham, Somerset— A man who gave the name of F. GILL, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair, whiskers and moustache brown ( whiskers about a month's growth, and moustache long at ends), speaks with Devonshire accent; dress, dark suit, stand- up collar, brown tie, black felt hat with flat top. Had with him a black leather bag, about 12 inches long and 6 inches deep. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Mansell, Lincoln. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 21.— Northampton { Borough).— For obtaining £ 7 5s. by means of a fictitious cheque, on 16th inst. — A man, who gave the name of JOHN BANKS, age about 40, height 5 ft. 5 in., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache brown ; dress, grey tweed suit with cap to match. This man called upon a corn dealer, stating he was a traveller for Hudson's dry soap, and had got their horses in the town, and would require fodder for them for 3 months. He ordered corn, & c., to the amount of £ 8 5s., and gave instructions to have it sent to some stables where he stated his horses were ( false). He then presented in payment a cheque for £ 15 on the London and Westminster Bank, drawn by William Fowler and payable to John Banks, receiving the balance of £ 7 5s. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Mardlin, North- ampton. NORTHUMBERLAND. 22.— Wooler { County).— For being concerned with another man in custody for highway robbery at Ilderton, 18th inst., and stealing a pair of lace boots, size 11, nearly new, newly nailed back to heels, heel and toe- plates, few nails out of one boot; and about £ 2 cash— HUGH DAVID- SON or McLEAN, a tramp, age about 27, height 5 ft. 2 in., stout build, complexion dark, full round face, hair and moustache dark brown, tattooed back of both hands, supposed on one hand " My true love," and " In memory of me," or " In memory of my mother " on the other, crosB, & c., on arms ; dress, dark corded coat, much faded, tweed trousers, patched on knees, grey cap with peak, all shabby and dirty. A native of Coatbridge, Lanarkshire. Information to Capt. Terry, Chief Constable, Morpeth; or to Supt. Kennedy, Wooler. SOMERSETSHIRE. 23.— Fro me { County).— Portrait and description of DAVID MARCHANT, alias FISHER, DRAKE, and DAVID, whose apprehension is sought for obtaining money by false pretences at Radstock, 25th ult.— Age 68, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair, whiskers, moustache, and eyes grey, shaved on chin ; dress, black coat buttoned at top, white vest, plaid trousers, high silk hat. Late of No. 10, Monmouth- place, Bath. Reprepresented himself to be employed by Nelson & Son, publishers, of Bristol, and obtained money under the pretence of appointing a person as their local agent'. Was convicted at Warwick, in July, 1879, for forgery ; at Leeds, in July, 1881, of fraud; at Wilts Quarter Sessions, Michaelmas, 1884, Salisbury, in April, 1885, Glou- cester Assizes in 1887, and Warwick Quarter Sessions in July, 1890, of fraud. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Williams, Frome. STAFFORDSHIRE. 24.— Burton- On- Trent { County).— For steal- ing, 17th inst., a gentleman's silver geneva watch, No. 31902, white dial, steel hands, vitriol marks on inner case— EDWIN JOHNSON ( supposed false), age about 24, height 5 ft. 10 in , complexion dark, hair black, small side vihiskers and moustache, eyes dark, heavy black eyebrows, very large feet, awkward gait; dress, black ribbed cloth jacket and vest, plain black cloth trousers, white collar, black tie, lace boots, black hat with black cloth band. Stated he was a native of Sheffield. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gilbride, Burton- on- Trent. 25. — Stoke- upon- Trent { County). — For stealing, 17th inst.., a silver English lever watch, No. 6968, maker " Aaronson, Hanley ; " and a Boston lever watch, metal case, steel hands— A MAN, age about 18, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slender buiid, complexion fresh, hair light; dress, light mixture jacket, grey vest, dark trousers, light seafaring cap, blucher boots. Information to Snpt. Harding, Stoke- upon- Trent. WARWICKSHIRE. £ 2 2s. REWARD. 26.— Coventry { City).— For stealing, 17th inst., a bright bay pony, about 14 hands, black points, scars on both hind fetlocks, aged; an oak- painted dog cart, well worn, has two rails round top; a set of silver- plated harness— TWO MEN, who repre- sented they were going to visit the neighbouring farmers with a view of receiving tenders for the supply of milk: 1st, age about 48 to 50, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., hair and moustache either light auburn or turning grey; dress, blue melton over- coat with velvet collar, grey suit, high silk hat. Is identical with man described in Case No. 27 and Case No. 30, 10th inst.; 2nd, age 38, height about 5 ft. 9 in., thin features, hair and moustacbo very dark or black; dress, black coat and vest, billycock hat, A third man was seen in their company, age about TUESDAY, JUNE 28, 1892. THE POLICE GAZETTE. 3 38, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair; dress, light dust overcoat, dark brown suit, light soft cap with peak. The men were seen driving the pony and trap through Daventry, making for Northampton. The above reward will be paid by the " Combe, Binley, and Warwickshire Association for the Pro- secution of Felons," for such information as will lead to the apprehension of the thieves and recovery of the property. 27.— Coventry ( City). — For obtaining goods by means of fictitious cheques on the London and Westminster Bank, Lambeth Branch, 17th inst.