HI Otic*.— It i « requested that all communications for the purpose of obtaining or giving information respecting supposed offenders, or stolon property, may bear the Signature of the person requiring or tending the same, and all applications in reference to the POLICE GAZETTE may be made and addressed to the Editor, Police Court, Bow Street, London, W. O. Whenever it i* desired that any person shordd be appre- hended, and the Name is given, it is indispensably aecossary that an information should be made and sworn to before a Magistrate, ® f tile Offence oharged, and an attested copy thereof, together with the advertisement, forwarded to the Editor for insertion. As no charge is made for the insertion of any article in the POLICE GAZETTE, all tetters addressed to the Editor must l> e prepaid, otherwise the insertion will not be made. The Names and Descriptions of Deserters from the Army, and • f Absentees and Deserters from the Militia, should be forwarded on War Office Forms 88 and 88A, to the Editor, above, for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE. Advertisements offering rewards must state clearly:—( 1) The amount of the reward. ( 2) The conditions on which it is payable. ( 8). The person by whom it will be paid. They should be signed • r accompanied by a letter, signed by toe persons forwarding them. INFORMATIONS. MURDER AND MALICIOUSLY WOUNDING. Whereas, at 5 40 a. m. cn 4th instant, the dead body of JONAS BOTTOM LEY, confectioner, Keighley, was found • on the caual Bide near Monk Bridge Forge, Leeds, with a large wound on the forehead and another on the back tf the head ; there was missing from his vest pocket ( supposed stolen) a medium sized gold Geneva Watch, silver gilt dial, mucL worn, and flowered back, also much worn. An inquest • was held on 16th instant, and a verdict of Wilful Murder re- turned against some person or persons unknown.! Notice is hereby given, that Her Majesty's Government offer A REWARD of £ 100 to any person ( other than a person belonging to a Police Force in the United Kingdom) who shall give such infor mation and evidence as shall lead to the discovery and con- viction of the Murderer, or Murderers, and the Secretaiy of State will advise the Grant of Her Majesty's Gracioiu PARDON to any Accomplice not being the person who actually com- mitted the Murder, who shall give such evidence as shall lead to a like result. Absconded, charged vith forgery, & c.:— WILLIAM BARKER, late of 62, SabiDe- road, Wandsworth- road, and assistant analyst at Somerset House, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches higb, dark hair, sandy whiskers and mous- tache, usually wears spectacles, walks quick, with a slight stoop, and swinging of arms ; dressed in dark tweed suit ( pea- jacket), wears a blue libbon/ father resides at Castlefoid, near Leeds. Hallam, Police Ofiice, CHAPEL EN- LE- FRITH Derbyshire.— Bow street, Novemb. r 7. man, advertised in Police Gazette of 31st ultimo, named WILLIAM PATRICK RE ILLY, wanted under the'Pie- vention of Crimes Act', for failing to report at Liverpool. Information to Mr. Supt. Davies, Deputy Chief Constable, Police Office, HOLYHEAD.— Bow- street, November 5. Stolen by means of burglary, on 16th instant, at Meklreth :— a Meat Pie ; a Pocket- knife, single blade ; a Pocket- handkerchief, red border, with red and white spota in the centre; and a light- coloured tweed Coat, with pockets outside ; also a riding Coat; from the Crown Inn, Royaton ( recovered). By a man about 30 years of age, 5 feet 3 or 4 inches high, ruddy complexion, dark brown hair, stout build, a slight moustache, the other part of the face clean shaved; he ia of dirty appearance, pitted with smallpox ; dressed in a grey jacket with pockets at the sides, corded trousers ( dirty), aud light- coloured soft billycock hat, and stated he is a bricklayer. Stolen from a cottage in Bagahot- road, Frimley, between 9 and 10 a m. 25th instant :— three gold Rirgs, set with stones ; a Wedding Ring ; a small gold Brooch ; a pair cf Ear- drops, black, set with gold; a pair of silver D. tto ; a gold Chaia ; a plated Locket and Chain ; a plated Chain ; and a metal scent Bottle. Supposed by a man, about 28 or 30 years