The Names of Persons charged with Offences who are known but net in custody, and a Description of those who are not known, their Appearance, Dress, and other marks of Identity. The Names of Accomplices and Accessories, with every particular which may lead to their Apprehension. A Description, as accurate as possible, Property that has been stolen, and a minute Description of Stolen Horses for the purpose of tracing and recovering them. No. 7008 FUIDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 1883. fVottce.— It is requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. %• Whenever it is desired that any person should be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably aecessary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, of the Offence charged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all Letters addressed to the Editor mD8i be prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded en War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. . Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed or accompanied by a letter, signed by tne persons forwarding them. Stolen from the person about 7 p. m. on 26th instant:— a silver lever centre second stop Watch, No. 44157, maker ' Har- greaves, Liverpool,' a strong silver Guard attached, and about 8s. in money. By a man about 30 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, stout build, no whiskers or moustache ; dressed in green coloured cloth jacket, single breasted cloth vest, cord trousers, cloth cap with peak, turns down behind and ties over top, and clogs, was carrying a small basa^ with strap attached which passed over his shoulder. Pieces, defaced. £ 25 reward will be paid by the owner Mr. Stevenson, pawnbroker, Nottingham, to any parson who will give such information as shall lead to the apprehension and convictiou of the thief or thieves, and recovery of the stolen property, or in proportion to the amount recovered. Descript: on of GEORGE LUNN, wanted at Chelms- ford, charged on warrant with breaking into a dwelling- house on 22nd instant, and stealing certain articles of Clothing, which have been recovered :— 32 years, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, dark complexion, very full eyes, long eyelashes, dark heavy eyebrows, moustache, inclined to be sandy ; dressed in cord trousers, very old rough pilot jacket, red and white Bcarf, blue striped shirt, heavy lace- up boots, with very thick soles, been mended with waxend round the heel of both. Has an uncle, a builder, at Dartford, Kent, and is known to the Police there. Left Chelmsford by the 11.32 a. m. train, on 22nd instant, taking a ticket for Stratfor' 1. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Essex Constabulary, CHELMSFORD, who holds the warrant.— Bow- street, November 26. Stolen by means of burglary on 18th instant, at Amer- sham:— about 2 dozen pairs of women's and children's Boots, some of them spring sides, and others buttoned ; also about 2 dozen pairs of men's and boy's strong lace- up boots, various sizes, most of them having the price written in plain figures on the bottom of soles. Information to Inspector Webb, Police Station, CHESHAM, Bucks.— Bow- s'. reet, November 23. Stolen by means of housebreaking at Woodham Morti- mer, on 11th instant:— four silver tea Spoons, marked ' B.'; two nickle silver dessert Spoons, marked 1 W. B.'; two silver dessert Spoons ; seven common plated tea Spoons ; a large gold oval Brooch, with cameo woman's head in centre ; and a gold plated Brooch, with white china stag in centre. Infor- mation to Inspector Ackers, Essex Constabulary, LATCHING- DON.— Bow- street, November 21. Stolen by means of housebreaking, at the Vicarage, Water Orton. during the night of 19th instant, the property of the Rev. H. S. Watson :— 14 bottles of new port Wine ; a dark grey Oxford cloth Overcoat, and a black soft felt Hat, both clerical style, the coat had a pocket on each hip, and a pocket on outside of left breast, a pair of black kid gloves were in one pocket; a dark leather Cigar Case ; a silk Umbrella ; a alpacca Ditto, and 3 Sovereigns. Stolen from Farnham, during the night of 16th instant: — a black Pony, very aged, about 13$ hands high, white siar on forehead, rough appearance, in good < ouditi , n, has leather under its shoes. Information to Mr. Supt. F. Pike, FARNIIAM, Surrey.