Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the I'OT. ICE GAZETTB, if t/ icy ure suj/ icient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted m one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. Pur! raits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engrairings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of 7s. '-' d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension ofaperson, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Super. ntendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. V. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 2. 6. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and art alphabetically arranged by counties. ^ 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted, in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In ail cases, the officer signing the request fir insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings whi-. n may reswt from such publication. 11. Annonncem tnts for the Friday issue should be Jorxuraed so as to be received not later than noonori Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearlu written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " DruininondSf Co.," Post Office Order payable at Charing Cross, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. Cities and Boroughs therein, arranged in strict alphabetical order. 2.— Any additional copies of the GAZETTE beyond the number at present supplied will be forwarded on application in the form set forth in circular of the 7th of November, 1883. 3.— It ia particularly requested that any com- plaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity in the date of delivery of the POLICE GAZETTE, may be at once notified to the Editor. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crime. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- ations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly expressed in relation to the following points— ( à) The amount of the reward. ( á) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The person by whom it will be paid. ( d) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. 2. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. NOTE.— There are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Police Force at which Notices can he posted. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT- 1.— A Division. — For embezzling monies belonging to the New Zealand Government— EDMUND ST. ALBYN, age 32, height 5 ft. 6 in., stout build, complexion fair, hair light brown, slight light moustache, may be clean shaved, eyes grey, slightly bow- legged; dress, black morning coat, grey vest, black cloth trousers, black hard felt hat; sometimes dresses in grey suit. A clerk; native of London. Is fond of singing at ballad and smoking concerts. Has been in the theatrical pro- fession, and miy sesk engagement as chorus singer at theatres, or be found with travelling opera and burlesque companies. Has friends at Brighton. Warrant issued. 2.— B Division.— For stealing £ 24— ALFRED ERNEST HARRIS, age 21, height 5 ft. 5 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, blotchy face ; dress, browu overcoat, lace boots, brown hard felt hat. A native of Kensington. 3.— B Division.— For fraud— ARTHUR GEO. WILSON, age 45, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair and heavy moustache brown, turning grey, eyes brown; dress, blue serge jacket suit, black hard felt hat with flat top. Warrant issued. 4.— E Division.— For obtaining 2 gold self- fitting bracelets, 8th ult., by means of a fictitious cheque on the North and South Wales Bank, Hamilton Street, Birkenhead — CHARLES WIL- LIAMS alias C. M. WATSON, GEORGE WAT- SON and HAMMOND, age 43, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light- brown, slight impediment in speech ; dress, dark clothes. ( See also Case No. 11, 30th October last.) Warrant issued. 5.— E Division.— For fraud and conspiracy— WILLIAM JOHN GARDENER, age 42, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair, small side whiskers and moustache dark, eyes dark, of Jewish appearance; dress, blue overcoat with black velvet collar, dark mixture trousers, high black silk hat. A native of London. Warrant issued. 6.— R Division.— For stealing a quantity of jewellery— MRS. J. HAWTON, age about 50, height 5 ft., complexion fresh, hair ( worn in a plait and frizzy in front) iron grey, eyes ( sunken) dark, skin on cheeks and throat wrinkled as if from old age; drass, black mantle, trimmed astrachan, dark navy- blue print dress ( large pattern), black hat trimmed with rad flowers. Supposed native of Dover. 7.— S Division.— F. KING, Case No. 3, lst ult., not yet arrested. He called on persons at Southall and High Wycombe during the past week and issued tickets in the name of F. King and F. Roberts. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. 