of age, 5 feet 6 or 7 inches high, dark hair and moustache; dressed in a black hard felt hat, with broad brim, low crown dark cutaway coat, blue and black plaid trousers, boots with brown tops, white stand- up collar, with blue neck- tie, carrying a brown overcoat, a riding whip, and two Umbrellas, tied together; left Bag9hot Station for Ascot, by the 10 30 a m. traiu, and moat probably went from there by train to Reading or London. Charged with stealing on 10 th instant, at Lay ham, a red roan carriage Horse ( recovered):— BENJAMIN BEDWELL, about 25 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches high, swarthy- complexion, light hair and moustache ; dressed ia dark mixed clothes ( very dirty), double peaked cap, sometimes wears a low black hard felt hat; and JAMES BEDWELL, 32 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, fair complexion, light moustache, no whiskers; dressed in dirty mixed coloured clothes, and black billy- cock hat, both men occasionally wears a red wrapper round neck. Committed for tiial at Middlesex Sessions, commencing 5th instant, for stealing a Pony, Set of Harness, and a light Cart ( recovered) : — JOH^ WILLIAMS, a groom, 27 years of age, 5 feet 9I inches high, fair complexion, hair, and small side whiskers, dark blown, and light moustache ; dressed in brown mixture suit, hard felt hat, and side- spring boots. Cart and Harness, advertised as stolen fiom Belchamp Walter, on 26th ultimo, has been recovered at Halesworth ; the waterproof Apron has been identified, and JAMES BEDWELL has been apprehended at Bungay, on another charge of Horse- stealing ; BENJAMIN BEDWELL is still at large, and was at Halesworth on 28th ultimo. Stolen from a field at Stretton, near Burton- on- Trent, duriDg the night of 30th ultimo, the property of Mr. W. Cotton: — a light brown half- legged Mare, in good condition, 5 years old, 16 hands 1 inch higb, with bltck leg* and short tail, has a lump under one jaw ( believed oft' side), hair rufflsd on inside of fetkck joints, very lai g< ears and rather wide apart. Information to Mr. Supt. Gilbride, Police Office, BURTON ON TRENT.— Bow street, Novembtr 2. Wanted on a charged of Horse Stealing on 14th or morn- ing of 15th ultimo :— a man from 23 to 28 years of age, 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, light fresh complexion, small light whiakers and mouatache, rather light build, and rather a quick spoken man ; dressed in a light dust overcoat, light tight- fitting trousers, and black round hard felt hat, and had somewhat the appearance of a farmer or butcher. He sigued his name on the deposit note when at Birmingham with the horse, as ' A. W. Johnson.' A reward of £ 5 will be paid by Mr. Richard Roberts, treasurer of the ' Repton Association for the Prosecution of Felon3,' and £ 2 by Herbeit Gaskin, the owner of the horse, to any person who may give such information ( private or otherwise), as wilt lead to his apprehension and conviction. LARCENY AND EMBEZZLEMENT4 Description of THOMAS HANLEY, a mechanic or stone masoD, wanted on warrant for stealing from a dwelling house at South Kirkby, on 3rd instant:— a blue pilot cloth Jacket, black bona buttons, 3 pockets outside, and a pocket inside right breast; a pair of black worsted cord Trousers ; a grej un'on Shirt, white bone buttons ; a pair of dark blue Stockings ; a pair of Braces ; a pair of light lace- up Boo1 ® ; a hard black felt billy cock Hat; a pocket Book ; a coloured Handkerchief; a meerschaum Pips; a red India rulb; r tobacco Pouch; and a silver Guard, link pattern. He is abi ut 3 J years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, fresh compu jtion, blue eyes, ginger hair, medium build, has two lumps on the bi ck of left wrist; is a native of Barnsley. Description of WRIGHT ATKINSON, a clerk, charged with embezzlement, who absconded on 31st ultimo, and will endeavour to leave the country : — he is 24 years of age, 5 feet 1 inch high, slender made, pale complexion, daik brown hair, dark moustache, which he may shave off, no whiskers, rather large eyes, slow of speech, slightly bow legged, and rather smait appearance ; usually dressed in reddish brown tweed suit, or in black cloth suit, both coats are short loose- fitting ones, hard black billycock hat. neck scarf, and white stand- up collar. Information to Mr. Holgate, Chief Constable, BOLTON.