— Boir- street., November 28. Stolen from a field at Bixon, Stafford, during the night of 14th instant.— a bay Horse, about 15 hands h'gh, off fore- knee enlarged, white spot ou chine, about 7 jears old aEd in fair condition. Information to Captain Oswtll, Deputy Ch: ef Constable, STAFFORD, or Sergeant John Goodwin, GREAT HAYWOOD, Staffordshire.— Bow- street, November 28. Supposed stolen from a field at Harrington, on 17th tilt : — two red and two roan Heifers, and a roan Stetr, 2i years old, short horn breed. If stolen, any person giving such information as will lead to the recovery of the beast and con- viction of the offender or offenders, will receive £ 5 reward. If strayed, all reasonable expenses will be paid. Information to Mr. Supt. Bo terill, KETTERING— Bo'e- s'reet, November 26. Found at Shipton, on 13th instant, and supposed stolen : — a dark brown nag Mare, aged, about 14 hands high, near fore and hind fetlocks white, star on forehead, shod all round, and supposed in foal, in fair condition. Information to Inspector Thomas Hawtin. County Police Station, WOODSTOCK Oxon.— Bow- itreet, November ' 13. Stolen from Shelfield, during the last five weeks :- two black faced yearling Sheep, marked with the letter ' T.' on left side. Information to Mr. Supt. Barrett, BROWNHILLS, or to Sergeant Arnold, Police Station, RUSIIALL, near Walsall. — Bow- street, November 21. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT Stolen at Settle on 28th instant :—£ 17 in Gold. By a lad about 15th of age, fresh complexion, and round full face ; had on a new hard felt hat, tie with elastic at back to fasten on collar stud ( plated), dark grey jacket, sleeves rather too short, bluish grey trousers, and strong lace up boots. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Inman, West Riding Constabulary, SETTLE.— Bow- street, November 30. Charged with stealing a Duck on 28th ultimo, at Audley : — HENRY JOHNSON, alias HARRY LOT, 26 years of age, collier, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, slender build, light com- plexion, brown hair, a native of Halmerend, Staffordshire, where his wife resides. Information to Sergeant John Wilkes, CHESTERTON, Staffordshire, who holds a warrant for his appre- hension.— Bow- street, November 30. Stolen at Stretford, between 4 and 5 30 p. m 26th inst. : — a pair of brown tweed Trousers, vest of same material ; a black diagonal worsted cloth Coat, man's size, one pocket outside left breast, and two on hips, nearly new ; a pair of Lace- up Boots, with toe caps, part woro. By a soldier belong- ing to the 20th Hussars, stationed in Ireland, who is on furlough, about 21 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, slender build, black moustache, slight'y pocipitted, and has a cut mark on right eyebrow ; dressed in the stolen aiticles, also a white muffler, and old soft black billycock hat, he left his uniform behind him. Information to County Police Office, OLD TRAFFORD, Manchester.— Io '- street, Ncverriber 30. Stolen ton 27th instant, at the Black Horse [ public - house, Newmarket:— a suit of blacK ribbed cloth Clothes ( jacket shaped coat.) Supposed by a bricklayer's or slater's labourer, about 27 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, daik completion, brown hair and small dark moustache ; dressed in dark hard felt hat, yellow and brown necktie, dark blue jacke, light plaid cloth trousers, and old lace- up shoes. In- formation to Mr. Supt. Long, Police 3tation, NEWMARK T.— Bvw- street, November 30. The woman, who absconded oa 23rd instant, stealing .£ 30 in gold, and £ 32 in Silver, and advertised in Police Gazette of 26th instant, has been apprehended.