It is the happiest life in the world ! Never need I be discouraged or down- hearted, if only I cling to the strong Saviour, and use His strength to enable me to climb higher and higher, ever upward. I see a man desiring to reach the summit of a lofty building. He puts his foot on the ladder and nimbly goes up, clinging and climbing. I see a sailor lad. He has tried the ropes and found them holding fast, and then away he goes aloft, clinging and climbing, until you see him high overhead. Now we want something strong and firm to cling to. To a rotten tree, to a wall that has lost its mortar, clinging soon comes to grief. It is of no use for us to cling to man, or the world, or pleasures, or human systems of religion, or the opinions of our fellow- creatures. Don't let us cling to some castle in the air, some bright promise of the future, or something that seems more substantial— a fortune, a prosperous business, a wife than whom you are persuaded there never was a better. Thank God for the gifts, but cleave to the Giver. Hearken to the com- mand ! " Thou shalt fear the Lord thy God. Him shalt thou serve and to Him shalt thou cleave." And what is cleaving but clinging? In every respect holding on to God; loving Him and pleasing Him all our days. " I will not let Thee go." Cling ! Jesus is so ahle to keep thee through all the ups and downs of this coming year ; so true, so faithful, so dependable, so wise. Cling to Him ! It is not only the clinging of safety, but the expression of love to Him. Get close, keep close,' as a confiding child. Perhaps ycu have never even come to Him. Instead of clinging you are far, far away from Hiin ; instead of climbing higher and higher you are necessarily more " tied and bound " by the spirit of the world, more aud more the slave of your own besetting infirmities. Remember, if we do not cling to Jesus, sin and guilt and death cling to us. If we do not climb high, we cannot remitin for ever on earth, but must fall low. Be persuaded, the half i3 not told us. No, not the half, nor the ten thousandth part of the glory— nor the half, nor the ten - thousandth part of the woe and despair of the bottomless pit. Choose— choose now. SPECIAL NOTICE.
