Particulars concerning pet- sons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE if they are sufficient to enable actio,', to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of persons uliose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stoien property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15 s. per portrait, and of is. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, If for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent ; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant it in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 1. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. HONS. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and art alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted H the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editot notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded to as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, be in the utual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, Great Scotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drunwwnd t; Co.," Post Office Order payable at Charing Cross, Postal Order, or in Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 126, Strand, London, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. " The Valley of Decision."— Joel iii. 14. Children have a strange way of mixing up things, and when I was a little lad I connected these words with a place in the far west of this country. Away out on those wild cliffs, with the fierce Atlantic rolling in upon them, there is a valley which came to be in my mind a sort of Valley of Decision. There was a little stream hurrying on ; here, spreading out into a broad pool— there, narrowed into a swift river : but always and everywhere hastening away to the great sea. Is not that just like our life 1 Hurrying away, always, everywhere, to that great sea, Eternity. Day and night, working and resting, life hurrying on. How are we going ? Where is our life going ? The Valley of Decision is a place of sober thought. Circumstances connected with this valley suggested to me danger and deliverance — it was a place of solemn warning ; but these suggestions of thought, danger, de- liverance, and warning will not make it a Valley of Decision. It needs one thing more. In such a valley it may have been the prodigal had led the swine, near to such a steep place by the sea. He had much sober thought. Hunger, and want, and friendlessness make a man think. He thought about his folly, and his home, and his Father'* love, and that the servants had enough and to spare. But see ! he springs to his feet. Bare footed, ragged, perishing with want, he says, " I will arise and go to my Fa' her." Then it is the Valley of Decision. So people live for years in this valley of sober thought and solemn warning, but they don't make it a Valley of Decision. You perhaps have thought of God reverently, said your prayers morning and night, listened to the Word, and yet have never made up your mind to love Jesus and serve Him. Though you may have said, " I will arise and go to Him," yet you have never got up and come. You have never flung yourself down before Him, crying, " Lord, have mercy upon me I I want to be Thine. Take me, make me as one of Thy hired servants." You have never made it the Valley of Decision. We must make up our minds to do it. Men make up their minds about everything else and do it; but about this, men go hoping, and desiring, and think- ing, but never deciding— about this, the most important of all.
