" If there are telegraph offices in every direction over the world, there is a tele- graph office in Heaven that far exceeds anything on earth. God's telegraph office is very old ; we go back beyond the age of the hoary pyramids, to the very early morning of the world's history, and although we have not a recorded message as to words, we are sure that Abel used God's telegraph office, and God Himself said to Cain, ' The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground.' Enoch, Noah. Abraham sent messages and received answers. The recorded prayers in the Bible are almost all, like telegrams, short. In the messages we send to God let us be earnest, simple, short, as the Holy Ghost will help us to be. Now we will ! ook at a few specimens of messages. One sent from the cross of the dying thief, ' Lord, remember me when Thou comest into Thy Kingdom.' Peter's mes- sage, sharp, short and sudden, as he was sinking under the blue waters of the Lake of Galilee, ' Lord, save me.' Stephen, as he stood dauntless under a shower of stones, ' Lord Jesus, receive my spirit';' Lord, lay not this sin to their charge.' " If we go to the office and wire to some one asking a question, we naturally ex- pect a return message. We often ask, ' How long before I shall get a reply 1' If we turn to God's Book we see many instances of the Heavenly telegrams and the answers. After Eliezer's prayer, we read, ' And before I had done speaking in my heart, behold Rebekah came forth.' We do not speak into the air when we use God's provision- does not He say^ * Before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking. I will hear.' . " Sometimes we rush to the telegraph office, message in hand, and find the office closed. God's office is open day and night, winter and summer, the wires con nected with it are everywhere ; wherever there is a heart to pray, there is the wire, and the message speeds heavenward. ' When we carry a message to an earthly office, we know we have to pay accord- ing to the words sent. In God's office we pay nothing, not because there was never anything to pay, but because the Lord Jesu3 Christ paid it for us. He franks every prayer, and only in His name can our messages go through." J ' AGNES WESTON. Now Ready, price One Shilling. FIFTEENTH YEAR. MAYS BRITISH AND IRISH PRESS GOIDE for I s s s.
