It is something worse than folly to forget that death hangs on life; to make death the crisis and life the trifle; whereas death merely pronounces the verdict, life settles it. It is solemn to die, only because it is awful to live. What we all need to learn more is how to walk with God hour by hour as a man walketh with his friend. The distinct assurance of His Divine Presence was the promise by ' ' ' " ' He said to Isaac, " I will ' Certainly, I will be H PHHHv. JHH - kiah it was written, " The Lord was with liim';'" and David found " when I awake I am still with thee." The appearances of Christ after His resurrection were not only infallible proofs of His havine risen, but also taught His disciples that He was always at hand, always thinking of them, watching over them; that after His ascension, though absent m body, He could be present in spirit and fulness of divine power. He would not leave them " orphans." The vision of the glorified Saviour nerved Stephen to die. To Paul, at Corinth, set in the midst of great dangers, the Lord spoke in a vision, " Be not afraid, for I am with thee." And the Revelation, which in the beginning tells us how the beloved apostle fell down as dead before the excellent glory of Jesus, in the end assures us that in the New Jerusalem " they shall seo His face. Let us take these truths for our own, live daily in the power of them. Doubtless there is a barrier between a holy God and His sinful creatures, but it is not on God s side, or of God's making. Christ our Lord is the same to- day that He was yesterday, and on earth His rule was, when He forgave men, to tell them so. THOROLD. THE FAMILY DOCTOR AND PEOPLE'S MEDICAL ADVISER. WEEKLY, ONE PENNY. MONTHLY, SIXPENCE. Quarterly Subscription post- free, Is. 8d. " THE FAMILY DOCTOR" seeks to fill a place hitherto unoccupied among English journals. It addresses itself to the great body of the people, offering them practical counsel on the restoration and preservation of health. Its " prescriptions,'' as far as possible, are free from technicalities, and its " advice " such as a competent Family Doctor would be likely to give. " THE FAMILY DOCTOR " does not attempt to rival the many valuable works by which the Medical Profession is assisted in the discharge of its duties, but it ex" tends the usefulness of those works, by analysing their contents and presenting them in a form adapted to the non- professional mind. The important subjects of Drainage, Ventilation, and Water Supply, as bearing on the healthiness of the Dwelling, is dealt with by experienced Sanitary Engineers and Officers of Health. " THE FAMILY DOCTOR" gives hints as to the regulation of the Sick Room and the Nursery, with full descriptions of such furniture and appliances as modern skill has provided for the comfort and help of Invalids. " THE FAMILY DOCTOR" also gives advice as to the Special Foods, Milks, and Beverages, of various kinds, now so largely offered for the use of both the healthy and the sick. Nursing Institutions, Hospitals, Convalescent Homes, and Hydropathic Esta- blishments will be described, and their special advantages pointed out.