— B< nc- s-' r< et, November 30. Description of SARAH JONKSj aiiaa MORGAN, charged with stealing at Broseley, Salop, on 8th instant:— a dark grey wool and cot'on Shawl ( mixed) ; a black and white plaid. Shawl; 2 Table- cloths, one red and greeD, and one white; a Neckerchief ; a bundle Handkerchief; a Chemise ; a pair of Drawers ; a Night- dress ; and a wicker Basket. She is about 56 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 ins. high, grey hair, has a mark across her nose ; wearing the black and white plaid Shawl, light winsey dress, black hat, tiimmed with black crape, and strong lace- up bcots; she used to travel with her husband, William Jones, with a donkey and cart, selling earthenware in the neighbourhood of Leintwar- dine, Herefordshire. Information to Sergeant Davies, WEN- LOCK, Salop, who holds the warrant for her airest.— Bow- street, November 30. Stolen on 24th instant, from H. M. S. Penelope, at Har- wich :— an ulster Coat, reddish mixture; two suits of Clothes, one dark grey, the other pepper- and- salt mixture ; a pair of buttoned Boots, patent leather fronts, with kid tops ; and 6s. in Silver. By two Marines, who left Harwich for London by the continental train next morning, dressed in the tstolen articles :— one 24 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, fair com- plexion, brown hair, grey eyes, scar of Car, left side of upptr lip ; the other 25 years of age, 5 feet 7i inches high, dark complexion, black hair, blue eyes, heavy da< k moustache. Absconded on 19th instant, charged on a warrant with stealing proceeds of a cheque for £ 224 2s. 9d. :— ARTHUR BERNARD HOLT, a clerlr, late of 33 Elerslie- road, Clapham Park, 45 years of age, 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, fail complexion, sandy hair, whiskers, and moustache, cut short, stout build ; dressed when last seen in black cutaway coat and vest, dark trousers, brown overcoat, and deerstalker hat; good linguist. By a farm labourer, 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, dark hair and whiskers, hair cut short and turning grey, d> rk complexion, round features, thick lips, rather stout build, lost most of teeth in upper jaw except one large one in front; dressed in stolen jacker, brown velvet vest, cotton cor. i trousers, good lace- up boots, and soft billy- cock hat ; carried a bundle with hiui containing twill slo;> jacket, shirts, & c., tied in red handkerchief; he was traced to Llanymynach, ou 22ud iuttaut. Suspicion attached to a young nun, 19 years of ago, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high, fresh complexion ; dressed in an old blue cloth jacket, white moleskin trousers and vest, lace- up boots, black velvet cap with peak and white handkerchief with red border, worn round his neok. Information to County Police Office, OLD TRAFFORD, Manchester. — Bow- itreet, November 28. Absconded 24th instant, charged on a wairant with felony :— FREDERICK GODDAED, of Foord Road, Folke- stone, 18 years of age, 5 feet 5 inches high, dark brown hair and eyes, sallow complexion ; dressed in a dark brown suit hard felt hat worn a little on one side, smart appeal aoce. Was employed as an engine cleaner at the Folkestone Junc- tion StatioB, South Eastern Railway. Information to Mr. Supt. Taylor, TOWN HALL, Folkestone.— Bow- tt„ Nov. 26. Wanted at Newport, Mon. for stealing a cash Box, con- taining £ 10, from an hotel on 21st instant:— a young man, about 19 years of age, not very tall; a mau from 23 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes; another from 23 to 25 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches high ; dressed in dark clothes, and wearing leather leggings ; and a woman about 40 years of age, stout build; dressed in dark bonnet and tight- fittiDg ulster. She is a Manchester woman. Information to Mr. Sinclair, Chief of Police, NEWPORT, Mon.