P, IRETOW & CO,, 92; SRACECHURCti ST., LONDON, E. C, WHAT TO READ. These are such busy days, you and I have 110 time ( have we^ any taste ?) to read trash. Above everything else, make your Bible your one absorbing study. I expect many of you find the Bible a dull book. Shall I tell you why ? Because, as yet, you have no heart interest in its one theme—" Jesus." You see no beauty in Him, and you have therefore no taste for His words, which are sweeter than honey. If Jesus were the beloved of your soul, if He were " chief est among ten thousand," would you not enjoy His " love letters," as Rutherford calls them ? If Jesus is nothing to you here, He will be nothing to you through all eternity. If you have no portion in Jesus now, you will have none in Him by- and- by. But some of you are not satisfied that matters should stand thus between you and the Lord Jesus. You are conscious of your need, and you are longing for Him who alone can supply it. Your heart is dreary and desolate, and you are yearning for the bright beams of His love and joy and peace to shine with all their living glow into your soul. Not ten minutes since, as I sat writing, a gloomy sky and a heavy snowstorm were the only outlook from my window; now the sun has burst through the dark mantle of cloud, and is gilding the earth with light and glory. What a contrast! Yes ; but only a faint picture of the marvellous transformation in a soul, when its dark, icy recesses are penetrated by the light and warmth of Christ's love. Do you long for all this to take place in your soul ? Whence that longing ? From your own dead soul ? Impossible ! Was it born of the will of man ? Impossible ! It is the Spirit of God wooing you to Christ. Do not resist; do not refuse ; do not procrastinate. Yield yourself at once— now. " Just as I am, without one plea, But that Thy blood was shed for me, And that Thou bidst me come to Thee, 0, Lamb of God, I come! " ROYAL IRISHWAREHOUSE ALL POLICEMEN SHOULD REFER TO MESSRS.
