All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE EDITOB OP THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAED, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. A. Ill all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15j. per portrait, and of Is. ( id. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. livery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. T. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings whica may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office. New Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond 8f Co.," Post Office Order payable at Charing Cross, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 125, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. ll. Cities and Boroughs therein, arranged in strict alphabetical order. 2.— Any additional copies of the GAZETTE beyond tke number at present supplied will be forwarded on application in the form set forth in circular of the 7th of November, 1883. 3.— It ia particularly requested that any com- plaints as to the non- delivery or of irregularity in the date of delivery of the POLICE GAZETTE, may be at once notified to the Editor. NOTICE. " Scotland Yard, London," has been regis- tered at the General Post Office as the abbreviated address for telegrams for the Assistant Commissioner of Metropolitan Police, Criminal Investigation Department, whose offices are now at New Scotland Yard, London, S. W., instead of 21, Whitehall Place. The following is a copy of the order which governs the circulation, by the Metropolitan Police, of advertisements, or reward bills, for the discovery of property or the detec- tion of crirr> e. The Editor inserts it, in hope of preventing delays which sometimes occur in publishing such notices, on account of their not being in accordance with the regu- lations in force in the Metropolis :— 1. Printed hand- bills, or other advertisements, offering a reward for the discovery of property or the detection of crime, whether printed and issued by the Metropolitan Police, or distributed and exhibited, with the sanction of the Commissioners, on the application of private persons, or of the Police of any County or Borough, must be clearly • expressed in relation to the following points— ( a) The amount of the reward. ( b) The conditions on which it is payable. ( c) The person by whom it will be paid. ( d) That the name and address of the printer appear thereon. 2. No expression must be used in such an advertise- ment, in relation to property stolen, or criminally taken or disposed of, holding out any expectation that the reward will be paid on its return without the offender being brought to trial, or without enquiry. NOTE.— There are 177 Stations of the Metropolitan Police Force at which Notices can be posted. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— D Division. — For attempting to carnally know and abuse a girl under 13 years of age— CHARLES WOOD, age 28, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes dark brown, slightly bow- legged, rather broad nose, of military appearance; dress, dark clothes, high silk hat. Warrant issued. 2.— G Division. — Woodcut portrait and de- scription of CHARLES HAT BROWN, whose apprehension is sought for perjury :— age 29, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion very fair, hair light, eyes blue, thick bottom lip split in centre; dress, black diagonal coat and vest, black cloth trousers, black hard felt hat. A native of Sproughton, Suffolk. Warrant issued. 3.— N Division. — For obtaining £ 30 by means of a fictitious cheque on Messrs. Mollineux & Co., Bankers, Lewes, on 17th ult. — T. O. NEWMAN ( supposed false), age about 34, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair, whiskers, and moustache brown ( inclined to sandy), eyes dark, Ligh cheek- bones, speaks with a north country accent; dress, brown overcoat, light grey check jacket, dark trousers, blue necktie, turn- down collar, black billy- cock hat. Is identical with man described in Case No. 25, 16th October, and No. 16, 13th ult. Warrant issued. 4.- S Division. — For embezzling £ 1 7s. and other moneys— ARTHUR MINOR, age 34, height 6 ft., complexion pale, hair and moustache light, eyes hazel, bald patch lelt s- ide of head, front tooth chipped upper jaw, walks erect; dress, drab dust overcoat, dark coat and vest, cord trousers, pale blue woollen neckerchief, lace boots, black bard felt hat. A native of Suffolk. Has served in 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards. Absconded 19th ulto. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CITY OF LONDON. 5.— For larceny ( bailee). — JAMES FREDK. NOLAN, a tea broker, late of 21, Mincing Lane, E. C., age 18, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache ( slight) light, thin face, long nose, weak voice ; dress, light mixture ulster with cape, blue reefer jacket and vest, dark brown trousers, low brown felt hat. Is supposed to be living in the ne'ghbourhood of Maida Vale. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McWilliam, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. BERKSHIRE. 6.-— Wantage ( County). — For night- poaching and assault— A man, suppose named JOHN HILL, alias JONES and " DARKEY," age about 30, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion fresh, whiskers and mous- tache dark ( may be shaved off) ; dress, dark pilot jacket, cord trousers, black hard felt hat, heavy lace boots. Supposed known in Berkshire and Wiltshire. