Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will he inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. J. Particulars as to stolen proper ty will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified • J. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible far the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of sto'en property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of lbs. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. v 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not Uss rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. f. Announcements concerning stolen property must bt guaranteed by an officer of not ku rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. HONS. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property beat a number, and alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted H the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the £ ditat notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the • azt issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will it wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should bt forwarded to a* to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the usual form, and accompa-. ied by * covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Great Scotland Yard, by cheque- crossed " Drummond j Co.," Post Office Order payable at Charing Cross, Postal Order, or im Stamps. 13. The Revised Version of Hebrews ii. 1 runs thus : " Therefore we ought to give - the more earnest heed to the things that were heard, lest haply we drift away." Is not drifting the danger to which we are most exposed ? For every one that definitely turns his back upon Christ, there are hundreds who drift from Him. The young man starting in life does not distinctly say, " I renounce my father's God," but he finds himself among those who do not, care for religion ; he relaxes his efforts and begins to drift, until the coast- line of Heaven recedes so far into the dim distance that he doubts if he over really saw it. The business man yields in trivial points to the pressure of competition, and is borne far beyond his first intention. The professing Christian did not with one leap cease to open the Bible and pray, but drifted into an Arctic Region, where he is likely to perish unless rescued on the warm Gulf Stream of the love of God. It is so easy and so much pleasanter to drift ! But then follows the unanswerable question, " How shall we escape if we neglect?" The sailor who refuses harbour and lifeboat does not escape. The self- murderer who tears the bandage from his wounds does not escape. Did the Israelite escape who refused to sprinkle the blood upon the door, posts of his house ? Did the man who gathered sticks on the Sabbath day escape, although he might have pleaded " first offence " 1 Did Moses and Aaron escape, though they were the leaders of the people? " Every transgression and dis- obeditnce received its just recompense of reward." How, then, shall we escape ? Is it likely we should escape if we have neglected the only name given under Heaven among men by which we can be saved, and refuse that which it cost God so much to give ? If we neglect ( and notice that to neglect is to reject) there is no escape. Are we neglecting ? Are we drifting ? Let us ask the Son of God to come on board and stay us, and bring us into port. REV.
