All announcements for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications upon them should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, GBEAT SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON-, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTB, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, ani the exact conditions be clearly stated. ! 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be prominently inserted, with detailed particulars, at a cost of 15s. per portrait, and of Is. 6d. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, including the expense of engraving on wood. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and, if the name of such person be required to be inserted, and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analagoits thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehendtd or if Men property bear a number, and an alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents, or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases, the officer signing the request for insertion of any announcement, will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may remit from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only, bt in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering Utter. , 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, GreScotland Yard, by cheque, crossed " Drummond $ Co.," Post Office Order payable at Charing Cross, Postal Order, nr Stamps. 13. Advertisements are accepted for the POLICE GAZETTE through Mr. James Willing, 126, Strand, Lond » n, the sole Agent, who will furnish the rates on application. 14. If Christmas is to mean anything to us, it will bring prominently before us this question, which again this week we will consider. We will take an Old Testament illustration of what people " do " with Christ. In various ways the Ark was a type of the Lord Jesus, and God settled what should be " done " with it. It was ever to be the centre of the Israelites' camp, whether in movement or at rest. In 1 Samuel we find a contrast in the human estimate of how it should be treated. In chapter iv. we find a superstitious longing for the presence of the ark in their midst, because trouble and defeat had come upon Israel, followed by an oft- repeated wailing, " The ark of God is taken," " the glory is departed." In chapters v. and vi., in the hands of the Philistines, our old question is repeated verbatim—" What shall we do with the ark?" Some said straight out, " Send it away." (" They besought Him that He would depart out of their coasts.") Some said, " Send it away, certainly; it troubles us. But do it civilly ; show a little respect; put a little offering inside." Some received it joyfully, but with no higher feeling, apparently, than euriosity. After this for nearly 50 years it is entirely neglected except by Abinadab, who receives it, and by David, who is interrupted by wars in his thoughts of bringing it back. At last he fetches it, but not in God's way ; and for direct disobedience to Numbers iv. 14, vii. 9, judgment falls upon Uzzah, who, being a Levite, should have known well what God had said. David is displeased and afraid, and for three months does not discover the root of his mistake. ( See 1 Chron. xv. 2, 15.) During those three months, another name is recorded as having " received" the ark. " They that honour me I will honour," and it is touching to read how continually Obed Edom is mentioned. It seems as if God could not repeat his name often enough, or the ways in which He blessed him and his house, appointing him doorkeeper and singer in the sacred services, and his sons also mentioned by name, the strong and valiant, " for God blessed him " — police of the Holy Place.