— Bow- street, November 7. Description of J03EPH BAKER, ' charged " with em- bezzling .£ 16 14s., and other Monies, received by him for the ' Singer Manufacturing Company' in June last:— he is about 30 years of age, 5 feet 5 or 6 inches higb, and stout inclined, ruddy complexion, brown thick curly hair, short whiskers, beard, and moustache, and ia given to drink ; he is a smith, aud supposed to be working at his trade it or near Birming- ham. His parents reside at Cheltenham. Information to Mr. Geo. Songhurst, Head ConstabV, BARNSTAPLE, who ho'ds warrant.— Bow- street, November 7. Absconded from Winchester, on 4th instant, charged oa a warrant with embezzling £ 9 8s. 3d. :— FREDERICK HICKS, a brewer's drayman, 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, sallow complexion, blue eyes, light brown hair, small light whiskers and moustache, slight build and long thin face ; dressed in brown tweed cutaway coat, cap of same material, white moleBkin trousers and nailed boots ( nearly- new) ; he belonged to the 1st Class Army Reserve. Informa- tion t> Mr. W. Morton, Head Constible, City Police Station, WINCHESTER, Hants.— Bow- street, November 7. Stolen from an Inn, ia Kidderminster, between 8 and closing time on 3rd instant:— about £ 45 io Gold ; eight Crown Pieces; £ 1 in small silver Coins, chiefly Sixpences; a silver Watch ; a gold wedding Ring ; and a Pocket Book, containing two I O U'p, and two Bond Notes, relating to two biirels of whiskey, from Mr. Dawson's, Union- passage, Bir- mingham. Suspicion is attached to three men, one about iO years of age, 5 fret 8 inches high, dark complexion, and slight dark moustache ; dressed in dark suit, had two coats on, the outside one trimmed with broad military braid, and appeared to be too small; 2nd, about 23 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, dark moustache, dark hair, aid small dark side whiskers; 3rd, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, slight build; dressed in daik clothes, and of smait appearance. Description of two men charged with stealing £ 450 in £ 5 Bank of England Notes, by means of the confidence trick :— one is 60 years of age, 6 feet 8 inches high, sallow complexion, brown hair, whiskers, beard ( loDg) and mous- tache, has a large [ fleshy lump in palm of left hand ; dressed in black frock coat,? and h'gh black hat, usually wears a large nuggef of gold attached to watch chain. The other is 35 yrs. of age, 5 teet 6 inches high, stout build, fair complexion, light brown hair, beaul and whiskers; dressed in dark clothes, snd soft felt Yankee hat, speaks with an Irish accent. Description of JOHN MARCON, alias MASON, wanted on a warrant, charged with stealing from a dwelling- house at Great Alne, near Alcester, on 17th ultimo :— a Purse contiin- ing 5s., a ladies dress Ring set with six small blue Btones and hair let in round the ring, also two plain gold Rings, which have since been recovered at Stratford- on- AvoD, from which town he was traced to Leamington, where he obtained a pedlar's certificate on the production of his old one, cf which the following is a copy. No. 60, John Marcon, of the Bed Lion Inn, Brook Street, In the borough of Leamington, in the county of Warwick, certified 19th October, 1883, signed by Joseph F. Brabner, C. C. He is described on the certificate as < 35 years of age, 5 feet 7 inchcs high, hair and bushy whiskers and moustache turning grey ; be is very talkative and dressed in a suit of grey clothes, and hard4black felt billy hat with flat top aud had with him a pair of black and white plaid trousers. He does not look so old by 10 years as described in his certi- ficate ; states that he is a stone mason by trade, generally stays at second class public houses, and is well known at Bromsgrove, Tunb- idge Wells, Nantwich, Gloucester, and at Worthing, West Sussex, at which latter place he received a sentence of 2 months imprisonment for larceny, on 8th Nov., 1882. Absconded, 27th ultimo, charged on a wai rant with embezzlement :- JOHN HAYCOCK, a clerk, 35 