— WILLIAM WILSON ( supposed false), age about 48 to 50, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., hair and moustache either light auburn or turning grey; dress, grey suit, high silk hat, lace boots. Was accompanied by two other men. ( See Case No. 26). Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Gray, Coventry. YORKSHIRE ( EAST RIDING). 28.— Beverley ( County).— For stealing two heifers at Etton, 14th inst., which he sold at Hull Cattle Market for £ 18— A man, who gave the name of POOL, age 30 to 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., slender build, complexion, hair,* and moustache dark, no beard or whiskers, of Jewish appearance ; dress, pepper- and- salt coloured jacket and vest, dark trousers, light hat, boots worn at toes. Supposed to belong to Leeds or Bradford. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Wood, Beverley. YORKSHIRE ( NORTH RIDING). 29.— Scarborough ( Borough).— For stealing £ 4,31st ult.— RAWSON GARNETT, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 3 in., complexion dark sallow, hair and slight moustache brown, lost one eye, supposed left, may have glass substitute, wore a small dark shade over eye ; dress, dark cloth jacket and vest, brown cloth trousers, black cap with peak, low shoes, rather shabby appearance. Supposed to be a boiler maker, and native of Leeds or neigh- bourhood. Has lived for some time in London, having been employed as potman at public houses. May seek similar employment, or may be found at common lodging houses. Was seen in London on 15th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Pattison, Scar- borough. YORKSHIRE ( WEST RIDING). 30. — S h effi e I d ( Borough). — For stealing a number of watches, 12th inst.— JAMES JOHN- SON, age 20, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, scar on left temple ; dress, black jacket and vest, cord trousers, brown cap. A native of Sheffield. Frequents common lodging houses. Is believed to be a deserter from the North Lancashire Regiment. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Jackson, Sheffield. PERSONS IN CUSTODY. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 31.— J Division. — Committed for trial at Central Criminal Court, 27th inst., for burglary— ALFRED ERNEST SMITH, age 19, height 5 ft. in., complexion and hair dark, eyes dark brown; dress, brown ribbed jacket and vest, grey tweed trousers, grey cricketing cap, red and grey spotted tie, white collar, brown merino socks, lace boots. A native of Homerton, London. Is supposed to have been convicted at Hastings, also at Ramsgate or Margate, about two years ago, in the names of NIGHTINGALE and DOYE, for pocketpicking, and sentenced to 6 months imprisonment on each conviction. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. Supposed to have been previously convicted in the name of Henry Malloy, at Liverpool, as follows— 1873, for housebreaking, 12 months; 1875, for forgery, 7 years penal servitude and 2 years police supervision; in 1885, for stealing coats, 10 months; 1886, for stealing coats, 6 months, and 15 summary convictions ; at Knutsford, on 15th January, 1887, for stealing coats, 5 years penal servitude, dis- charged 2nd January, 1891; at Neath, in the name of James Riley, on 24th December, 1891, for stealing locks, 3 months hard labour. He is strongly suspected of having stolen, at Ilfracombe, on 28th August, 1891, the following articles:— A black leather jewel case, lined with violet velvet; a jet brooch; a locket and bracelet of yellow Roman beads ; a gold locket and chain; a silver watch and gold chain; a silver locket and chain ; 3 gold rings ( 2 wedding, 1 cameo) ; 2 silver brooches ( 1 round, the other bird's claw) ; a gold dagger with sheath and small chain at end ; a lava brooch; a black leather jewel case, containing a gold ring with opal in centre and diamond at each side ; a gold Italian chased ring with " S. P. E. S." thereon; a gold ring, set turquoise and pearls; a gold ring, set with flowers of pearls and turquoise ; a gold ring, rather eld, turquoise discoloured ; a gold brooch, set with small pearls in shape of abroad arrow ; a Paris diamond brooch, size of a penny, silver setting ; a Paris diamond comb ; and a lady's silver geneva watch, glass chipped. Also, on 24th ult., at Ilfracombe— A lady's gold watch, gold face; long gold chain, curb pattern ; and a pair of gold- framed eyeglasses. Had in his possession a gold double- case keyless watch, No. 9407 or 9107 ( the second figure obli- terated), maker " Shepheard and Reed, 104, Regent- street, London, W.," white dial, gold hands ; a gold pencil case and compass; an 18- carat gold ring, set sapphire and 2 diamonds ; and a gold horseshoe pin, set with pearls. 34.— Exeter ( County).— Sentenced to 2 months imprisonment for stealing gold rings by palming— ARTHUR FIELD, alias BIZANT and WEEKS, age 23, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, scar 1| in. long inside left elbow, speaks with a cockney accent, of gentlemanly appearance; dress, blue serge double- breasted jacket and vest, slate- coloured and dark striped trousers, hard felt hat, brown shoes. Supposed native of London. Stated that he was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment at London, about 2 months since, for stealing passengers' luggage at railway stations ( 7 charges), that he had been sentenced to 3 months imprisonment at Liverpool, and that his mate stole a horse and trap and harness, drove it some distance in the country, and sold it. Had in his p jssession a pocket diary with writing in cipher, in which he had entries of having visited many of the principal towns in England, Southampton on 28th ult.; and two rings ( supposed stolen), viz., one a gentleman's gold signet, the other a lady's belcher.