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Robotham, Wantage. 7. — Wokingham ( County). — For embezzle- ment—. TAMES WILLIAM WARD, age 24, height about 5 ft. 7\ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache ( sometimes shaved off) dark, prominent hazel eyes, is very short- sighted and wears spectacles, many warts on both hands; dress, dark check jacket and vest, light cloth trousers, stand- up collar and front combined, blue cotton necktie tied in sailor's knot, lace boots, supposed wearing light cloth gaiters. A baker ; native of Cropedy, Banbury. Is kuown at Woodstock, Ban- bury. Oxford, Long Handborough, and Hilperton, near Trowbridge. Warrant issued. Informatiod to Supt. Atkin, Wokingham. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 8.— Newport Pagnell ( County). — For larceny. 14th ult.— ARTHUR FARRER, age 25, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion and slight moustache dark ; dress, dark clothes and overcoat, dark cord trousers and cap. A carpenter; native of Risley, Bedfordshire. Is known at Rushden and North- ampton. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Fitson, Newport Pagnell. r 4 T H E POLICE GAZETTE. DEVONSHIRE. 9.— Exeter ( City). — For stealing from lodgings, 7th nit., a lady's gold watch ( recovered) ; and a gentleman's gold- plated buckle- ring— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, mous- tache and whiskers ( small) light, clean shaved on chin, high forehead, has good teeth, walks erect, of good address; dress, black morning coat and vest, black and white check or plaid trousers ( rather loose), black hard felt hat, light silk tie; carried a black mackintosh with grey lining, and a black bag or small portmanteau. This man gave the name of Wilson and Batger, and represented himself to be a commercial traveller. May be found at refreshment houses. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Court House, Exeter. KENT. 10.— Cran brook ( County).— For stealing a set of harnes- ( recovered) at Rolvenden, on 25th ulto.— HARRY BEANEY, age 30 to 40, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, generally clean shaved or stubby beard, & c., eyes dark, rather large head, full face, short neck; dressed in a dealer's suit of nearly new grey clothes, raised seams, velvet collar, bound with velvet on sleeves, back of jacket and vest pockets, about 18 buttons down front of vest, and large soft black bat. Alow horse, & c., dealer, native of East Sussex. Travels the country with a house- cart and light pony, accompanied by his wife and 6 or 7 children. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bartlett, Cranbrook. * 11.— Tunbridge Wells ( Borough).— For em- bezzlement — CHARLES JOHN BOUTWOOD, age 24, height 5 ft. 3 in., slight build, complexion dark, hair dark brown, clean shaved. A native of Hastings. Keeps company with a young woman of Alfred- street, St. Leonard's. He has worked at a grocer's shop in Croydon. His father resides at Marina, St. Leonard's, or Kite's Nest Farm, near Ore. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Constable Allison, Tunbridge Wells. 12. — Canterbury ( Prison). — Escaped from Canterbury prison on the night of 30th ult., whilst awaiting trial on a charge of burglary at Folkestone — EDWARD O'BURKE, alias TOOMEY, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar top of left collarbone, 2 scars left groin, scar left knee, second toes on each foot crooked ; dress, brown cloth jacket, striped bluish trousers, bard felt hat, prison shirt, socks, and flannels. A tailor; native of New York. Was discharged from Pentonville Prison on 24th Sep tember last, after serving 5 years penal servitude. Has a knowledge of New York, and wishes to return to America. His mother, Mrs. Toomey, resides at 29, Blackwall- lane, East Greenwich. Information to the Governor, H. M. Prison, Can- terbury. LEICESTERSHIRE. 15.— Market Harborough ( County). — For obtaining 10s., by false pretences— A man who gave the name of MOORE, age 60, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, hair ( parted in centre), whiskers, and moustache grey, limps when walking; dress, dark grey suit, lace boots, light grey double- peak cap, wore brown dogskin gloves, with black- stitched backs. This man took lodgings at a private house, stating that he was a farmer, and that his luggage was at the railway station, and for the purpose of removing it, as he stated, borrowed the money. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bott, Market Harborough MONTGOMERYSHIRE. £ 2 REWARD. 16.— Newtown ( County).— For deserting his family — URIAH MORRALLE, age 42, height 5 ft. 7 in , complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes blue, high cheekbones, upper front teeth projecting, A labourer; native of Denbighshire. The above reward will be paid by the Guardians of Llanfyllin Union for the apprehension of Morralle. Warrant issued. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Crowden, Newtown. LANCASHIRE. 13.— Salford ( Borough).