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, sallow complexion, slim build, brown hair, Blight whiskers and moustache; dressed in black diagonal suit and high hat, all new. Absconded from Wimblington on 31st ultimo, charged • with larceny as a bailee :— JOHN WALES, a native of Earith, Hunts, a calf dealer, about 32 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, proportionate bui. d, round face, light com- plexion, hair and moustache, rest of face clean shaved; has been in the army, aud has a bullet wound on one forearm and some tattoo marks, also rings tattooed on two fingers ; dressed in brown suit, sc?. rf with pin and white linen co'lar, hard felt hit, yellow leather leggings, and lace up boots with hooks at top, all Dew, and carries a drover's stick. Stolen at Eastbourne, Sussex, between 26th and 28th instant:— 2 white woollen Blankets, with a black stiipe across near the ends, and large sizs. Supposed by a man who lodged in the house three nights, and lefc on the evening of 27th for London, about 30 to 35 years of age, about 5 ft. 8 inches high, dark complexion, dark brown hair, and mous- tache, whiskers shaved off, and stout figure ; dressed in brown felt hat, black frock coat, and grey vest and trousers, and is an artist at Theatres and Music Halls. Information to Mr. Supt. Newnham, Eist Sussex Constabulary, EASTBOURNE. — Bow- street, Octobe' 31. Description of HARRY YOKE 3, abas JAMES DANKS charged with stealing £ 12 10s. in Gold, at Ibstock, on 27th instant:— 34 years of rge, 5 feet 4 inches high, fresh com- plexion, sandy whiskers, slight mou'tietie, stout build, shaves oa cbin ; dressed in light suit, dark brown overcoat, pockets on hipi and one left breast with lid ; tbis man goes about from place to place, playing a piano, and singing in public- hon'ses, and is well known at the ' Dirty Duck', Belgrave Gate, Lei- cester, the ' Wheat Sheaf Inn', Walker- lane, Derby, and at ?. Sui' 4em in Staffordshire, where he was convicted in 1881 for larceny. Information to Capt. Grimston, Chief Constable, LEICESTER, or to Mr. Supt Chapman, HINCKLEY, who holds the warrant for his apprehension.— Bow- street, October 31. Absconded from Aldenhot ou 12th instant, charged with larceny of 7s. : — a gill, 15 years of age, short and stouf, round and very full face, fresh complexion, grey eyes, l! ght brown hair, birth mark outside le't foreaim; dressed in • white straw hat, with broad brim, turned up on one side, lined underneath brim with blick velvet, trimmed with pink pea blossoms and white feather, black dress, with jacket boddice of same material, black bow on shoulder and one aide, high lace- up boots, grey stockings, black silk gloves ; carrying a brown twill umbrella, aud wearing a Brooch, made of a piece of the rock of Gibraltar, mounted in silver. Cawood.' By a man about 30 years of age, 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins. high, light complsxi or, ginger moustache aud whiskers, lost nearly all lis front teeth from upper jaw ; dressed in a b'lle p lot jacket, with a brown patch on right shou'der, dark trousers torn inside left knee, grey shirt, black tie with white spots, old elastic- side boots, and cap with a peak. Stolen at Wimblingfon, on 29th inst a- 1:— ad irk knotted clct. h Overcoat, and a black cloth Coat, Vest, and Trousers, not much worn ; a pair of brown mixture Trousers, nearly new ; a silk Handkeichief, colours green and pale red ; two pairs of new lamb's wool Socks of a p& le lavender colour ; a • white Pocket- handkerchief, with a name and number written upon it; a red and white Ditto; two old b'. ue- coloured Shirts; an old faded b'uo Table- cloth ; a white linen Collar, with pink or red stripe ; and a white Wrapper ; two gold keeper Rings, not much worn, one D carat, with diamond- shaped top. By a young man who had the appearance of a groom or jockey, 22 j ears cf age, of short stature, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, small aurk whiskers, and small features, has lost four fingers off left hand ; dressed ia light drab sleeved vest, brown mixtuie trousers, round hard hat, with rather large brim, which is broken in fiout, light lace- up boots, and wears a liorse- shoe pin in neckerchief.
