RlOtlC*.— It ii requeued that til communication! for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. C. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Namt is given, it is indispensably necessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor most be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. They should contain no expressions holding out any expectation of reward for the return of the property, without the app: " ebension of the offender. It la particularly requested that when, owing either to Insufficiency or incorrectness of the address or ether- wise, Copies of this Gazette are delivered to persons, to whom they are not addressed, or who are not now tntitled to receive them, such Copies may bo at once retnrned through the Post to " The Editor, Bow Street, London." PRISON and PC LICE AUTHORITIES are requested to be good enough to inform the Editor of the abolition of Gaols, Stations, See., and of any circumstances rendering the supply of the " Police Gazette" no longer necessary. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Bttween 7 and 7' 30 p. m. on 26th ultimo, some person placed on the down liae of the Great Western Railway, near the County Lane Bridge, between Codsall aid Albrighton Stations, a number ot larye stones, thereby endangering the lives of the persons travelling on the railway, and the men in charge of the trains. £ 100 reward will be paid to any one • who shall give such information as will lead to the apprehen- sion and conviction of the offender or offenders. ARSON AND WILFUL BURNING. Wanted at Newbury for arson on 3rd instant:— a tramp, 58 years of age, 5 feet 21 inches high, ruddy complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, proportionate build, long face, thin vandy beard and moustache, dirty appearance, heart tattooed on back of left band, and on left arm, blue mark on right • wrist. 8upposed to have been a sailor, is of dirty appearance, and is very active ; dressed in rough dark coat, reaching to the knees, fustian trousers, which have been washed, but are low very dirty and torn 2 or 3 inches up from the bottom on the inside of each leg, soft black billyeo; k hat, and old boots, not laced ; carried an ash stick, and has ( he appearance of a drover. Information to Mr. Supt. Bennett, Berks Consta- bulary, NEWBURY.— Bow- street December 7. ROBBERY AND LARCENY FROM THE PERSON. Stolen from the person about 7 p. m. on 26th instant: — a Bilver lever centre second stop Watch, No. 44157, maker 1 Har- greaves, Liverpool,' a strong silver Guard attached, and about 8s. in money. By a man about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in green coloured cloth jacket, single breasted cloth vest, cord trousers, cloth cap with paak, turns down behind and ties over top, and clogs, was carrying a small bass with strap attached which passed over his shoulder. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Burnham,' on 21st ultimo :— a silver Geneva Wavcb, small piece broken out of face, small piece broken cut of face on figure 6, and ' M. Waldsn,' scratched on inside case ; a lady's silver Geneva Watch, glass crackcd, ouia'de case chased ; 2 gold, 18- car. it stamped, Alberts, one curb pattern, the other alternate short and long links, with gold telescope Toothpick attached; a lady's silver Albert, with small sd ver Tasseljattached ; a g > ld Brooch, flowered in centre ; a plated gold Brooch, shape of hand ; a pair of gold Ear- drops; a parr of gold Earrings; a silver telescope Pencil and Penholder combined. Informa- tion to Inspector Ackers, Essex Constabulary, LATCHINGDON. — Bow- street, December 7. Absconded, charged with Housebreaking at Hindley :— a man, 21 years of ago, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fair com- plexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on left arm, which has been broken, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in dark corduroy trous- ra, short jacket, and dark cloth cap. Infor- mation to the County Police Office, PEMBERTON.— B w- street, December 7. Between 8 p. m. 28th and 5 a. m. 29th ultimo, the office of the Whitwell Spinning Company's Mill, at Newchurcb, was broken and entered, and about £ 18 stolen therefrom, consist- ing of one £ 10 and one £ 5 Bank of England Notes ( numbers not known), 2 Sovereigns, 1 Crown Piece, and the remainder in small Silver ; rlso a long mottled cloth Overcoat, has been worn sometime, but is in good condition, pocket on each hip, and ticket pocket, each with laps, double- breasted, plain collar, hor J or bone buttons, tab oa back of neck with maker's name ' Greenhalgb, Bacup'. An old overcoat was found in an outbuilding, near the Mill; it is dark snuff- coloured cloth, four black bone buttons on right side of breast, the button holes covered over ( fly- front fashion), small brown velvet collar, torn at both hip pockets, which are without laps, and would fit a man about 5 feet 7 inches high, and proportionate builcl. In the pockets was found a little cut hay, and the coat appears to belong to a person engiged about staoles or cowsheds. May be seen. Information to Mr. Supt. Henderson, County Police Office, BACUP.