FOR stealing carpets, < fcc., on the 8rd inst., also for failing to report, Andrew Wilson Law, alias Henry Fisher Salmond :— A ship's engineer, native of Stirlingshire, 36 years of age, 5 feet 8J inches liigh, slender figure, dark brown hair and moustache, brown eyes, dark complexion, scar on bridge of nose. He was convicted at Newry, 22nd October, 1877, of larceny after previous conviction, and sentenced to 7 years' penal servitude, and 5 years' Police supervision, and released from Her Majesty's Convict Prison, Lusk, 21st February, 1884 ; since then he has been employed in various capacities; whilst here he was employed as a van- driver, and since absconding has applied for a situation as hotel porter. DESCRIPTION of two men, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with having, on the 5th March, 1886, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, entered the house of Robert M'Clernahan, of Ballymurphy, and, after threatening th? inmates, broke open a strong box and forcibly abstracted about £ 8 therefrom:— 1. Sunlll^ eyes, small dark moustache, dark sorish eyeis, red no%> pale complexion, thin face, slight make, about 6 feet high, about 30 years of age; wore a black jerry hat, long black coat, dark trowsers, and new boots ; is a supposed tramp. 2. Blue eyes, fresh complexion, stout make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 28 years of age ; wore a brown coat torn on right breast, dark trowsers, and old shoes much worn in the heels; is a supposed tramp. DESCRIPTION of Thomas Cullen, native of Belfast, who stands charged with having, within the last six months, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, embezzled the sum of £ 133, the property of his employer, Michael Car:— Blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, round face, medium make, 5 feet inches high, about 22 years of age, fair hair; wore a felt hat, dark coat, trowsers, and vest, also wore a blue nap overcoat; is a pawnbroker's assistant. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Murphy, native of Belfast, who stands charged with haviDg, in the barony of Upper Belfast, parish of Shankhill, failed to report himself:— Large sore scar below left knee, cut scar right side of chin, scar on right breast, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, thin face, medium make, 5 feet 6 inches high, about 26 years of age, dark brown hair; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of a heifer, the property of Myles M'Loughlin, which was stolen from the lands of Roo, parish of Killinagh, barony of Tullyhaw, on the 24th day of March, 1885 :— A yellow heifer, 3 years old, in calf, hair very long about the ears and between the horns, portion of hair rubbed off the right shoulder, clumsy bushy tail, in middling condition ; value for about £ 8. DESCRIPTION of James Murtagh, native of For- m ulagh, county Longford, who stands charged with having, on the 5th March, 1885, in the barony of Tullyhunco, parish of Scrabby, stolen £ 38 from the house of his broiher- in- law, John Langtry, of Dingins, county Cavan :— Cut mark over right ear, shaves all his face, small dark moustache, brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, long face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark hair; wore a round black hat, dark coat, trowsers, anil vest; is a labourer. Clare. DESCRIPTION of undermentioned articles which were stolen from the business house of Thomas Peacocke, at Kilrush, parish of Kilrush, and barony of Moyarta, between the hours of 8 o'clock P. M. and 11 o'clock A. M., on the 18th March, 1885:— Two silver lever watches, value for about £ 3 each ; a plain silver Geneva watch, no descrip- tion ; a lady's gold watch with chased back and white dial, without glass, and dial slightly cracked ; a largo gold watch without hands or glass, back plain and slightly dinged, gold dial figured on the centre; a gold watch, having gold dial with second hand de- ficient, with a gold Albert chain attached, with rather square links, about nine carat fine; a silver necklet with silver locket attached, chain very massive, anchor chain pattern, locket open in the centre, having a compartment for holding perfume at bottom, upper portion of opening like an ordinary locket; said articles were taken off a brass bar on which they were exposed for sale at the window. Nobody slept in the concern from which they said articles were stolen on that night, and the value of all the jewellery property so stolen is about £ 17. Kilrush, March 20, 1885. ( 67665 o.— 18106.) DESCRIPTION of James Dwyer, alias Baldwin, alias Talbot, native of Mitchelstown, county Cork, who. stands chained with having, on the night of the 28th day of- February, 1885, in the barony of Cork, parish of St. Nicholas, escaped from Cork Male Prison, while undergoing a term of 2 years' imprisonment from 3rd January, 1884, for stealing a donkey;— Lost all his teeth, rather stooped with short neck, dark foxy whiskers all round face, wore a moustache, brown or blue eyes, ordinary nose, fresh complexion, thin'' jace, proportionate make, 5 feet 6 inches high, abot^ 50 years of age, brown • hair, turning gray, cut shortjwore the prison clothes, all dark gray with black stripes, short jacket, blue and" white kerchief, low shoes, and dark brown stockings with white stripes; is a labourer or stone- cutter. Cork, South, March 1,1885. ( 67332 c.