— For failing to report — License Holdet HENRY WARD, alias HENRY GOLDBOURNE, HENRY GOLD1NG, JAMES ROSS, GEORGE WARD, and HENRY GOL- BOITRN, Office No. 41319, age 32, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes hazel, scar back of head, abscess scar left of throat, vaccination marks both arms, lost two upper teeth, scar inside both ankles, first left finger damaged, two seers out- side left calf, two scars front of left foot, two scars right elbow, four scars right hip, and one inside right calf. Sentenced at the Middlesex Sessions, 9th May, 1887, to 5 years penal servitude, and 2 yeais police supervision, for larceny. Licensed 11th May, 1891. G N 281. 14.— Salford Borough).— For embezzling £ 18, on 2lst ult.— JOHN WILLIAM WALCH, age 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fair, hair light ( rather thin), eyea grey, slight light moustache; dress, blue- black melton overcoat, with velvet collar, dark cloth suit, lace boots, high hat. A butcher; native of Harpurhey, Manchester. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, T^ wn Hall, Sal ford. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 17.— Kettering ( County).— For stealing 30th ult., 7s. 3d. and a brown leather purse — MARY WILMOT, alias WILSON and KING, age 28, height 5 ft., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown ; dress, black dress, short black jacket, braid on shoulders, black hat, elastic sidc^ boots— all shabby A native of Northampton. Her modus operndi is to obtain lodgings amongst poor people. She remains indoors under the pretence that she has work to go to in a few days, steals money or wearing apparel and decamps. Supposed wanted at Northampton and Welling- borough for similar offences. Information to Supt. Hensher, Kettering. OXFORDSHIRE. 18. — Burford ( County). — For stealing at Clanfield, 19th nit.— a silver double- cased English lever watch, " W. Yells " marked on inner case ; a lady's gold geneva watch ; a long gold chain, small links, broken and tied with black cotton ; a gold locket, chased both sides, glass broken, gold chain attached ; a gold dress ring, set with diamonds; 1 ditto, set with 3 pearls; a gold mourning ring, set with 3 pearls, and made to contain hair ; a gold ring, set with pearls and rubies ; a gold seal, set with turquoise; a small locket, chased ; a pair of gold earrings, oval shaped ; and about £ 2, the contents of a money- box ; supposed by a woman who had lived in the house since 26th Oct. as mother's help, and left on 19th ulr. by an express train from Alvescott Station to Paddington. arriving thei: e about 5.30 P. M.— Mrs. L. POWELL, age 45 to 50, height about 5 ft., very stout build, complexion florid, hair dark ( turning grey) ; dress, black braided jacket, brown dress, black hat, trimmed red and black, black veil; is addicted to drink, especially beer. Obtained situation through character being sent by a Mrs. Easton, 43, Brixton- road, London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Leech, Whitney, or Inspector Cooke, Burford. SHROPSHIRE. 19.— Bridgnorth ( County).— For stealing two geese ( recovered), at Spring- hill, Madeley, 23rd ult. — RICHARD SMITH, alias DORSETT, age 27, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., slender build, hair light brown, slight light moustache, no whiskers, eyes grey, two upper front teeth deficient; dress, black pilot jacket, grey trousers and vest, white muffler, black hard hat or cloth cap, strong lace boots. A miner or labourer; native of Madeley, Salop. This man is a thief and poacher, and will probably be found in such company, or low public- houses, and may seek employment in collieries or well- sinkings. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Walters, Bridgnorth. STAFFORDSHIRE. 20. — Burslem ( County). — For embezzling £ 4 8s. 9d., on 28th ult.— THOMAS BICKERTON, alias BRUSH, age 39, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, whiskers and moustache rather sandy, eyes grey, oval face ; dress, dark brown plaid jacket and vest, brown cloth trousers, black hard felt hat, lace boots. A fish salesman or greengrocer ; native of Burslem. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Supt. Hill, Burslem. 21. — Stoke- upon- Trent ( County). — For obtaining goods by fraud— CHARLES BERNARD BARRETT, age 27, height 5 ft, 3 or 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair very light, eyes blue, cross- eyed, crooked nose; dress, plaid cloth coat and vest, dark grey Scotch tweed trousers, soft felt hat, strong lace boots. Warrant issued. Information to Acting Supt. Harding, Stoke- upon- Trent. SUFFOLK. 22. — Ipswich ( Borough). — For keeping a brothel— EMILY GREEN, alias Mrs. COPPING, age about 50, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., weight 11 stone, complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) dark brown, mole on face; dressed respectably generally in black, generally wears a bonnet. A native of Ipswich. She associates with prostitutes and fast men. Has been convicted at Colchester and Yarmouth for a similar offence. Warrant issued. Information to Lieut.- Colonel Russell, Chief Constable, Ipswich. SURREY. 23.— Redhill ( Borough.).— For stealing, 30th ult — A lady's 18- carat gold geneva watch, No. 26042, gold face, steel hands, worn and dented back, short gold chain, with 5- franc piece attached— A MAN, age about 22, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion fresh ;' dress, brown overcoat with velvet collar and cuffs, dark trousers with light stripes, black hard felt hat. Information to Head Constable Moraut, Redhill. WORCESTERSHIRE. 