— Jiof- stre- t, Decembtr 3. Stolen on night of 30th ultimo, by means of burglary : — a light- coloured Mackintosh ; a black Melton Coat; a black Buperfine Coat and Vest; a black ribbed Overcoat ; and a pair of blue mixture trousers, have all been worn. Supposed by two men, from 20 to 25 years of age, one 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, the other about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high ; the shortest man left bis own trousers behind. HORSE AND CATTLE STEALING R03ERT KNIGHT, described in Police Gazette of 29lh October last, wanted for fraud, was apprehended by police at Windsor, on 1st instant, and committed to the ensuing Quarter Sessions at Reading. Ha* been previously convicted. Information to Mr. Supt. Taylor, MAIDENHEAD. — Bow- street, December 7. Stolen from Shalford on the night of 3rd instant :— an iron- grey mare Pony, 13 hands high, 7 years old, long mane snd tail, very rough coat, in good condition. The black pony, advertised in Police Gazette of 30thult. » as stolen at Farnham, on 16th ultimo, has been found.— Boiv- s'. reet, December 7. Description of a Bullock, stolen from the Hill Pasture at Kilsyth, between 7th aud 10 h ultimo: — it is a 3- year- cld Ayrshire, white and light colour, branded ou right or off horn with the letter ' S ', is in fair condition. Stolen from a field in Chadc'esley Cor bit t, on or f. bout the 10th ultimo :— a roan- coloured Bullock, Ayrshire breed, 16 months old, white streak on forehead, long hair, aud in good condition. Supposed stolen from a drove of Welch ponies, at Rugby Fair, on 22nd ult'mo :— a dark chesnut mare Pony, about il hands high, 4 or 5 years old, not broken in, supposed two clips on far hip. Supposed stolen on 16th ultimo, from a field at Manor Form, Perivale, near Ealing :— Three bay Mares— first, 7 yrs. old, 15 hands 3 inches high, black points, splint on near fore- leg, No. ' 19 ' branded on near fore hoof ; second, 7 year* old, 15 hands 1 inch high, black marking, hind coronets and star on forehead white, No. ' 61' branded on near fore hoof ; third, 6 years old, 15 hands 1 inch high, off fore and near hind coronet i whit", No. ' 214' branded on near fore hoof. A reward of £ 10 will be paid by Mr. S. W. Wilson, 519, King's Road, Chelsea, to any person who will give stub information as will lead to their recovery. Stolen from a field at Bixon, Stafford, during the night of 14th instant:— a bay Horse, about 15 hands high, oil' fore- kuee enlarged, white spot on chine, about 7 years old, aLcl in fair condition. WALTER MU3KITT, advertised in Police Gazette of 5th instant, as being wanted for stealirg a clock ( recovered), at Whitmore, near Newcasile- ucder- Lyme, on 13th ultimo, has been apprehended. A. Hill, Chief Supt. BURSLEJI - Bcno- strec', December 7. The two men adveitised in Police Gazette of 3rd instant, as wanted for larceny at the Guildhall Coffee House, New- bury, have been apprehended and are now under remand :— the first gives the name of FREDERICK BROMLEY, a carpeuter, of 19, St. Murtin's- lane, Leicester ; and the second JAMES CLARK, a carpenter and bellhanger, of 20, High- street, Birmingham ; upon them were found railway tickets from Compton to Paddington, and they are both supposed to be London thieves. In their possession was found a com- plete set of housebreaking implements, and also a gold double- case keyless Watch, No. 6000, maker James Murray, Royal Exchange, London, together with several go'd and other lings, one snake pattern, also settings from brooches, rings, & e., supposed the proceeds of other robberies. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt Bennett, Berks Constabulary, NEWBURY. — Bow- street, Decsmber 7. Wanted on a warrai t for obtaining the sum of £ 5 10s. on the 3rd July, 1878, under false pretences : — G. HOARE, a batting man, about 37 years of age, 5 feet 4 inches high, fair complexion, slight whiskers, prominent cheek bone3; dressed :> jen. leman jockey; his last kLovn residence .^ vaa 15, Old Cavendish Street, Cavendish Square, London. Wanted on warrant for stealing a quantity of cord Wcod ( recovered), at Little A< t on, on '! lbt uitinro :— GEO CARELESS, alias REDMAN, 56 years of age, 5 feet 6i ins! high, medum build, grey eyes, light sandy hair, fresh com- plexion, clean shaved, cut mark on left side of chin, a wood- sawyer, and a native of Wolverhampton; dressed in an old flannel jacket, cord trousers, old cloth cap, and old cloth boots tied round with string. He is under police supervision, and has been convhted at Wolverhampton and Stafford for burglary, larceny, a- d other offences. Warrant issued. Information to Mr. Supt. Absconded from Bishop's Castle, on 30th ultimo, charged with larceny :- SAMSON BARKER, 29 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches hi^ h, dark complexion, no whiskers, short black moustache and rather full face; dressed in a dark blue serge jacket, old cloth vest, and trousers patched on knees, white handkerchief, o'd Jim Crow hat, and an old pair of Blucher shoss, a hawker and a native of Market Drayton, Salop ; has a ped'at's certificate in his possession, and is in the Shropshire Militia. TTON, or to Sergeant William?, Bisnop's CASTLE, Salop, who holds a warrar. t for his apprehension.