8. — Wallingford ( County). — Escaped from Moulsford Asylum — JOHN BLOY, a criminal lunatic, age 45, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion pale, hair sandy ( turning grey), moustache and beard, eyes blue, squints, stammers slightly, 3 scars left arm, one right arm, four wounds left shin, three right shin, third finger deformed; dress, dark blue cloth suit, probably marked M. 2. Information to the Chief Constable of Berkshire, Reading, or Supt. Borlase, Wallingford. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 9— SlOUgh ( County).— For stealing, 29th ult., a bay cob, 13 hands 3 in.; a set of brown harness, traces have 2 holes at ends, S. Y. burnt in or near side of collar, ring snaffle bit; a chocolate- colour Battlesden car, wheels picked out red ; 1 green and 2 brown cushions ; broad striped waterproof rug ; and a brown whip— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 in, dark moustache, slight impediment in speech; dress, blue melton overcoat, brown hard felt hat. Drove in the direction of London. Information to Supt. Sutton, Slough. ESSEX. 10.— Chelmsford ( County).— For burglary at Rettendon, 27th ult., and stealing a blue cloth Chesterfield overcoat ( was originally a double- breasted coat, but has been altered to single- breasted); also for burglary at East Hanningfield, same date, and stealing a brass benzoline lamp without handle, but a short chain with extinguisher attached, bent in on top— A MAN, age 40 to 50, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion dark, very thin face, hair ( turning grey) dark, very slight ( if any) whiskers and beard, about a month's growth; dress, black overcoat, serge jacket ( out at the elbows), light vest, lavender- colour trousers with blue or black stripe, light lace boots, much worn at toes, black and white plaid shirt and tie with silver or imita- tion silver pin. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Somerset, Chelmsford. 11— Grays ( County). — For burglary, at Mucking, 25th ult., and stealing a lady's small gold hunter geneva watch, No. supposed 6657, roses and forget- me- nots in blue and red enamelled on cases, THE POLICE GAZETTE. FRIDAY, MAY 6, 1892. a long gold chain, and a gold bracelet set with cameos— A MAN, age about 50, height about 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., rather thin face, short beard ( of only a few weeks' growth), turning grey; dress, black serge or cloth coat ( out at elbows), black hard felt hat. Sleeps in straw stacks and out- housns ; stated he is a carpenter, and that he had been in the Army in India. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 12.— Cardiff { Borough).— For embezzling about £ 6— FREDERICK HILLIER, age about 18, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., hair ( worn on forehead) light, eyes grey, long neck, cartilage in throat very prominent, wart under left nostril ( very noticeable), very large feet; dress, light grey suit with blue stripe running through it, turn- down collar, white satin tie with silver horseshoe and hunting horn pin, light lace boots, brown hard felt hat. A native of Castle- Combe, near Chippenham, where his mother resides. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable McKenzie, Cardiff. 13.— Swansea ( Borough).— For stealing a lady's gold watch, open face, gold dial, No. 13591, maker, " Williams, Swansea," supposed on works, a large gold chain attached, and 17s.— A man, who gave the name of LORNE, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, beard and moustache light, spoke with Birmingham accent; dress, fawn- coloured overcoat, check tweed undercoat, dark vest and trousers, brown felt hat, which is fastened to buttonhole of coat by elastic, stand- up collar; wore a heavy silver albert, cable pattern, with a large silver coin as pendant. This man took private lodgings, paid a week's board in advance, and stated that he expected his brother in a few days, and they were going to open a saddler's business. He also stated that he had been in that business in Birmingham with his father, who is now dead. Is a churchman, and was constantly singing and whistling hymns. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Colquhoun, Swansea. HEREFORDSHIRE. 14.— Led bury ( County).— For stealing, 28th ult., 1 grey dust coat, 3 pockets, cuffs worn ragged; 1 pair of men's watertight boots, newly soled, small nails in heels ; 1 black walking- stick, bone handle ; 1 German silver cased watch, self- winding, fine silver in cases, curb chain attached; 1 light plaid suit of clothes ; 1 pair of dark plaid trousers ; 2 white shirts; 1 brush and comb; 4 collars ( size 15); 1 pair of gloves ; 1 gold ring with diamond in centre, marked " J. J. S.; 1 gold ring, 3 small stones in centre, has been crushed; and £ 1 10s. in silver— FREDERICK GREEN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion sallow, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, lost front teeth, hair brushed down on forehead an inch below his cap ; dress, blue serge jacket and waistcoat, striped plaid trousers, light cricket cap, half boots ( watertights), newly soled. A tramping labourer; native of Green Lane, Cirencester, Gloucestershire. Stated he had been in the service of a Lady Arklow as odd man. Pretends to be very pious. Was traced to Dinaston, Monmouthshire, on 29th ult. May seek employment at gentlemen's houses or dairymen farmers. Information to Supt. Phillips, Ledbury. LANARKSHIRE. i 16.