FUGITIVE OFFENDERS. A case has come under the notice of the Editor, in which a person whose apprehension was sought in England, and who was described in the POLICE GAZETTE, gave himself up to the Colonial Police. The prosecutor declined to take any further action in the matter, but the case necessitated the dispatch of two telegrams, the cost of which had to be refunded by him. To avoid such expense, the Editor requests, that if there is reason to believe that a fugitive offender is likely to go to the Colonies, and the prosecutor is un- willing to incur any expense, with a view to obtain his surrender, a notification be made in the communi- cation sent to this Office to the effect that the offender is not to be arrested beyond the United Kingdom. The necessity for the adoption of such a course will be apparent from the fact that the POLICE GAZETTE is circulated in the Colonies. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. ALSO SUITABLE FOR THE ARMY AND RAILWAY SERVICES. THE SOINGLESS CREED. " Scepticism, be it remembered, never sings. It has nothing to sing about. Music must have both a past and a future, but infidelity has neither. The fate of the doubter should be studied carefully by all who are looking with sympathy upon any form of unbelief. The question should be asked, ' What will this bring to me of peace of soul, either now, or later in life? Has it any prop which I can lean upon, when I need a friend 1 Is there any brightness in it for me, when the last shadows gather about my eyei V It is only too true that it is nothing but a terrible negation. On the other hand, the Faith, which it opposes, has all the joy of a cer- tainty. It is a rod, a staff through every step of the pilgrimage of life. It brings a happiness which no sorrow can disturb. It is a steady light, which shines on through the years, and leads into the perfect day. Infidelity brings a barren life, a dark close, a wretched future. The true believer in Christ, happy himself, renders others happy. Victorious in life, he triumphs over death and the grave, and even then his joy has only just begun." " Christ is a tried foundation. He has been tried by God and by devils ; by many who are now in glory, and by others who are on their way there, and He has never failed. All the stories founded on Him become living stories, and they are all cemented together by His Blood."