— 17577.) DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who, on the 3rdf February, 1885, absconded from the St. Patrick's Reformatory School at Upton, co. Cork :— Patrick Buttler, 17 years of age, 4 feet 11 inches high, proportionate make, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, ordinary nose, medium mouth; Hugh Mulholland, who left his home on the 14th July,.' 1884, has not since been heard of; Hue- and- Cry, 21 st October, 1884. ' John Carroll ( robbery), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 17th October, 1884. fornj^ ity' belonged to Cappawhite, county Tipperary ; his^ nyts reside at Beggins. The school dress consists of corduroy trowsers and sleeved corduroy waistcoat, dark tweed coat, leather belt, blue striped shirt, all with Reformatory stamp 5 Glengarry cap, and nailed boots fastened with leather straps. The mother of this boy is a blind woman, begging about the country, having three or four children along with her. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expense of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 30039 M.— 56344,) The young man and woman described in Hue- and- Cry of 27th February, names and native places unknown, who stand charged with cattle stealing, have not been arrested. The three persons, names and native places unknown ( charged with having robbed Thomas M'Grath), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 23rd Septem- ber, 1884. Young offender, Michael Mahony, belonging to the city of Cork, not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 26th August, 1884. John Hogan ( manslaughter), not arrested; Hue- and- Cry, 12th August, 1884. Donegal. DESCRIPTION of Mary Feeny or Logue, native of Magilligan or Eglinton, county Londonderry, who stands charged with having, on the 20th February, 1885, in the barony of Innishowen, parish of Muff, unlawfully abandoned' a male infaut, thereby en- dangering its life ( see Hue- and- Cry, dated 24th Feb- ruary, 1885):— Dark eyes, regular nose, dark com- plexion, medium make, 4 feet 10 inches high, about 25 or 30 years of age, shining black hair; wore a Cashmere dress trimmed with black satin, black jacket trimmed with fur, and yellow necktie; is a shirtmaker; stated she was married to a man named Logue. DESCRIPTION of two persons, supposed to be Michael Kelly and his wife, native places unknown, who stand charged on suspicion with having, on the night of 30th November, or morning of 1st December, 1884, in the barony of Banagh, parish of Killaghtee, murdered one Bridget Cunningham:— 1. Swaggering gait, brown moustache, small side whiskers, brown eyes, regular nose, rather pale com- plexion, round full face, stout make, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, about 35 or 40 years of age, black hair, turning gray ; wore a round black felt hat, old gray coat rather long, dark coloured trowsers; is an itfnerant fiddler. 2. Blue eyes, long pointed nose, pale complexion, thin face, slisht make, 5 feet 3 inches high; about 30 years of age, saniiy hair; wore an old dark gray shawl; is a tramp, and accompanies No. 1 from town to town. DESCRIPTION of William M'Areavey, native of Drumkeera, near Dromara, county Down, who stands charged with having, on the 21st September, 1884, in the barony of Upper Iveagh, parish of Kilmegan, fired shots at the Police during a riot at Castlewellan, and with having failed to surrender to his bail, for trial at Downpatrick Spring Assizes, 1885:— Broad shoulders, gray eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, regular face, stout make, 5 feet 10 inches high, about 25 years of age, brown hair; is a van driver. Dublin. , DESCRIPTION of James Waters, alias M'Manus, who, at Coolock Petty Sessions, on 16th instant, was committed for trial, at the next Commission, on the charge of having, on 16th August, 1882, at the races of Baldoyle, in the barony- of Coolock, stolen from the person of Garard Irvine a silver watch, for which he was arrested in the early part Of this month in the city of Manchester:— Scar on lower lash of right eye; slightly hump- backed, blue eyes, regular nose, pale complexion, thin face, prominent forehead, high cheek bones, slight make. 5 feet 6 inches high, about 28 years of age, light brown hair, whiskers, beard, and moustache. When arrested he had the following articles in his possession :— A ring with ruby set between two diamonds ; a large gold stud ; and a gold chain, Albert curb pattern, 18 carat. Mary Bligh, alias Lynch, native of Ballymoe, who disappeared from her home, in the barony of Bally- moe, parish of Drumatemple, on or about the 9th January, 1884, has not been since heard of; Hue- and- Cry, 28th March, 1884. DESCPIPTION of Patrick Donoghue ( mother's sur- name Hurley), native of Fussa, who stands charged with having, on the 25th March, 1885, in the barony of Glenarough, parish of Kilgarvan, assaulted Daniel Shine, by striking him on the head with a mattock, from the effects of which his life is in danger s— Brown eyes, regular nose, fresh complexion, round face, stout make, 5 feet 4 inches high, about 25 years of age, light Brown hair; wore a soft hat, dark tweed coat and trowsers, and light tweed vest; is a labourer. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Carmody Ave of Lisca- hane, Tralee, who stands charged w? mhaving, 0^ 1 the 21st March, 1885, in the barony of Trughenacmy, parish of Cloherbrien, seriously assaulted Cornelius Doyle, whereby his life is in danger ;— Rather long neck, looks down when spoken to, blue eyes, regular nose, fair complexion, medium make, 5 feet 8 inches high, about 24 years of age, fair hair; wore a black cloth coat, tweed trowsers and vest; is a farmer's son. DESCRIPTION of Patrick Flanagan, native of Royal Oak, who, on the 24th February, 1885, in the barony of Carbury, parish of Ballinadrimna, strayed away from his employer at Moyvally while in a state of insanity, and may do injury to himself:— Pearl on right eye, good- looking, erect carriage; brown eyes, regular nose, dark complexion, broad face, stout make, 6 feet 9 inches high, about 27 or 28 years of age, dark hair; wore a felt hat, brown coat, trowsers, and vest; is a labourer. robertstown, March 29, 1885. ' DESCRIPTION of two asses, the property of Thomas Christain, which were stolen out of a stable at Mooretown, parish of Rathcoffey, barony of Ikeathy and Oughteranny, on the night of the 19th or morning of the 20th of March, 1885 :—• 1. A light gray mare » ss, pretty old, in fair condition » wanting a fore shoe; value for £ l lOe. 2. A dark gray mare ass, 3 years old, small black spot on right hip upon which no hair has grown, low- sized, in good condition; value for £ 1 10j. Supposed to have been stolen by travelling tinkers. DESCRIPTION of~ a jennet's spring dray, the property of Maria Coughlan, which was stolen from the high road outside her door at Sallins, parish of Bodens- town, barony of North Naas, on the 20th day of March^ i. 885:— A jennet's spring dray, heels much woraJ" and one split, worn in centre of body by carrying porter barrels, Thomas Coughlan painted on zinc on off shaft, body painted a dirty blue, wheels red; value £ 3. Supposed to have been taken by travelling tinkers. Naas, March 23, 1885. ( 67653 0.— 18090.) ^ DESCRIPTION of James Doherty, native of Kingsbog Commons, who stands charged with having, on the 22nd February, 1885, in the barony of West Offaly, parish of Kildangan, seriously assaulted Denis Dempsey, gamekeeper to the Marquis of Drogheda, at Eskerhill, when warned off the land :— Ill- looking, brown eyes, hooked nose, pale yellow complexion, full round face, stout make, 5 feet 7 or 8 iuches high, about 25 years of age, dark hair; wore a fur cap, black tweed coat and trowsers, strong boots; may now be wearing jerry hat, tweed suit with white or gray spots; is a notorious poacher. H. Gaussen, Esq., of Newtown Villa, Kilcullen:— Shaves all h' 8 fftce except moustache, which is dark;; dark complexion, round face, 5 feat 6 or 7 inches high, about 40 years of age, dark brown hair; wore a § oft jerry hat, can be identified, dark cloth monkey jacket and dark trowsers, both greasy; has the appearance of a butcher's porter. DESCRIPTION of Michael O'Brien, native of Dun- more, county Waterford, who stands charged with having, on the night of 1st or morning of 2nd March, 1885, in the barony of Knocktopher, parish of Derry- nahinch,' stolen a bullock, the property of Catherine Walsh, of Castlegannon, and sold the animal at Waterford Fair on 2ud instant:— Evil and two black marks on neck, high cheek bones, gray or blue eyes, bng straight nose, fair complexion, stout make, 5 or 7 inches high, about 25 or 30 years of age, Wown hair, fair moustache and whiskers, shaves his chin ; wore a soft hat, dark tweed coat, gray trowsers, and dark tweed vest; is a labourer. Description of the bullock :— Three years old, whitish colour with blue shade, long horns, legs rod from the knees down, in good condition; value for £ 12. Pill town, March 4, 1885. DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender who on the 6th March, 1885, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's County:— Henry Dalton, No. 759, 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, medium make, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, ordinary nose and mouth, oval visage, burn marks on chest, dots on left arm ; for- merly belonged to South Dublin Union; parents bothdead ; has a cousin in Lucan; may go there. The school dress, all with Reformatory stamp, consists of corduroy trowsers, Vest, and tunic, elastic belt, blue cloth cap ( Scotch), and strong blucher boots. The Manager of the Reformatory will defray the expensrf of his conveyance, if arrested, to the nearest Justice, on remand, and will reward the person who may capture him with £ 1. ( 30194 M.— 56626.) DESCRIPTION of the undernamed young offender, who on the 23rd February, 1885, absconded from the Philipstown Reformatory School, King's County:— Thomas Bryan, 788, 17 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, stout make, fresh complexion, brown hair, brown eyes, ordinary nose, regular mouth, oval visage, The POLICE GAZETTE, OR HUE-. The school dress, all with Reformatory ' stamp, i consists of corduroy trowsers, vest, and tunic, elastic belt, blue cloth cap ( Scotch), and strong blucher J boots.