— Bow- street, November 26. Sto'en from a cabin at Ridgway Colliery, between 1 and 5 p. m. 20th instant:— 1 grey tweed cloth shooting Cost, rather far worn, newly bound at the wrists with black braid, has a pocket stitched on the inside of one'lap, to carry meals in, made of calico. Suspicion attached to two men, one about 50 years of age ; supposed wearing the stoleu coat, soft black billycock hat, and dirty fustian trousers; the other 25 to 30 years of age, 5 feet 10 incheB high, dark comp'exion, and is minus one arm. Wanted at Morpeth on a warrant, charged with stealing between 13th and 24th September last: — a gold Euglishlever Watch, No. 40950, gold dial and chapters, ; teel hands, and engine- turned cases, maker' Bracebridgp, London' ( recovered); a second- hand Gold Geneva Watch, No. 2 16195 ; a silver lever Watch, chronometer balance, jewelled, ' Bailey & Davison' on dial; a centre second silver English lever Watch, No. 12627 ; a silver Geneva ( calendar) keyless Watch, shows day of the month on face, No. 37889 ( recovered) By WILLIAM MACGREGOR, a tailor, a native of Dundee, about 32 years of age, about 5 feet 5 inches high, proportionate mike, fair complexion, blue <- yes, compact brown moustache, aDd shaved all round face ; dressed in brown mixture cloth suit, c ollar, and heart- shaped maroon breast scarf, with lace work across front, black hard felt hat, and strong laced boots ; he is much addicted to drink, sometimes plays an accordion in public- houses. Stolen at Leighton Buzzard, about 5 p. m. on 17th inst.: — a silver Geneva Watch, No. 81490, open- face, white enamel dial, no glass, rim for glass bent. Supposed by a man, from 30 to 40 years of age, about 5 feet 8 inches high, thin built; dressed in dark clothes, and black round felt ha'. Wiltjon and B! ood, Ashby,' on collar loop, holo burned in front, pockets on hips, one out side left, and one inside right breast, black Italian cloth lining, black bone buttons, bottom one nearly off. By a man, an engineer, 26 or 27 years of age, 5 feet 8 inches high, ruddy complexion, fair hair, parted in centre, light moustache, slight whiskers, blue or grey eyes, medium build ; dressed in black cloth trousers and vest, short pilot jacket, plaid cloth patch on one sleeve, grey woollen shirt, lace- up boots, and hard black felt hat. Information to James Gilbride, Supt., BURTON- ON- TRENT.— Bow- strcet, November 23. Stolen on 21st instant, at West Brornwich:— a man's silver Geneva Wa'ch, No. 47025 ; a long silver Guard ; and a pair of man's worsted cloth trousers. By a man who lodged in the h'. use one night, about 55 years of age, 6 feet high, medium build, fresh complexion, grey side whiskers, no mous- tache, his occupation is supposed to be among horses. Infor- mation to Mr. Supt. Whiteharat, Police Station, WESTBROM- WICH.— Bow- ttreet, November 23. Stolen early on morning of 20th instant:— a black cloth Overcoat, bound with black braid, pockets at sides, breast pocket left side, ticket pocket right side, one pocket containing two Premium Books; a pair ot laced Boots, nailed heavy ; a pair of laced Boots, light, with hooks at top ; a bro vn hard f sit hat, with the name of ' F. Woolgrove', stamped ioitin several places. By a man, who lodged in the house during the night, aoout 30 years of age, about 5 feat 9 or JO inches high, fair complexion, light hair, cut very short, slight figure, light slight moubtiche, said he belonged to Croydon, and had woi ked in the Gas Works; he was dressed in woollen cord trousers light mingled cloth jacket, and mingled cloth hat, wore round his neck a small Scotch plaid scarf. Information to Police Station, RYE.— Bow- street, November 23. Stolen from a bedroom at the' Squirrel Inn', Litileworth, on 15th instant:— a lady's gold Geneva Watch, gold dial, steel hands, inside case loose ; an old silver Albert Ch ain; a silver Watch ; a gold Albert Chain ( filvtr watch and gold chain since found pawned, tickets not recovered). By EDVVD. BATES, a tramping gasfitter, and native, of Brade- street, Snow Hill, Birmingham, he is from 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, black hair, inclined to cml b. Vron face when last seen, about a fortnight's growth, which may be shaved off, be has a slight impediment in his speech ; dressed in datk clothes, and black bowler hat, tramps the country. Information to Deputy Chief Constable Chif p, Police Office, GLOUCESTER, who holds a warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, Nov. 23. Absconded on 3rd instant, charged with stealing Watches entrusted to him to repair :— GEO KG E SMITH, a watch- maker, 40 years of age, 5 feet 5 inc. he3 high, dark hair, whiskers and moustache, inclined to sandy ; dressed in dark clothes, black felt hat, attends race meetings.