— Glasgow ( City).— For stealing, 9th ult., 124 packages of margarine which he sold for £ 85 14 « . 0< Z.— ALEXANDER POLLOCK LOWRY, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., hair and slight mous- tache dark, otherwise shaved ; dress, when last seen, blue overcoat-' Vith velvet collar, dark check blue suit. Native of Belfast. His father is a margarine merchant, at No. 22, Castleton- street, Belfast. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Boyd, Glasgow. LANCASHIRE. 1.-. 1 17. — Chorley ( County). — For shooting and wounding a night watchman at Farington, 22nd ult. — ROBERT MILLER, age about 22, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., stout build, complexion fresh, hair brown, slight moustache, round face, of pleasant appearance, prominent eyes, sometimes weak and bloodshot, which he is in the habit of bathing fre- quently with cold water, small lumps on face like a rash, which show very plainly at times; dress, black cloth jacket, brown striped fustian trousers, dark tweed cloth cap, strong lace boots. A farm ser- vant; native of Nateby, near Garstang, where his father, grandfather, uncle and several annts reside. Has a brother, a farm servant for Richard Baines, at Caton, near Lancaster. May probably enlist in the Army, or seek employment as a carter. Information to Supt. Norris, Chorley. 18.— Liverpool ( City).— For failing to report— Supervisee RICHARD GRIFFITHS, Office No. 42682, age 54, height 5 ft. 2i in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, lost third left finger. Sen- tenced at Preston, 8th April, 1891, to 12 months hard labour and 3 years police supervision. It is lequested, that if found he may be dealt with under Section 4, Penal Servitude Act, 1891. Information to the Chief Supt., Detective Depart- ment, Liverpool. 19.— Salford ( Borough). — For stealing £ 74— FREDERICK JONES, age about 19, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slim build, complexion sallow, hair dark, scar on chin; dress, black worsted jacket and vest, striped trousers, lace boots, ( newly soled and heeled), brown hard felt hat. A barman ; native of Birmingham or Wolverhampton. Is fond of cycling. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Salford. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. 15— Norman Cross ( County).— For obtaining 2 horses ( recovered) and £ 7 10s., by means of a worthless cheque, at Stibbington, on 14tb ult. — A man, who signed the cheque G. H. TOMLINSON, and represented himself as a partner in a paper mill at Epperstone, Nottingham ( false), age about 45, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., slight build, complexion fair, light shaggy beard turning grey ; dress, light dust- coat, dark coat, trousers and vest, light necktie, with gold pin, black hard felt hat; wore a gold ring and gold albf^ f. chain, carried a small hand- bag. Is fond of drink and low company, and talks a great deal about horse- racing. Information to Inspector Clarke, Stamford. 21.— Spalding ( County).— For stealing an over- coat ( recovered), at Crowland, 17th ult.— WILLIAM HENRY BLANCHARD, alias BROWN, age 21, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., complexion fresh, hair and small whiskers dark; dress, short black worsted coat, pockets on hips, striped brownish trousers, lace boots, light check cap, generally wears a large silk neckerchief. A labourer; native of Cowbit. Was recently employed on the new railway in Leicester- shire, but is now supposed to be travelling with " Bostock's Menagerie." Warrant issued. Information to Supt. NORFOLK. < 9P 22.— Norwich ( Citi/).— For stealing a hand- barrow— THOMAS ROGERS, age 27, height 5ft. 2T? in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, deeply pockmarked on face and arms, scar second finger left hand, is in the habit of closing his eyes when speaking; dress, dark cloth check suit. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. 24.— Nottingham ( Borough).— For stealing, 16th ult.— A bay horse, aged, 15" 1 hands, 2 white hind heels, black mane, short tail, in good condition; a Manchester dog- cart, plum colour, picked out red, maker's name " Starey, Nottingham," on axle caps ; lamp irons, movable seat, " A. A." in monogram on both sides of cart, blue cushions; a set of silver- mounted harness, round furniture ; straight bit with one ring ; and a green cloth rug bound with red, " James Taylor, North Church- street, Nottingham," thereon— G. GREY, age 32 or 33, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., hair and moustache dark, otherwise clean shaved; dress, blue- black overcoat with velvet collar, black billycock hat; of gentlemanly ap- pearance. SHROPSHIRE. 