It will greatly facilitate the transaction of business, if in all telegrams to Great Scotland Yard regarding criminal matters, the name and official designation of the sender are telegraphed. FUGITIVE OFFENDERS. A case has come under the notice of the Editor, in which a person whose apprehension was sought in England, and who was described in the POLICE GAZETTE, gave himself up to the Colonial Police. The prosecutor declined to take any further action in the matter, but the case necessitated the dispatch of two telegrams, the cost of which had to be refunded by him. To avoid such expense, the Editor requests, that if there is reason to believe that a fugitive offender is likely to go to the Colonies, and the prosecutor is un- willing to incur any expense, with a view to obtain his surrender, a notification be made in the communi- cation sent to this Office to the effect that the offender is not to be arrested beyond the United Kingdom. The necessity for the adoption of such a course will be apparent from the fact that the POLICE GAZETTE is circulated in the Colonies cription of JAMES MURPHY, whose apprehension is sought for the wilful murder of a Police Constable at Dodworth, 31st ult. Telegraph Address—" " Willing's, London.' " Save ine, and I shall be saved."— Jer. xvii. 14. There is a solemn meaning couched under the metaphor of Eccles. xi. 3, " In the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be." The tree will not only lie as it falls, but it will aho fall as it leans. And the great question which everyone ought to bring home to his own bosom without a moment's delay is this : " What is the in- clination of my soul ? Does it, with all its affections, lean towards God or from Him 1" As we do so, we become aware of our natural enmity to God, of our in- ability to even lean towards Him— and in our helplessness we cast ourselves wholly upon Him. " Save me and I shall be saved" is our prayer; and His reply comes, " Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love ; therefore with loving- kindness have I drawn thee "— drawn us to lean towards Himself— drawn us from what we are to be what we are not. Oh, yes! I'm sinful, that I know, For God and conscience tell me so; But yet for all my sin and woe, I cannot feel! I know the truth, I'm deeply read, And Bible doctrines fill my head, But oh! my heart is cold aud dead- I cannot feel! I've tried to break it oft, but no— It just gets harder every blow, And what to do I do not know— I cannot feel! If I could feel enough oppressed Then Jesus Christ might give me rest; But with a stone within my breast, I cannot feel If I could weep and mourn for sin, Then my salvation would begin ; But what a hardened state I'm in— I cannot feel! Poor sinner, whosoe'er thou art, Bewailing thus a stony heart, Apply to Jesus, He'll impart The power to feel. THBPOLICE WATCH, AS SUPPLIED TO NEARLY EVERY FORCE IN THE UNITED KINGDOM.
