A recent case has come under the notice of the Editor, in which a person whose apprehension was sought in England, and who was described in the POLICE GAZETTE, gave himself up to the Colonial Police. To avoid such expense, the Editor requests, that if " there is reason to believe that a fugitive offender is likely to go to the Colonies, and the prosecutor is un- willing to incur any expense, with a view to obtain his surrender, a notification be made in the communi- cation sent to this Office to the effect that the offender is not to be arrested beyond the United Kingdom. YOU CAN NEVER RUB IT OUT. One pleasant afternoon a lady was sitting with her little son, a light- haired boy, five years of age. The child was amusing himself in printing his name on paper. Suddenly his busy fingers stopped. He had made a mistake, and, wetting his finger, he tried again and again to rub the mark out as he had been accus- tomed to do on his slate. " My son," said his mother, " do you know that God writes down all you do in a book 1 He writes every naughty word, every dis- obedient act, and every time you indulge in temper, and, my boy, you can never rub it out." The little boy's face grew very red, and in a moment tears ran down his cheeks. His mother looked earnestly on him, but she said nothing more. At length he came softly to her side, threw his arms round her neck, and wh. jpered, " Can the blood of Jesus Christ rub it ou.?' It is written, 1 The Blood of Jesus Christ His So t cleanseth from all sin." ' If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean, yet shall Thou plunge me in the diti h, and mine own clothes shall abhor me."— Job ix. 30- J1. " Though thou wash thee with nitre and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord God."— Jer. ii. 22. " Wash me and I shall be whiter than snow."— Ps. li 7.