25.— Shrewsbury ( Borough)— For failing to report— Supervisee THOMAS VAUGHAN, Office No. 35201, age 59, height 5 ft. 1\ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, proportionate build, long face, wart centre of back. A timber hauler. Sentenced at Hereford, 29th Oct., 1886, to 18 months hard labour, and 5 years police super- vision, for larceny. 222. Information to the Head Constable, Shrewsbury. SOMERSETSHIRE. 26.— Frome ( County).— For neglecting to sup- port his wife and family — SAMUEL CURTIS MANLEY, age 40, height 5 ft. 9 in., rather stont, full face, moustache sandy, otherwise clean shaved; dress, when he left Frome about two months' since, brown overcoat, black suit, black bowler hat. Is addicted to drink. Has served 12 years in the 2nd Coldstream Guards, and has since been em- ployed as clerk in the Prison Service at Lancaster, Brixton, and Stirling. Was last heard of in Bristol about a month since. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Williams, Frome. 27.— Bridgwater ( Borough).— For obtaining by false pretences a gentleman's silver lever watch,. Goning barrel, " LB /—" scratched on inside of back case ; and a gentleman's silver demi- hunter keyless Geneva watch, " B/—/—" scratched on side of back case— H. J. COURTNEY BOUCHIER, age 22, height 5 ft. in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, moustache dark, eyes brown, eyebrows nearly meet, mole on left side ; wearing military boots. A native of Bridgwater. Warrant issued. Information to Head Constable Lear, Bridgwater. STAFFORDSHIRE. 28.— Longton ( County).— For stealing, 28th ult. r a pair of black wool stockings ; a brown cloth reefer overcoat, fawn plaid lining, usual pockets ; a razor' with black handle ; and a square canister, with cats painted thereon — HENRY BRASSINGTON, age 21, height 5 ft. 10 in., slender build, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, anchor and scar left forearm, two blue scars on back of left forearm, two ulcer marks left leg and one right leg; dress, supposed stolen overcoat and stockings. A native of Longton. Information to Supt. Evans, Longton. SUSSEX ( EAST). £ 20 REWARD. 29.— Hastings ( Borough).— For stealing £ 700, in November, 1890— THOMAS JAMES TURNER, age 27 or 28, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fair, hair ( inclined to curl) and moustache light, near- sighted, wears glasses when reading or writing; dress, mixture tweed suit, low- crowned hat. A banker's clerk ; native of Horsham, Sussex. Absconded from Hastings 12th inst. Warrant issued. WARWICKSHIRE. 30.— Atherstone ( County).— For stealing at Hartshill, 28th ult.; a silver lever - watch ( recovered), a chain and a pocket knife— THOMAS HEXTALL, age 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., slender build, complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, anchor tattooed on right arm, three small blue marks under left eye; dress, light plaid suit, brown hard felt hat, blue striped scarf, lace boots, patched ; a labourer, native of Thornton, Leicestershire. Has been in the Army ; previously convicted for housebreaking and larceny. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hannah, Atherstone. 31.— Birmingham ( City).— For embezzling the sum of 18s.— HENRY SIMMONS, age 22, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., slight build, complexion ruddy, hair brown, eyes dark, walks erect; dress, green overcoat, red and black mixture vest, light trousers, patched with leather at the bottoms inside, black and white check scarf, billycock hat pressed np at sides. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Farndale, Bir- mingham. PERSONS IN CUSTODY. BERKSHIRE. 35.— Reading ( County).— Committed for trial at the next Assizes for burglary — CHARLES WALTER COLEBROOK, alias JONES, age 21, height 5 ft. 8^ in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes grey ( cast in left), several small scars on back of neck, four burn marks back of right leg, scar above left knee, burn mark outside left knee, anchor tattooed back of left hand, true lover's knot, cross and heart on left hand, indistinct " T" on upper part of left forearm, star and 8 dots within angles of star on right hand, scar front of right wrist; dress, black diagonal coat, striped tweed vest, old light tweed trousers, white muffler round neck, blue cloth cap with shiny peak ( new), old blucher boots. Information to Supt. Pocock, Reading. WORCESTERSHIRE. 32.— Kidderminster ( Borough).— For stealing 2 ducks ( recovered)— Expiree WM. SOUTH ALL, Office No. 19052, age 38, height 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion sallow, liair brown, moustache very dark, eyes hazel, scars left side back of head, left side of forehead and eyebrow, back of neck ( boil), left thumb, and left leg; dressed in a dark suit of clothes. Sentenced at Worcester Sessions, 18th Oct., 1880, to 18 months bard labour, and 7 years police supervision, for larceny. 659. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Kidderminster.
