SPECIAL NOTICE, FUGITIVE OFFENDERS. A case has come under the notice of the Editor, in which a person whose apprehension was sought in England, and who was described in the POLICE GAZETTE, gave himself up to the Colonial Police. The prosecutor declined to take any further action in the matter, but the case necessitated the dispatch of two telegrams, the cost of which had to be refunded by him. To avoid such expense, the Editor requests, that if there is reason to believe that a fugitive offender is likely to go to the Colonies, and the prosecutor is un- willing to incur any expense, with a view to obtain his surrender, a notification be made in the communi- cation sent to this Office to the effect that the offender is not to be arrested beyond the United Kingdom. The necessity for the adoption of such a course will be apparent from the fact that the POLICE GAZETTE is circulated in the Colonies. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. GUILTY, Oil NOT GUILTY ? W hich will you plead ? Perhaps you will say, " Not guilty, for I have neither robbed nor murdered ; indeed, 1 have done harm to no one." You feel clear as regards your fcllow- creature; and as regards God are you equally so ? Let us take His Law in hand, and consider a little. His First Commandment is broken by trust- ing in and loving other things more than Himself— Matt. xxii. 37. Can you stand that test? His Second respects the manner in which He is to be worshipped. Have you always done so in spirit and in truth ? Never with outward form and ceremony only ? His Third Commandment have you kept ? Profane words may indeed have been far from you, but have you never suffered His holy name to pass through your lips with- out a due sense of the word you were speaking_? Even in prayer and in reading the Scriptures, has it never been pronounced carelessly, without thought of Him it represents ? Can He hold you guiltless ? Have you never robbed God of His Holy Day, concerning which His Fourth Commandment teaches us His thoughts. Do we need to take another look at the Second ' lable of His Law ? Does " not guilty " still hold good ? Have you really loved your fellow- man as yourself ? Have you always done to him as you would have had him do to you? Have you honoured parents ? Known no rising of anger, which, if unrestrained by the grace of God, might lead to murder? Had no impure desire, which in His sight is as adultery ? Realised that ret fraud is theft ? That every uncharitable thought would be a breach of the Ninth Commandment, and every covetous wish a transgression of the Tenth? Guilty, or not guilty? What will you plead? If guilty, what is to be done? Cast yourself on the mer « y of the Judge. Come to Him through the living way, Jesus, and He is ready to pardon, to cleanse you in the fountain open for all sin, and to clothe you in the garment of Hisown Righteousness. J. W. A.