24. — Oldbury ( County). — For stealing a glazier's diamond ( recovered)— JAMES DUNN, a painter, agu 40, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion rather pale, hair brown, moustache light; dress light cloth trousers, lace boots, black hard felt hat. Stated ho had been in the Army and in the Staffordshire Con- stabulary. Has been convicted at West Bromwich for stealing painter's tools. Warrant issued. 25.— Oldbury ( County).— For obtaining £ 5 by false pretences— JOSEPH O'CONNOR, alias JOE. MARTIN, age 28, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache ( slight) dark; dress, dark suit. A cloth hawker ; supposed native of Manchester or Liverpool. Has been in the Army, and now belongs to the Army Reserve. May be found with his brother, Thomas Martin, hawking cloth. ( See Case 23, 6th ult.) Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Speke, Oldbury. YORKSHIRE. 26.— Bradford ( Borough).— For failing to report — Supervisee SARAH JANE HOWLETT, Office- No. 33479, age 44, height 4 ft. 11 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes grey, scarred forehead, both, eyebrows, left side of chin, right wrist, right thumbj ears pierced. Sentenced at Bradford Sessions; 4th April, 1884, to 5 years penal servitude, and 5 years police supervision, for felony. Licensed 3rd August, 1887. K 21. Information to the Chief Constable, Bradford. KENT. 27.— Dover ( Borough).— Committed for trial at the next Kent Assizes for larceny from barracks, forging and uttering cheques on Sir Charles- McGregor's Bank, London— CHARLES LULAND, age 32, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, pock marked, scald mark on right m, 2 dots on 3rd finger left hand; dress, dark ai \ FRIDAY, NOVEMBER2,0, 1891. LANCASHIRE. 28.— Ormskirk ( County).— Remanded till 8th inst. — WILLIAM BELL, alias BROWN and BELVIER ( Case No. 13, 6th ult.). His cheque- book shows that he has presented cheques at KnottiDgley, Hull, and Halesworth. States that he was born in Hull, and has lived at Bridgewater, London, Manchester, Sheffield, and Liverpool, and has travelled the country attending race meetings. Had in his possession a gold lever watch, No. 51, a 9- carat gold albert chain, curb pattern, attached. Information to Supt. Jervis, Ormskirk. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 29.— Newport ( Borough). — Sentenced 18th ult., to 1 month's imprisonment, for larceny— WILLIAM ELLIS, age 30, height 5 ft. 7h in., com- plexion pale, hair dark, moustache brown, eyes hazel, wart or large mole on right temple, bust of female tattooed left forearm; dress, grey tweed coat, and old black coat, black vest, moleskin trousers. States he is a labourer, and native of Blaenavon. Supposed pijpviously convicted, and wanted for other offences. Information to Head Constable Sinclair, New- port. kins, and having been seen to meet Thomas Jones on several occasions, he was watched and caught RADNORSHIRE. 30. — Rhayader ( County). — Sentenced tD 4 months imprisonment, for stealing £ 22, from a common lodging- house, at Rhayader, 17th ult.— JOHN BURNS, age 46, height 5 ft. 7 in., com- plexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown, varicose veins right leg; dress, old dark brown overcoat, cotton cord trousers, military boots, black hard felt hat. A native of Cork. Is supposed to have committed offences elsewhere. Information to Sergeant Jones, Rhayader. SHROPSHIRE. 31.— Bridgnorth ( County). — Committed for trial at the Salop Assizes, on 8th inst, for burglary - GEORGE BREEZE, alias GEORGE ROBSON, and TOM WRIGHT, age 29, height 5 ft. 3^ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache sandy, otherwise clean shaved, eyes blue; dress, brown cloth jacket, black cloth vest, brown cord trousers, brown cloth cap, military boots. A farm labourer; htates he is a native of Newport, Salop, and that his father, Robert Breeze, resides at 1, Castle- view, Newtown, Salop. Supposed previously convicted, and wanted elsewhere. Photo can be seen on appli- cation. Information to Supt. Walters, Bridgnorth. 32.— Wellington ( County). — Committed for trial at the Salop Assizes, on 8th inst., for an assault with intent to rob on the highway, at Donnington— WILLIAM STACEY, age 53, height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache grey, otherwise clean shaved, cut mark on left side of head, and a bald patch on back of head; dress, pepper and salt coloured cloth jacket, old grey striped vest, dirty moleskin trousers, old lace boots, black hard felt hat, with broad brim. A moulder; native of Butterley, Derbyshire. States he has worked at Brightside- lane, Sheffield, and Newport, Monmouth- shire, bat has been tramping the country with his wife for the last two years. Information to Chief Supt. Edwards, Wellington. STAFFORDSHIRE. 33 — Wo I ve r ham pto n ( Borough) .— Woodcut portrait and description of ALFRED GREY, alias FREDERICK SCISSONS, Captain SYMONDS, and Mr. HAWKINS, in custody for receiving stolen table - cloths: — age 34, height 5 ft. 6 in. without shoes, complexion fresh, hair light brown, moustache sandy, eyes grey, small mole on left forearm, large wound on right shin, which he says was caused by a kick. States he is a com- mercial traveller.