— Bow- street, December 7, Charged under a warrant with stealing from the Three Tuns Inu, King Street, Willenhall, on 2nd instant:— a black stuff Cloak bouud with whit3 fur, with hood attached; a piece Dress ; a brown Bonnet, trimmed with brown satin and velvet; a pair of woman's elastic- side Boots ; a brown leather Purse, containirg twenty shillings in silver ; and a black leather Purse, containing one shilling atd eightpence and a pawnticket. By a woman known as POLLY TTLK DANCER 5 feet i inches high, dark complexion, hair and eyes ; dressed' supposed in dark dnsa, imitation seal fckin hat, and red and bla: k plaid shawl, much worn, may be wearing some of the stolen articles, she is fond of singing and dan. iog at low public houses, her favourite song being ( Silver Bells.' Absconded, charged with embezzling £ 80 :— CHARLES LOUIS MARSTON, 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, slender build, pale complexion, brown hair, clean shaved, grey eyes, long thin face ; dreaeed in black overcoat, dark grey trousers, high black hat; has a sister residing at Llandudno, where he may visit. Wanted on a warrant, charged with stealiug a surveyors' Link- chain, 3 Tracings, and a Pay- sheet, on 15th ultimo :— MARTIN CALDER, 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 or 11 inches high, dark hair, thin and wavy, which he pirts in the ceLtre, dark side whiskers, slight moustache, and sallow complexion ; dressed in a blue worsted morning coat, which he generally keeps buttoned up, check trousers, and black li'lycock hat, clothes rather stcdy, be is well built and smart made ; will very likely call upon architects, surveyors, aud contraciors, in search of a situation. By a tramping navvy, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, stout made, no whiskers, small light moustache; dressed in old dark coat, very light fustian trousers, leather leggings, red neckerchief, and heavy laceup shcej. A? conpmied by a woman, about 23 years of age, short and thin ; dressed in old black dress, very much drabled up at the bottom, and badly shod. Also stolen from Coates, on night of 28th ultimo :— a pair of cord Reins, with buckles on ends, and a Brush used for cleaoing horses. Information to Inspector J. Stolen oa the morning of 28th ultimo, from the Theatre Royal, Haiiley :— a five chambered nickle silver Revolver, with plain handle, has been cleaned with sand paper, which has partially removed the nickle silv< r ; a Ditto, with 1 lack notched handle, aud burnished steel barrel; a small Glad - stone Bag, patent leather; a red morocco Pocket- book, bearing the name ' Wilfred Denver, First A< t'; a nickle silver Champagne Knife ; a short melton Oveicoit, light drab material, raised seams, outside po. ket left breast, pockets at each aid-*, and tickt- t pocket, each of which has flaps, down the co'lar at each side will be foutd some grease paint; a pair of Trousers, dark mixture, with side p ckets, buttons on the bottoa of the legs for straps ; three gent's scarf Pins ; a blue cloth Vest, with pearl button?, watch pocket, and two other pockets, each of which lias flips; a pair of gent's new patei- t leather Boots, kid t> ps, s- ze 8, painted black on soles ; a pair of gent's very light tweed Trousers, having pockets at sides, ar. d a small pocket light side, straps to match at bottom ; a gent's black c'oth ribbed Vest, pockets at each side, and watch pocket; a pair of patent leather dress Shoes, size 6 ; an olive green ribbed Overcoat, with an astrachan fur collar, one outside breast pocket, two side pockets and ticket p ck* t, and OI. P inside pocket; a pair of Tionsers and Vest, gi- ey mixture, blick and white striped tweed, the vest has bor, e buttons; two ladies Neckerchiefs, with pink bordtr', used in the profesti m ; a boad silver Collarette, with balls round, three of which are missing ; a silver Bracelet, made of 20 three- penny Pieces with letters ' Silver Klug' on each low; and four other lady's small Bangals. By a man giving his addrcis at Roebuck Hotel, Crewe, about 22 or 24 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 ins. high, dark complexion, small dark moustache and imperial; wore a black boiler end hit, aud cLrk overcoat, with fur collar; was of g> od address, and hid the appearance of a professional; he stated that he had recently b= en in America, where he had purchased the revo'vers. Stolen from the Officer's Quarters at Chester Castle, on the night of 28th instant, about 7.45 :— about £ 14 or ,£ 15 in Gold and £ 1 in Silver; a gentleman's gold Watch, op? n face, foreign makf, very ihiu ; a silver Geneva ( half- hunter) Watch, inii ills < n hack ' C. H. W » .'; a gold hcrse shoe Pin ; an ulster Ov< rcoat, red and brown colour ; a suit of Clothes, dark tweed check, with name on buttons * Lewis, Sons and Paiker, Lord n,' for a prson about 5 feet 7 inches ; a pair of gold sleete Links ; a brown leather Gladstone Bag ; a black leather Portmanteau ' J. E W.' on side, which has been erased but is visible. By two soldiers employed as officers servants.
