FUGITIVE OFFENDERS. A case has come under the notice of the Editor, in which a person whose apprehension was sought in England, and who was described in the POLICE GAZETTE, gave himself up to the Colonial Police. The prosecutor declined to take any further action in the matter, but the case necessitated the dispatch of two telegrams, the cost of which had to be refunded by him. To avoid such expense, the Editor requests, that if there is reason to believe that a fugitive offender is likely to go to the Colonies, and the prosecutor is un willing to incur any expense, with a view to obtain his surrender, a notification be made in the communi cation sent to this Office to the effect that the offender is not to be arrested beyond the United Kingdom. The necessity for the adoption of such a course will be apparent from the fact that the POLICE GAZETTE is circulated in the Colonies. ( Late SnperintendflDt X Division Metropolitan Police.) WHAT SHALL I DO THEN WITH JESUS? With comparatively little sense of its supreme importance did Pilate ask that question, the question which sooner or later each soul must answer, the question which, in degree, is being answered by each soul every moment— Do I know Him or do I not 1 Have I eternal life which is mine in Jesus or have I not 1 Is He master of my life and all that makes up my life, or is Satan ? What am I doing with Jesus ? Am I by forgetting, neglecting, ignoring Him, trying to persuade my- self that it does not signify what is done with Jesus ? Such treatment is not nega- tive— I actually accept or actually reject Him minute by minute. There can be no half- way house of" doing neither one thing nor the other." When the Lord Jesus was upon earth, we see this fact practically illustrated. They received Him, or they received Him not, summed up the simple fact in every instance. Some be- sought Him, straight out, to depart; some only made Him feel that there was " no room for Him." Some waited to see how things would go with Him before they made up their minds. Some said, " This is the Messias." Some followed Him afar off; some were ever with Him ; some came as close to Him as they possibly could. All received Him, or received Him not. A study of what they did with Jesus may enable us far more clearly and honestly to answer Pilate's question to- day— What am I doing? " What shall I do then with Jesus ?" Am I full of head- knowledge concerning the Cross at Calvary, and never appropriating the value of that Sacri- fice to myself— He loved me— He gave Himself for me 1 Am I reading and hearing about Him constantly, and yet not actually touching Him ? Am I allowing self to be the centre of my life, and by crowding Him out of my heart and thoughts, practi- cally asserting day by day, I will not have this Man to rule over me ? Am I per- fectly familiar with his " mighty works " upon earth, and . vet remaining as spiritu- ally blind, and dumb, and deaf, and lame, as if no Great Physician is ever living at the Eight Hand of God " for me ? Am I constantly saying, " Thine is the king- dom, the power, and the glory," without entering the kingdom, or using the power, or desiring the glory myself ? When " every eye shall see Him," shall I recognise Him as " This is Jesus whom ye crucified," or as Him that loved me and washed me from my sins in His own Blood 1 " As many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the Sons of God."
