Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the . POT- ICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. • A In all eases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension w sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 16 » . per portrait, mid of Is. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. v 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not lies rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be reqwed to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. ?. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. T I O N S. & Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and m* alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted M the POLICB GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editat notice ef the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the rjxt issue. 10. In aU cases, the efficer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will bt wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, end accompanied by • covering letter. 12. " Thomas, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came." _ This was the cause of all his trouble. Would Jesus really appear to them ? This thought held the disciples pretty well together when the rumour once got abroad that the Lord had risen. They came running together, but Thomas did not run. ^ Hence arose the cause of all his trouble— he was not where he should have been. Thomas is vexed, despondent. He had missed a great deal. Christ had put the others into a state of gladness of heart, and as soon as Thomas appeared they burst out, " Thomas, we have seen the Lord." " I don't believe it." Ah ! Thomas has a large family, and all his children take after the father. They are always a day too late. They come into the fair when the fair is over, and go away grumping and gloomy, and don't believe, and try to make others not believe, because they were not there. Herein lies the thing that shows our want of faith in the reality of Jesus Christ, that whereas we turn up so readily at the call of the world, wet or dry, we keep punctually appointed hours for the workshop, & c., when it comes to the call of Christ Jesus anything seems to be able to keep us back ; the lightest wind seems to be able to whisk us like a withered leaf off the path to Him. And yet Thomas was an honest soul. He took his stand, and said, " That fact about Christ I will take second- hand from no man." Many of us will never be men, never have faith and certainty about Jesus Christ until we stop dealing with mere retailed religion, with the second- hand testimonies and opinions of other people, and push forward through the thicket until we come to the clear light of personal revelation in our own soul. We stand on the watch. tower of the testimony of those ten men, but we look to catch a glimpse of Him for ourselves. We must come to that; nothing else will serve our turn. " That I may know Him "—" Jesus loved me, and gave Himself for me."
